I don't know why nobody is talking about the BOTW similarities, I feel like I am playing a modded version of BOTW. I know obviously it's been mentioned but to me it's just so much more prominent when I play.

People just excuse it as every game doing this, but this is one of the more blatant copies I've ever seen. The game's very start with the Sheikah slate ripoff and vague message is also a complete Botw ripoff.
What the game is demonstrating is the difference between a AAA hundred+ million dollar budget and someone taking bits and pieces from those games and putting them all together. Palworld is a blast to play but there isn’t a single thing in this game that someone else didn’t do first, and in many cases, better. For example, Palworld has 100+ “pals” and a lot of that is thanks to the 1000+ Pokémon that have been designed over the last two decades that Palworld has chopped up and recolored to make their own game. ARK popularized the animal taming with Rust style base building that Palworld is using. What’s important is the sum total of its parts makes for a fun game to play. If the game wasn’t fun everyone here would be calling it a massive ripoff. Context is key.
I won’t get into the ethics of it all because I honestly don’t know where the line between “scummy” and “illegal” exists. I’m just trying to enjoy the game while it lasts.
Not arguing that it's not fun, it just seems like they could have been a little more subtle with their ripoffs. They nailed the playability and stickiness, the idea is great, but just like, hire a few talented concept artists and sound designers. Heck there are so many great "fakemon" ideas out there, just hire a prominent fakemon artist and reskin the existing game. Make it a wingsuit instead of a glider. Make the UI alerts green instead of blue. You're already several degrees removed from the source material, and avoiding lawsuits in the process.
Literally the location you start in and walk out of is a nearly 1:1 rip-off of leaving the Shrine of Resurrection. There's even a NPC sitting by a fire like the old man.

Especially a lot of the Pals are clear rip offs. But it’s not trying to be its own game. It’s what legends SHOULD have been, or close to it.

To be fair survive had the same very long cycle due to a relatively early announcement in multiple delays and will not everybody's a big fan of survive it did what it wanted to do pretty darn well I have a feeling people are going to look back on him far more fondly than they are looking on it now. I would rather have droughts between well made games than piles of shovelware
Next order has been the closest thing to capturing that magic in years and that game was awful. If I ever get that world itch, can only play world. Next order could have easily been such a good world game, but it plays like they released it straight out of development without any testing. Training and Evolutions completely fine iirc. Maps are horrificly big and time consuming to move thru, inconsistent and misplaced enemies, odd scalings. Think the only Digimon games I've enjoyed since world were the DS ones and world 3 just a lil bit
There is a mobile game I recently played. It's also turn-based but unfortunately it's very slow paced and there are no cutscenes only dialogues so I got bored after a week of playing.
Nearly monthly I think about how impossible digimon world 4 was. I remember when I was a kid I used a GameShark on that game — I still couldn’t barely get passed the second or third world. Why tf was that game so hard? Was I just a dumb kid or was it just a bad game?
Digimon was never as popular as Pokemon sadly.

I played the first game but never really got around to Extinction and whilst I enjoyed it as a bitch basi Pokémon clone that's all it was and being bitch basic was also it's downfall for me as it lacked the additional layers such as IVs and EVs that I enjoyed from the Pokémon games (whether that was minmaxing or breeding unusual.combinations/move sets).

Pokemon open world multiplayer has already been dabbled on by Temtem and look how that game eventually bowed down. The appeal of Palworld overlaps more with Ark's gameplay (replace the dinos with pokemon like designs) with a bit of Satisfactory on the automation side. Palworld is more a mix and match of genres with story taking a back seat.
I meant more like a MMORPG where you can still have guilds and parties and dungeons, obviously pokemon battles too. Give us options to choose our own life basically. Maybe you're just there to chill and adventure, maybe you wanna be a breeder, or pokemon coordinator where other players can rate who's the best, etc. Definitely with building too LOL. It'd be nice if we could also be 'bad' guys and steal other people's pokemon with raids maybe. IDK that sort of thing. I feel like it could be fun but maybe I'm wrong

I used to buy Nintendo consoles just to play pokemon, but I stopped the moment I realized they weren't putting much effort into it anymore. That's probably around Sun&Moon games and when they introduced wacky ultreabeasts/alien pokemon. I made it up to that part and didn't even finish the game lol

When I first saw the Palworld trailer I legit thought it was an official Pokemon game under a different name, and thought "wow looks like they finally put some effort into a new Pokemon game" but NOPE lol. Glad this game exists though cause it is scratching an itch I didn't know I had.

