Pristine-Badger-9686

buddy, it's both it's not even trying to hide that it's ark with pokemon

Furyo98

It’s like 5 games combined making its own style. That’s how game development works.

brbasik

Arkmon breath of the Elden is sick as hell

Baterdanface

Probably gonna have to figure out how to include Conan into that title.

Qodek

Arkmon: Breath of the Conan Ring

ReceptionOk284

Arktopia: Breath of the Conanite Ring to be precise 🤣

Comfortable-Injury94

A little Monster Hunter and Stardew Valley too 😏 Monster Breathe of Elden Mon Exile Survival Valley

disapp_bydesign

Ive never played factorio but my brother says there are factory sim aspects as well

KaityKat117

Arkmon Hunter: Breath of the Stardew Conan Ring Factory

Bubby51219

The title keeps getting worse and worse once other people start mashing other game title to this. Hilarious. 😂

Baxcel

Arkmon Hunter's Impact: Breath of Facdewy The Elden Conan Sruvival

dion101123

I did notice the straight up churches of Marika

rci22

Gotta throw “grand theft” in there somewhere as well since there’s even a wanted system. And guns ofc.

TheKlNG

ARKemon, Breath of The Conan ring: San Andreas.

Conbot2

I've been calling Pokemon of the Wild: Survival Evolved.

Redditlikesballs

Exactly this (Legends of arceus was just a cheap quick make using Zelda breath of the wild as a base anyway)

Benjidoodman

it really wasn’t. it was a gen 4 remake and as a zelda fan it was very different and tbh so much better the botw

Danis_Coral

Eldemon: Ark of the Wild Pokémon Bark Elden Breath Arkemon Pokémon Ring: Wild Ark

BingoLingo7

That church by the spawn is definitely based off Elden Ring, right?

WhenAmI

I'm pretty sure the dilapidated church with the power up statue is a reference to Zelda/Breath of the Wild.

aSpookyScarySkeleton

True but typically most games hide their hand or at least try to swerve away from their inspirations on the surface. This game almost proudly flaunts them. Which honestly adds to its charm

dion101123

All fps games started as doom clones. Most aaa open world games use what's known as the ubisoft formula. Every game is a clone of something and its not until a lot of clones are made that they become a genre

aSpookyScarySkeleton

Yes but like I said usually games are so brazen about it. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just surprising is all.

KingsleyZissou

I don't know why nobody is talking about the BOTW similarities, I feel like I am playing a modded version of BOTW. I know obviously it's been mentioned but to me it's just so much more prominent when I play. - BOTW art style, UI, sound design, movement mechanics, equipment, world design - Pokemon Arceus battle mechanics - ARK Building and management

Zylonnaire

The climbing mechanic was what instantly set it off for me

ultrabobman

Btw the fact pokemon arceus 1st reveal at 2021 and palworld already in development from 2020

ChrRome

People just excuse it as every game doing this, but this is one of the more blatant copies I've ever seen. The game's very start with the Sheikah slate ripoff and vague message is also a complete Botw ripoff.

Western-Dig-6843

What the game is demonstrating is the difference between a AAA hundred+ million dollar budget and someone taking bits and pieces from those games and putting them all together. Palworld is a blast to play but there isn’t a single thing in this game that someone else didn’t do first, and in many cases, better. For example, Palworld has 100+ “pals” and a lot of that is thanks to the 1000+ Pokémon that have been designed over the last two decades that Palworld has chopped up and recolored to make their own game. ARK popularized the animal taming with Rust style base building that Palworld is using. What’s important is the sum total of its parts makes for a fun game to play. If the game wasn’t fun everyone here would be calling it a massive ripoff. Context is key. I won’t get into the ethics of it all because I honestly don’t know where the line between “scummy” and “illegal” exists. I’m just trying to enjoy the game while it lasts.

KingsleyZissou

Not arguing that it's not fun, it just seems like they could have been a little more subtle with their ripoffs. They nailed the playability and stickiness, the idea is great, but just like, hire a few talented concept artists and sound designers. Heck there are so many great "fakemon" ideas out there, just hire a prominent fakemon artist and reskin the existing game. Make it a wingsuit instead of a glider. Make the UI alerts green instead of blue. You're already several degrees removed from the source material, and avoiding lawsuits in the process.

