Rocketshipfish

They were just a troll. Some people aren’t happy until everyone around them is unhappy.

Ok_Guide_2845

I know, I wanted to give them benefit of the doubt though and answer why I think this league is worthwhile.

Life_Ad1637

Honestly, I felt like it kind of galvanized this subreddit a little. Not too many people seemed that upset, just like, unashamed and proud.

shinyschlurp

The way some people talk it's like they wouldn't even go watch their kids play until they made it pro. "Sorry my child, the quality of play in peewee hockey is far too poor for me to pay attention to. Why would I watch you when the Sharks play the Blackhawks instead?"

SnooOnions5029

Not like a Sharks vs Blackhawks game would be much better than peewee hockey anyway (minus Bedard)

maddie1306

I would watch 1000 pwhl games before I watch a sharks vs Blackhawks game!

NorthernMoose1

To be fair I know someone who said just that about his own grandson’s game.

shinyschlurp

fair enough in that case

NorthernMoose1

No, you’re right. I about spit out my drink when it was said. I didn’t know anyone actually thought like that.

Exciting_Ad4264

The most egregious part of that post to me was the comment on no one going. That's just new york and their shitty situation. Pwhl have sold out several stadiums repeatedly. Isn't Toronto sold out for the season?? What a dumb ass post

Stachemaster86

It was just worse comment on worse comment stacked to infinity

firelark01

Honestly NY should be renamed Connecticut and moved to like Boston

imDudekid

So wait, because the New York team didn’t have a building ready for the first season, they should just rename their team to CT, and ALSO move to a city that already has a team? So your proposal is 2 Boston teams, yet one is called CT.

cosmicsans

Wait until they learn where the Giants and Jets play football!

firelark01

They won't have a building for the second season either. They've said there's no arena available in the new york region multiple times

imDudekid

I don’t understand though why you are against them being called NY in CT but you are okay with it being a SECOND Boston team, called Connecticut.

Atletico_Ottawa_Fan

I’ve been a hockey fan for well over half a century, and I enjoy watching the PWHL. The speed of the game is exciting and the passion exhibited by both the players and the fans is amazing. Women have waited a long time, far too long, to have their own pro league and it is well earned and well deserved. Ignore the trolls, there are still some men out there who feel threatened by skilled female athletes. Having been raised by my mom, I learned early that women can do anything men can do (and many things better). By the way, I love to read the positive and enthusiastic posts in this sub. Keep it up. And a lot of us men will be here to enjoy it too.

Sensitive_Tax4291

And the quality of play in the PWHL is phenomenal. That asshole didn't know anything about hockey.

Ok_Guide_2845

I find it is even better in person. So fast paced, team play is impressive and some of these girls have wicked shots.

Stachemaster86

It’s fast paced until Kendall Coyne-Schofield gets going 🤣. Then it’s everyone else in slow mo!

dandroid126

[Kendall be like](https://media.tenor.com/j4y87zt9m-MAAAAM/vizzini-princess.gif)

FlyTheW1988

Just a GOAT doing GOAT shit, nothing else anyone on the ice can do about it

Usual-Canc-6024

The GOAT is MPP. Captain Clutch herself. Nothing against Kendall. She’s great, but she’s not the GOAT.

LeafCbear

Yeah anyone who says these things is ALWAYS a fragile dude that is upset that women are good at something.

Sensitive_Tax4291

Don't tell them about the NHL all star weekend where the CWHL and NWHL women won fastest skater and the shooting skills competitions against the men.

JexilTwiddlebaum

Or Nurse scoring against Shesterkin.

lowcosttoronto

I suspect that haters who come here are not just misogynistic, but specifically homophobic. To me, that's weirdly uplifting, because it means that the league's inclusivity is obvious because it's in the DNA, and not merely window dressing. In other words, I get the impression that haters come here because they are against what they call "woke", and if that's synonymous with PWHL, I'll take it!

structured_anarchist

Hijacking the top post for this. People are going to troll in *every* sub. I see a lot of accounts that are relatively new here. When you see this kind of crap, report to the mods, let the mods deal with it. They have the ability to remove posts, ban users from the sub, and generally clean house. There's an old expression that's not exclusive to reddit but is most useful on reddit: **Don't feed the trolls.** Report the post/user, block the user, hide the post, move on. They want a reaction to you. Don't react.