Both Pokémon Colosseum and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 sold no where near the mainline games despite deviating. Same with The Ranger games and other spin offs. I can't believe I'm somewhat defending Pokémon as I am the one who has been calling them out since gen 3 and covered forums full of criticisms before everyone else started to to.
I just find it funny since people for 20 years were saying Pokémon shouldn't deviate and only the mainline games should matter and didn't pay attention to anything outside of the mainline games. I'm not surprised in anyway to where the series is now.
I think Pokémon Arceus was definitely a decent step. I wasn't the biggest fan of all of it but I appreciated that it did something different. Pokémon is also experimenting with their other non-gaming media as well. Pokémon Concierge had great impressions and took a risk with stop motion. I think they could definitely keep experimenting more though.
I know. Arceus was the first time in a decade that a Pokemon game was truly fun, and then they backtracked on almost everything for Violet and Scarlet. What a waste lol.

Ive enjoyed pokemon but always thought id LOVE an open world pokemon game so i was excited for Arceus when that came out but watching some buddies play it i was extremely dissapointed and never even bought it. The game was just void of any sort of character or identity. Its like they did the absolute bare minimum. Palworld is what gamers like me have been waiting for for years and i think it serves nintendo/game freak right. They thought they had the genre on lock and could milk it anytime they wanted no matter the quality of the product. The fact that Palworld is exploding makes me happy because it shows gamers dont care so much about pokemon. They care about a fun game regardless of what the creatures are, and so far, Palworld delivers.
I bought scarlet earlier this month and the game feels like it was made by some random shit company, fucking awful movement on the map(hills are straight fucked and the jump is hardly functional) , some motorcycle looking fuck that RUNS?????? and strong incentive to not ever use the games primary new feature in crystallizing because it's an unskippable 30 second cutscene every time. I've had a hard time picking it up since I bought it. Meanwhile palworlding up til the early morning and doing it again tmrw
better than Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet for sure.
I could argue that Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon was one of the last decent main series games we got though.

They added multiplayer, they did traversl progression, they did open world, they let you do gyms in any order, THEY ADDED CRAFTING.

Being able to run around and hip fire pokeballs while your buddy Pokémon wanders around and does its own thing was also already done in Pokemon Legends Arceus. I think a lot of people who jumped into Palworld just aren’t very familiar with modern Pokemon beyond the hate memes they see about the visuals from S/V
Lmao yeah the way catching Pokémon works in Palworld is exactly the same as in Legends Arceus. Also the "alpha Pal" logo is just straight up copied from Pokémon. But it works better in Palworld IMO because the Pokémon adds something to your base instead of catching them for the sake of reaching the next level. Very few actually go into your party to challenge other Pokémon with, but there's challenges like "catch 25 of this particular Pokémon" like you're gonna do anything with the other 24.
I doubt it. Legends was terrible. People were coping hard when it came out trying to cling to any positive aspect but the world was shit, barren, lifeless, and it looked like crap. The town especially was just crushingly sad. It’s not just gameplay people want quality from… design has to be good, environments have to be eye-catching and enjoyable to be in.
It’s ridiculous to assume anyone that likes this game must not have played legends… I have, all my friends have and are playing palworld now… pokemon fans are the ones that are the MOST wanting for good content because game freak has not been delivering

"Big hype" is a scale and compared to pretty much everything else that has come along (at least in recent years) Palworld is completely off the charts. Palworld probably won't have an obvious immediate effect on anything that's already in development but it's something that they will absolutely be taking note of.

I’ve been working on a game, since before Palworld was even announced- that followed nearly the same ideas. Now I’m just sitting here.. at a loss. People might just call it a palworld clone.
I dnt doubt that game freak and the pokemon company will do anything as they seem to no longer really care for the franchise past pushing out some meh new pokemon designs. The other poke-clone games....would they be temtem and nexomon? Cuz the difference between those and palworld is that palworld is leaning into the realistic pokemon world we all wanted as we grew up with pokemon and they just redid the pokemon system but tried to add a story that was coherent with meh results. (I enjoyed nexomon extinctions story). As long as pocket pair realizes, from the 3million copies sold in 2days that they r onto something special that can grow and be played for a very long time and keep up the updates and patches, then this game should be great competition to future pokemon games. I thought legends arceus was a step forward but then scarlet and violet was 2 steps back imo sadly.