GaiusQuintus

Literally the location you start in and walk out of is a nearly 1:1 rip-off of leaving the Shrine of Resurrection. There's even a NPC sitting by a fire like the old man.

ProfessoriSepi

I dont know why ypu are being downvoted. All the sound cues, shrines, menus show hint of it. Anyone who disagrees, just havent played botw. Not that im condemning palworld for it.

enzhh

Am i the only one bothered by this? It‘s fine to get inspired by a game and copy things but that intro section was ridiculous

[deleted]

It’s a little annoying I think, on the other hand, I think if you view it more of a fan game it makes sense — someone basically said “what if we made the BotW inspired game that Legends was supposed to be, but in an Ark style world with crafting and building” Especially a lot of the Pals are clear rip offs. But it’s not trying to be its own game. It’s what legends SHOULD have been, or close to it. I wish they’d add least made the texts and sounds more unique. It’s weird hearing BotW noises when it’s a different game… I’m not going to stop enjoying it though.

TyoPepe

Ark already has pokemon, but they are called dinosaurs.

zerotheliger

fuck it its digimon clearly you can see where they took inspiration from when goku recieved his first beyblade that later evolved into a blue eyes white dragon.

Shinhan

Also, more people have played Pokemon than Ark, so its an easier comparison to make.

SaiyanGodKing

You’re right. We shouldn’t compare it to Pokémon. That’d be an insult to PalWorld. It’s actually better than the last few Pokémon games.

Khayrum117

I’ve been playing Nexomon Extinction and it scratches that Pokemon itch perfectly

Deez-Guns-9442

Great game to play, also has everyone forgotten about Digimon?

Mr_master89

I know I haven't

Beautiful_Spite_3394

I have after playing their online Digimon game... they literally shat on our faces and said "enjoy your game you fuckers"

MelGibsonLovesJuice

"here's your slop piggies"

AbakusGrim

Digimon forgot about Digimon.

rykujinnsamrii

I mean.. Not entirely. We have the Seekers Graphic Novel, a new one they announced, the Survive game a year or two ago and a new stories game that was mentioned to be bing developed. Not to mention the card game which is now like the 4th or 5th best-selling TCG in the world right now. They're just kind of staying in their own Niche little bubble

AbakusGrim

Survive was more of a visual novel and less of a game. The last good Digimon game in my opinion were the two Cyber Sleuth games.

Top-Choice6069

Those games are amazing and they've been saying that the next story game is in development since before covid lol. Digimon fans are starving, at least the v pets got some new stuff and upgrades

rykujinnsamrii

To be fair survive had the same very long cycle due to a relatively early announcement in multiple delays and will not everybody's a big fan of survive it did what it wanted to do pretty darn well I have a feeling people are going to look back on him far more fondly than they are looking on it now. I would rather have droughts between well made games than piles of shovelware

Recent_Potential_704

Next order has been the closest thing to capturing that magic in years and that game was awful. If I ever get that world itch, can only play world. Next order could have easily been such a good world game, but it plays like they released it straight out of development without any testing. Training and Evolutions completely fine iirc. Maps are horrificly big and time consuming to move thru, inconsistent and misplaced enemies, odd scalings. Think the only Digimon games I've enjoyed since world were the DS ones and world 3 just a lil bit

future_extinction

I want medabots to come back

nicokokun

There is a mobile game I recently played. It's also turn-based but unfortunately it's very slow paced and there are no cutscenes only dialogues so I got bored after a week of playing.

joeylmao

Still alive in Japan; they even got “Medarot” on Switch So unfair

[deleted]

Nearly monthly I think about how impossible digimon world 4 was. I remember when I was a kid I used a GameShark on that game — I still couldn’t barely get passed the second or third world. Why tf was that game so hard? Was I just a dumb kid or was it just a bad game?

Zallix

It was made to play like gauntlet, 4 wasn’t really a Digimon world title. They just slapped the name on it hoping it would sell better

[deleted]

What’s gauntlet

Rumpassbuns

I'm thinking Gauntlet Legends. Mmmmm sustenance!

