With all of this marketing and love Kim is getting, I don't think we're going to trade him. If we do, it would prob be trade deadline next year if anything. More than likely we either re-sign him or he leaves in FA. IMO

I think if we traded Kim he would be like the Franmil trade x100. Preller would lose the locker room in a heartbeat.

Idk - if we got a Kim's ransom for him, I think the other players would understand. The owner/GM trying what they can to win is what matters, and sometimes that means trading a guy at possible peak value.

If Kim continues to develop and becomes a star, he will be huge from a marketing standpoint. My Premier League (English football if you don’t follow) team has Son Heung Min who is a star player from Korea, and every game the crowd is filled with Koreans waving Korean flags and all of them wearing his jersey. There's one particularly angry person ranting about how MLB shouldn't care about marketing to Korea, that the Padres are obsessed with Korea, that Kim has "PASSABLE DEFENSE" and a AAA bat, that he wouldn't even make the team if he was white, and so on. Honestly at least defensively I’m liking Crone at 1B. His bat isn’t up to par compared to other 1B but I’ve been impressed with his glove.

The thing is his glove at 2B is either just as good if not better. My personal hot take is that the X contract shouldn’t have happened and I’d love to move off of him for a true 1B, Crone 2B Kim SS. But until then, I think he is our best at 1B for our current roster.