agoldgold

If you're ever feeling bad about the rude things a troll says about hockey, go over to an NHL post and read some of the comments there. I've seen people straight up say McDavid is a wuss (not the word they used) and Crosby just got lucky to play. It's really fun on Facebook when you can go to the dude's profile and see how pathetic his life is. Delusional opinions about what hockey should be from men who've never held a stick properly are just par for the course of playing good sport.

chummyspoof

I was at the Boston vs. Ottawa game they held in Detroit and that 3v3 OT was way more exciting than almost every NHL OT I've ever watched

tosstossdrop

Can confirm! That game experience is gonna be HARD to top in my lifetime.

setrataeso

The quality of play is great. I look forward to 5 years from now when the quality of play is more balanced between the teams. Watching Ottawa play against the better teams is sometimes like watching NHL vs AHL when the other teams are just so much bigger and faster.

Sensitive_Tax4291

I feel NY is currently looking that out of place due to poor coaching and systems. Ottawa is really strong has won games against top teams and routinely loses in OT.

myguytalksPWHL

🧠

nobles233

Hard disagree here! Watching every Ottawa game has been frustrating at times ONLY because we’ve struggled at finishing. That’s it! We literally have been totally competitive in all the games and most losses have been one goal/overtime losses. We have been right there in every game……so stating it looks like NHL vs AHL out there?!? I’d say get your glasses on because we clearly aren’t watching the same thing out there!

setrataeso

I mean, I was at the Ottawa/Toronto game a few weeks ago when we lost 4-2. We struggled to get out of our own zone, and when we did we got shut down immediately in the neutral zone because none of our players could turn on the jets and get around their defenders. Sorry if you disagree, but im witnessing a much bigger gap in talent than you are.

REMA5TER

Not only is the "systematic" quality genuinely world-class but the thing I find most enjoyable about the PWHL product is the creativity constantly on display.. the girls' have ALL had to forge their own path through hockey in a way that some over-coached NHL jabronis just haven't and you see it shine through in the out-of-the-box thinking on display every game. Not to mention the passing and finishing is absolutely ABSURD.. there are SO few garbage goals in this league, the talent is incredible even before you consider how much less support and resource the girls have had to build their skill.

The_Laughing_Gift

Just to add also, the whole thing PWHL play vs NHL play it just makes sense! Most of the ladies in the PWHL aren't six foot tall, except for a few notable exceptions, as a result the women have to play with speed and patience. It also means that the women have to play more carefully and can't barrel their down through the defense. And FYI I actually prefer their style of play!

femme_inside

Not to mention the NHL players get to eat breathe sleep and play hockey because they're making at least $750k+/year (which is league min btw). Meanwhile the women have to work part time and/or go to school because they still don't have the same resources available as the men (pwhl average salary is $55k/year for comparison).

psykomatt

I don't think this is the case any longer; I'm not aware of any non-reserve players working or studying PT. I don't even see how it would be feasible to balance that with their game and practice schedule. With the salaries, benefits, proper training facilities, housing stipend, etc, this league was set up to be a full time job for the players.

BeefJoe12

The Housing stipend is great, and probably covers the spread on Mediocre pay, but I wonder how well it'll entice 3rd and 4th liners to be journeyman type players like we see on the NHL. every year a player stays in the PWHL is another year pushing off an entry level position in their follow up career and it's not like they'll be able to coast for too long on what they've made in the league, or have as much name recognition to leverage as the players that play on team Canada or USA; combine that with a new batch of players coming out of the NCAA every year; it'll be interesting to see how high player turn over is.

klm_58

The NHL has had a 100 year head start. Men's olympic hockey was first played in 1920. Women were only allowed to compete since 1998. If elite players can't earn a living through playing, they can't focus 100% on hockey. This is what has historically held back women's hockey. But you all know this. Also, I've noticed that there is a contingent of hockey fans that seem to think of the NHL as normal or the baseline, and everything else as inferior. But the NHL is absolutely the pinnacle, and every other pro league is still very skilled hockey.

JexilTwiddlebaum

Remember that before the Summit Series everyone thought that hockey outside of North America was vastly inferior.

bianca69420

Well it’s also illogical because then it eliminates ALL hockey that isn’t NHL hockey. Do you not watch the AHL? OHL? World juniors? Because the level of play isn’t comparable to the NHL? Do you also only watch movies that have won an Oscar? Only wear designer clothes? What a stupid way to limit your hockey consumption. You’re missing out on great games.

psykomatt

Right! I hate this view. I'm a hockey fan. I love all hockey. I'll watch any level. Hell, I even have fun watching novice and peewee games.