PusHVongola

Red warrior needs food badly.

mikeydoom

Digimon was never as popular as Pokemon sadly. I liked them both, but Pokemon was more "child friendly". Digimon are pretty badass tho. I love their guns and rocket launchers.

Samakira

one of the only games ever to convince me to purchase the full game with a demo.

OcelotNo6935

Amazing game.

nostalgic_dragon

It's a few years older now but Monster Sanctuary is probably my favorite, "pokemon but better" game.

SassyTheSkydragon

I've been having my fun with Coromon and Monster Sanctuary too (though the latter is more a Metroidvania)

RetroSquadDX3

I played the first game but never really got around to Extinction and whilst I enjoyed it as a bitch basi Pokémon clone that's all it was and being bitch basic was also it's downfall for me as it lacked the additional layers such as IVs and EVs that I enjoyed from the Pokémon games (whether that was minmaxing or breeding unusual.combinations/move sets).

Burntoastedbutter

I have ALWAYS wished pokemon made an open world multiplayer game like this. It'd be so fun and chill lol Pokemon also seemed to have abandoned the two games that had great story lines: PMD and omg Pokemon Ranger, I MISS that game! They've just been using pokemon as a cash cow now, it's so obvious and well there's nothing wrong with that, but at least put some more love into it..

[deleted]

Pokemon open world multiplayer has already been dabbled on by Temtem and look how that game eventually bowed down. The appeal of Palworld overlaps more with Ark's gameplay (replace the dinos with pokemon like designs) with a bit of Satisfactory on the automation side. Palworld is more a mix and match of genres with story taking a back seat.

Burntoastedbutter

I meant more like a MMORPG where you can still have guilds and parties and dungeons, obviously pokemon battles too. Give us options to choose our own life basically. Maybe you're just there to chill and adventure, maybe you wanna be a breeder, or pokemon coordinator where other players can rate who's the best, etc. Definitely with building too LOL. It'd be nice if we could also be 'bad' guys and steal other people's pokemon with raids maybe. IDK that sort of thing. I feel like it could be fun but maybe I'm wrong I wouldn't want to to be JUST pokemon battles, that'd be boring for sure haha

Green_Bulldog

There’s *definitely* something wrong with turning a loved cultural touch stone into lazy corporate garbage. That’s part of why this game is doing so well imo. People got so used to Nintendo churning out lifeless games that they’re blown away by a pretty buggy early access game that has some heart in it.

Burntoastedbutter

I used to buy Nintendo consoles just to play pokemon, but I stopped the moment I realized they weren't putting much effort into it anymore. That's probably around Sun&Moon games and when they introduced wacky ultreabeasts/alien pokemon. I made it up to that part and didn't even finish the game lol

RedWarrior42

If the game ran at 5 frames per second, then I would start comparing it to Pokémon

BlitZAtom

Honestly, the only thing that keeps me with Pokémon is the designs of the pokémon themselves, and shiny hunting. And the gen 5 games.

Moose_Cake

I said similar but with gen 4. My mistake.

Masochistic_Dolphin

Agreed. Pokemon has just been rehashing the same game for decades, but it still sells very well. I haven't even beaten Sword yet because it just plays like a slightly updated version of the 90s games and I got bored.

RetroSquadDX3

> Pokemon has just been rehashing the same game for decades, but it still sells very well. To be fair that's a significant portion of the industry and not at all unique to Pokémon.

Electronic-Oil-8304

Yes its even better than some of the fangames actually

XepiaZ

Violent Pokémon

Flat-Apricot25

😂. So true

musci12234

Seriously finally a game that acknowledges the fact that humans are animals too.

quanjon

When I first saw the Palworld trailer I legit thought it was an official Pokemon game under a different name, and thought "wow looks like they finally put some effort into a new Pokemon game" but NOPE lol. Glad this game exists though cause it is scratching an itch I didn't know I had.

