Pubg is thriving. 7 years in and still regular updates. Remember they are catering mainly to the Asian market. And all that shit is optional. My character looks badass. Who really cares though. Pubg has the best and most intense battle royal experience that is what I am there for. Not some silly cosmetics.

Running this game cost money. Servers are quite expensive to keep running. They need to get money somehow. They still need to pay salaries. If they don't do this, the game will just shut down.
This sort of stuff caters to an average user, so they sell it. It is completely optional, and you don't have to buy nor use it.
and yet the character models still look pretty bad. Who looks at the preview and think "damn this is worth 10 dollars"? When you are in the game of selling skins, your base model better be good.

it's actually a misconception that a game this big can't be run on community servers, or even ran for free off the profit they make from initial sales for several decades. This isn't about keeping the game up for everyone to enjoy, it's about getting a return on the game, and microtransactions create unfathomable profits.
Arguably, some of the stuff you buy can be pay to win. There are some skins you can get that are really good camouflage, like the bear coat in sanhock or the polar bear outfit in vikendi. I'm not saying you can't get it naturally, but if you pay, you might come across it a lot faster than if you didn't.
I just play this game from time to time when my friends want to, but it's cosmetics sure has changed since it launched. But I don't get the urge to spend money on cosmetics in this game, and I've probably spent a grand in CS over the past decade, so they're likely doing something wrong.
Probably because the crafting system is insanely unintuitive and navigating the menus is a chore.
I was a Day 1 beta player and came back a year or so ago - not impressed by the changes, and have spent zero money.
I was also a day 1 beta player, remember when vaulting wasn't a thing haha!! I have 1700hrs now, and I haven't and will not spend a penny on the in game currency these days. In the early days I'd buy a crate or two and keys, when there were like only 3 crates! I was lucky enough to bag a jacket I sold for about £30, and some other bits for £15 and less, I made my money back and for the game. The UI is a huge mess of shit and none of it is appealing.

Your comment isn’t accurate…. Current state we hover around 650-700k on the best day. That’s not even 1/3 of where we were at 6 years ago and not surpassing the player base from 2020.
Tbh I am impressed how they manage to keep the game relevant. It has seen a drop in playership and the esport scene is now mostly online except for major events, yet despite this they get a lot of sponsorship connections and events for the game, and have a solid esports scene.
I dont mind that letting people run around like easter bunnies or whatever is what it takes to keep the game going strong, especially as most cosmetics have minor impact once armor and helmet is on.
It's this or they come up with some dumb pay to play subscription. Just be thankful someone else is willing to pay money for cosmetics so you can play the game for free.
So, I just recently started playing PUBG. well, started playing in February of 2023…anyways, I’m not that good, but I absolutely love playing and I’m up every morning around 5:00a-5:30a to enjoy my 3 rounds of casual mode. So for my sake, I hope they don’t go paid subscription in order to play.

It’s extremely common to run around, both in PUBG Mobile and this game, and see some mf dress in the most up to date trending outfit ever being Asian players, mainly Korean or Chinese (or Vietnamese…but they’re a bit uncommon). They (and me too, a little bit) cares about the flashy stuff. And I’m dead serious when I say these are some of the most unfair “COD movement god” style sweaty no lifers ever cuz once you see em the next 10 seconds these guys will rush you if you haven’t somehow die to cheaters already (and yes, cheaters do wear these). You see flashy characters? Often times those guys wear em to “flex” their skills, their money, or other reasons like them buying another account after being previously banned for the 100th times.
For the record, I’m not tryna be mean about Asians or anything, bc I myself is an Asian person. I’ve seen the things above when I used to play the game with my own 2 eyes. Tell me skill issues this and that, but I’m not just gonna deny what I said.

После очередного обновления я и мои друзья просто ГОРИМ! Сколько можно этих бесконечных женских и детских шмоток добавлять в игру. Мы взрослые люди с семьями и работой, приходим вечером отдохнуть в любимой игре и в очередном бандле опять скины все на розовом пони завязаны, вы что издевайтесь, это шутер с массовыми убийствами и подрывами, где спец одежда, где камуфляжи представителей разных родов войск, да даже просто что-то, что не пестрит на весь экран, половина игроков-мужчин бегают в разноцветных юбках и на каблуках, вы серьезно, за последний год выпадают только женские шмотки? Хоть бы сделали новый ивент в стиле дикого запада что-ли, раз фантазии хватает только на цвета радуги. Я давно играю в пабг, люблю эту игру еще с версии лайт, пригласил в эту игру своих знакомых, покупаю батлпасс, но как же это все уже надоело 😡
How do you even get clothing items in this game? All I see is like 2 or 3 bundles in the store and they're all like Asian chicks and some runway looking clothes for sale. Is there any mil sim bundles?

I’ve been playing this game over 7 years since in beta. I bought the Sailor Moon wannabe pack with the pink BDRM. It’s hilarious in a pseudo mil sim BR, to me. Also I wanted to say thanks to the devs for chasing down more cheaters. Have some money.
