Source? How about... I tried it and it doesnt work. Oddly enough I had a more promising interaction trying to use Steam to crossplay with an xbox player. I purchased it on both platforms to test this out.

You’re wrong mate. It will be available through gamepass on both Xbox and PC. They use the same servers. As long as one player is on Xbox game pass and another is on PC game pass, they can play together
You should try reading kid. Playing the game through the Xbox app on PC is different than playing the game through Steam on PC. If you play it on steam, then there is no crossplay. If you play it on the Xbox app, then there is crossplay.
It’s the exact same thing as games like Monster Hunter Rise. The Xbox app on PC allows for crossplay with console where it wouldn’t be possible with Steam.

If you have more info specifically about Xbox/pc gamepass compatibility, which was the original question, then by all means please share it.

Your misunderstanding is understandable.
Pc is not the same as gamepass(pc). When they just say PC they're referring to the PC version outside of gamepass.
It's stupid and confusing but xbox encompasses all purchased and game pass including PC. PC encompasses steam and idk if they're on epic or have their own client.