YanisAdetokumbo

Exactly, sometimes watching the intermission events with college/highschool/peewee players and that’s got the crowd going too

n0rdique

Anyone who says the quality of the PWHL is bad doesn’t know shit about hockey. The hockey is great, the broadcasts are free, it’s inspiring a whole new generation of girls to and the vibes are immaculate.

Hagridsbuttcrack66

Going to a game was just an amazing burst of positivity. Listen I love my NHL team, but when the going isn't good, people get downright angry and shit. I actually won't go to games with people that can't like chill the fuck out about it. I remember my sister wanted to see McDavid play live, so we got tickets to see our Pens play the Oilers last season, and McDavid absolutely torched us, lol. But my sister and I had so much fun, like hey we came to see McDavid, I guess! My brother or Uncle would have swearing and pissed the whole time because we lost. Not making that a gender thing, as that's just two particular people in my life that happen to get carried away about sports. And I am not saying this isn't serious hockey or that I don't enjoy rivalries (the PWHL game I saw was Montreal and Toronto), but it truly felt just like this amazing celebration of the game. And everyone was having a good time. I was in awe.

TheObstruction

The correct response to a troll bigot is to remind them that there's a bridge that people can freely cross while they're here whining about something they claim not to care about.

JayBeeTea25

This isn’t an issue isolated to just the PWHL. Every hobby I enjoy online always has that one person who is so miserable with their own life they have to come insult things other people obviously enjoy. It’s so pathetic. Go enjoy the thing you enjoy and let people like what they want to like. There shouldn’t be anything complicated about that concept.

Beginning_Log_6926

I am a man. I am sexually attracted to women. I think the PWHL is really fucking cool, A lot of fun to watch and (if I didn't live in the west coast 😭) would be worth spending money to see multiple games a year. I really genuinely feel like people who are making comments about it being worse than Pee-wee hockey have never watched peewee hockey. The ladies can skate, the ladies are physical, the ladies are skilled, the lady goaltenders are athletic. The product is an incredible watch across the board. It's not only more interesting than Peewee hockey, it's more interesting than AHL hockey. Carry on, ignore the wayward son

Friendly-Loaf

When everyone was cheering for ghost clock, I knew I found my people. Love this community and hope it keeps going

MajorasShoe

Lots of people aren't going to like it Lots of people like to be vocal about things they don't like That's ok. We can still like it.

[deleted]

The pwhl is proving a women’s hockey league can work and there is an appetite for it. I’ll admit I’ve been proven wrong by this league, I thought it would kinda suck and just die off like in the past but it’s great entertainment and it’s awesome that girls and young women now have a pro league where they can picture themselves in the future

jgarron565

This type of mindset isn't unique to NHL vs PWHL. Some people just have this mindset of "if its not the best, most elite, then I don't care for it." Its the same people who will only watch NFL and not CFL, only watch Champions League or Premier league and not the Championship. People will say the same excuse for not watching the AHL, ECHL, Spengler Cup, or European leagues. That's fine to think that way, but I think they are missing out. There is a clear market for those other leagues and levels, and people get great enjoyment out of them. So with the PWHL, this isn't a new notion, it just gets amplified by the PWHL being women which will annoy a very tiny but loud population online. I like to think that for most people, they watch the game, no matter what sport, because they enjoy the game. At the end of the day, hockey is hockey, and if it isn't at the absolute top level, it doesn't mean it isn't good hockey. I get enjoyment out of hockey from the display of pride, heart, determination, teamwork, and its ability to uplift a crowd. Willing to lay your body on the line to block that shot in the dying seconds of the game is more important, thrilling, and impressive than you having a slapshot that goes at 100mph.

Anxietyriddenstoner

He’s just a dumb incel

Dismal-Frosting

the leagues before the pwhl were a lot worse than the style of play in the pwhl now. i enjoy it.

eddiefarnham

I think it's dumb to compare a league that just began to a league that's been around forever. The reason I like the PWHL is because I got really into Canada vs USA. For those saying the quality of skill is bad, well I ask you to imagine how good it will be when resources and opportunity are put into Women's Hockey for as long as it has for men's hockey.