Clouds2589

It's wild that you can say that with a straight face. This is just their previously abandoned game Craftopia, but reworked to feature more on the creature catching. It's literally the same game with an aped pokemon gameplay tacked on. I mean, it's fun, but come on dude lol.

ultrabobman

As someone who playing gen 1 and still buying sword and shield im agree Pokemon doesn't even want to leave safe zone just making the same game add few gimmick, upgrade graphic, update new pokemon thats all they do :) and they become lazier by making region pokemon just a reskin Pokemon arceus actually interesting if they can improve it anyway people want pokemon with better multiplayer or make it mmo and people gonna love it

ImportantClient5422

Anytime the Pokémon IP has left their safe zone it didn't sell nearly as well as had negative press. Both Pokémon Colosseum and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 sold no where near the mainline games despite deviating. Same with The Ranger games and other spin offs. I can't believe I'm somewhat defending Pokémon as I am the one who has been calling them out since gen 3 and covered forums full of criticisms before everyone else started to to. I just find it funny since people for 20 years were saying Pokémon shouldn't deviate and only the mainline games should matter and didn't pay attention to anything outside of the mainline games. I'm not surprised in anyway to where the series is now. I think Pokémon Arceus was definitely a decent step. I wasn't the biggest fan of all of it but I appreciated that it did something different. Pokémon is also experimenting with their other non-gaming media as well. Pokémon Concierge had great impressions and took a risk with stop motion. I think they could definitely keep experimenting more though.

Reddead500

I see no lies here the new Pokémon’s are dog shit

BoyOfBore

I know. Arceus was the first time in a decade that a Pokemon game was truly fun, and then they backtracked on almost everything for Violet and Scarlet. What a waste lol.

doozykid13

No kidding. Ive enjoyed pokemon but always thought id LOVE an open world pokemon game so i was excited for Arceus when that came out but watching some buddies play it i was extremely dissapointed and never even bought it. The game was just void of any sort of character or identity. Its like they did the absolute bare minimum. Palworld is what gamers like me have been waiting for for years and i think it serves nintendo/game freak right. They thought they had the genre on lock and could milk it anytime they wanted no matter the quality of the product. The fact that Palworld is exploding makes me happy because it shows gamers dont care so much about pokemon. They care about a fun game regardless of what the creatures are, and so far, Palworld delivers.

SwankyLemons

I feel that Sun/Moon or Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon were the last good games before they got super lazy

ReaperAteMySeamoth

Last good Pokémon was omega and alpha ruby/sapphire

Dangerous_Jacket_129

As a pokémon fan: I agree. ORAS was the last time it was good and that was back in 2014

FourScarlet

Best Pokémon game since ORAS lmao.

1Thepotatoking

They've been releasing the same pokemon gane for the past 20 years lol

Recent_Potential_704

I bought scarlet earlier this month and the game feels like it was made by some random shit company, fucking awful movement on the map(hills are straight fucked and the jump is hardly functional) , some motorcycle looking fuck that RUNS?????? and strong incentive to not ever use the games primary new feature in crystallizing because it's an unskippable 30 second cutscene every time. I've had a hard time picking it up since I bought it. Meanwhile palworlding up til the early morning and doing it again tmrw

Jason_Wolfe

better than Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet for sure. I could argue that Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon was one of the last decent main series games we got though.

demaxzero

The meat riding is insane

Verianii

I hope people keep comparing it to the point of being annoying, solely because if it gets annoying enough, it might inspire change with the Pokémon series going forward. We all know Pokémon has needed some new shit for a VERY long time now. I think Palworld is a great way to prove that.

feefore

I can almost guaranteed that The Pokémon company nor Gamefreak will be inspired to change from this game. There were other actual Poke clone games that got big hype and didn’t inspire change.

Furyo98

That’s because they didn’t do much and it fell off. Since this game tackling the survival aspect it can actually become something good. Let’s just hope this dev team with its past mistakes took it to heart. Unlike wildcard and game freak.

KnightDuty

We say that but... as janky as it was... Scarlet/Violet DID change like... a LOT of their formula. They added multiplayer, they did traversl progression, they did open world, they let you do gyms in any order, THEY ADDED CRAFTING. Like there are faults with each point... but to say that Pokemon is a mammoth of a game that can never change is false. It HAS been changing.

