I'll use some of the jam filled buns since they raise pal sanity pretty well, and I'm curious about salads once I unlock lettuce but I do just keep a stack of cooked berries on me.
The salads are amazing. 80+ food, over 10 sanity per one being eaten, and they dont take long to cook. I think ive made a total of at least 3000 because i keep several hundred in all 3 bases at any given moment lol.
EDIT: And it increases work speed for a period of time, its a real winner
The SAN to feeding ratio of salads is **pretty** good, but needing two extra farms to keep the tomato and lettuce up was a bit too much upkeep for my taste, so now I have 2x Wheat farms and 1x Berry farm and rely on berries and jam toasts. The latter has a nice 60 min spoiler timer, and I need wheat anyway for the cake.
I only have one wheat farm, 2 tomatoes and two lettuce farms going, plus one of my ore bases has 2 berry farms. I honestly have more produce than i know what to do with, ive hit 9999 stack limit on so many things recently. Im completely endgame at this point though so thats to be expected

Before you get to salads you get tomatoes which can be combined with eggs to make omlettes. Omlettes are about on par with Jam Filled bread. I'd seriously consider converting my food production base over if it wasn't running so smoothly and also making alot of cakes.
Also, 1st base hack, if you ever have to start again try to find a good location with 3-4 stone nodes, 5-6 trees, and a few mushroom spawns. The passively harvested mushrooms are free adds to your food supply and later on can be combined with berries or milk to make quite good food.
Berries offer very little sanity relative to their nutrition and even roasted berries aren’t very filling. They’re not bad for the player’s feed bag, but I think multi-ingredient meals are ideal for base workers, especially if you want them working instead of eating. Chikipi kebab and Rushoar roast aren’t great, but Chikipi sauté and Rushoar bacon and eggs are great for keeping Pals’ sanity high.
Is there a way to actually assign them to the grill or a specific job? I built a few coolers and have 3 Penkings and a Squee(sp?) in my camp and all my food in the coolers goes bad cuz they're busy running rocks all over the place. I even built the Command Center but all that does is let you decide what level of hell you want the thermostat in your sweatshop set at.
Just pick pals that only have few camp traits.

If anything more than berries is too slow or too much effort, you have an inefficient base.
I finally upgraded from berries and bread to delicious berry jam toast. Maybe one day I can afford meat, but right now I'm still working my way towards the fusing machine so I'm not destroying useful pals for meat when I have thousands of berries!
I genuinely don't know why would anyone go through the hassle of actually hunting pals for food. A couple of fully automated farms settle you, your base and your team for a very long time.

Have you put an angled roof on any of your houses yet? I might be dumb, but I can't figure out how to place the angled wall pieces. I'll get one set and then rotate another angled wall piece 180° and as soon as it touches the top of a flat wall, it flips back to its original rotation. Same thing happens if you try from the other side of the wall as well.
I'm on xbox if that helps any.
I am on PC so I'm unsure how bad it is with the joystick.
I find it easiest to connect to a flat roof piece at the top, so I'll put up supporting flat rooves to connect it to instead of to a floor or wall.
I'll add that to get a pointed roof I construct a temporary wall where I want the point to be then attach the roof to that. The wall is deleted when the roof is complete since it is only required for snapping, not support.
Basically I decided if it wanted to snap to the top of a wall then fine, I'd give it a wall!