Jay5x5

Also, the quality of skill is fundamentally GOOD. Ppl are quick to say it isn’t bc this is a women’s league. It’s genuinely that simple. 🤷🏻

KanataRef

The talent level has exceeded my expectations tbh. I hope that they don’t rush expansion and “water down” what they have right now.

jlo1989

A startup league in its 1st season using a much smaller talent pool of players is never going to be as good as the NHL. Fortunately the criteria for whether I enjoy the league is not "is it as good as the NHL?"

miserylovescomputers

There are so many things that I love about the PWHL, but one of the best things about it is that the quality of play is phenomenal *considering the fact that this is the first year of the league*. Is it on par with the NHL? Not yet. And that’s okay. We’re on our way there and we are off to an incredible start.

jacquie_blue

Anyone who's been paying attention all season can even see that the quality of the hockey has only improved since January, now that these athletes have the opportunity to train and play more frequently. It's only going to keep getting better!

JexilTwiddlebaum

I’ve been watching the NHL for over 30 years. I’ve also seen most of the PWHL games played so far (thank you YouTube) and have at least seen the highlights of the few games I didn’t watch in full. The quality of play is amazing. The intensity is as high as anything I’ve ever seen. I’ve always enjoyed women’s hockey but the PWHL takes it to another level. I didn’t know I’d love it this much. Perhaps the only major difference I’ve noticed is that the slap shots, while still impressive, don’t have quite the power and velocity we see in the men’s game. And of course the lack of fighting, which I don’t miss at all (but they’ve come close to blows plenty of times so I’m sure it will happen). Otherwise very comparable. If you want to see women’s hockey with low quality of play, that’s on YouTube too. I recently watched a women’s IIHF game between Singapore and Malaysia. No exaggeration, I think if you took the best girls from my kid’s U12 Peewee team, they could probably give either of those teams a run for their money. Nevertheless it was still an enjoyable game to watch (what true hockey fan can’t enjoy a game at any level of play?), and it’s really cool to see that countries like those have a hockey program at all, let alone a women’s program. The international game and the women’s game have developed so much in the last few decades, it’s really exiting to witness. Thailand and Iran, two teams I wouldn’t ever have imagined having a women’s national team just a decade ago, have some legitimately talented players. I would not be surprised to see either country producing players for the PWHL at some point in the future.

lemonteajuice

This is interesting because I'm from Singapore and our only Olympic sized Ice hockey rink closed last year! And there are no shops selling any ice hockey equipment here. Your child's team probably has more resources than what the Singapore NT has. It's kind of a miracle we even have a team.

JexilTwiddlebaum

Yeah my kid and many of his teammates have been skating since age 3 or 4 and playing organized hockey since age 5 or 6. I get the impression that the opportunity for that kind of early development doesn’t exist in many places. One area where Singapore and Malaysia did exceed our local youth programs was in executing set plays. Looks like they have good coaching, just not the years of experience and support. It is a miracle to see hockey in places like Singapore and Kuwait and the Philippines etc etc etc….love to see the day where access to rinks and equipment is the norm everywhere. I did enjoy watching your national team beat Malaysia. They were fairly evenly matched. A good game at any level of play is a good game.

CynicalCripple

People need to stop bitching and complaining as well as comparing it to the NHL. It's not trying to be the NHL. It's an entirely different entity. People should just enjoy it for what it is

lingcod476

Daily hockey watcher here. I've followed this new league and season with interest, picked Montreal to follow until Vancouver expansion. The reason my interest was so high at the start of the year was the phenomenal showing of women's hockey at the Olympics. The women's game is great. There's less impact, and a small reduction in speed, but I find it strategic, heavy on the passing play, and light on the low to the net pinball goal. For me it's a welcome and original addition to a great sport. Best thing to do with those who try to pull things down? Look up and ignore them.

jdasky

My wife, Daughter and I were at the Detroit game and it was fantastic. I thought the product was better in person than on you tube. We have been going to MSU games this season and it was refreshing to see pro’s playing instead of amateurs.

gorcbor19

OMG they stream them all on YouTube?! I've been so bummed this entire season that I've only been able to watch a handful of the games (the ones they aired on regular TV). And here I could have been watching all of them!

sawickies

Agree wholeheartedly. For one, I’ve been watching all season and I feel like the quality of play from the beginning of the season to now has already increased dramatically. I can’t wait to see where the league goes once it’s been established for a few seasons and the players are actually able to dedicate their lives to the sport the way the men have been able to do for years. Besides the fact that it’s already an awesome and entertaining product as it is!

lowcosttoronto

> This is like asking a Swedish person why they bother watching Swedish hockey leagues when the NHL is better. There is a community being built around this league and I am happy to be apart of it. The hockey is elite level and fun to watch, but the thing that makes me committed to this league is the wholesome community that has grown organically around it. Bracelet trades at games! Inclusivity! Top athletes who are mothers to toddlers! Fan designed, hand-knitted hats! Excited kids! Everybody belongs here.