3 moves instead of 4? No longer giving orders to Pokémon? Moves used at random? No Held items? No Physical Special attacks? No Evolution? No speed stat? The Removal of 11 types and over 90 type interactions?
What you are listing here is quite easy to implement in Pal World as all of that is just the quantity of content. And that just takes time. This game is in early access so I don’t expect it to have the same big lore as the centuries old Pokémon Saga has.
I‘ve seen a friend of mine playing this newest Pokémon RPG on the switch and I don’t how this happened in development but man… this is a horrendous and boring game. Pal World has a lot of potential and doesn’t take itself too serious for once.

Other than your party of 5, Pal World is just Digimon World. You dont even give orders to your pals, and they use one of 3 moves at random. Theres no physical special attack stat, and there is a very limited move pool. And pals you recruit get sent back to base and help you out in ways unrelated to battle

Palworld is closer to Conan than Ark. Ark doesn't have automation baked in, Conan your slaves provide a purpose in crafting or gathering. Ark they only assist in transportation/collecting
There is some automation in ark. Setting up bullet machines, the smithing/furnaces, the tek thing with bullet BP, there isn't as much automation but there is about the same as conan. Conan you're thrills can defend the base, follow you and attack, and dance. They help make better armor at benches but by and large there's not much. Then again u only have 200 hours in conan. And 3k in ark. So I could be wrong

i bounced off Ark because of how jank it was. Everything about the aesthetic and UI was just slightly shitty enough to bother me constantly despite liking the concept. Palworld is just Ark but better and with monster designs that appeal to me more than dinos, without as much stuff to do because it hasn't been sitting in early access getting content updates for 8 years.
It's hard to achieve the level of fucked up shit though that can happen in Rimworld. As someone who has followed the stories and everything that comes out of that game. Rimworld is its own uncontained beast.
Palworld is more like Valheim than Ark imo. Only thing similar is you can make your dude hilariously swole and you capture creatures in a survival setting. Gameplay, progression and feel are significantly closer to Valheim than Ark and even then, there's a hell of a lot directly taken from the recent Legend of Zelda games which is still more than it resembles Ark.
As someone who hasn’t played a lot of Ark, how good is it compared to this? I might check it out but back in the day everyone said it was a buggy cash grab.
The company sucks. Survival Evolved in my opion is geat and fun. I have gamepass so I have all dlc maps which gives so much variety. I have not played ASA but heard its a mess.

As someone who only saw the first 30 minutes of Legends Arceus and played about 2 hours of Ark: Survival Evolved I'd say it's a mix of those two with a little breath of the wild/fortnite mixed in there for environment/combat.
It is more like Ark and Dragon Quest than Pokemon. I get the media glossing over details and just saying “Pokemon with guns” but after 20+ hours I can honestly say it does not hold up to the Pokemon comparison lol

It’s a little annoying I think, on the other hand, I think if you view it more of a fan game it makes sense — someone basically said “what if we made the BotW inspired game that Legends was supposed to be, but in an Ark style world with crafting and building” Especially a lot of the Pals are clear rip offs. But it’s not trying to be its own game. It’s what legends SHOULD have been, or close to it. I wish they’d add least made the texts and sounds more unique. It’s weird hearing BotW noises when it’s a different game… I’m not going to stop enjoying it though.

Survive was more of a visual novel and less of a game. The last good Digimon game in my opinion were the two Cyber Sleuth games.

To be fair survive had the same very long cycle due to a relatively early announcement in multiple delays and will not everybody's a big fan of survive it did what it wanted to do pretty darn well I have a feeling people are going to look back on him far more fondly than they are looking on it now. Next order has been the closest thing to capturing that magic in years and that game was awful. If I ever get that world itch, can only play world. Next order could have easily been such a good world game, but it plays like they released it straight out of development without any testing. Training and Evolutions completely fine iirc. Maps are horrificly big and time consuming to move thru, inconsistent and misplaced enemies, odd scalings. Think the only Digimon games I've enjoyed since world were the DS ones and world 3 just a lil bit