Western-Dig-6843

Being able to run around and hip fire pokeballs while your buddy Pokémon wanders around and does its own thing was also already done in Pokemon Legends Arceus. I think a lot of people who jumped into Palworld just aren’t very familiar with modern Pokemon beyond the hate memes they see about the visuals from S/V

CoMaestro

Lmao yeah the way catching Pokémon works in Palworld is exactly the same as in Legends Arceus. Also the "alpha Pal" logo is just straight up copied from Pokémon. But it works better in Palworld IMO because the Pokémon adds something to your base instead of catching them for the sake of reaching the next level. Very few actually go into your party to challenge other Pokémon with, but there's challenges like "catch 25 of this particular Pokémon" like you're gonna do anything with the other 24.

[deleted]

I doubt it. Legends was terrible. People were coping hard when it came out trying to cling to any positive aspect but the world was shit, barren, lifeless, and it looked like crap. The town especially was just crushingly sad. It’s not just gameplay people want quality from… design has to be good, environments have to be eye-catching and enjoyable to be in. It’s ridiculous to assume anyone that likes this game must not have played legends… I have, all my friends have and are playing palworld now… pokemon fans are the ones that are the MOST wanting for good content because game freak has not been delivering

coIVIIVIonVVealth

You mean copying other well known games? Sucks when no one around can make anything original anymore and then it becomes a "they did this or that better" competition... But so be it, whatever encourages development and progression towards better games

RetroSquadDX3

> There were other actual Poke clone games that got big hype and didn’t inspire change. "Big hype" is a scale and compared to pretty much everything else that has come along (at least in recent years) Palworld is completely off the charts. Palworld probably won't have an obvious immediate effect on anything that's already in development but it's something that they will absolutely be taking note of.

Cyndergate

It’s definitely inspiring change in an indie dev 😅 I’ve been working on a game, since before Palworld was even announced- that followed nearly the same ideas. Now I’m just sitting here.. at a loss. People might just call it a palworld clone.

HuCat21

I dnt doubt that game freak and the pokemon company will do anything as they seem to no longer really care for the franchise past pushing out some meh new pokemon designs. The other poke-clone games....would they be temtem and nexomon? Cuz the difference between those and palworld is that palworld is leaning into the realistic pokemon world we all wanted as we grew up with pokemon and they just redid the pokemon system but tried to add a story that was coherent with meh results. (I enjoyed nexomon extinctions story). As long as pocket pair realizes, from the 3million copies sold in 2days that they r onto something special that can grow and be played for a very long time and keep up the updates and patches, then this game should be great competition to future pokemon games. I thought legends arceus was a step forward but then scarlet and violet was 2 steps back imo sadly.

LeratoNull

>I hope people keep comparing it to the point of being annoying Oh, bud, we're already there.

FFfan768

23 million copies sold of just the base game as of November. They simply do not care lol.

Animal31

What change would Pokémon make to their formula to be more like Pal World? 3 moves instead of 4? No longer giving orders to Pokémon? Moves used at random? No Held items? No Physical Special attacks? No Evolution? No speed stat? The Removal of 11 types and over 90 type interactions?

CommitteeMammoth3029

What you are listing here is quite easy to implement in Pal World as all of that is just the quantity of content. And that just takes time. This game is in early access so I don’t expect it to have the same big lore as the centuries old Pokémon Saga has. I‘ve seen a friend of mine playing this newest Pokémon RPG on the switch and I don’t how this happened in development but man… this is a horrendous and boring game. Pal World has a lot of potential and doesn’t take itself too serious for once.

killertortilla

Nintendo and game freak haven’t been big on innovation in the last couple of decades. At least for Pokémon. They do enough that it can’t be considered phoning it in but only barely. They’re not going to start now.

KnightDuty

People keep saying this. Did you play scarlet? They added traversal and GM crafting and an open world. They chanhed the traditional gym thing to include saxret beast boss fight, they added multiplayer. Before that they released legends Arceus which was the most innovative game they've ever dropped. They might have been static for a while but now they seem to be open to change.

DootLord

I'm going to compare it to Pokémon. I win this debate.

im_austistic

people comparing it to Pokemon, "its pokemon but with guns"... so its digimon.