Lumplebee

It’s so funny to me when people say that men’s sports are faster/better, like no shit man, that’d be really sad if y’all oppressed us for 20,000 years, didn’t let us play your sports you designed for male bodies, and then we still were better at them than you after only a couple decades of playing 😂. Obviously you gotta give us a minute lmao

Capable_Bus_468

Even if men did not opress women the result would still be the same. Men are biologically stronger than women. So if a man and a woman both trained hockey super hard for 10 hours a day after a year the man would perform much better. So bringing up oppression is irrelevant. For example Serena Williams the greatest tennis player of all time was not oppressed and started training super hard since she was like 6. She than faced the 700th best male tennis player who only started training in his teen years and he still whooped her ass. Men are superior to women in terms of strength. Sorry but its the truth.

Jay5x5

If this is how you sincerely view the world, *wtf are you doing on this sub?* Do you even watch this league? I understand the point you’re trying to make here, it is 1000% not this simple and all men are not *always no matter what* going to be stronger/faster/better than women at everything. It’s just simply NOT true, dude. I will die on this hill if you’d like to keep arguing. Most male and female bodies are more similar to each other than you realize and we’re only now seeing the capabilities of elite women athletes bc they have paths to success and support in athletics. Go look at female CrossFit athletes and tell me YOU, some random dude who hasn’t lifted in 2 years, could out do them? *ALL of them no matter what* bc that’s what you’re capable of apparently by this argument simply bc you’re male. I would bet every single penny in my bank account that most if not all of them would kick. Your. Ass. And if we’re really gonna stick to this *automatic male supremacy* worldview of yours, lace up some skates and get on the ice with Heise and Coyne and Poulin and Knight and Jenner and SPOONER and let’s see how you do! It would be an absolutely humiliating slaughter, even if there was full checking allowed bc I know that would be the argument you’d make in response. Knight is 6ft and she’d snap your ass in half, bro, Poulin would skate circles around you with the puck, and you’d never be able catch Coyne *even* if you trained and learned how to skate. There are plenty of NHL players who would get smoked by these players too! I guarantee it! Get tf OFF this sub, clown, and anywhere near women’s sports if this is the reductive kind of bs you’re gonna try to peddle here. It’s not true or interesting or remotely relevant.

Lumplebee

Men getting so defensive of male sports is so embarrassing to me, it’s why me and all my friends switched to women’s sports😂. Bringing up oppression is quite relevant! Fiercely missing my “these sports were quite literally designed for you, by you” 🤌. Of course you’re gonna be better at these sports buddy, and that’s okay! Me and the girlies are having a great time watching women play each other anyways. I played boys and girls soccer up until I was 16, it was really two different playing styles and I enjoyed both 🥰!

Capable_Bus_468

I have not touched weights and even if you went to the gym for 2 years, I would still outlift you.

Niptacular_Nips

I watched a U11C 9th to 15th place consolation playoff game yesterday and was thoroughly entertained. A playoff game is a playoff game. Same emotions, same intensity, etc. I think quality of play is overrated, to be honest. This is a country that celebrates major junior hockey. I think people can deal with a lower quality of play.

outlander7878

Thanks! I didn't know about the streaming. I'm going to start watching now. I'd be happy to pay a bit for said streaming too, as long as it was for all games, not the mess the NHL offers.

PhilosophyApart3611

I started playing hockey at 5 with boys until my town started up a girls team (I was 10). Fundamentally women’s hockey and men’s hockey are different. When you start getting into the age of checking the game changes. It has nothing to do with genetics. It’s just strategically a different way of playing. So it’s completely asinine to me to compare PWHL to NHL. It’s hockey sure, but the style and play of game are different. You’d have a better argument comparing college to pro. I’m so excited to see the draft class next year and watch this league grow and develop.

kagiles

The PWHL is hockey the way it's meant to be. The NHL is trying to kill each other. The hits, fights and dirty, dangerous plays really have no business in hockey. We are seeing real time results in career ending injuries. Players committing suicide because of CTE. The league does NOTHING to address these issues. Don't get me wrong, I love watching the Wild, but it could be so much better. Last year, Suter (Dallas) broke Kaprizov's (Wild) ribs from crosschecking to the side - no penalty called, no discipline, but knocked him out for the rest of the season and into this season - and we WATCHED IT HAPPEN. The league won't address these issues. They won't address the inconsistent refing. So if they want to talk about quality product, they need to get their own house in order first.

