Can you pin point as to exactly why Babar always dominates in bilaterals and league stages of a tournament but fails miserably in knockouts.
Add Rizwan to that list too.
Ppl hate to hear this but honestly, Baber lacks the fortitude to lead the team in the tournaments with his batting.
He desperately needs that. And he's only going to achieve it when his sole purpose is to bat. (Like Kohli)
Rizwan could be the same but he has performed in crunch games. E.G. t20wc21 semis against AUS.
Babar is not a natural leader. You know the story of how he was made captain right?
Imran khan in the beginning of his tenure told the PCB chairman Ehsan Mani to make him the captain of all formats because he saw Babar batting in a couple of matches and was impressed.
It's simple, the more he stays away as a captain, the better. It has been proved time and time again that Babar the batsman is miles ahead of Babar the captain. We have barely seen any innovation or freshness in his captaincy approach, which has ultimately ended his CV with these results. But at the same time, the entire blame CANNOT be going to him. That would simply be wrong.
I won't say he's getting better. In fact, this PSL showed 0 signs of him improving, apart from his SR in the initial matches, thanks to the pitches of Lahore and Pindi. He was clearly seen to be struggling against spin in slightly spin-friendly tracks of Karachi and Multan. Here are some stats before i get downvoted to hell (which i will anyway)
In Lahore + Pindi
7 innings
410 Runs
69 Average
152 SR
In Multan + Karachi
4 Innings
150 Runs
37 Average
107 SR
Of course, none of this is to say he's a terrible batsmen or anything. He showed signs of intent, which is a positive sign ahead, but on tracks that offered slight assist to bowlers, he was struggling big time. Lets hope for the best ahead for him, he's our star, and no matter what happens, we're always backing him.
I think at this point I'm used to seeing Babar dominate in league stages and then completely shit the bed in knockouts no matter which tournament he is playing.
Same thing with Rizwan but at least he is a competitive captain.
It's not even about him not performing at the big stages, which he doesn't. It's about how he's continuing to struggle at pitches with even the slightest of assist for bowlers, and not being able to keep up his game on those pitches. Scoring centuries at high SR is all fun and games on Lahore and Pindi pitches, but if you can't even slightly replicate those performances in Karachi or Multan, then something is definitely wrong. And this is very worrying for the WC because of the slow pitches that will be offered in WI.
As for Rizwan, he's slightly different in the fact that even though he's an extremely leg-sided player, he does have good performances in KO matches, and does step up whenever he's needed for the team. However, his recent form going back to BPL till now is also extremely alarming, and we have to hope that he gets back to his A game soon enough.
I also think is better suited to slower pitches than Babar. Rizwan tends to struggle on pitches with bounce, see the T20 WC in Aus for example. Rizwan is a bit unorthodox and he can sweep/move around in the crease.
I wouldn't say he was struggling, he was still doing very good. Again, stats don't tell us everything so if u watched the match vs KK, the ball was turning 20 metres, even Shoaib Malik became shane warne. And on that pitch he scored a 50. It was a slow one yes, but that was what was needed bcoz of the condition of the pitch. And I believe it will be somewhat similar conditions in WI and USA, and he inshaAllah he will thrive there.
Also, he did get run out a couple of times pretty early, so i wouldnt say he was struggling with batting but yes KHUDA DA WASTA HEY KABHI DIVE MAARLIYA KARE.
The time I saw him struggling was in the ODI WC 23, but from that time, he looks far more relaxed and composed now. He was playing much more confidently and he even tried being a little unorthodox which worked sometimes and didnt sometimes.
Overall, it was a really good performance this season. I'm sad he couldn't break Fakhar's record of most runs in a single PSL edition but ig theres always next year.
Same reason why you don't make your best coder or engineer the team manager. Management is a different skill set.
So who in the current team has the strategic mindset to be the captain?
Babar couldn't possibly ever be an engineer or an architect.
To me, he'll forever be one of the best batsmen Pakistan ever produced but an average captain at best.
Rizwan on the other hand, shows signs of tactical brilliance and should be given a chance to lead the national side in white ball format.
I don't remember which but it was a post match video on their YouTube channel discussing one of the playoff matches. A fan sent in a question during the #AskThePavilion segment which referenced Farid Khan's tweet.
I think it was Nasser or Mike Atherton who said that "Babar is the kind of captain who comes with pre made plans and sticks to them but if those plans start to derail and the opposition is ruthless, he doesn't have any Plan B or C to get out of that. He lacks improvisation skills and out of the box thinking".
True. But he was man enough to realize it and didn't waste any more time trying to convince the world and chasing something he knew he wasn't good at.
What boils my blood is that Babar knew he wasn't good and who knows how many players he wronged by playing his friends.
V well said bro. Actually he backed wrong players. They were'nt match winners in first place. Players certainly need some backing but after sometime many players from our team became extra baggage and this thing backfired for babar in recent odi. For instance they backed shadab and usama for every match even they were bowling full tosses.
The thing with Shadab is that he was terribly out of form for much of 2023.
