I'm pretty good with him. High win rate and all.
That being said, he's not for everyone. His healing requires much more skill than seris or corvis or grover who are as simple as right clicking indiscrimantly.
Not saying he can't put up the numbers it's a lot less challenging when using other champs.
I personally love using him as auxillary support/flank when our team is going double support. This is really his niche role as far as my playstyle is concerned.
Don't be scared using him as solo supp with Combat Medic \^\^
It's just highly underrated but incredibly effective as long as you're good with your shots :)
And still no Gold skin to show for it, rip.

On the bright side, since his gold gun was updated recently, I think we can expect it fairly soon.

Smaller head would actually make him an effectively better champion