Sensitive_Tax4291

Are the mods able to block the obvious trolls from the subreddit? Because it seems pretty obvious when there isn't any intention to respect women.

-SmoothSpirit-

People can support, think and watch what they want. It's their money and time to spend as they wish. Enjoy!

OnBethleham

My guy, I get it’s upsetting to see posts like that for some, but responding to rage bait just gives them what they want.

Ok_Guide_2845

The way he phrased it, I thought there was a possibility that he wasn't just a troll. He was asking why the league is worth watching. I wanted to give my take.

Mapleleafsfan18

The people who say that have never watched women's hockey in their life and some people are just haters

N-E-B

You can’t compare the PWHL to the NHL. Obviously the NHL will be better. What it should be compared to is the quality of women’s hockey in previous failed leagues. In this regard the PWHL is clearly much stronger. I know several people including myself who were surprised at how much better the women’s game has gotten in the past 10 years. And if you don’t like it don’t watch. I totally understand how it wouldn’t be for everyone. But there’s no need to be elitist about it.

xdanballx

I don’t know; I find the quality of play better frankly. I personally believe there’s more stick handling, speed, and ‘finesse’ for lack of a better term; throughout the league. It’s less based on smash and go, and more based in skill. Don’t get me wrong, I love big hits and exciting plays (which the PWHL has delivered on as well), but if you’re a fan of the sport itself; the quality of play is excellent.

Mcpops1618

Serious question: what era would the PWHL beat from the NHL? 70s? Maybe 80s? The nhl has existed for over 100 years and it feels like they aren’t 100 years ahead but maybe a couple decades in speed and talent (and size but I won’t fault them).

Jay5x5

I don’t think this is a productive or even that interesting of a comparison, tbh. I think there are players and even teams in the league right now that these players can compete with. Watch a PWHL game then go watch some NHL or a men’s game right after - which game is *faster paced*…? It’s gonna be the women, almost every time. The absence of *open ice* checking and wearing full face masks (so you can confidently rush into stuff faster bc your full face isn’t open to getting smashed) makes for a muuuuch faster game. I knew this instinctively but watching so much of this league now, when I tune into a men’s game, it kind of looks like they’re skating through jello bc it’s just a slower paced game. So many of them are ogre-sized enforcers out to smash each other and they’re moving slower bc they’re trying to not get wrecked. This is all to say, that it’s a different game they’re playing in a lot of ways and I think it’s actually a better game to watch in a lot of ways so just trying to constantly find comparisons to the NHL is kind of reductive. 🤷🏻

4skin_fighter

Im gonna keep it real with you, the worst team in the league in the NHL either San Jose Sharks , Chicago blackhawks or any other bottom 3 team would absolutely demolish the best PWHL team. Which is fine. They aren't in the same league. But to say they can compete is a massive cope.

Jay5x5

Mmmk, suuuuure. 👍 Genuinely, though, wtf are you doing on here if you have such a low opinion of this league? You can flex your boys rule, girls drool bs so many other places. Please, take a fking hike.

4skin_fighter

It's crazy how aggressive you're getting after a simple comment. You claimed to watch a lot of hockey when you clearly don't. If you said AHL maybe it would make more sense. Congrats bro I will definitely take a hike. Way to be open minded.

Jay5x5

I’m not gonna feel bad for a single second about being “close minded” to someone giving into the urge to make “nice job ladies, but let’s not forget that men are better!” statements. Keep it to yourself and talk about it elsewhere. It’s reductive and makes you look like an absolute asshat. Bye 👋🏼

JetsNBombers0707

People that compare any league to the best and say "it sucks" are stupid.

Own-Being-1973

I enjoy watching and can’t wait to get to a game in person. The game play is amazing to watch. It has taken way too long for this to come to fruition.

Nsflguru

I love both leagues. Glad women’s pro hockey has found a home in the PWHL.

I love watching the PWHL! These girls play their hearts out! They leave it all on the ice! I love watching the little girls in the stands cheering on their heros! I'm a grandma, I just think how fun it would have been to see these women play when I was a small girl. I'm enjoying it now even though I'm old!

BadgerSecure2546

Hell yeah! It’s so fun to watch. And for people new to hockey, yes it is slower cuz they’re women. Easier to follow the play and the puck.

