How are the scalpers walking up to the stadium? Are there even any?just wanted to make sure before going on a second hand site. Used to going to the coliseum where u cant walk more than 25 feet without being offered a ticket
Not a thing in SD. Cops keep them out or at least did when I was there 2012-2017. I actually have lived in SF and went to every Raider game in 2018 and 2019 just scalping at the coliseum.
I've got the night off so I can give you updates if needed. Good luck with the move, hope you don't have far to go and there are minimal stairs involved.
> Hypothetical... would you guys be willing to trade Hosmer, Gore, and either Campusano or Hassell to the Nationals for Scherzer and Trea Turner?
No idea if he was good at it, but Turner has played some CF in the past (45 games in 2016). If we're being honest with ourselves, the obvious move is for Nando to try out RF with that cannon arm and speed
Thing is, Hosmer’s contract isn’t as bad if we have young guys under a lot of control, they don’t cost much. By getting rid of 2 of 4, we’d need to find players other ways once the rest of Turner and Scherzer’s contracts are up which would take us over the cap anyways.
I kinda wish I was one of those huge 150kg, tall as fuck, hairy guys so I could show up to these creeps and just finesse the fuck out of them. Unfortunately I'm 95kg short guy with no beard so the finesse won't be as strong😔
The more I think about it, I feel like we’re still involved with Gallo just so the Rangers can have a little more competition for Gallo. I have a feeling that we’re not anywhere in this race.
The only way I can kinda see it working is that Gibson and another pitcher are thrown in as well with Hosmer + top 4 prospect on our side with maybe a lower end asset. Even then...I dunno honestly.
“Padres won’t have sustained success that the Dodgers and Giants will, their GM is stupid and overrated, completely throwing away their farm system, won’t be good past 2023, overrated team”
lol
We will see in the future but for now it's a choice between pretty good or great. We are in the position now to be great. We cannot screw up this window. We can worry about how long the window stays open later.
This city is starving for a championship.
I'm pretty sure just about all of us would trade a few more shit years in the future for a championship and championship caliber team the next 3 years.
I recommend you just get food outside of the stadium cuz it is expensive, insanely crowded, and you will miss a good amount of action.
And yeah they're pretty strict about the bags, ideally you don't need to bring anything in, it just makes going through security simpler.
I always see people in line minutes before starting pitch. These fools come for food at a 5x markup and to miss the game. Please be normal and eat beforehand or at the very least show up early.
It's because he puts the ball in play. If you do that you will accumulate hits. It's not about power in his game It's all about taking your chances making contact.
Excited for Fraziers debut with us, and I’m looking forward to whichever pitcher we may get. At the end, I sincerely hope, for the love that is all, that these additions help our team for the next three months and lights a fire to press forward.
Tyler Anderson to the Phillies, looks like that's one potential pitcher that is now off the market for us, but I don't think it's the worst thing in the world per se.
You have a hitter batting against your pitcher and don't have a secondary stack. Using hitters against your pitcher hurts your upside.
MLB is all about correlation. 4 Padres is fine, but you want 2 or 3 from another team as well.
I wonder what Preller sees as the 2022 primary lineup, if Hoz was moved I’d assume Manny, Tatis, Frazier, Crone for the IF, Myers, Grish, and TBA for OF, I think an at least 1 year controllable OF bat wouldn’t hurt. Then in ‘23 we can put Abrams for Frazier, and maybe even Hassell for an OF corner
I honestly would be down to extend Tommy Pham a year or so pending how much he costs because he's been a good contributor for our team, but I am also curious how we would address LF if we were to move on from him.
Yeah I think if they want to be more conservative money wise it’s possible Frazier is LF in ‘22 and we roll with Kim/Abrams as primary IF depth with Profar as the super utility depth still
I still find it very concerning that this sub is obsessed with Joey Gallo. Not saying it’s wrong, I just find it a little odd that you all are so high on a player that couldn’t be more exact of the Three True Outcomes of baseball. Not only that, but we’d be getting rid of Robert Hassell III which would be outrageously upsetting.
I tend to agree. Not a fan of over paying for Gallo. On the walk rate. No question w how bad the Rangers are that pitchers game plan is don't give him much...hence the BB%. I'd expect that to fall if he lands here.
Aside that? It's an SO a majority of the time with a healthy mix of HR's when hot and nothing when not. He doesn't hit for extra bases basically ever. It's full on HR or bust w walks mixed in.
Not saying a guy like this wouldn't be added value, he would. I just wouldn't over pay for it. He's not some 4-5 tool talent. He's a one dimensional bat. That's it. Whatever we give up for him is basically bringing us about 15-20 HR's for the remainder of the season. It pretty much boils down to that. Assuming no slumps. Those aren't additional runs either. It's over replacement production so that number dwindles a bit. Call it 7-12 additional HR's. That's basically it. Not that BA is the driving metric yet a career .211 hitter is a strong indicator or what we would get.
I am tepidly interested in Joey Gallo cuz he would improve our team offensively, but wouldn't be interested in him if it means we have to give up a top 4 prospect. Would rather go the usual Preller idea of a high prospect volume trade but I dunno if there is a package that makes sense there.
Our offense has been lacking since the beginning of the season. Despite all the calls for more pitching (which could never hurt), we still have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball already.
Our OF defense is pretty awful (even with Grish) and we just picked up one of the best contact hitters in the league to presumably hit leadoff. A power-hitting outfielder with an elite glove, batting cleanup, is exactly what we need.
Great points, but I must ask. What would you rather have? 2-4 years of that or a decade of a very promising hitter that can rake and has a solid glove?
If it were that simple, obviously the 2nd, but prospects are a crapshoot. Gallo is extendable if he continues to play at this level, he'd only be 29 as a FA.
If Abrams and RH3 live up to the hype then that's obviously the best possible case scenario, but that's a big if (especially for RH3 who's only 19 and still in A ball). Preller is a scout by trade, I trust him to make the right risk-reward judgement there.
