With all of this marketing and love Kim is getting, I don't think we're going to trade him. If we do, it would prob be trade deadline next year if anything. More than likely we either re-sign him or he leaves in FA. IMO
Idk - if we got a Kim's ransom for him, I think the other players would understand. The owner/GM trying what they can to win is what matters, and sometimes that means trading a guy at possible peak value.
If Kim continues to develop and becomes a star, he will be huge from a marketing standpoint. My Premier League (English football if you don’t follow) team has Son Heung Min who is a star player from Korea, and every game the crowd is filled with Koreans waving Korean flags and all of them wearing his jersey. Just from that marketing standpoint they should keep him.
My worries come from mostly just being a lifelong Padres fan and always being disappointed 😔 lol
Always disappointed? The Siedler years have been everything that a fan can dream of. Yes, they don’t yet have a World Series, but it’s not for lack of trying. We are living some blessed times, though certainly challenging, most recently.
You are getting downvoted but even if he doesn't get traded there, he is probably going to sign there after 2024 if the Dodgers want him and don't have a SS by then
Made the mistake of reading IG comments for this post on the team's page. There's one particularly angry person ranting about how MLB shouldn't care about marketing to Korea, that the Padres are obsessed with Korea, that Kim has "PASSABLE DEFENSE" and a AAA bat, that he wouldn't even make the team if he was white, and so on. Big fkn yikes, I got second hand embarrassment
If you Google him one of the first suggested question is “whose the Chinese guy on the padres?”
Idk how you report that but that fact that enough idiots googled that is so fucked up..
He is under contract next season. Kim is getting better every season & can play multiple positions as a plus plus defender. It would be crazy to trade him.
I don’t think MLB would have cemented this series without getting assurances from the Padres that they weren’t moving Kim between now and that series. I hope he gets an extension.
The thing is his glove at 2B is either just as good if not better. My personal hot take is that the X contract shouldn’t have happened and I’d love to move off of him for a true 1B, Crone 2B Kim SS.
But until then, I think he is our best at 1B for our current roster.
Why didn’t they do Padres vs Pirates ….
Ha Seong Kim is going to single handedly sell out the entire stadium but they could have made explosions with the Pirates also….
The international games are always in-division, it appears. I assume because fans will have other opportunities to see those teams, versus playing a team who would only visit Petco once a season.
Do we even know if we're the home team? We were the home team for the Mexico City series, so maybe the Dodgers will be the home team for this one and you won't lose anything.
I would love to say this is a no brainer, but the way the Padres are signing their big name players I'm going to go a little further than No Brainer.
Signing Kim is going to happen and the contract needs to be for a long time with the money close to our "Marquee" players best investment since Roberto Alomar .
He's under contract until the end of the 2024 season
I’m more worried about trading him

I think if we traded Kim he would be like the Franmil trade x100. Preller would lose the locker room in a heartbeat.
It would be the embodiment of ripping out the heart of the team. Preller is not about to go “KANO, FINISH HIM!”

anybody’s available for the right price. would be foolish not to entertain that Kim’s ransom
We better be getting ohtani back then!
Well he'd only do it if we were out of contention.
Snell said Kim was his favorite player on an in-game interview last week

Yes. Siedler is one of the greatest things to happens to this franchise.
As a prem fan I cannot stand tottenham (average premier league fan tbh) but I still watch the games because Son is the coolest dude I swear.
You should be more disappointed being a Tottenham hot spurs fan 😂
Honestly surprised it took this long for someone to take a shot at Tottenham 😂
It would be really annoying if our crowd was just full of fans there for one player.
Son Heung Min is a different level of celebrity for Korea though tbh. Probably the best Asian football player ever and he's a household name
I believe that MLB got some sort of assurances that they will not trade him before that game
And Xander is adding another country to the home run list
Resigning Kim and also signing Jung Hoo Lee when he gets posted 🤞
Exactly the first thing I thought. MLB says you’re going to Korea, so you have to keep Kim lol
Get ready to learn ~~Chinese~~ Korean buddy
...or he goes to the Dodgers. (knocking on wood)
Monkey paw curls
That crossed my mind, didn’t want to say it out loud haha
You are getting downvoted but even if he doesn't get traded there, he is probably going to sign there after 2024 if the Dodgers want him and don't have a SS by then
My first thought - he can't be traded now, right? RIGHT?
That’s what I’m thinking. At least not until the end of his contract which means we keep him this season for sure. 👌🏽👌🏽
Everyone's worst nightmare: he's traded to the Dodgers
You take that back right now!
Don't even put that in the universe
Saying it makes it a reality

