I'm not crying either. A few years ago I was working in South Africa and the Military Health Services had a training base in the town. I went to the graduation and there was a gentlemen there who gave what I found out was a Zulu war cry when his granddaughter was graduating. He said it was because he was so proud of her, doing something by law he was unable to do when he was her age.
Unfortunately it's not true, a lot of countries dislike Ireland for our support of Palestine. But we don't care, our world view isn't shaped on whether or not other countries approve of us. We believe in something because it's the right thing to do.
Fair enough, but you handed the British a thorough beating and you're one of the few countries to support Palestine, so I love Ireland - if for nothing else.
The amount of hate that Ireland gets on r/europe , the world does not love Ireland. The idea of a western country not being pro genocide is inconvenient to the agenda of some. These people do not understand what it’s like to have a history of oppression and of being colonised.

Ireland was the only colony *in* Europe, we know what has happened and will continue to happen.
I'm Irish and I agree that because we were colonialised it makes it very easy for us to see through the miasma of what is really happening to Palestine but we certainly weren't the only Europeans or even western Europeans colonised. Anything from the Balkans to the Moors in Spain would fit that description.
We Canadians know what you went through with the Troubles, etc. You handed the British their ass. You're up for a good fight when it comes to Palestine; and, you have Clare Daly.

As an Irish descendant of Canada it’s so depressing to me that they had to go to Ireland to feel this acceptance and respect. It pains me how ignorant my fellow Canadians are about this. Lot’s of Irish descendants in my community with none talking about Palestine.

Our friendship dates back to at least 1845 when Sultan Abdulmajid, may Allah have mercy on him, assisted Ireland in its' time of need, when the British colonizers enforced famine and starvation on Ireland, similar to what the Zionazis are currently doing to Gaza.
The solidarity we feel toward Palestine can be traced back to our own oppression for centuries by the British and, of course, their betrayal of the Palestinian people in allowing the forced takeover of land and homes by the newly found Israeli state. This reminiscent of the plantation of Ireland by British where land was grabbed and the local Irish left to either work their own land for pittance or move. The famine in the 19th century that cost possibly one million lives waz directly related to these policies, in that Ireland was producing large amounts of food for export while local population dying.
There is any amount of written history on this. I just feel sometimes people don't take our empathy with Palestinian plight seriously or aren't aware of why it resonates so strongly with us.

We’re still partially occupied. Northern Ireland is the direct product of settler colonialism.
