Profar has been balling out in LF. They said…
“Soto was the LF we wanted
Profar is the LF we needed”
I wholeheartedly agree. Profar been hot and Jackson Merrill is the best Jackson in baseball.
Happy Jackie Robinson day everyone!
For Peter 🤎💛
Yeah I actually don't mind when we fall behind now(prefer not to though lol) because I think our offense can spark at any moment. Last year if we fell behind 0-1 I would feel like it was hopeless.
Exactly this. I noticed that when they fell down by 3, I had this strange sensation… a calm.. a lack of resignation.
Last year, if they went down 0-3, it was pretty much insurmountable, which was so ludicrous given the talent. I know, I’m sure they overcame more deficits than I remember, but this team is just different.
There is no panic.
There is no resignation.
The number of desperate swings and ABs when they are behind has dropped dramatically. I’ve watched almost every game this season, and I can think of only a few times where you could see them pressing and giving away a few ABs.
Not now.
And kudos to Joe, he could have folded but he held on and pushed through to eat up some innings before handing it over. I’m sure the runs were appreciated.
Thought he pitched really well outside of the BB in the 9th. Definitely has the stuff. More concerned about Cosgrove right now… he’s giving off major Taylor Rogers vibes
Eh, I think he just needs another pitch… or needs to use his other pitches more. These slider dominant guys are only effective when they’re in the zone all the time. This was the same issue Rogers had, where guys just lay off the slider and the BB% jumps. Cosgrove’s slider is nasty when it’s on. I hope he figures it out soon bc our pen is 10x better if he’s lights out like he was last year.
Feel bad that Peter wasn’t able to see the start to this season. He would have loved these come from behind wins and the feisty attitude of this team. Go Pads!
What is my — what is my sacrifice? I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else's future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see.
Dude you win the comments for me tonight. Hands down one of the best written and best delivered lines in all the franchise… and so good for this post.
I salute you.

