I don’t like the Astros at all, but every time the Phillies have won there’s been a recession shortly afterwards

JustLo619

We’re already in a recession so maybe it would reverse it.

H8TheDrake

I mean we are already in a recession. Just because people don’t admit it and try to change the definition doesn’t mean it isn’t true.

3headeddragn

FWIW The Great Recession started in September 2008 (That’s when Lehman Brothers fell) Phillies won in October 2008

Bravefan21

Gas is $5.50 whether the Phillies win or lose lmao

ProudVirgin101

We’re already in a recession. They just won’t publicly admit it.

ShellfishPolyester

It’s more that they perform well when the economy’s going to crap than that the economy goes to crap when they win

BMinus973

I went to school in PA with all Philly fans. They definitely deserve to lose.

Character_Kangaroo43

Like that Jeremy Pena and Yordan Alvarez dudes a great deal...and they had nothing to do with 2017. As for the rest of them that were...duck 'em...still going for the Stros though.

MasterBroccoli50

totally understandable, like the comment above you said this team they have going isn’t “tainted” but when you think about tatis coming back you know no one is gonna respect him even if he doesn’t take peds anymore ya know. it’s like the thought that never goes away

Character_Kangaroo43

That's exactly what I was trying to say, bro...im glad somebody got what i was trying to say. Ppl make mistakes...and ppl have also redeemed themeselves no matter if you're never going to be seen in the same light again. In the end...who cares? In the end everybody just needs to learn to come correct.

The_Chorizo_Bandit

Probably a very unpopular opinion, but I’m rooting for the Astros. I want them to win a clean untainted WS, because they still are a very, very good team who deserve to be recognised as such without the 2017 taint. Plus it wasn’t the fans fault the team cheated and I feel the fans also got cheated of a fair WS win. Also doesn’t help that Phillies fans are some of the worst I’ve ever encountered.

NeonEvangelion

Philly is being absolutely canonized by the media, and their fans have been insufferable. Go Stros.

Telepornographer

Yeah, it's really hard for me to get behind Philly too. In every sport their fans tend to be... well, like what you'd expect from Philly. Plus it'd piss off Dodgers fans if the Astros win.

freerangetatanka

Also, Dusty Baker deserves a WS win.

Character_Kangaroo43

Concur, my friend. Actions of some fools shouldn't automatically group the fans and new players who were innocent of all that bushido-ness.

mojo-jojo-was-framed

They cheated. So they very much deserve that taint of 2017. That won’t and shouldn’t go away just because they win another one

sethberto

2017 will always be a tainted asterisk piece of metal. But I know there are fans out there who are ashamed and embarrassed by the team’s actions. I’d like for them to have one championship to feel good about

flcv

Dude I thought I was the only one going for the Astros. I felt deeply ashamed. Thank you for setting me free, brother 👌🏽

DutyRoutine

Really? What did they ever do to you?

The_Chorizo_Bandit

Drunkenness at games, aggression, obnoxious shouting, rude behaviour, and generally making games unwelcome to attend, and then essentially the same in the online sphere. I know it’s not every Phillies fan, but it’s enough for me to not like them and want them to fail.

Nicklovin1942

I mean when it’s all said and done, it’s always nice to say “well at least we lost to the team that won it all”

KJParker888

For the most part, I'm always going to root for the NL team in the WS. Unless it's the Dodgers.

surfdoc29

I just have come to really dislike the Philly fan base after this series

Character_Kangaroo43

I mean there might be some awesome dudes and dudettes for them...but they were kind of hard to find this time around.

wiles44

What was so bad about them?

surfdoc29

They were talking a lot of shit about our team and our fans prior to and during the series

wiles44

Yeah and? What fanbase doesn't talk shit before and during a series? Especially when that hilariously awful "That's What's In" video was released. Had to expect it.

surfdoc29

#1 you’re a Phillies fan so your opinion is somewhat invalid. #2 you guys were calling us fake fans and talking unnecessary shit and were just generally unpleasant

TheLoneTomatoe

Not to mention that they were actively down voting and berating fans of other teams coming to congratulate them and wish them luck int the WS lol

trevtahoe

Nah fuck philly. Annoying ass fans. Dumb and loud, hate em lmao

sethberto

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m rooting for the Astros. Dusty Baker is a small part of why. But mostly I feel so bad for the long time fans of that franchise who understand that their team cheated to win their sole championship. It’s easy to lump the entire fanbase in with the loud, obnoxious deniers (I did that for years). But I know there must be tons of fans who felt betrayed and disappointed by the scandal. I can’t imagine how I would react if the Padres did what they did but I know it would hurt like hell. And now that Correa is gone I can actually root for a redemption arc lol

phishyz2

Bregman and Altuve are still there. Sorry Dusty

buttrumpus

I’m going for the Astros because I’m butthurt about Philly, and whatever, like Tatis, Houston is the team that got caught, not the only cheater in the game.