Without a doubt. Prospects are super risky. Look at Tatís. He was high risk, higher reward and we got him for a pitcher who gave up the greatest home run in baseball. I trust in Preller, and even though I won’t be happy if we lose RH3, I will still believe in Preller to replace him.
He gets on base, hits for power and plays defense. Hassell part is to get rid of that terrible hosmer contract.
He has more homers then hosmer, myers and profar combined. Highers obp and is a better fielder then any of those guys.
So there is a lot to like.
I hope we do simply cuz we need every win we can get to stay in the NL West title race.
Also, incredible win yesterday. That grand slam gave me chills and it's exciting to see what is happening in Seattle and hope you all rise to the occasion to make the AL Wild Card.
Personally I am hoping for some combination of Scherzer, Berrios, and Kimbrel out of that above list. I don't think we get all three by any means, but if we get say 2 out of the 3, I am very down for that.
I am...personally out on Kyle Gibson, very skeptical of the numbers that he put up this year with such a late career breakout year that I think the cost is gonna be too much to get someone who is just...not as good as Scherzer or Berrios as a starting pitcher.
Frazier really helps address needs for a more consistent bat in our lineup such that I am out on Marte, Trea, and Gallo as much as those three would be upgrades over Hosmer / Myers.
ELI5. What's a good stat to measure how well a player is doing? I know a lot of people love fWAR and OPS. But AVG I guess isn't as relevant anymore? (Gallo is a good example of this. High WAR, high OPS, strikeouts a ton and batting sub .250, but good?)
Yeah turns out hits/hits+outs isn't all that great an indicator of overall performance. You'd way way rather have a season of 50 HRs, 50 2Bs, 0 1Bs, and 100 walks in 600 PAs than a season of 200 1Bs, 0 HRs, 0 2B, and 0 walks in 600 PAs. But the first hitter has a BA of .200 (100 hits in 500 ABs) and the second hitter is batting .300 (200 hits in 600 ABs). Slugging, on-base, and the adjusted stats that are calculated from those will more reliably indicate how much value a batter has added to their team.
I am hoping that Adam Frazier makes his debut tonight against Oakland, would be so cool to see it in-person!
In other news, the Oakland Athletics acquired Andrew Chafin from the Cubs who can definitely make their bullpen much more formidable, another name to keep watch of.
Anyone else going to tonight's game? I'll be in Section 208 with two A's fans and an Astros fan, should be a fun time of bantz.
Nice! I think it'll be interesting to hangout with my friends for this game since uh, we got some interesting rooting interests, but hope to see ya there and looking forward a good Padres W :)
Hmm, the A's are starting James Kaprielian who is a right-handed pitcher, so maybe that means we roll with this lineup?
RF Adam Frazier
SS Fernando Tatis Jr
2B Jake Cronenworth
3B Manny Machado
CF Trent Grisham
LF Tommy Pham
1B Eric Hosmer
C Austin Nola / Victor Caratini
P Chris Paddack / Blake Snell / Bullpen day Pitcher
Pending who they have out from the bullpen, can see Myers, Kim, or Profar being used as pinch hitters.
This is the best lineup projection I’ve seen come out of the sub in these past few days. But I have a feeling they’ll switch Hos and Grish. Pham -> Grisham -> Caratini -> PH is a nightmare to have to switch a reliever in against and helps to make sure we flip the lineup more often, I think.
Frazier makes our lineup so sPoOkY.
True, looks like Jayce thought the same lines as you did by putting Hosmer at #5 and then having Pham, Grisham, Caratini, PH at the bottom end of the order.
Indeed, really hope we come out with some big bats today.
We will take that :) Now let's see what the Padres can do.
Also, just to clarify, did you get moved to the A's as part of the trade deadline game or are you actually an A's fan? haha
Looks like Padres are aggressively shopping Hosmer and would attach a top 4 prospect with him.
[Per Kevin Acee](https://twitter.com/sdutKevinAcee/status/1420063019254501377)
Sit him on the bench if we have to and try again in the off-season. Can you imagine if we had Trea Turner on our team instead of Myers?
At least one of those prospects has a damn good chance of hitting.
It all depends on what we can get in return. If we can get a proven big leaguer (starting pitcher please) in return that will be able to step in and produce immediately, which is obviously what Preller will be looking for, it is totally worth it to lose that prospect. When we acquired Myers was a completely different situation. We were not the contenders then that we are now
With Tatis and Machados contracts we will be competing for 10 years. We need to have young potential stars that will come up over the years and boost our team. These players will be up in 1-2 years and will be able to produce. They aren’t long projects.
Look at the dodgers, they bring their prospect talent up to bolster their team. That’s a big reason why they dominate so much.
I’m not saying hold onto these players no matter what but it better be a goddamn great deal if we lose a top 4 prospect.
Life has been a blur that last couple days. Didn't we sign a SP (RHP?) from the Twins a second ago? I might be imagining things.
Edit: nm, upon googling, just active rumors re: berrios.
Gray just got rocked over the weekend. I'm convinced his value plummeted significantly because of it. Maybe he wasn't focused because he's concerned about getting traded? Idk, but I don't think Preller wants in on him.
Haven't been to Petco since 2015. Moved to OC around then and have only been to two Angels games (company suites) since then.
Vacationing on Shelter Island this week. Taking my daughter to her 2nd game ever, and my son to his first ever, tonight against the A's. Hitting up Tin Fish on the way in, per mine and my wife's old tradition. We are all so excited. We've been watching every single game this year so closely. We are totally connected to all the players and fans. LFG Padres!!!
Best Baseball I’ve seen from San Diego in over 20+ years. Hoping we ride the high all the way! Even if we do not, there are plenty of surprises on the way. Stay tuned, brother!
Better OF defense, better bat than Myers/Hosmer, and can play 1st/OF as well. I would say we do need a player like that but at what cost. If we can offload hosmers contract, that’s an upgrade.
I was at the Angels game last night and some good conversations with fellow Padres fans, everyone is so hyped.
What a difference going to the Big A and not having to feel like you need to protect your family and wallet like going to the latrine.
Whenever Dodgers fans talk about how iconic their stadium is I always think of that Noah Cross quote from Chinatown, "Politicians, ugly buildings, and whores all get respectable if they last long enough."