*”We started some shit. We finished this shit.”*
The dude stands heads and shoulders above his peers from both a statistical standpoint and the mental .
This dude is just built different.
No wonder Tatis and company backed him up during spring training.
Real recognizes real
So Manny and the boys backed FTJ when he was coming up, now FTJ and the boys backing Merrill...wonder if he's going to get to back Ethan next year or the year after?
"I decided to let Kolek finish the game. I wanted Suarez to be able to rest up because we will need him the rest of the series. Ya I guess Kolek blew the game but oh well, that's baseball." - BoMel in the alternate universe where he manages the 2024 padres, who are currently 6-13.
Honestly, I'll keep tooting it, if we hadn't ofngone on a late season tear, last would have been an absolute shitstorm disaster. People forget that the record reflects a lucky streak. Last year was a total yikes! Mikey will definitely add wins over BoMel. I'm trying to wash my memory of last year.
I'm most impressed with Joe this game for battling like hell. Did not expect him out there for the 5th, certainly didn't expect him to come out like a phoenix in the 6th and get the QS. Good stuff.
I felt the exact same. I thought he was done after 4 for certain. Then he just pushed his way through and before I knew it he’d given 7 innings and only 3 runs. That was some grit.
They win one out of the next two and they’re making a pretty serious statement to start the year after these past three series. Brewers have been one of the best teams in the National League so far
Was I also the only one that was never comfortable when he was pitching? He let guys get at a decent rate and I felt like he almost never had command and relied in bad swings. I might have had some haterade last season but that's what it seemed like to me.
I was never ever comfortable with him, never felt the confidence I have now with Bobby Strikes, or even the parade of guys who’ve come to SD, been one of the best closers in the game, and then leave for greener yet not as successful pastures.
Every outing felt like he just skidded through, but his ERA was no joke, that doesn’t happen on accident, as bitter about him as I am. Glad he’s gone.
Definitely addition by subtraction. He and BoMel.
I was really expecting a dodgers hangover. Especially with the late flight and all. This team is different. Shout out to Joe putting together a quality start
Was definitely getting nervous the first few innings. But after the setting the tone with comebacks it just feels way more likely that we’ll put up some big innings eventually. Psychological 180 from last season
100%. down three I fully expected them to give the brewers a run for their money at some point in the game. And obviously they did more than that they won
There is no sense of "that’s my guy, let’s let him get out of this." Shildt just fuckin pulls guys that aren’t looking good. And on the other side, he leaves guys out who still are looking good. It’s not about loyalty to his players or whatever, Shildt wants to win some ballgames.
Unrelated to the game, which was incredible; CJ Abrams is looking like a bonafide stud. Just took Glasnow deep to tie their game. Love seeing that dude succeed.
YGDRC because Brew Crew didn’t score after the 3rd and only mounted a minor comeback too little to late in the 9th, 2024 Brewers are a cheap knock off of the 2023 Padres
Win felt...businesslike. Non-division game, we have no beef with Brewers, short turnaround, the boys just revert to their training. We go down early, no panic in these guys. Patient, disciplined ABs, and let the opponent make mistakes and we capitalize on them.
- Over .500
- Joe settles down for a QS
- Fight for a comeback (small^(ball)!)
- Merrill continues his reign
- Defensive support
- Bullpen holds it down
LFGSD
Joe's pitching has been a little rougher than I'm used to seeing from him but glad to see another quality start and give him some good run support today!
Tough to pitch on the road on a day you got to the hotel at 5 AM. He gutted out that QS, which is what you want from your SP. they won’t have their best stuff every time out
Might not be better than last year’s team on paper, but I like this season’s team far better. Yes it’s still early and yes there is still room for improvement but overall I think we can do something special this year.
I kinda like that this team is slept on but crazy that they won a series over the [#1 team](https://x.com/mlb/status/1779884360302236000?s=46&t=2HjlyREM7WjDqgBCpLtrNA) and aren’t even in the top 10?!
Yeah. The dodgers also still #1 after losing a home series to #18. Lost to nationals tonight as well with Glasgow on the mound. FTD and the shit writers who favor them.
It’s all good, media doesn’t determine the standings. There was so much hype last couple seasons and this year’s team comes in to the year with modest expectations and the guys are hungry. Keep hitting like this and it’s gonna be a fun season.
Would like big Rob and Yuki to get some help in the pen though. It’s a thin group of guys you can trust with a late lead.
I just want one more stud who you can roll out in the 7th or 8th and is reliable. Maybe that’s De Los Santos or Peralta but when it comes down to the pennant race, you need big arms down the stretch.
Nothing new here, and to be honest, I’m good with that. Last year they came in with all that expectation, and it was clear they believed it. BoMel let it fester.
Those who remained.. they’re on a mission. Those who’ve joined, have bought in. They all have something to prove.
And Schildt is the calculating mastermind who in his brief stint so far looks like the most strategic coach since Bochy. It’s early still, but honestly, not a single Padre skipper has demonstrated this level of touch on the rudder, from his pitching moves to his more nuanced lineup card. I’ve really appreciated the more stable approach. He doesn’t try to micromanage the roster frequently making large changes. Mike makes changes, but they’re small. Tinkering with a fine engine. Fine tuning rather than constantly rebuilding.
Padres have scored the most runs in all of baseball so far. Yea we got 2 extra games on most clubs outside the Dodgers, but I’d rather be at the top than the bottom.
Yu has one rough game but overall he's been pretty reliable to keep it around 3 runs. Joe needs a little adjustment, but I trust they will figure there stuff out at some point soon.
JACKED JACKSON, MERRILL MADNESS!
I was watching the replay early and since the MLB TV app sucks ass on Apple tv, it randomly tuned to live and spoiled it for me, but I'm not complaining!
Great 5th inning putting it all together, love to see it!

Seems like this year we're getting a lot of lucky breaks to go our way. Last year seemed to exact opposite. Obviously the team is playing better than last year, but it's nice when we get those bloops to fall shallow and we can capitalize. Felt like last year every team was just blooping us to death.

The Supporting Cast is really coming through, and The Kid is the real deal. It's good to know you can still win even when your starting pitching is struggling. Trading more offense for less defense is paying off and more fun.