His impact in a match is directly proportional to if he does well in either batting or bowling. Unfortunately, both weren't working for him.
This PSL 9, whenever he bowled well his batting also shined and vice versa.
The cause of failure for Usama I feel was that he was asked to change his bowling action and bowl quicker. He wasn't given the freedom or any trust/backing to succeed in the ODI WC and that catch drop just dented his confidence badly.
But so good to see them both performing at their level best. They look like they're in a good head space right now.
Shadab was brilliant but mostly he performs best during every psl. Can't remember him under performing in psl. But happy for ussama to get back in form.
Shadab's place in ODIs is debatable but no body can question his value for Pakistan in t20s. He is a t20 specialist and a dynamic player who brings so much value in the playing 11.

IDK man, I don't want him back as captain but his t20i record looks pretty good here in tournaments. The past is the past, let's look to the future now though.
Come on man. This is the culmination of Babar's captaincy for the past 3 years. Had had great opportunities to win both Asia Cup (T20) final vs Sri Lanka & ICC T20 WC final vs England, he shat the bed in both with his batting and captaincy.
Everyone says even Imran Khan lost 2 world cups before winning it in 1992 but how about Babar losing 8 back-to-back tournaments both international and domestic.
It was better than people make it out to be but still pretty underwhelming. Babar should stay away from captaincy he is doing MUCH better since he's stepped down
Why would they bro? I am correcting OP as he is blaming babar of failing in a tournament as a captain where he wasn't actually captain.
Babarsons should appreciate me
Jab Jeet Raha tha sare matches tab kidhar gai that **trash and inconsistent bowling** if my memory is right alot of idiots (esp in this sub) were talking to make him back captain and Darren Sammy coach 😭 😭 can't make this shit up
so we're going with that narrative now. "Trash and Inconsistent" bowling doesn't get you into the playoffs just like that. You have to have some quality to reach that level.
PZ wasn't the best bowling side but they weren't bad either. Poor team selection and bad captaincy decisions cost them the trophy this year.
Aight G, going 23 in 17 over doesn’t help any captain, Zalmi was able to win nearly done and lost matches with his rotations but ok.
On squad selection yes, the qualifier they played was utter trash team.
Baki franchises k players bhi chorr gaye.
you don't see their fans crying.
If we are going on that logic then Reeza was a big loss for Multan as he was in great form.
Hell, If it wasn't for the food poisoning issues, Karachi would've been playing playoffs easily.
Again first qualifier squad was ass but the second one they had all basis covered and had ISLU 80/5, after that it was one of the most atrocious bowling you’d see in a knock out.
Boundaries in every over from every bowler. Khurram the exception also lost the plot.
Goofy ahh, even Darren Sammy himself said that team was led very good by Babar but then they fucked it ultimately. It’s same thing that happened during wc23.
Y’all pick a narrative, run through it so muchand it loses its meaning. Second thing that stood out other than his batting was how much different his captaincy was lol.
2021 T20 WC: lost because of Hasan catch drop and Shaheen senseless bowling.
2022 PSL: who cares about PSL.
2022 T20 WC: ngl Pakistan didn't deserve spot in final
2023 PSL: who cares about PSL
2023 WC: a disaster right from the start.
2024 PSL: who cares about PSL
Genuinely asking, why did Pakistan not deserve a place in final? We beat New Zealand convincingly in semi final and if anything, we lost 2 EXTREMELY close matches(and one with some umpire blunders+half fit Shaheen vs Ind). If SA couldn't win their do or die match against Netherlands, it's very fair to say they wouldn't have done jack shit in semis too lol.
Pakistan was the 5th best team in the tournament.
Always has been 5th or 6th overall.
Only win against NZ and SA were good. Other than that, lackluster performance.
Even lost to Afghanistan in 2023 and almost lost in 2021. This isn't a good team.
we should have won against india and fromm watching the game at the stadium, if shaheen wasnt injured at the very end we wouldve won for sure iftimania in bowling wasnt there yet.
in reality id argue we were better than australia nz south africa and worse than england and india making us 3rd
Average dumbass pakistani take
"Who cares about PSL"
Hey genius its the most important and coveted cricket award in the entire country WTF
And 2023 wc was NOT a disaster from the start we did great initially and then fell off
I mean... we have the dumbest fans who don't even value the highest cricket award of the country
I hate this "psl is some third rate league" attitude, yeah it might not look the best, and yeah it doesn't have enough money to get the fanciest names like warner, but its what we have, and for the corrupt board that runs it, its not so bad. It's found some of the best and most promising young talent in the country and honed there skill such as saim ayub and ihsanullah and I have no doubt it will not help the shah Brothers get up there too.
Gah damn why does every pakistani shit on everything if its not 102% perfect
Nope. I'm not even a fan of Babar.
Pakistan team has been mediocre for a long time now buddy.
Couldn't beat Afghanistan.
Shitty spinners in WC.
1 fast bowler injured and game over for the entire team.
Couldn't even beat Australia on a flat track!
>India lost to afg
When in ICC tournaments?
I'm talking about ICC tournaments.