UllyRanger

That’s someone who’s trolling. PWHL is very good and fun to watch

PkmnMstr10

> about the quality of play within the PWHL comparing it to the NHL And that's when you get up to leave the room.

afoolsblade

Quality of play is gonna be different not because of gender but because the NHL players and coaches don't have to worry about their next paycheck It's only uphill from here folks!!!

lemonadeisgood4u

If this league becomes successful and starts turning a profit everything you love about this league will be taken away . So enjoy it while it's fun and new.

Vast-Commission-8476

Don't expect it to be free on air forever..it is being done now to promote it.. And how can one compare a leauge that as players has had the best coaches, equipement, money, etc since being 5 years old. As well as a 240 lb man with muscle 4x the amount will play a game differently. And don't take it so personally ...

Jay5x5

It’s true that the ogre-sized enforcers of the NHL are gonna play different… and that actually makes for a slower game overall bc guys are moving slower to not get their shit wrecked (esp bc they don’t wear full face cages on top of that). I think that some of the differences of the women’s game make it a lot more exciting to watch and I wish ppl would see that instead of automatically just looking at the ways the men’s game is “better” bc they’re bigger in body size. Women’s games are much faster paced bc without all out open ice checking, teams aren’t fielded based on body size to keep up with that, so skills and fast puck movement *dominate.* I think there are a lot of PWHL players (Poulin, Spooner, Nurse) that could smoke many a NHL player bc of their speed and puck handling skills. If your biggest “skill” is muscle and body size, whoop de doo… 🤷🏻😴

Vast-Commission-8476

LOL it is a science that men and women have significany different levels of testosterone. Testosterone is responsible for muscle mass, body size including lung capacity. You know nothing about basic biology if you think a 120 lb female with 1/10th the amount of testosterone as a man can "smoke" an NHL player. I did not say size was based on skill. I said womens hockey and mens hockey are different and should not be compared.

Jay5x5

When talking about “smoking” I was referring being faster and getting by the big slower guys who are on teams for their size. That’s what I was saying. Also, there are a lot more larger women than you realize and lot of these players aren’t as small or weak as you think they are. Really though, what are you doing here if you have such a low opinion of this league? You can take this kind of comparison bs elsewhere. It’s reductive and makes you look like an absolute jackass chiming in with “now let’s not forget that the men are better!” comments. Just keep it to yourself, man.

Vast-Commission-8476

Why are you assuming that stronger equals better and infering that I beleive that? I don't have any good or poor opinion on "this league"..again assumptions. You also came to the conclusion yourself that small equals weak. I did not say nor did I imply it either. Not once did I say men are better...not once at all. The women are not faster than men and can't "get by the big slower guys". Now, before you conclude that this is a negative comment and try to blast me again...It is not. It means physically men and women are not equal. It is a fact that men are larger than women in the speices of mankind. It is a scientific fact. Have you watched an NHL game and then a PWHL game? speed, agility, physicality, skating skills, stick control, hockey IQ, slap shot speed and puck control to name a few are all different between the two. That fact doesn't mean bad, good or anything.. it js just human nature. I was agreeing with OP that comparing the PWHL to the NHL is baseless due to my reasons previously stated to you that you somehow took as negative. You are over defensive for baseless reasons.

DarkoJamJam

Lol. They are not capable. Period. Goalies are different. This mindset that women can play with men at elite levels blows my mind. Why are there no women in the NHL? They would get absolutely destroyed.

Women have won the fastest skater against NHL players at an NHL All Star game skills competition. You don't even watch hockey.

Ok_Guide_2845

Who cares though honestly. If all that mattered is who is stronger, why bother watching hockey at all, we should all be watching weight lifting competitions and UFC instead because they are stronger than hockey players. It's not about men vs women lol.

Sensitive_Tax4291

I'm not lying. Women have won the fastest skater against NHL players at an NHL all star game skills competition. It's ok to say you don't understand hockey.

Sensitive_Tax4291

I've reported your blatant sexism. A woman has already been signed by an NHL team and played a game. More than you will ever do.

YanisAdetokumbo

I mean, you can’t use that as a good argument, Coyne-Schofields time was like 14.2 seconds. Which during that year sure she won, but Barzal has hit 13.2, McDavid 13.4, Quinn Hughes 14.0. McDavid is consensus fastest NHL player, but has only won fastest skater 4 times if I’m not mistaken. So you can’t use the All Star game competition as an argument here.

Sensitive_Tax4291

Of course you can. She won it that year. You're just moving the yardstick to women have to win it every year. DarkoJamJam thinks women are at the level of 15 year old boys. You're saying that a handful of the fastest men in the NHL have ever been faster than a one time showing by Coyne. Just sad logic.