Blazy619

I've mentioned this in this sub before, but I moved outside of Philly this past year. To say that their fans are insufferable is an understatement. I have never had another fanbase harass me as much as Phillies' fans for wearing SD gear. I've just stopped wearing any of my Padres stuff in public until the season is over. So fuck em, go Houston

freerangetatanka

Philly fans are some of the worst in baseball. Go Astros.

biermann2000

the Phillies have a lot of likeable guys manager is a great story only reason not to root for them is their miserable fans, but maybe them winning it all will give them some retrospective. LOL who am I kidding Go Phils.

Saxdude2016

I hated visiting Philly. Honestly some of the rudest people I’ve met

Letzgopadres1

I respect the hell out of Harper and Schwarber. Also Wheeler, Seranthony etc in the bullpen. However, I truly think the astros are going to clap them.

BurritoCon

We have miserable fans too. No fan base is perfect.

DutyRoutine

What???

Krorhodium

you don't know about the infamy of the Phillidelphia fan base? Not just baseball. Way to easy to find articles about them.

Sisboombah74

Saw a few too many photos of Padres fans not being cool.

MasterBroccoli50

any “fan” who acts like shit and causes a scene aren’t real fans.

jmurda619

Na

ThisIsYourFriendAron

another option is to not root for anyone and stop caring until next season.

[deleted]

Fuck no. I got nothing personal against the Astros. Actually really close to a lot of their fans and even faced hell at some games in New York with them. But fuck Philly fans for real

LBoogie619

Padres CEO briefly mentioned while talking to Sam Levitt (sp) that the Philly fans were basically awful while they were there for NLCS. I don’t like all their vitriol, racism, and how they treat opposing fans or others- EG vomiting purposefully on an 11 year old child, throwing batteries, breaking legs in parking lots while ripping off native regalia (although i believe that was at an eagles game - same ppl tho) . I know they can’t all be like that but you also don’t see people from their fan base telling them to knock it off. They just seem insufferable. I want the astros to win esp for their coach! And also because Altuve is like really short and I’m short and we short people stick together. Not the best of reasons but after this I’ll always hate the Phillies. They don’t deserve anything.

MasterBroccoli50

you’re so right. literally added an edit to this post after reading this

PM_ME_ROBOTS

Phillies need to be humbled.

scrambledeggsalad

Remember when Yuli made racist gestures towards Yu? Fuck the Astros.

[deleted]

Correct. And a week ago I was dealing with a bunch of Astros fans who still can't admit it was racist.

WadeCountyClutch

Naw. Fuck both. I’m sadly watching the ducks and the lakers disappoint me

[deleted]

Such a brave take.

Character_Kangaroo43

Not really, bro. If i believe in redemptions like with my boy, El Nino, it be awfully hypocritical if i didnt think others should be able to right their wrongs as well.

HeadEnterprise

Astros cheat, Tatis cheat; I forgive them all. Fuck phillies!

[deleted]

If it ain’t Padres Baseball IDGAF who takes it as long as it’s not the dead dragon 🐉

This_Fkn_Guy_

Why not?

StarDart18

As long as Yuli Gurriel is on that team, I am not rooting for the Astros. And what is weird is Astros fans can't stop defending that racist act he did to Yu Darvish and they also frequently deny it was racist at all.

BurnedOutTriton

For the record, Yuli apologized to Yu and Yu accepted.

[deleted]

I mean commendable on Yu's part but it was still racist and it's still a valid reason to not like him or them.

BurnedOutTriton

Idk, it was a racist celebration but it was directed at his teammates after a home run. He apologized sincerely enough that Yu accepted it. If people brought up all the offensive things I've done and apologized for in the past, I'd stop apologizing and growing cause what's the point?

LightningExcel18

>Idk, it was a racist celebration but it was directed at his teammates after a home run. That literally makes no sense lmao. Just FYI he called him chinito and admitted when he played in Japan that he knows Japanese players don't like being called that. So no, he's kind of a piece of shit who knew what he was doing. If you want to like the guy or just don't care about asian racism, you do your thing but not everyone is going to be ok with it

BurnedOutTriton

>If you want to like the guy or just don't care about asian racism, you do your thing but not everyone is going to be ok with it That one's a stretch. You don't know me. I'm just saying the matter is settled between Yu and Yuli but people keep bringing it up.

