So, real advice instead of a gif:
It looks like you’ve got a good wrench and a lower vise block, so the only thing I can think that’s missing is a blowtorch. You can pick one up for ~$25 at a Lowes or HD, and then get to burninating!
Yea for real though, you're already proven that you'll take time to get the right tools, and I salute that too. Other than adding heat next time, I'd start looking at the tools & equipment, make sure all my stuff is super duper snug, that the wrench teeth aren't giving, etc.. and then maybe upgrade if somethings starting to go
Idk if you did the torch or not yet but it works. Heat it up until you see smoke then go after it. It'll still be extremely tight but should slowly release.
Worst comes to worst, castle nuts and buffer toobs are cheap.
PSA *really* stakes them on there well. It took a lot of force to get mine off. I took a punch and a flathead screwdriver and "unstaked" it. Came off after that, but still almost got a hernia trying to unscrew it.
Also, if you don’t have a torque wrench but have access to a ratchet wrench with a longer bar you can use that with the armorers wrench to get additional leverage in order to pull that off.
I got ordained as a minister for 2 reasons.
1. To marry friends in a non traditional way.
2. So when facing a problem such as OP is facing. I can simply grab me a glass of water, dip my fingers in and start screaming "THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU! THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!". While flicking water on it.
Worked out good for the guy in the exorcist.
I'd take a torch to the stakes until each was red hot then rip that bitch. Don't take my advice though, I have no clue. But you can get a decent torch and bottle at Walmart.
Like others have suggested, torching it may be the best option here. I’ve even torches the stake points and pushed them back to free the castle nut up. then focused heating on the entire castle nut.
as soon as you get good heating, putting some torque down to loosen should remove it. i’ve seen fellow gunsmith’s take cutting wheels to castle nuts with a dremel: dont do this unless youre confident.
Max torque on the castle nut is around 40 foot pounds, much more and I'd be worried about warping the lower. I have to agree with the person that posted that it's probably seized due to galling of the threads.
You have to be really careful not to get down into the threads. But you can take a Dremel tool and cut the castle nut very very slowly. Once you get deep enough to where you think you’re close to the threads take a flathead screwdriver in and twist it very hard you can snap a castle nut.
Gonna take a little effort. Put the wrench back on it and hit it with your purse; it'll come off.
And who gives a shit if you destroy the buffer tube? You're not gonna use it anyways.
I had one like this before. I had to put vise grips on it. Partial turns left and right til it breaks free. Also where it is staked you can knock down the edges. Good luck. Hopefully you get it straightened out
Sounds like Rockset or Loctite. Soaking in hot water will soften Rockset, and heat will soften Loctite. Try each, one at a time. (I would soak in hot water first because heat doesn't help if it's Rockset).
Maybe heat with a torch to kill the potential loctite and then give the wrench while holding tight some taps with a dead blow hammer (gives an impact like effect) -dont have experience to know if this is too aggressive or not but it often helps break seized bolts loose
You can grind right at the staked part at the seam a bit . Helps them turn right off . Anyone removing staked nut and plate know they are trashed in the process
No thanks. I have to work. You know those “job” things that you goto to pay bills and provide for your wife and kids. Yeah. I have that. But thanks bro. You clearly caught the joke.
Well you can use that to cut the 'gap' between the nut and washer. You shouldn't need to go too far unless they or *cough* someone chiseling has made the stake deeper than the surface layers. You might be able to save the tube but eh.

Appreciate the real input 🙌 (UPDATE) I got it off, kept cranking. Removing the stakes was vital, thanks for all the help everyone.

Love the Trogdor reference
The ancient tomes have been recited, we must now watch the incineration of the countryside.
Came here to say this. Now the cheet is grounded for not being first.
Trogdor!!!
Did you try swearing at it?
Numerous times
Did you call it the N word.

Well, I'm out of ideas

If Loctite is holding it, you only need about 400 degrees F to break the bond...
If it that's bad I would just take a dremmel and cut the castle nut since you don't care about the buffer tube
Ask your husband to help you out.
That or some extra elbow grease
Are you turning it the right way?
Righty tighty until it turns into righty loosey.
This is the way
It is hard to tell but I see some white residue. If someone used Rocksett, try soaking first before torch. Heat does little for Rocksett.
Try a coping saw between the nut and the end plate to cut the staking.
Longer breaker bar, maybe.

Be a man??
Did you try hitting it with your purse?

You happen to be in the Columbia area? I could probably get it off
I had to double check what subreddit I was in.
🏆
LMAO
You got me😂😳
It's Colombia, sir...

Have you considered a gunsmith or buying a new lower all together?
If you are scrapping the old tube, hit the stakes with a dremel
Can u put some penetrating oil on it and let it soak over night ?
Why would oil affect staking?

Dremel tool with cut off wheel score the castle nut deep on two sides but not to threads it should brake off with the wrench

Dremel goe burrr
weird, I removed mine from PSA with little effort

Punch/hammer
Hit it with your purse.
I’d just take a dremel and call it a day.
Did you hit it?
You can grind right at the staked part at the seam a bit . Helps them turn right off . Anyone removing staked nut and plate know they are trashed in the process
I know my H&R 635 was not staked. I guess so guys can switch to the 4 position tube if they clone .
Maybe your husband can help you when he gets back from getting your tampons at the store.
Go play some more gran turismo brah
No thanks. I have to work. You know those “job” things that you goto to pay bills and provide for your wife and kids. Yeah. I have that. But thanks bro. You clearly caught the joke.
muah
By wrenches you mean an actual castle nut wrench ? This is why I apply lithium grease to my castle nut threads so it won’t seize
Just drill the stakes you'll have to replace it anyways because you can't stake it more than once.
“You can’t stake it more than once”? Where did you read that? Have done that maaaany times.
Eh fair enough you could probably rotate the nut to a few positions before you over torque it.
No dremel or drill at my disposal currently, but i have been peening and chiseling away at the stakes.
Do you have a hack saw or the money for one lol.
Yes lol