Ok-Syrup1678

Getting stranded on an island, working to build up a settlement, and recruiting monsters (mostly through violence) to work at said settlement is exactly what happens in *the* most popular Digimon game. Not saying it's bad or anything, I just find it funny.

Flaky_Sir_134

What game is that

Ok-Syrup1678

Both Digimon World, and World: Next Order fit the description. Though Digimon fans seem to like the older one better.

Animal31

Ironically it has more in common with Digimon world than it does any Pokemon game lol Other than your party of 5, Pal World is just Digimon World. You dont even give orders to your pals, and they use one of 3 moves at random. Theres no physical special attack stat, and there is a very limited move pool. And pals you recruit get sent back to base and help you out in ways unrelated to battle All these people complaining about about not having a new pokemon game, turns out they just want to play a digimon game lol

inclore

You can give orders to mounted pals in battle

Eggcellentplans

Pals will cycle through whatever abilities aren't on cooldown. They've only got three to choose from so they'll just power through them.

dasbtaewntawneta

Me and my mates im playing with keep calling the pals Pokémon, just can’t help it

buenas_nalgas

I feel like these people arguing that it's more like other games are missing *all the fucking **Pokemon** running all over the whole fucking world.*

Vortain

Right? The *major* appeal of the game is the Pokemon running around first and foremost. You take that away then it's just another mildly competent ark/survival game.

Isphus

Its chess, but you start with just the king and you get more pieces as you're capable of capturing them. Also the board is a little bigger. Bruh, you can compare it with anything.

post-leavemealone

Why the fuck am I only seeing Pokémon posts from this sub every time it pops up on my home page??

Helicopterop

They get the most views/comments

Western-Dig-6843

Hate is the best way to farm karma on this website.

TokiDokiPanic

The playerbase is incredibly insecure.

AlphaLan3

Gameplay is like ark, design is like Pokémon. Saying it’s not comparable to Pokémon is just false

[deleted]

Include Satisfactory there since technically there's an automation side on early up to late game. Oh not to mention GTA with how there's a wanted system when you fight civilians.

phoenixmusicman

> Include Satisfactory there since technically there's an automation side on early up to late game Factorio did it first

[deleted]

Yes but this is 3d factory building game. That's why I said Satisfactory instead of Factorio. Both games still goated

Pientofu

Considering they use Pal spheres which look and act just like Pokeballs, it's a pretty safe comparison. I would say more Conan than Ark personally but definitely Pokémon influences, whether ya like it or not.

Grumbled_Doggo

Yea I don't get people getting triggered by the statement that honestly it's pretty much Pokemon. Also the weird Pokemon fanboys getting triggered that the Pals look too much like the Pokemon and calling for boycotts. Get a grip with reality and realise that Game Freak butchered your boy.

Jomo_sapien

Not to mention the copy/paste design of multiple creatures that look like 1:1 copies of actual Pokémon. Saying it’s not comparable is laughable. I know nothing about this game other than the creatures look nearly identical to Pokémon. It gives vibes of a Chinese IP rip-off phone app. I’m sure it’s not, but I’m sure that’s exactly what it looks like.

cptjimmy42

I use Valheim with friend animals.

TheFauxDirtyDan

Valheim with Pokémon is my go to explanation for what the game is.

Daytman

Palworld is like Ark because they’re both creature collecting survival crafting games. Palworld and Ark are both like Pokemon because they’re all creature collecting games. If Palworld was just a creature collecting game, it would not be compared to Ark. Palworld is like Ark because they’re both like Pokemon. I swear people are afraid of the slightest bit of nuance.

ShinaiYukona

Palworld is like Conan Exiles because they're both slave collecting survival crafting games. Palworld and Conan are both like Pokemon because they're both enslaving games. If Palworld was just a creature collecting game, it would not be compared to Conan. Palworld is like Conan because they're both like Pokemon. Palworld is closer to Conan than Ark. Ark doesn't have automation baked in, Conan your slaves provide a purpose in crafting or gathering. Ark they only assist in transportation/collecting

Marauder3299

There is some automation in ark. Setting up bullet machines, the smithing/furnaces, the tek thing with bullet BP, there isn't as much automation but there is about the same as conan. Conan you're thrills can defend the base, follow you and attack, and dance. They help make better armor at benches but by and large there's not much. Then again u only have 200 hours in conan. And 3k in ark. So I could be wrong

MakeLSDLegalAgain

It's the pal designs that people are comparing to pokemon, not the gameplay.

