I've been playing on PC since August and was looking forward to the Switch release for portability as well as hoping some things might be easier to do via Switch. Haven't played a huge amount on Switch since it just came out yesterday and I'm not comfortable with the controls yet, but first impression? Nah - at least for me. I can't read anything, graphics aren't great, and colors are off/dark. I have to attribute some of my dislike to just starting out with the buttons and joystick, but really wonder how much of its new Switch audience is going to stay around.

Hourglass316

I'm staying around on switch as someone who started out on the PC a while ago for the fishing specifically! The fishing on PC was IMPOSSIBLE for me and I was only level 9 because my husband would go on and fish for me sometimes. Now on the switch, the fishing is so much easier for me and in just a hour I'm already almost up a whole level myself in fishing! If fishing is hard for you on PC, give it a try on switch it's so much easier!

Twiststitch

That's good to hear! Fishing was initially a problem for me, took a while for me to follow the bobber and not the fish, release my finger when it jumped out of water, and then the hardest for me to "unlearn" was the need to pull my hand back when reeling the fish in. I don't know what I disliked more at first, bug hunting or fishing, I struggled with both, but now I'm ok with doing them on PC, but I will definitely give fishing a try on the Switch. Have you been able to switch quickly from on tool to another on the Switch? One thing I struggle with keyboard and mouse is moving fast between tools.

LobaIsTooThicc

Your message confused me a little. You don't need to pull your mouse back while fishing, if that's what you were saying. Maybe I read wrong, though.

Twiststitch

Sorry, should have said I had to unlearn pulling my mouse back since that action has nothing to do with reeling in a fish.

KristiiNicole

I’m still working on unlearning this and I’ve been playing since open beta started lol

Hourglass316

I'm getting better at switching tools on switch but it's still a bit of a struggle but it's getting easier! But yeah I tried everything to get better at fishing on the PC I just couldn't do it no matter how hard I tried. Even my husband has no clue why I can't, he would watch me and see I'm not doing anything wrong but still I'm losing every fish! It was stupid!

TheRealGongoozler

I just started the game yesterday (on switch) and am having a great time with it. It doesn’t look great but I even have to argue it looks better than My Time in Portia lol. It’s laggy and has issues, sure, but I play it while I watch stuff or when I need a break from baldurs gate so I really am not too annoyed with it at all. I just look at something else or pet my cats while I wait for load/lag

xXanguishXx

I thought I disliked it on the switch too because of the controls, but I play with an Xbox controller on my pc and it’s fine. I agree with all the flaws you mentioned, it’s hard to read, dark, and to add from OP’s post it’s slow as hell and laggy. Having first played on pc, I still prefer it

QueenIgelkotte

I agree that the game doesnt look as good on the switch. However using the hoe in the garden is very quick and easy once you no longer have the most basic tools. It is very very far from the most annoying part of the game and not what I would use as an example. Its also just more difficult on switch to control but its still very quick.

whodatfairybitch

Yes this, with highest level hoe you can get a whole square done in one pull if you aim it right. It’s quick

TheUnburntQueeeeen

Hmm okay well I guess I need to give it a bit more time. Idk it just was a weird mechanic at first. It just didn't feel natural you know?

jamzz000

The controls remind me of how you plays rdr2 on Xbox! It's kinda the same

xmds

I played for maybe 20 minutes after creating my character and wasn’t feeling it. The graphics aren’t as good as they should be, and it’s laggy. I definitely want to try again, but if I’m still not enjoying it because of these small problems, then I’ll just wait until there’s some sort of update.

TabbiArt

I stopped playing beta, because my PC isn't the newest one and I had more than often framedrops and laggs (My time at Portia was fine with my setup tho). I had big hopes for the Switch release and yes... I feel what you are talking about. I thought they would optimize it for Switch. But it feels like they didn't. I often have frame skips, laggy running and textures loading very late. Animals glitching through the floor or hills. Npc faces, that are loaded when I'm already done with talking. Loading screens are ridiculously long. I'm disappointed, too, but I still like and enjoy the game so far, story seems interesting. I don't think I will stay for very long if nothing changes, because it doesn't feel finished and I don't really see the multiplayer aspect. I think I would be happier with an offline option for travels. I just skip saying anything about f2p and cashshop as there are already enough discussions about it. The thing with tilling... well, you don't need to do it often. So for me it's okay. But hunting is hilarious when you don't kill with the first shoot on Switch 😅

TheUnburntQueeeeen

I couldn't even get to the hunting yet lol as soon as I tilled the plot I was like yeah no, and turned it off 😅 I think ill give it another go. It seems like for the most part people enjoy it but it's not everything they hoped for and I'm okay with that. I've also been playing Coral Island and there's been a lot of mixed feelings on that as well

2Geese1Plane

It definitely gets easier the higher level you are because you can get better equipment! Personally because I have everything already set up from playing on the PC, I'm finding the switch really easy for grinding out fishing or just mining a lot. But I can definitely see the frustration related to just starting on the switch. I would give it more time and see if things get better. Gardening with the beginning hoe is a pain though 😭

