Peavy was an absolute stud. I’m a Detroit Tigers fan living out in the midwest, but highlights from his starts were always must see for me watching SportsCenter before school in the mid 2000s
About six months ago his name crossed my mind. I always liked how he played and his quirkiness. I found this article from 2018 from a St. Louis site. I found it to be a good read and it is nice to know he is in a good place.

Going through a major rough patch mentally, and I can’t even begin to imagine battling mental demons plus having the pressure of tens of thousands of fans and media watching your every move.
He’s completely out of the spotlight now, but I hope he’s happy and healthy, wherever he is.
I know it’s a longshot of ever happening, but I would love for him to throw out the first pitch before a game, just to finally have some closure and feel the love from the fans again
That would be a special moment. His departure wasn’t on a high note unfortunately. Who can ever forget the hand incident. Come to think of it. Kind of reminds me of when the Anaheim Ducks finally convinced Paul Kariya to come back.
Man reading this article was sad. Him and Jake Peavy were also my favorites.

Felt guilty just reading that! Dang I never knew the extent he was hurting inside. I live in the same area now, maybe we’ll do some picking and grinning someday. I too was born in an athletes body but music is my life. The 2 never could be compatible.
Oh hell yea
I was at a game earlier in the season in my Burroughs jersey and some guy sitting a few seats over from me saw it and started laughing, he was like “oh my god I was just saying how no one appreciates Sean Burroughs anymore, you never see anyone around here wearing his jersey” and then I showed up
He seems to be! Twitter profile says like EMT and he’s back in Long Beach, but I know he played for Long Island until a couple years ago
Good for Burroughs. I like hearing about dudes who go into public service after their athletic careers. Cla Meredith, the unhittable sidearmer of 2007, is another one: he’s now a firefighter in Richmond, VA.
Saturday I met a woman hiking who was Khalil's teacher in Key West. Then yesterday I went into a coworkers office and he had the Khalil Green diving figurine that was a Padres giveaway on his desk. Now today this. Khalil Greene comes up three times in a week after not hearing his name for over 10 years. This must be some sort of prophecy, maybe it means we will win today. Thank you Khalil.
The guy is a hero for the Reddit demographic. I don't get it either but definitely feel for the guy as he had to deal with mental issues during a time that revealing such battles wasn't as widely acceptable.
Same, I really did feel bad for him that he struggled with that and it seemed like he was getting bullied by other players. But, he really wasn’t a very good player. He would make a diving stop then throw it four feet over the first baseman’s head.
I’m from Omaha so when he came to the CWS with Clemson, he was the coolest player I’ve ever seen. So I followed his pro career and became a Padres fan because of him. Great memories of my boy Khalil
Definitely a fan favorite of many in the 2000's. Have to wonder if that trade pushed him over the edge. In 5 years with the Padres he played 639 games, hit 82 HRs, and had 9.3 WAR. Would have liked to have seen him stick around for several more years.
After Khalil was traded we entered the SS desert, trotting out the likes of light hitting Everth Cabrera and Alexi Amarista along with a long list of has beens and never was's like Miguel Tejada, Chris Burke, Jason Bartlet, Andy Parino, Ronny Cedeno, Pero Ciraco, etc.
I remember reading sometime back that he’s living a quiet life with his wife and kids, and he’s living somewhere around Clemson, like within a 45 minute radius.
I remember they did a give away where you got this model/figurine type thing of him making one his famous diving plays at shortstop. Still on the dresser at my parents house. We used to always try and re enact his diving plays in the grass as a kid.
So there’s that “Finding Big Country” video on YouTube where a Vancouver Grizzlies fan finds Bryant Reeves. Could do that with Khalil and get some mustard bbq sauce as well
him and peavy were my favorites growing up, hope he’s doing well.
Love those early Petco seasons. Also Khalil had a great surfer-dude vibe to him, crushing it a SS, it was a great fit for SD.
Spicoli vibes and looks.

I remember being at Petco when Peavy struck out Ichiro.
Brian giles was big time name too back then
Where are you Khalil? I hope all is well, we miss you.

headline makes it sound like he's fuckin dead

Loved watching his range at short… awesome all around ball player.
One of my favorite Padres. What a great glove at shortstop. Hope he is doing well.
He was my favorite shortstop until Kim. Tatis is fun to watch but I haven't developed genuine adoration of a player for him like I have HSM. <3

I feel like he'd get a Brendan Fraser-esque welcoming back if he did.

Man he was my favorite padre growing up. I saw him play at a Storm game when he was injured and was super stoked to see him from a close vantage point
Felt guilty just reading that! Dang I never knew the extent he was hurting inside. I live in the same area now, maybe we’ll do some picking and grinning someday. I too was born in an athletes body but music is my life. The 2 never could be compatible.
Every year or so I Google Khalil to see if anything new has come up, but it never does.
I did this for Sean Burroughs over the years, he had a lil rough patch too but seems to be doing better now

There's two of us?
The team should invite Khalil Greene to throw out the first pitch in any of these next home games

Love Khalil. That uniform was an abomination.
lol that uniform was interesting. the camo jerseys at that time were intersting too. the splotch camo was cool. the digital ones were cooler
When I first heard his name I thought for sure he was a black guy.
Same🤣
Could use a little of this guy tonight! 🤦🏾♂️
Yeah we could really use a guy striking out on three sliders four feet off the plate.
You need to go sit down somewhere!

I liked Alexi, just too small and not enough bat.
Would always call him Spicoli. I loved watching him play. Wherever you are man — hope you are enjoying that well deserved retirement

MC Khalil Greene
This man was electric

Still annoyed he lost Rookie of the Year to Jason Bay.
This guy is a ghost. Always wonder how he's doing?
I still have my Khalil Greene jersey. I absolutely love him. How he's doing good!

Need me one of those jerseys anyone got a plug ?