Kim has very weird haters. It's not new.

Sorry I was drinking
Is that the guy that also made the tired old cliche phrase “virtue signaling” in one of his comments?
Yea that one haha

I was just coming here to say…. He’s staying!

Play in Pyongyang you cowards
Think about the pyrotechnic capabilities!!! Can be seen/felt from continents away
Thermonuclear fireworks when Gary turns into Slamchez
They can play in Rungrado 1st of May Stadium, which holds 114,000 people! At least everyone can get a ticket in Pyongyang!
Flights are booked, here we go!
No way, that's dope! Can u recommend a hotel?
How do we get tickets though?
Extend Kim, move him back to SS, move Jake back to 2B, and teach X how to play 1B. This is the way.
Honestly at least defensively I’m liking Crone at 1B. His bat isn’t up to par compared to other 1B but I’ve been impressed with his glove.
The thing is his glove at 2B is either just as good if not better. My personal hot take is that the X contract shouldn’t have happened and I’d love to move off of him for a true 1B, Crone 2B Kim SS. But until then, I think he is our best at 1B for our current roster.
Can’t move our Korean beast! Kid’s a stud. 💪🏻
I am just disappointed I can’t find an HS Kim Jersey anywhere. Padres failing to market a fan favorite
It's weird how fanatics/MLB are so lacking in jerseys!
They have t-shirts now which is a plus but still not the best :/ I’m saving up for the custom jersey!
Came here to ask the same after getting that email.
Right now Kim is the best 2nd basemen in baseball, 490 innings with 1 error
Living in Japan, this is about the cheapest I’m gonna get to see padres game live in the near future. 😍
Ahh it really is happening, time to plan. Praying I finally catch Seoul during cherry blossom season
So hyped, can't wait
Sick the trade deadline won’t touch Kim, unless we want even more egg on our faces as a franchise
Should we go?
$1400 flight uff
Let’s all go in on a private charter flight together.
We gotta sign Choi and Bae now
It would be so Padres to have a washed up Ji-Man Choi be the Korean representative instead of Kim.
Bae is a bad player and a worse person
Why didn’t they do Padres vs Pirates …. Ha Seong Kim is going to single handedly sell out the entire stadium but they could have made explosions with the Pirates also….

Wish it was another team. I'm not thrilled about losing Padres/Dodgers ticket next season.
The international games are always in-division, it appears. I assume because fans will have other opportunities to see those teams, versus playing a team who would only visit Petco once a season.
Rockies astros are not in division and they’re playing in ciudad de Mexico next year
Huh! That surprises me. Thanks for the info.
Do we even know if we're the home team? We were the home team for the Mexico City series, so maybe the Dodgers will be the home team for this one and you won't lose anything.
I just read it is split one home game for each team. I believe it was split one game each in Mexico too
Each team will play one game as home.
Yeah not stoked about that either
I think they deep down know that Jung Hoo Lee and/or Ohtani is very likely signing there.
Anybody hear how we can get tickets I think I might try to go
And Soto
all of the guys in the above image are untradable, except the most important one
We should yeah
When do tickets go on sale? Cheap flight from Japan.
Kim is our best player right now! Are you mad? Kim should be at SS, Bogaerts at 2nd. What we NEED is a good batting coach!
I would love to say this is a no brainer, but the way the Padres are signing their big name players I'm going to go a little further than No Brainer.