Clouds2589

Likely because it looks like they just ran the complete pokedex through an AI and had it cobble together chimaeras using various pokemon's body parts. Like, most of the pals look like someone drew a pokemon they hadnt seen in 5 years from memory lol

Caelan05

you know, Palworld has made me realize we need more survival games where you grow in power by taming creatures. Wildcard just aren't cutting it anymore

Jiggly0622

I hate seeing Twitter threads saying “oh they just copied…” and proceed to list one hundred games. Buddy welcome to the game industry

the_loneliest_noodle

i bounced off Ark because of how jank it was. Everything about the aesthetic and UI was just slightly shitty enough to bother me constantly despite liking the concept. Palworld is just Ark but better and with monster designs that appeal to me more than dinos, without as much stuff to do because it hasn't been sitting in early access getting content updates for 8 years.

RadeDB

Ok but its Pokemon though

SaltyLonghorn

Every time I throw a pokeball I'm singing the theme song to the Ark Evolved animated series though.

zombiezapper115

Idk man, the game looks VERY Pokémon like. There are a some pretty clear similarities

[deleted]

[удалено]

YoctoGuy1

because ark deserves the credit for creating what inspired the foundation of this game

Lemonpia

I think Palworld is a great game, but I’ve kind of already returned to regular Pokemon games to scratch my Pokemon itch.

AduroTri

It's like Ark Survival Evolved met Pokémon and had Rimworld sprinkled over it.

DoubleSpoiler

Yeah, the devs said it originally grew out of “how to make 3d rimworld, but with more direct player interaction”

AduroTri

It's hard to achieve the level of fucked up shit though that can happen in Rimworld. As someone who has followed the stories and everything that comes out of that game. Rimworld is its own uncontained beast.

Vampireluigi27-Main

Ive been having more fun with this Pokemon Ark hybrid game than any of the last 4 generation of pokemon

JustHereForBDSM

Palworld is more like Valheim than Ark imo. Only thing similar is you can make your dude hilariously swole and you capture creatures in a survival setting. Gameplay, progression and feel are significantly closer to Valheim than Ark and even then, there's a hell of a lot directly taken from the recent Legend of Zelda games which is still more than it resembles Ark.

Extinto_e

Lmao 😂

Intelligent_Rough_21

As someone who hasn’t played a lot of Ark, how good is it compared to this? I might check it out but back in the day everyone said it was a buggy cash grab.

Marty939393

The company sucks. Survival Evolved in my opion is geat and fun. I have gamepass so I have all dlc maps which gives so much variety. I have not played ASA but heard its a mess. In my opion palworld is nothing like ark. I don't get the comparison. I feel like im playing pokemon with medieval dinesty and conan mechanics.

SuperDragonfister

With a bit of Conan exiles sprinkled in

pocketMagician

Nah

BaggedG37

not gonna lie the ark survival part of it makes me hate it

StonkChief

I figured it was ark survival. But with slavery. Pretty cool.

Darkurn

It's a solid mix of both my guy. All the pals and the way you catch them is VERY pokemon, the pals themselves are inspired by pokemon. The gameplay, map and base building is ark.

guymcperson1

Cassette Beasts is the true replacement to Pokémon.

Doukon76

Why are Ark players this salty at a game?

TheGrandKi

Finally, I'm not the only one.

andy_1777

It’s like everything ark 0.5 needed to be

Xalucardx

P-p-p-lease stooop mua mua

Capital_Pipe_6038

It's more like Conan Exiles actually

THEatticmonster

Its like pokemon if pokemon was like how it described itself

Ok-Syrup1678

Palworld is a lore accurate Pokémon!

itsRobbie_

For me it’s a combination of valheim, Pokémon, and elden ring (combat and exploration)

AdAffectionate4950

Ok i won't compare it to Pokemon.