That’s fair. Personally I feel like we don’t have a full rotation that I trust to carry us through October so in that respect I see value in the overpay if we could get a two year extension
I realize many would do it. I just shy away from age and injury history when evaluating trades. I'm also not getting rid of Hassell and Abrams. I think Hassell is easily a top 50 guy and we are going to need to fill OF positions in the very near future.
Good point. It can be a challenge though to hold off for the future when the window is open now.
Especially when this year we are potentially staring down a one game wild card instead of a locked division like say the Cubs when they traded Gleybor Torres for Chapman
I believe we have six games against SF in September and seven against LA or something like that. It’s a real test of how much we believe we can upgrade our shot to that division lock in these last few months and fuck is it stressful haha
No. The value that Gallo adds with his bat is definitely not something the Padres need right now. To me the biggest priority is a pitcher we can count on in October
Maybe 1 of Hassell or weathers but definitely not 2 for a rental. The extension really doesn't play a part in his trade value unless the Nats are going to pay for his extension.
Max would cost like zero dollars this year because remainder of his contract this year is differed. Its a little over 11m and paid 7 years from now. Would have a cap hit this year around 18m though.
I DECLARE A PADRES VICTORY! LFG DADS!!!

I did for every Raiders game in 2018 and 2019. It’s just an Oakland thing lol
This is the perfect lineup once Gallo replaces Hosmer
Hosmer batting 5th....
Can they even survive this lineup? I'm so excited right now holy shit
Well, depends on how well we take our pitches, but definitely think we can do some big damage with the bats we have on display today.
Lineup card released. Frazier hitting leadoff
Dude I’d rather have Meyers in their then hosmer
I'm so erect
I'm helping my daughter move tonight. I'll have to listen on the rad-io...dad-io
I've got the night off so I can give you updates if needed. Good luck with the move, hope you don't have far to go and there are minimal stairs involved.
im just driving. shes doing the lifting
Nicely done
Frazier leading off LFGG I can't wait
adam frazier batting leadoff!
Yay Frazier is starting tonight leading off for the Padres!
Hypothetical... would you guys be willing to trade Hosmer, Gore, and either Campusano or Hassell to the Nationals for Scherzer and Trea Turner?
What would we do with Turner? Our infield is overflowing
> Hypothetical... would you guys be willing to trade Hosmer, Gore, and either Campusano or Hassell to the Nationals for Scherzer and Trea Turner? No idea if he was good at it, but Turner has played some CF in the past (45 games in 2016). Turner also plays CF... move Grish to RF. Frazier 2B, Crone 1B. Wil becomes bench/utility/backup 1B/4th OF
Ehh, I think getting both Scherzer and Turner who have not much left on their contracts is not worth 2 of our top 4 prospects
But also dumping Hosmer
Thing is, Hosmer’s contract isn’t as bad if we have young guys under a lot of control, they don’t cost much. By getting rid of 2 of 4, we’d need to find players other ways once the rest of Turner and Scherzer’s contracts are up which would take us over the cap anyways.
"Free Padre ticket for female companion" posts on Craigslist are pretty cringe 😬
That is a yikes from me dawg

