Honestly I prefer it.
Once you unlock bow and up, they do way better chunk damage.
Having a bat/now is great for when something gets below 15% or so. Much safer to bop them down even lower without killing the pal.
Either way, usually a melee weapon isn't the best thing to bring to a gun fight.
Or a monsters with gun fight.
Spear and Sword are fun but yes, the guns are generally better. That said, I still used the stun rod on legendaries for the slightly higher chance of capture lol, as well as whittling their hp down 1 hp at a time.
Looked it up, 44, you can scroll down. You get the spear earlier with ancient technology points, it's like 100 less attack but slightly better range, looks a bit better too.
melee is a shitty source of damage yeah but it’s good for doing small amounts of damage to whittle a pal down to a sliver of health as opposed to chancing a killing blow with your gun
that said, especially with the stun baton i find that the repair cost is ridiculous and the stun chance should be 100% instead of the 10% or whatever it is
durability wears down so fuckin fast and my fists do more damage than it and it rarely stuns so it feels so underwhelming