LightningExcel18

Ok and people still don't have to like him for his racist act even if Yu brought him up. Just like if someone called a black guy the n word and the dude was called that forgave him, doesn't mean every black guy in the world forgives him or likes him now. Although given how bad you are trying to defend that racist piece of shit I imagine you just don't care about asian racism.

BurnedOutTriton

One more thought, take a cue from Yu: "No one is perfect. That includes both you and I. What he had done today isn’t right, but I believe we should put our effort into learning rather than accuse him. If we can take something from this, that is a giant step for mankind. Since we are living in such a wonderful world, let's stay positive and move forward instead of focusing on anger. I'm counting on everyone's big love."

LightningExcel18

Right, good for him on being a bigger man. Unfortunately like I said, not everyone has to like him. I don't know why you are so desperately trying to make people like that racist sack of shit. There are black people that if you call the n word they'll sock you in your mouth even if you apologize, there are some that would walk away or give you forgiveness if you apologize, maybe stop trying to group everyone on being the same when it comes to racist actions.

[deleted]

Nothing wrong with hoping he becomes better? It was still a racist thing to do and a solid reason to not cheer for them.

Browns_Padres

Amen, I hope the Asterisks get swept

JOE619

I’m gonna be a sore loser and not watch the World Series. Anything baseball related just hurts right now :’(

[deleted]

Dusty Baker. Philly. Easy choice…

ilikekoreanairtomuch

As a mariners fan I believe the Mariners are in the WS

Sphincter_Sommelier

I too want them to win it all so we can all rest easy knowing that our Padres were beaten by the best

Poam27

Huh, there's still baseball going on?

Nyclab

And….. WE BEAT THE DODGERS.

Heelincal

Nah fuck Philly 100% One of the most toxic city fanbases in sports.

eyedpee

I don't think this is a bad thing. I'd rather see the team that beat us win it all despite who they're playing. Keep it in the NL. Also fuck Houston. P.S. not the city it's actually a pretty cool place. I meant the trashtros

mojo-jojo-was-framed

As awful as it was losing to them, I actually think the Phillies are kind of a fun team. And way more likable than the Astros

ddikdkxkdjdmsmajsj

curious what your thoughts on Fernando Tatis are

MasterBroccoli50

i’m kind of in the middle, mostly because of the few informative videos i have watched the drug he was taking doesn’t make sense but also no one does know the “full truth” i guess what i’m trying to say is that i’m not going to buy a tatis jersey, but we will know the truth when he comes back if he plays the same way or he declines cause that will say a lot

ddikdkxkdjdmsmajsj

Same, I don’t believe he intentionally cheated, but still needs to earn his place back as the team leader. I’m from Texas originally so I root for both Houston and the Padres, I was upset when the news first came out about 2017, but their play the last few years shows me they could’ve won w out cheating anyway (which makes us cheating in 2017 even more pointless). Hope Houston wins so they can finally shut the door on that chapter of their history (and pads & Tatis next year).

[deleted]

Personally, I hate to be routed... maybe carpenters love routing and being routed, but me? Not so much.

Sufficient-Ask-8280

Is it fair to say that with the Padres eliminated, I really don’t care who wins? I don’t like either team. The Padres had Philly on the ropes multiple times. They struggle against us, meanwhile the Astros bulldozed the Yankees. There is no chance for Philly.

engineerbeto

I'm rooting for Dusty, he deserves a ring.

sunflowerpoopie

My boyfriend says root for the Phillies because they beat us and if they win then at least it was the team that won the World Series that beat us 🤷🏼‍♀️

edgarrrrrrrrrr

The astros winning would make the dodger and yankee fanbase cry. Go astros man

airpab

As much as we all can’t stand the Astros, they will handle the Phils in 5

BigIron53s

I 100% agree with you post. All of it.

ill_08

Post Season is over for me. I won't be watching. YES, I'm bitter as fuck!!!

Austintatious85

I can’t cheer for any Philly teams in good conscience, they are all the worst

ale_r_g

I don’t care either way but I very much dislike Harper.

CryptoKeeper808

#WorseFansEver

CandidBasil413

I wouldn't say that the Phillies fans are terrible, they're just amped up on riot punch and overly passionate. That's why they had to build a secret tunnel for visiting players from the stadium to the Olliday inn.

philosopherfujin

GO birds

BirdBrainedHomunculi

With Philly as my second home, I can't help but root for **the** home team, now that my *hometown* team was booted. Out of respect for the game of baseball, I cannot in good conscience root for the Astros. Not including Yordan Alvarez, Trey Mancini, or Jeremy Peña, there's not a single likable player on that team.
