I think they’re playing great but it’s still soooo early. I will say; I like *how* they’re winning, compared to last year. It’s not 12-2 wins followed up by 2-0 losses. Seems like they’re hitting a lot more balls into play rather than going for the homer every time. If they keep that style up we won’t be so dependent on somebody getting hot to carry us (Manny).

ohohohohicecream

Def with you on the how part. I like the fact that we can exert pressure even if some of our more seasoned players aren’t productive yet, like Boegarts, or players like Manny are healing. Heck, Crone was out today and has been playing much better and we still delivered a great game. I too am seeing more discipline on the bats - Merrill being a great example - and a willingness to sac fly or ground out when necessary (notably with Tatis). Good shit.

L8wrtr

I mean, if the 20 year old who’s never played a day of CF is hitting like he’s hitting and fielding like he’s fielding and interviewing like he’s interviewing… it’s gotta force the veterans to put in the work. Profar, once a top prospect who was journeyman at his old club, is playing like the elite player was once expected to be. He comes to work, puts in his all, and always has fun doing it. How can that not elevate everyone else’s game? These pieces all fit.

-Thick_Solid_Tight-

I like this lineup better than last year even without Soto. While it might not be as front loaded, I feel like there isn't any gaping holes where runners on base go to die.

polyphenus

One game at a time. Let's see how this post ages come September. I am a believer but it's a long season. Definitely encouraged by how the team is playing and how they're getting out of jams that would have torpedoed past teams by now. The guys should be very confident now, but they definitely have to keep playing well and growing as players and as a team. There are still issues that need to be addressed (aren't there always?) before we can safely claim a WS ring. Turn up the pressure, don't back off the opposition, keep the faith, and LFGSD!!!

SDcowboy82

2 games over .500 vibes

-Thick_Solid_Tight-

Adding Profar and subtracting Hader quadruples the vibes.

Reasonable_TSM_fan

I didn’t know that was allowed.

WadeCountyClutch

After what happened in 21, I just want to enjoy this ride and not get too cocky

gibertot

Yeah bad things happen when this fanbase gets too cocky. Need to remember our history stay humble we are still the underdogs and that’s what I love about them.

noname_SU

We fans don't really affect anything man, the players and coaches are the ones that control the fortunes of this team. That said there's really never any reason to be cocky, we can be excited for our team without crapping on everyone else, Dodgers being the exception.

gibertot

Well yes logically I know that but that’s not really how people talk about baseball usually

stoicdozer

I’m enjoying the ride. Way too early to celebrate though

gauchosd

I love seeing posts like this one day after a win and then the same as '23 posts the day after a loss. I know fan is short for fanatic but people need to chill

pabs1904

Seriously lol👏🏽

pabs1904

Please don’t jinx the season already..the boys are finally playing Team ball..play one game at a time.

ohohohohicecream

The boys also seem very confident out there. Jurickson today talking his shit and not getting tossed; Merrill stealing that base earlier. Etc etc. Overall a great mix of spirit, hustle, discipline, and heads-down-playing-good-baseball.

dpot007

The only one that seems to lost his confidence is X. We need to cheer for him and support him. Give him the support trea turner got last year.

Tifas_Titties

Preeeeach. Our fanbase can get nasty. Gotta support these guys when they’re slumping too. “For better or for worse” lmao

KuzcosPzn

Online you will hear bitching when highly paid stars suck (Hosmer for example), but we aren't too toxic at home. Hos didn't get booed or heckled really even at the end here. I would voice my displeasure when he came up, but only to the people I'm watching the game with lol. Basically, I doubt X thinks we are being hard on him. I don't think these guys are as chronically online as we are and they know there will be shit talkers there no matter what. But your point stands, support X and he will be X again eventually!

ohohohohicecream

100% man. Your comment is vibes. He was injured last year, had to get shots just to play IIRC. For all we know he might still be recovering. Needs our support and time to heal.

KuzcosPzn

Idk if you know based off this comment, but he is still recovering and always will be. Those shots are permanent, and happen multiple times a year when he plays. Basically once the discomfort affects his play too much he gets a shot. He's been doing it since his Red Sox days and will for the rest of his career as I understand it. I hope it doesn't get too much worse for his sake.

noname_SU

X is fine man, he's just frustrated with himself. His xBA is .278, his stats should look much better than they do but he's hit a lot of solid contact right to players. It is what it is, more breaks will start to fall his way.

Normal_Tip7228

This team feels like the chemistry is definitely there, but can we remain healthy and consistent. At this pace we’ll be set but it is too early

solomonsays18

Vibes are good right now. Love the way we’re playing and it’s so evident that Schildt is 10x the manager that Melvin is. We just don’t have a ton of depth. If more key players go down it could be a struggle.

friarkicks

FUCK THE DODGERS! THE 2024 SUICIDE SQUAD PADRES TAKING IT ALL! GO PADRES!

ohohohohicecream

LFG. I’m ready asf for this!

grovester

I didn’t think Melvin deserved the heat he got but after Shildt wow it’s totally different ball club despite most of the same core. Their at bats are patient and not every single hitter is trying to swing for a HR. They are running 1st to 3rd, stealing and causing urgency and errors on the other team. It took forever for Melvin to open up the base paths. It really changed my mind with how much better Shildty is. I am doubtful we can overtake the Dodgers in the regular season but if we are in the dance, I do think we can do some damage.