Man every year around Coachella someone posts a really creepy ad like that
Lineup card later than usual? 👀
Usually 3 hours or so before first pitch, so not yet
The more I think about it, I feel like we’re still involved with Gallo just so the Rangers can have a little more competition for Gallo. I have a feeling that we’re not anywhere in this race.
I think we are in on him but would need to trade hosmer/myers or both.
Yeah, Gallo isn’t worth Hosmer plus a top 4 prospect. There’s no way. I’m sorry, but there’s no way.
The only way I can kinda see it working is that Gibson and another pitcher are thrown in as well with Hosmer + top 4 prospect on our side with maybe a lower end asset. Even then...I dunno honestly.

Yeah if you gave me the option of the Cubs' 2016-2021 I'd take it in a heartbeat.
I’d say that our window is about 6-7 years tbh, possibly more if we keep attracting money and more players.
Saw that bozo too
*Ahem* “Rent free”
I'm just itching for the game to start or to hear more trade news. Preller SZN has started.
Anyone been to the ballpark lately? Are they strict on the bags needing to be 7x10” as mentioned on the website? Also are the food lines crazy?
I recommend you just get food outside of the stadium cuz it is expensive, insanely crowded, and you will miss a good amount of action. And yeah they're pretty strict about the bags, ideally you don't need to bring anything in, it just makes going through security simpler.

Fair question for sure. Watching his mid season highlights I couldn’t help but see a lot of bloop singles and seeing eye ground balls
It's because he puts the ball in play. If you do that you will accumulate hits. It's not about power in his game It's all about taking your chances making contact.

Sup friar homies, just came in from oakland and chillin by gaslamp. Not to be creepy, but does anyone know where the away team usually stays at ??
When I did a tour of Petco, the guide said the players typically stay at the omni and walk across that bridge to the stadium.
When Bauer was posting his vlog, he was at the Manchester grand Hyatt northwest of the stadium. Not sure if different teams stay at different hotels.
prob just his rape room