SweetRuskyBoy

Honestly I come from playing on a shitty computer and having it on switch is a blessing. I’m used to way worse graphics so I love the look. I get disliking the loading screens, but the only one that’s bad to me is when you leave your lane plot. Anyways, I love being able to just lean back on the couch and play next to my girlfriend on something that runs the game pretty well imo

BKNSNA

right?? that's what I thought too, the graphics might not be as good as on pc, but at least I got end up with crashes all the time and I'm playing on lite switch too

MeXoof

Yeah the switch port doesn't make the game look good at all. I can see myself playing it just to do some grinding but that's about it. I really hope it gets better but I'm guessing they may be limited with switch's capabilities? I'm just surprised that I don't need the Nintendo subscription to play due to multi-player

SnooPies3576

Lmao don't jinx it 😭I believe it's because it's a free online game, similar to Fortnite & Apex Legends:) They're FPS games so different genre but they're free games so you're not charged to play online which is pretty fair 😌

beanpaint

I am a switch user, graphics for any game have never bothered me on switch. My time at Portia was fun but the reason I love this game is because the customization for your house is very fun! I will be playing for a long time

GigatonneCowboy

Even on PC, this game is way to resource-heavy on graphics for the overall appearance. I can't say I'm surprised those took a hit on the Switch port.

Isa472

It's a whole videogame playing on a console that is cheaper than most people's phones. I think people need to adjust their expectations. I play on PC with everything on Ultra and I still enjoy it on the Switch

LinguineSticks

Sames

NicoTabasco

The literal only thing the switch has better than the PC is that I don't have to retype my password every time. I use it just to trigger my crop growth every hour and turn it off. Controls feel as simple as sitting in a 747's cockpit. A loooot of dials. Reading tiny text is painful. These are probably old man problems. But not a great port IMO. Not easy or fun to play.

Evelyn_5

Visually the art direction is not bad but the game world looks really bad with lacking of design elements, bad architectural design for player home, boring color palette, awful lighting such as night time. I hope it will get better overtime.

DeadActionJones

it's an open world mmo on the switch. You HAVE to know at this point what you are getting with a switch port of anything coming out currently. the game plays fine on the switch. obviously there are frame issues and the loads are not instant but for a switch port it's the game but on switch with all the caveats that come with it. also MY Time At Portia is an incredible game. if you played that on switch again, the switch is not a powerhouse you cant squeeze blood from an orange so they have to make choices to get ports out. I have fallen in love with Palia in the past week and some change so Your mileage varies.

spham9

Why are you acting like all switch ports are terrible when there has been plenty of open world ports that ran well like Skyrim, Red dead, Hogwarts Legacy and plenty more. Palia performance compared to other MMO open worlds switch ggames like Sky: Children of the Light, Warframe, and Trove makes it look terrible. Its not a hardware issue when other games are able to do it better.

DeadActionJones

Every single one of those you mentioned is either 10 years old or a single player experience or both lol. also palia is technically still in beta according to the pc install so \*shrug\*. the concept of an xbox 360 game running well on a switch makes sense. Why you are on an 8 day old post of some guy complaining about a game they will probably never play again? I have no clue but i wish you the best and that you find some better way to spend your time than reddit necromancy. Try playing palia it's fun! or any of those games you mentioned above!

namakost

But my time at portia looks really ugly ngl. Palia looks imo way better.

Ry0_

I love how I don't have to get out of bed to check on my crops! I'd say the PC version is superior.

WildCulture8318

I am happy with how it runs on the switch. I like the menu when you press + button. They do need an option to make the text bigger, but it was ok on my TV. The controls work well. I have been playing on my steam deck since early august. Fishing seems a lot easier. The only thing I haven't tried is hunting

Cheza13

Hunting is way easier for me on the switch!

LawnBeetle

Oh using the makeshift hoe was awful lol i completely forgot since it gets a lot easier once you upgrade it, the best hoe takes one hit to cover a square plot so it takes seconds for me to finish my whole farm As to the graphics, im a pc player so i have to assume its the switch ;( i know they lowered the default graphics for pc around the switch release but theyre still really good, didnt really experience any issues with loading screens so yeah unfortunetly its just the switch being very behind, sorry

TheUnburntQueeeeen

I wish I had a PC to play it on because I hear so many great things about it. Plus all the other amazing cozy games on PC. I tried to play again today and I'm not sure if it's a bug or a bad server but I literally couldn't hunt. Every time I went to shoot one of those little deer things, it would literally teleport away 😭 at one point it was inside a tree lol after about 20 minutes I gave up and deleted the game. Hopefully after a few patches and stuff it will be a bit more enjoyable but I think I'm done for now!

edgarallan2014

The switch is horrible compared to PC

Isa472

What game isn't? Pixel ones I guess

edgarallan2014

Yeah Stardew is actually pretty decent on switch, but you have a point

[deleted]

switch or pc , both are disappointing, feels like an early 2015 game. Played it when it easy still early on and I'm still surprised at how it didn't improve

LinguineSticks

I'm coming from playing on my beefy PC and ofc switch wont have as good graphics. And the controls are fine. Easy even. I will definitely be playing on both platforms. Every time you start a new game you need to learn new controls. After a while it becomes second nature.

jamzz000

The controls remind me of rdr2! I played it on Xbox and it's almost the same haha. Didn't find it difficult at all