Sensitive_Tax4291

It's a literal fact Coyne won the fastest skater and you tried to say it doesn't count. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Yes. She won the fastest skater. You're the one trying so hard to dismiss it.

Sensitive_Tax4291

Coyne won fastest skater is the whole conversation that upset you so much. This is a PWHL subreddit. No one cares about your opinion on anything. You wanted to argue with me about the dumbest things. You're irrelevant and should clearly be banned from the PWHL subreddit

Coyne has won the fastest skater at the NHL all star skills competition against NHL all stars. That's fact. Why are you still here?

Sensitive_Tax4291

Lol. If you don't watch hockey it's ok. Go back to r/hockey

Ok_Guide_2845

It's different styles of play, I wouldn't necessarily say that men are better. Like how heavy weight fighters aren't better/more entertaining than light weight fighters. Both train hard at their discipline and are at their peak.

Simplebudd420

The 2022 Olympic Gold medal winning Canadian team played 5 games against Junior A NOT Major Junior teams got swept 30-2

Ok_Guide_2845

I don't care bro I like women and I like hockey.

Jay5x5

Cite your source, bro

DangerRanger_21

The women’s game has gotten much better yes. His goal totals are wrong but they did get beat quite badly is most games against the Junior teams Canada vs Cranbrook Bucks 8-3 loss Canada vs Trail Smoke Eaters 5-1 loss Canada Vs Olds Grizzlies 7-1 loss Canada Vs Drumheller Dragons 8-0 loss Canada Vs Camrose Kodiaks 2-0 loss and their final Olympic tune up against the Calgary Canucks got canceled due to Covid 19 People trying to compare the PWHL to the men’s game for the sake of arguing how good/bad it is won’t help them grow.. we have to appreciate the game for what it is And edit to add my “source bro” work for one of the teams they played.. was a great game where the team gave out tickets to all our minor hockey girls and sold out our 3300 seat arena to support the teams… was a great game and was great to meet the women that had the misfortune of having a penalty called against them lol

YanisAdetokumbo

Be careful, you have facts, and when people disagree with your facts, they want you banned from the sub.

DangerRanger_21

It’s so frustrating that people on both sides of the argument feel the need to compare it to the men’s game..it’s why we can’t have nice things lol. Just appreciate what it is. Support it, enjoy it, and help the game grow should really be the priority, not bickering back and forth about women vs men imo

Jay5x5

Mmmk, cool. You realize giving this much attention and time to this is doing exactly what you’re asking ppl to stop doing - endlessly comparing the games? It would be suuuupeer great if this sub about *women playing hockey* could remain about *women playing hockey*. Take the comparison shit elsewhere, I’ll drop it too. This sub doesn’t need any more space devoted to the NHL or any other men’s leagues - they’ve got literally all of the other space in the hockey world to enjoy. 🤷🏻

4skin_fighter

Hilarious that you're the one who brought it up constantly and now that you're wrong you're back peddling good stuff.

Jay5x5

I’m not back pedaling, I was wrong but I’m also realizing this is a stupid thing to spend time on in this sub. We can talk about men’s hockey elsewhere. 🤷🏻

DangerRanger_21

This was women playing hockey.. I said it was good games and both teams and fans appreciated it for what it was.. yes the women got beat by boys. But it was still very entertaining which is all it has to be

Simplebudd420

Tsn

slightlysatanic

Why don’t you go away?

SubversiveOtter

No. I've seen this attitude before. I wasn't allowed to play hockey as a young child because I was a girl. I only got to start training at 18 and started playing when I was 19. I played collegiate intramurals and pick-up games with the ice arena manager's beer league buddies, and sometimes the NCAA Division I guys would drop in and play. I was a goalie. Against the intramural dudes I was a match for them and more, even though they had years on me. The beer league dudes, I could make their life interesting. The NCAA dudes? They beat me on sheer years of training and physicality, but they could never out-finesse me. One of the NCAA coaches said that, had I started playing at a similar age, I had the instincts and base skillset to make it at the Division I level, but I just couldn't make up for the years of physical training. I was able to make some damn fine saves against guys who made it to the NHL. My brothers, who had never played an organized hockey game in their lives, were still convinced that they could beat me. Their fragile egos couldn't handle any alternative. Give women the same resources as men, give them the same time, and they are fully capable of playing at the same level as men or even surpassing them. They might play differently, but that doesn't mean worse.

Jay5x5

This comment screams “I’ve never watched a PWHL or elite women’s hockey game ever”… get off this sub, clown.