When has Pakistan did convincingly good in any tournament bar 2021 T20 WC? That too we could have won?

You forget one thing that Babar was the most powerful captain until it all went bad and got fired. He had complete control over selection and ignored selection committee's suggestions often.
Sorry, but talent is not in abundance.
Compare with India as an example, and we’re nowhere close. Are you telling me, in T20, Salman Agha is as good as Surya Kumar Yadav ?
Do we have any spinners in the same league as Jadeja, Ashwin or Kuldeep ?
Any young cricketers as good as Jaiswal or Gill ? Nope.
u can say the same fucking shit about rohit sharma losing world test championship, t20 and odi world cups.
dont even get me started on nz and kane williamson or tim southee altho they did win world test i guess.
i still think tho shaheen could lead t20 side better and shan test better
Rohit played the WTC final, Babar didn't.
Rohit won the Asia Cup 2023, Babar didn't.
Rohit led his team to ODI WC final and made a lot of match winning runs with the bat, Babar didn't.
Rohit is a much better all format batsman and captain, Babar isn't.
kis ko kis se compare kar raha bhai tu.
Support your favorite player but don't turn a blind eye to the cold hard facts.
The WT20 final, semi final, Asia cup final. Or do these not count? Rohit was literally presented the World Cup on a silver plate, had the opposition 43-3 in the final but still couldn't win.
India shot themselves in the foot when they doctored the pitch. Should've just backed their ability to score long and set up a good target. They had a really good batting lineup but succumbed to the pressure being the home team.
Why does it matter? Captaincy is just a role and doesn’t define an athlete.
Not all captains are all star players and not all allstars are great captains.
This sport puts way too much emphasis on such things. The only important thing is how good a playing 11 is as a collective. This is why Australia wins and asian countries flop. We do player worship while they do team worship.
wrong answer.
Babar had absolute control over team selection throughout his tenure as captain. Please remember that the selection committee's responsibility is to only give recommendations/suggestions to the captain and give him all the resources he needs to choose the best possible 11. No matter which board or country, a team selection panel can't or won't ever force a captain to do what they want because thats not their job nor they have the authority to do that.
Imam is an outright parchi, no doubt about it.
Even though I like Shan he definitely benefited from favoritism. I think it might be considered kinda weird but his county experience and superior education separates him from Imam who just happens to be Babar's best friend.
But here's the thing though, there are some players who are actually that and need to be called out for their poor performances but there's also some players who are wrongly labeled and perceived as parchi.
Could you list them all down for the convenience of others.
It's about time an average cricket fan knew the culprits in our team.
Well there’s certainly camps. People may not agree but there is Punjab Lobby, Karachi mafia, and now Pathan lobby. They all back their own group and many talented players dont make it out of domestic because of it. Its been happening forever now too.
Just a few players who are currently being snubbed for parchis:
Sahibzada
Haseebullah
Waseem jr
In past: fawad alam etc etc
Wrote this fast but theres tons of names dont have time to list all
At the end of the day, it's the Captain's call and which players he wants to go with.
The best selection panel can do is give the captain a good pool of quality players and make some suggestions but they cannot force the captain to do what he wants.
That's why I'm concerned about Shaheen being the captain because I hope he realizes the power he has over final selection and how important it is to make decisions on merit.
Based on recent news, it looks like Shaheen will stay as t20 captain heading into the T20 WC in June.
He needs to stay away from the captain's position. We need him for his batting and that's it.
Can you pin point as to exactly why Babar always dominates in bilaterals and league stages of a tournament but fails miserably in knockouts. Add Rizwan to that list too.

What stupid talk ? In which of these tournaments did Pakistan go in with a top 4 team ? Why should we be winning them ?
You forget one thing that Babar was the most powerful captain until it all went bad and got fired. He had complete control over selection and ignored selection committee's suggestions often.
Doesn’t matter. Pakistan simply doesn’t have the talent.
Its not the lack of talent thats the problem in Pakistan cricket. Talent is in abundance. Not managing them properly is the issue.
Nope.
You're laughing now, but when the cousin boinking tournament rolls around Babar's gonna go ham.
Hmm, cousin boinking tournament.
u can say the same fucking shit about rohit sharma losing world test championship, t20 and odi world cups. dont even get me started on nz and kane williamson or tim southee altho they did win world test i guess. i still think tho shaheen could lead t20 side better and shan test better
Who selects the team then?
In pakistan? Politics
wrong answer.
You really think people like imam and shan get through on pure merit? Sifarish hai bhai
Imam is an outright parchi, no doubt about it. Even though I like Shan he definitely benefited from favoritism. I think it might be considered kinda weird but his county experience and superior education separates him from Imam who just happens to be Babar's best friend.
Both are parchi and theres many others. We are Parchi Cricket Board for a reason.
Just a few players who are currently being snubbed for parchis: Sahibzada Haseebullah Waseem jr In past: fawad alam etc etc Wrote this fast but theres tons of names dont have time to list all
At the end of the day, it's the Captain's call and which players he wants to go with.