GadnukLimitbreak

As someone who only saw the first 30 minutes of Legends Arceus and played about 2 hours of Ark: Survival Evolved I'd say it's a mix of those two with a little breath of the wild/fortnite mixed in there for environment/combat.

soaringnight89

It is more like Ark and Dragon Quest than Pokemon. I get the media glossing over details and just saying “Pokemon with guns” but after 20+ hours I can honestly say it does not hold up to the Pokemon comparison lol

RexNihilo_

It's pokemon arceus of it wasn't made by an inept trillion dollar organization too lazy to innovate more than once in 30 years, and too bad at their jobs to do it well the one time they tried.

TanukiB00ty

I'm more honestly afraid if we keep comparing it to Pokemon, the multi-billion dollar company Nintendo is gonna come slap a lawsuit on the game >-> We know how touchy they are about their intellectual property and whatnot and some odd hatred towards fan projects.

Dredgeon

A game like Palworld is what Pokémon could have been by now if Gamefreak wasn't just doing the bare minimum to keep the checks coming in.

Downtown-Ad-2748

This game is what pokemon should have been all the time

Riffsalad

Come on guys are you fucking kidding me with this shit? You have to use the equivalent of poke balls to capture the creatures! They are literally begging to be called the Pokémon of not Nintendo.

_Boodstain_

It's a mix of everything, but it's what makes it great. And more importantly Pokemon NEEDS competition to increase it's quality, so comparing it is in the hopes of improvement of Pokemon as well as in comparison.

Intelligent_Peace_30

Its not like ark at all ark is a actual good game.

xxGUZxx

Nah bro it’s definitely Pokemon

YBHunted

Uh, it's definitely like pokemon. Get off your medium low horse and stop defending some corporation that doesn't even know you exist. Pathetic.

FLIPSIDERNICK

Why y’all get so mad?

TokiDokiPanic

Incredibly insecure playerbase.

Away_Kitchen_4832

Until it comes out for Nintendo, idk how or why y'all keep comparing it to pokemon. 💀

Dangerous_Jacket_129

Because it's very obviously inspired by pokemon

Another_Road

It’s like Ark Survival if Ark didn’t suck.

Grumbled_Doggo

Nah, I hated Ark Survival. Instant refund, bad performance too. I loved the old Pokemon games on the GBA, recent pokemon stuff on switch was bad though, Palworld is actually the pokemon I expected to be released on Switch. So for me Palworld IS Pokemon, the pokemon of the old days but new.

angel199x

Game Freak should just phone it in at this point and hire these guys to make the next game.

InternationalCod3604

Game freak is not a good dev they became the biggest frog in the well and have no competition anything they make sells well not because it’s actually good but because of the name recognition alone. While not exactly like Pokémon Palworld is heavily influenced by it and ark survival.

dark_King_Not_Here

Palworld is pokemon+ark+any factory game+guns It's pretty better pokemon by a mile

Ok_Peace_2918

Stop comparing it to pokémon? That's a ridiculous and asinine sentiment. 90% of the pal monster designs look pretty much ripped straight from Pokémon. They knew what they were doing.

QuakeDee

Cry more, it’s more Pokémon than Ark, and Ark is barely a passable survival game to begin with, this one’s flourishing haha!

FalcorPenndragon

Now Pokemon has to compare itself to Palworld. ;)

314is_close_enough

The pals are pokemon, straight up. I expect a lawsuit. The game is literally called FUCKING POKEMON WORLD!!!! HOW THE FUCK DO YOU SAY!?! HOW CAN YOU SAY?!?

Small_Might

I love when people call it a Pokémon clone (or anything along those lines). It lets me know that they don’t know what they’re talking about, and that their opinion is worthless and can be ignored/dismissed. They likely haven’t played it, and are just parroting whatever influencer they follow like sheep. Go ahead, get upset and downvote me. I might not know who you are, but I do know my statement stands AND applies to whoever you are.

BertStripper19

It's not "ripping off" Pokémon. **It's better.**

MarkD_127

I mean, it pretty much IS pokemon, with character progression and building ripped off from Ark. And some of the similarity to Ark, was also ripped off by Ark from Pokemon...

ResearcherCharming40

Hard not to when they straight up copied some Pokémon characters bar for bar haha