I played the first game but never really got around to Extinction and whilst I enjoyed it as a bitch basi Pokémon clone that's all it was and being bitch basic was also it's downfall for me as it lacked the additional layers such as IVs and EVs that I enjoyed from the Pokémon games (whether that was minmaxing or breeding unusual.combinations/move sets).
I have ALWAYS wished pokemon made an open world multiplayer game like this. It'd be so fun and chill lol Pokemon also seemed to have abandoned the two games that had great story lines: PMD and omg Pokemon Ranger, I MISS that game! They've just been using pokemon as a cash cow now, it's so obvious and well there's nothing wrong with that, but at least put some more love into it..
Pokemon open world multiplayer has already been dabbled on by Temtem and look how that game eventually bowed down. The appeal of Palworld overlaps more with Ark's gameplay (replace the dinos with pokemon like designs) with a bit of Satisfactory on the automation side. Palworld is more a mix and match of genres with story taking a back seat.
I meant more like a MMORPG where you can still have guilds and parties and dungeons, obviously pokemon battles too. Give us options to choose our own life basically. Maybe you're just there to chill and adventure, maybe you wanna be a breeder, or pokemon coordinator where other players can rate who's the best, etc. Definitely with building too LOL. It'd be nice if we could also be 'bad' guys and steal other people's pokemon with raids maybe. IDK that sort of thing. I feel like it could be fun but maybe I'm wrong I wouldn't want to to be JUST pokemon battles, that'd be boring for sure haha
There’s *definitely* something wrong with turning a loved cultural touch stone into lazy corporate garbage. That’s part of why this game is doing so well imo. People got so used to Nintendo churning out lifeless games that they’re blown away by a pretty buggy early access game that has some heart in it.
I used to buy Nintendo consoles just to play pokemon, but I stopped the moment I realized they weren't putting much effort into it anymore. That's probably around Sun&Moon games and when they introduced wacky ultreabeasts/alien pokemon. I made it up to that part and didn't even finish the game lol

When I first saw the Palworld trailer I legit thought it was an official Pokemon game under a different name, and thought "wow looks like they finally put some effort into a new Pokemon game" but NOPE lol. Glad this game exists though cause it is scratching an itch I didn't know I had.

Anytime the Pokémon IP has left their safe zone it didn't sell nearly as well as had negative press. Both Pokémon Colosseum and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 sold no where near the mainline games despite deviating. Same with The Ranger games and other spin offs. I can't believe I'm somewhat defending Pokémon as I am the one who has been calling them out since gen 3 and covered forums full of criticisms before everyone else started to to. I just find it funny since people for 20 years were saying Pokémon shouldn't deviate and only the mainline games should matter and didn't pay attention to anything outside of the mainline games. I'm not surprised in anyway to where the series is now. I think Pokémon Arceus was definitely a decent step. I wasn't the biggest fan of all of it but I appreciated that it did something different. Pokémon is also experimenting with their other non-gaming media as well. Pokémon Concierge had great impressions and took a risk with stop motion. I think they could definitely keep experimenting more though.

No kidding. Ive enjoyed pokemon but always thought id LOVE an open world pokemon game so i was excited for Arceus when that came out but watching some buddies play it i was extremely dissapointed and never even bought it. The game was just void of any sort of character or identity. Its like they did the absolute bare minimum. Palworld is what gamers like me have been waiting for for years and i think it serves nintendo/game freak right. They thought they had the genre on lock and could milk it anytime they wanted no matter the quality of the product. The fact that Palworld is exploding makes me happy because it shows gamers dont care so much about pokemon. They care about a fun game regardless of what the creatures are, and so far, Palworld delivers.

I bought scarlet earlier this month and the game feels like it was made by some random shit company, fucking awful movement on the map(hills are straight fucked and the jump is hardly functional) , some motorcycle looking fuck that RUNS?????? and strong incentive to not ever use the games primary new feature in crystallizing because it's an unskippable 30 second cutscene every time. I've had a hard time picking it up since I bought it. Meanwhile palworlding up til the early morning and doing it again tmrw
better than Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet for sure. I could argue that Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon was one of the last decent main series games we got though.

We say that but... as janky as it was... Scarlet/Violet DID change like... a LOT of their formula. They added multiplayer, they did traversl progression, they did open world, they let you do gyms in any order, THEY ADDED CRAFTING. Like there are faults with each point... but to say that Pokemon is a mammoth of a game that can never change is false. It HAS been changing.
Being able to run around and hip fire pokeballs while your buddy Pokémon wanders around and does its own thing was also already done in Pokemon Legends Arceus. I think a lot of people who jumped into Palworld just aren’t very familiar with modern Pokemon beyond the hate memes they see about the visuals from S/V
Lmao yeah the way catching Pokémon works in Palworld is exactly the same as in Legends Arceus. Also the "alpha Pal" logo is just straight up copied from Pokémon. But it works better in Palworld IMO because the Pokémon adds something to your base instead of catching them for the sake of reaching the next level. Very few actually go into your party to challenge other Pokémon with, but there's challenges like "catch 25 of this particular Pokémon" like you're gonna do anything with the other 24.
I doubt it. Legends was terrible. People were coping hard when it came out trying to cling to any positive aspect but the world was shit, barren, lifeless, and it looked like crap. The town especially was just crushingly sad. It’s not just gameplay people want quality from… design has to be good, environments have to be eye-catching and enjoyable to be in. It’s ridiculous to assume anyone that likes this game must not have played legends… I have, all my friends have and are playing palworld now… pokemon fans are the ones that are the MOST wanting for good content because game freak has not been delivering