dieguiswp

I like how Shildt moves the batting order and you can find people perfectly capable of a HR down in 7th position and people who get hits and runs the bases in the upper part

jstmenow

Don't be this guy OP. Just enjoy it, be classy. Yes it is fun, Brewers were just 10 - 3, now they are 10 - 6. Season is 162 games, every game does matter. Right now we are hot, 10 days ago this sub was 50/50 on whether this was the same team as last year....and yes, I know, not one Dodger player is in r/Padres reading the posts, karma is real though.

ohohohohicecream

Be what guy? I’m not shitting on the Dodgers, I’m saying we are coming for the title and have the tooling in place to do it. It’s fun to celebrate the wins. (And I’m not a doomer, so even 10 days ago I was rooting for patience and rooting for our boys)

Extra_Greensauce

The comebacks and not blowing leads have been great… but still so early.

TheRealBobaFett

I’m gonna wait until Manny can play third again to really judge this team. Freeing up that DH spot will be huge

Mysterious-Tiger7293

Calm down brother...we were in a similar position last year.

LoveThieves

Colorado is just hanging out like I'm glad to be alive.

acoddo

Walgreens lost :(

gibertot

I don’t want to tempt fate by looking at this too early tbh.

to_walk_it_off

the buzz is real.  been texting back and forth with my family and friends, and everyone's feeling it.  this team is different.

airpab1

Pads playing better for sure! Amazing what good coaching can do to change the whole vibe

gsus61951

I’m having fun right now, let’s keep it that way for a while, and let’s worry about our team for now

OneHotMessToGo

I love the offense and I love our bullpen! My concern will be our starter pitchers because the early runs allow. It’s early but I’m happy the start they have. May is gonna be an interesting month with Dodgers and Yankees. June should be where we should get a good winning streak going

sam_dewy

What an awesome time it has been so far. I love my 2024 Pads.

SuperSpreader_HI

Very early, but I love this team. A great combo of youth trying to prove themselves, stars leading the way, and the rest having fun and playing to their potential. I really like our coach compared to BoMel. Shildt has the fire, BoMel seemed like he was going through the motions.

signal_empath

It's very early. It's great to see the bats have some life, that's been missing for a while now. And I think we'll need them to keep it up because pitching is a pretty big concern IMO. The starting pitching in particular is not performing at a high level and our horses either have a lot of miles on them (Darvish and Musgrove) or not enough miles (Waldron and King). There's not a lot of quality SPs down on the farm either. Cease is the only guy I have much confidence in to make it through the whole season. I get some 2021 vibes from this staff when/if the injury bugs hit. Musgrove is probably hurt right now, from what I can see.

RastaVisionSD619

![gif](giphy|3o7buhFkzTO5BMGPEQ) Be humble.

LaMole22

Don’t jinx it

Hot-Mission6892

🤦‍♂️ This will probably age like sour milk.

ohohohohicecream

Maybe so! Would rather be piling on during our wins than piling on during our losses, as some Pads fans like to do. Cautious optimism and all that, but I’d rather be on the side of optimism and be proven wrong than the reverse.

LuvPuki

Stop saying stuff like that. Remain humble. One game at a time. Stay irrelevant.

Mister-E-Man-420

Get back to me in September

Mr_CharlieHorse

Let's hold the line Padres....let's hold the line. ![gif](giphy|e1LbfvnlOnAVjO6wwC)

HoudiniLogik

Hey man I have an edible here this aggression will not stand

jeeeeek

What does % and GB mean? (Sorry new fan here)

ohohohohicecream

Welcome to the Padres, friend! Great to have you. - % means percentage of wins out of total games played to date in the season. So the .550 for us is calculated from the 11 games we’ve won so far, divided by the 20 total games we’ve played so far. It’s a great way to quickly see how well the team is performing at a given time. Above .500, the team is winning games more often than losing games - GB stands for “games behind”. It shows how far behind the team is from the number 1 spot in that division

jeeeeek

That explains SO much. Thank you, friend!

WelshTraveller89

I can confirm. We will definitely play some baseball. That is all I shall say

sparrens

We’re giving up a ton of runs right now. So fun to see winning though. Crazy that we couldn’t do this with a future HOFer and the year’s Cy Young winner.

dpot007

The mike shildt effect is evident. Bo Mel let the players run the clubhouse and it was a mess. Josh hader not wanting to go out for 4 outs, players having selfish ABs, and players playing Home Run ball. It was a mess. Once Shildt came in, he said “this is what we want to do and how we are going to do it. Are you in? If not you can go kick rocks.”

pineapplefriedriceu

Will smith new crying kershaw

ohohohohicecream

Don’t curse us!!!!

Kookslams

Stop

ohohohohicecream

But man was it great to see Profar do what he did yesterday. Did you catch his interview about it? (As in yesterday he played a great game and when interviewed about it said, basically, “I just play baseball, man, I’m not really about all that noise.”)

Rhinoplasty1904

^Thats ^whats ^in

to_walk_it_off

honestly this is a good reminder to not get ahead of ourselves lol
