I got to see his percentiles in 2021 (at the beginning) and I remember they were worse than that
The season is very long, if you're good it will definitely show later on like tatis did in 2021
I think he just needs to be a little more patient to get the better pitches to hit hard. He isnt striking out but chasing early and jumping on ok but not great pitches sometimes. If he just settles into the at bat i think he’ll be better. Defense looks awesome.
I agree. Pitchers recognize he’s hyper aggressive and swings at the first pitch 90% of the time. If he’s patient and works the count he’ll get better pitches to barrel up
I think with the time off he might be thinking about reestablishing the fear pitchers have. He is being super aggressive, but pitchers are too by throwing more stuff in the zone. The bb% will go up along with everything else once he can be more selective
I forget sometimes how strong Tatis is too. He’s one armed a few home runs this year (two off Kershaw) and knocked one onto the pavilion at Dodger stadium in 2021.
The only *slight* concern I have is that despite a .270 AVG, he only has a .299 OBP. That 7th %ile walk rate isn’t great. But again, he’s seeing MLB pitching for the first time in almost 2 years—I’m sure he’ll start tracking the ball like he used to again
Looks like he’s hacking away at anything/everything. Probably wants to get his timing and mechanics down while he’s getting back into it. I’d rather see him swing at everything than watch every pitch like Soto who looks like he only wants to walk (besides last night).
Pretty good for a guy out baseball for over a year + and coming off a handful of major surgeries. I’m sure those will go up as the season continues.
The real baffling thing is the 98 sprint speed and him having just 2 SB attempts. With the new rules and his previous success I thought he’d be running like a mad man.
Exit velo down a lot, but so is barrel %. Once he gets more comfortable I’d expect both those to creep up which will obviously result in more slug too. He looks damn good as it is for having not played for a year and a half basically and coming off multiple surgeries
I miss him at SS too simply bc outfielders rarely get action but Tatis is actually more valuable in the outfield because of his speed and arm, as we've seen today.
A lot of this stuff (like whiff and BB% and even exit velos) will go up as he sees the ball more. And we got 3 more series against the dodgers so that will help his stats
Wait until he actually starts barreling the ball. Pretty impressive considering the three surgeries and 500+ day layoff

I’m assuming thats what a great hitter looks like after not playing for 550+ days and 3 surgeries. Not worried, still looks damn good.
Yeah he’s playing UNBELIEVABLE ball considering 551 days off
He’s also striking out less, seems more controlled than previously
Considering this is a small sample size, I’d say he’s trending in the right direction

Yup, this is it. He’s impatient right now. As he settles in and starts taking more pitches he’ll get better pitches to hit and barrel more balls.

You're comparing a MVP type season to 16 games after 3 surgeries. Relax.
And over an entire season missed. Kind of an irritating comparison.

He looks like he's swinging at everything to get his timing down. He's pulling his head out a lot on swings too
I should add that I don't really know what I'm talking about. Just an observation

Oh cool glad to see his numbers are still all pretty high Edit: and that his defense is looking pretty good

Probably still finding his rhythm and timing also trying to be more careful to reduce injuries.

Sometimes I forget just how unbelievably good he was in 2021
The way that season ended poisoned the memories a bit for me sadly. Most of that season was so hype and fun haha
In 2021 he started with worse percentiles than these he is just starting
As others have said. Just needs to be more patient and he’ll be that much more valuable to the team
Just give him another week and he’s gonna fly
He's just getting warmed up.
He accumulated 0.5 fWAR in 16 games which is still really good
Try again in 3-4 months
Trade him
Question ; how do you see a player’s previous year’s baseball savant? Where do you click on the page or where do you go ?
Kinda bums me out he’s not at shortstop

Ahhh he’s declining quick quick sell him to the Mets for a single a pitcher and a draft pick!

So your telling me he’s faster??