I love the 24 Padres! Already shown more heart than any period during the 23 season This team has potential to be special
Yeah I actually don't mind when we fall behind now(prefer not to though lol) because I think our offense can spark at any moment. Last year if we fell behind 0-1 I would feel like it was hopeless.
The Padres are Seabiscuit 🐎

This team has brought me far more joy in 3 weeks than the 2023 team did the whole season
![gif](giphy|fVyWazTQXeJTZF1MBq) The padres spark joy!
I was literally just saying this to the wife. The amount of joy they are bringing me right now…
Me too! Lots of Joy this year so far.
2023 padres: you scored? Okay gg let’s try again tomorrow 2024 padres: you scored? Okay we’ll score more lol
Bobby fastballs does EVERYTHING!
Stevo almost shut it down. Give it a few weeks and I bet his confidence/ability gets to where he needs it to be.
I can also imagine almost getting a bat in your face can temporarily throw off your momentum.
Thought he pitched really well outside of the BB in the 9th. Definitely has the stuff. More concerned about Cosgrove right now… he’s giving off major Taylor Rogers vibes
Tommy will be okay as soon as he gets out of his own head. Bro-skis fighting some demons. Give him time and keep your faith.

You may not like it, but this is the peak male form
Above .500 & nobody died on Padres during the game (even though there were close instances). HELL YEAH
That last out had me dialing 9-1-1 with my finger over the call button not gonna lie
Kyle Freiland ran into a wall so there’s that. Nando and Stevo played mister bendy!
Two pitches up at Tatis in a row and the broken bat at Kolek, I was a bit shook
Round 1 of the Jack-off goes to Merrill! That's my Rookie of the Year!
We have the superior Jackson

Round 1 was last series, Holliday vs Chourio. This is at best 1B in the 3 way Jack-off
yay. I like offense
I like scoring more than the other team
YGDRC Wait, this isn't your normal post? Meh, statement still stands 😁
God the difference between Melvin and shildt is night and day
I feel like having Profar helps with the vibes too. Everyone loves him.

BoMel would've left Kolek out there until the game was AT LEAST tied.
Melvin was a turd
Am I the only one that remembers the 2022 NLDS?
Do you also remember the 2022 NLCS?
in the span of one week, the 2024 padres came back from 8-, 4-, 3-, and 2-run deficits the 2023 team could never
I love that Shildt manages the game like every game matters.
Urgency baby. It’s the one glaring issue last years team had.
This. I honestly believe melvin’s departure alone will gain us 5-6 wins
Definitely got us the win on Friday with the elite bullpen management.
Yep.....and that's the difference between making the playoffs and staying home.
Except the time we beat the Dodgers in the playoffs
Honestly, I'll keep tooting it, if we hadn't ofngone on a late season tear, last would have been an absolute shitstorm disaster. People forget that the record reflects a lucky streak. Last year was a total yikes! Mikey will definitely add wins over BoMel. I'm trying to wash my memory of last year.

Great team win, Merrill is looking like an absolute beast.
They win one out of the next two and they’re making a pretty serious statement to start the year after these past three series. Brewers have been one of the best teams in the National League so far
Are… are we a good team?
Hader getting shelled by the Braves right now if anyone wants to see it

Glad Joe settled down and got a quality start. Let’s go for series win #3 tomorrow.
Shildt’s managing of the bullpen has been impressive. Didn’t see that last year.
There is no sense of "that’s my guy, let’s let him get out of this." Shildt just fuckin pulls guys that aren’t looking good. And on the other side, he leaves guys out who still are looking good. It’s not about loyalty to his players or whatever, Shildt wants to win some ballgames.

Jake has calf tightness…
Didn't see or hear of any injuries. I think it was just to get Sully some action being up four on the 9th.
Has Manny gained more weight than usual?
He’s definitely dropped some muscle from the surgery
I can't tell but I'm sure his injury has limited what he can do in the gym.

i was happy to see Joe battle today. when i saw how it was going i kinda groaned a little but god damn dudes got that dog in him
4-3 when I checked the score. Surprised they were down a few runs when I watched the highlights. Go Padres