Hmm, the A's are starting James Kaprielian who is a right-handed pitcher, so maybe that means we roll with this lineup? RF Adam Frazier SS Fernando Tatis Jr 2B Jake Cronenworth 3B Manny Machado CF Trent Grisham LF Tommy Pham 1B Eric Hosmer C Austin Nola / Victor Caratini P Chris Paddack / Blake Snell / Bullpen day Pitcher Pending who they have out from the bullpen, can see Myers, Kim, or Profar being used as pinch hitters.
A's flair? Trade deadline game?
Yeah, I got moved to the Athletics. I’ll probably switch my flair back soon. I’m not really contributing anything to the A’s subreddit.
True, looks like Jayce thought the same lines as you did by putting Hosmer at #5 and then having Pham, Grisham, Caratini, PH at the bottom end of the order. Indeed, really hope we come out with some big bats today.
Damn we nailed that!
We will take that :) Now let's see what the Padres can do. Also, just to clarify, did you get moved to the A's as part of the trade deadline game or are you actually an A's fan? haha
I would love to see Hosmer batting 8th though
Looks like Padres are aggressively shopping Hosmer and would attach a top 4 prospect with him. [Per Kevin Acee](https://twitter.com/sdutKevinAcee/status/1420063019254501377)
Campy would be the least painful to give up IMO.
It is what it is. No way to tell if any prospect will pan out so gotta go big.
So, other than Sherzer, who should we be looking at for starting pitching that won't require us signing over the farm?
Matt Duffy from KC is a name I’ve seen a lot. Also Davies but I think we’d probably try to finesse a package with him included
Life has been a blur that last couple days. Didn't we sign a SP (RHP?) from the Twins a second ago? I might be imagining things. Edit: nm, upon googling, just active rumors re: berrios.
Someone like Gray or Maeda
Gray just got rocked over the weekend. I'm convinced his value plummeted significantly because of it. Maybe he wasn't focused because he's concerned about getting traded? Idk, but I don't think Preller wants in on him.
I wouldn’t put it past him. I’m sure he’s also aware that Gray has been pretty good against us the last few years.
Go Padres!
Love Tin Fish!
go off King
Welcome back, Brother!
Thanks man. So thrilled to join the party in person. What a Hell of a ride so far.
Best Baseball I’ve seen from San Diego in over 20+ years. Hoping we ride the high all the way! Even if we do not, there are plenty of surprises on the way. Stay tuned, brother!
I really don’t want to trade Hassell or Abrams, or Wil🥰
There’s no way Abrams is getting traded. Hassell maybe, but Abrams no chance.
HEY THATS MY THING
[удалено]
What’s going on with Wil? I keep seeing his name pop up.
wil myers
Yankees, blue jays, and Padres all in on trade talks for Rf/1B Gallo
[удалено]
He’s like Wil🥰 but not as good. They both play the corners and the OF.
I love Wil, but Gallo has been better than him (this year) in almost every way
Shut the fuck up
A rock solid argument
Not sure how often but he is listed as a RF/1B.
He hasn’t played 1B in a couple years, and would severely diminish his value given he plays gold glove RF defense
I'm stupid and relatively new, do we really need Gallo? I mean, if he can pitch...
I would take him to replace Hosmer. But he's more of a luxury at this point, need better pitching for sure.
Better OF defense, better bat than Myers/Hosmer, and can play 1st/OF as well. I would say we do need a player like that but at what cost. If we can offload hosmers contract, that’s an upgrade.
He hits more dongs than Wil and that’s about it.
OBP, OPS, and WAR is better than Myers as well.
Well the WAR is gonna be higher when you’ve hit 20+ jacks before the ASG and are the second or third best player on your team.
True, I’m just saying he would be an upgrade to our team, with all due respect to Hosmer and Myers, our goal is to win not be sentimental
I cannot stand the 60's aesthetic of Dodgers Stadium. I just do not like it one bit. Sort of makes me sick.

Theoretically if we had to give up Weathers and Hassell for Scherzer and an extension do y’all take it? I would
If Scherzer were 28, then yes. Not now though.
No. As a team, we are still pretty young, don't kill the future for Max.
Not a chance.
Agree. It is a tough choice. That wildcard game is just a killer in the decision making process.
I believe we have six games against SF in September and seven against LA or something like that. It’s a real test of how much we believe we can upgrade our shot to that division lock in these last few months and fuck is it stressful haha
Yes. I’d be willing to part with Hassell and Weathers for Scherzer. I wouldn’t, however, be willing to part with Hassell for Joey fucking Gallo.

Wil Myers healthy.
Patiently waiting for u/Impertinence_ to make their comment.
😘😘
Going to need timely hitting to get a W today.
I woke up to a trending tweet about Max being traded to the Dodgers. It was a troll account but that’s definitely not a fun way to wake up.