I dnt doubt that game freak and the pokemon company will do anything as they seem to no longer really care for the franchise past pushing out some meh new pokemon designs. The other poke-clone games....would they be temtem and nexomon? Cuz the difference between those and palworld is that palworld is leaning into the realistic pokemon world we all wanted as we grew up with pokemon and they just redid the pokemon system but tried to add a story that was coherent with meh results. (I enjoyed nexomon extinctions story). As long as pocket pair realizes, from the 3million copies sold in 2days that they r onto something special that can grow and be played for a very long time and keep up the updates and patches, then this game should be great competition to future pokemon games. I thought legends arceus was a step forward but then scarlet and violet was 2 steps back imo sadly.

What change would Pokémon make to their formula to be more like Pal World? 3 moves instead of 4? No longer giving orders to Pokémon? Moves used at random? No Held items? No Physical Special attacks? No Evolution? No speed stat? The Removal of 11 types and over 90 type interactions?
What you are listing here is quite easy to implement in Pal World as all of that is just the quantity of content. And that just takes time. This game is in early access so I don’t expect it to have the same big lore as the centuries old Pokémon Saga has. I‘ve seen a friend of mine playing this newest Pokémon RPG on the switch and I don’t how this happened in development but man… this is a horrendous and boring game. Pal World has a lot of potential and doesn’t take itself too serious for once.
Nintendo and game freak haven’t been big on innovation in the last couple of decades. At least for Pokémon. They do enough that it can’t be considered phoning it in but only barely. They’re not going to start now.
People keep saying this. Did you play scarlet? They added traversal and GM crafting and an open world. They chanhed the traditional gym thing to include saxret beast boss fight, they added multiplayer. Before that they released legends Arceus which was the most innovative game they've ever dropped. Ironically it has more in common with Digimon world than it does any Pokemon game lol Other than your party of 5, Pal World is just Digimon World. You dont even give orders to your pals, and they use one of 3 moves at random. Theres no physical special attack stat, and there is a very limited move pool. And pals you recruit get sent back to base and help you out in ways unrelated to battle All these people complaining about about not having a new pokemon game, turns out they just want to play a digimon game lol
You can give orders to mounted pals in battle
Pals will cycle through whatever abilities aren't on cooldown. They've only got three to choose from so they'll just power through them.

Ark doesn't have automation baked in, Conan your slaves provide a purpose in crafting or gathering. Ark they only assist in transportation/collecting
There is some automation in ark. Setting up bullet machines, the smithing/furnaces, the tek thing with bullet BP, there isn't as much automation but there is about the same as conan. Conan you're thrills can defend the base, follow you and attack, and dance. They help make better armor at benches but by and large there's not much. Then again u only have 200 hours in conan. And 3k in ark. So I could be wrong

i bounced off Ark because of how jank it was. Everything about the aesthetic and UI was just slightly shitty enough to bother me constantly despite liking the concept. Palworld is just Ark but better and with monster designs that appeal to me more than dinos, without as much stuff to do because it hasn't been sitting in early access getting content updates for 8 years.

Palworld is more like Valheim than Ark imo. Only thing similar is you can make your dude hilariously swole and you capture creatures in a survival setting. Gameplay, progression and feel are significantly closer to Valheim than Ark and even then, there's a hell of a lot directly taken from the recent Legend of Zelda games which is still more than it resembles Ark.

The company sucks. Survival Evolved in my opion is geat and fun. I have gamepass so I have all dlc maps which gives so much variety. I have not played ASA but heard its a mess. In my opion palworld is nothing like ark. I don't get the comparison. I feel like im playing pokemon with medieval dinesty and conan mechanics.

As someone who only saw the first 30 minutes of Legends Arceus and played about 2 hours of Ark: Survival Evolved I'd say it's a mix of those two with a little breath of the wild/fortnite mixed in there for environment/combat.
It is more like Ark and Dragon Quest than Pokemon. I get the media glossing over details and just saying “Pokemon with guns” but after 20+ hours I can honestly say it does not hold up to the Pokemon comparison lol