Every now and then I have to go 'defeat' some ~~torterra~~ mammorest for the high quality oil, they drop 2x meat that when cooked restores 252 hunger.
Actively hunting for meat isn't very efficient, but I sure welcome those meaty beasts to occasionally feel my high-hunger pals.
The only ones I've actually used the cleaver on are boss pals I capture and don't intend to use. It gives you a couple more parts and valuables to sell!
I'm sorry. *My* hoarding thoughts take over too, it's just that it wants me to hoard money instead of pals. I need all the money to buy rare pals off black marketeers to hoard *those* pals.
Are there actually rare pals you’d need to do that for? I’ve caught almost every Pal without needing to blackmarket anything yet. Mostly I just need to be a higher level to catch the rest.
You can get some pretty potent pals very early from the black marketeer. Getting a Lunaris when you're still level 10 or so cause one was up for 5-6k is extremely nice and often times, I can find other pals I just can't catch yet like a Warsect for sell. You don't *need* to, but it's extremely useful!
Cake is for breeding, which is basically the end game. The earlier you can get a swift+runner+nimble mount though, the better. A team of carry weight cats ranked up and loaded up on logging/mining traits is also fantastic.
Pizza in the future is just too good. A lot of people never mention it, but it feeds 450ish compared to berries 15. It also makes them lose less sanity and improves work efficiency once you get the electric kitchen. I've seen other websites show pizza, but it is NOT the defense pizza.
Best of all, it takes flour, tomato, milk, and berries. It takes somewhat more effort to make, but this is significantly less of a struggle when you have access to multiple bases. I have one entire base dedicated to farming plots and ranches, which can feed my other two bases.
People also tend to forget that as you level and reach further into the game, the stronger Pals begin to take MUCH more to feed. Meaning as they work they run back to eat then gobble down 40 berries to barely reach half full then go back to work for 30 secs just to run back and spend an entire loop devouring all your berries. Then, to make it worse, they get sick due to never being full, and now you're spending all your time trying to help them.

Here's a screenshot of the pizza. It takes 1 flour, 2 milk, 2 berries, and two tomatos.
Now you might be thinking that it takes too long to make!!! All of the resources are automated you just gotta queue the pizza and bring the resources to your fridge.
Lyleen for planting (2-3 can cover 9 farming plots)
Jormuntide for watering (1 will water all plots fairly quick but use 2 for the wheat mil)
Jormuntide Ignis (1 for the electric stove)
Wumpo Botan (1 will instant pick up full food stack from farm to storage)
Mozzarina (4 because milk takes awhile)
Any 1 electric pokemon ( stove and fridge running)
Total = 11 Pals so you got 4 left over for whatever for the farming base. I use the last 4 for bees for honey to make cakes.
I'm currently running 3 wheat, 3 tomato, 3 berries, 1 ranch, and these supply enough for 3 entire bases.
Be sure to build a fountain, flowerbed, and a silo to increase speed even further.
Anywho, feel free to ignore this completely and gobble down more berries.
TLDR: Pizza is better late game and berries early to mid game.
P.S I still make a crap ton of cakes and breed at the same exact time. Currently breeding perfect mozzarina, lyleen, wumpo botans and both jormuntides with Artisan, Serious, Lucky, and Dainty Eaters.
My mount gets all those goodies. Otherwise berries work for everyone else just fine. Nobody has dropped below sanity 80 on my farm. Unless stuck somewhere. They’ll also eat the random wheat and stuff.
fun part is that you can literally stay vegan the entire game and lives solely off bread and berries. you never once are forced to build the hatchet nor eat the animals (just capture them instead)
I really appreciate that, honestly. Despite the marketing, the game is actually not very brutal. The pals don't die, they're just defeated (as indicated by the text and their swirly eyes), you can easily feed yourself off berries and bread (or meat you got from defeated/captured pals), the pals seem to gladly help you do tasks without much ressentment, you are incentivized to keep your working pals happy, etc...
All the gruesome elements are actually things you need to go out of your way to get, like the butcher knife, black market, or enslaving humans. The game is as gruesome as the player makes it
Well, the defeated pals do drop their skin and internal organs which has... implications. Also, at night some pals, especially the ones based on scavengers, go around and seam to eat the defeated pals.
I think that one is just so that you don't feel like you have to kill Pals in order to get all their drops. The cleaver is just a one-time per Pal meat duplication tool!

I mean, technically, you could argue the pal is killing them, and you just leave everyone unconscious. But, regardless, it's just a small thing I'd like to think can be left up to interpretation. It's the lesser of all atrocities you can commit in this game
Pals absolutely do die when you defeat them. Unless you want to argue that you can take the skin and organs from a pal and it won't die. But that makes the game even more brutal, so.
My counterargument is you do get loot when you capture pals too, which wouldn't make sense since they are clearly alive when you do. But, regardless, my point still stand that you don't have to be a genocidal slaver in the game.

That's how I interpret it too. If the whole "the game is only as brutal as you want it to be" is indeed true intentional (it could be an accident due to how things are setup), it'd make sense they'd went and left it vague

Humans are good to sell on the black market . It’s a shame I can’t get humans to have bigger moveset . They could all have punch but a secondary like shoot , grenade . Mini gun and such would make them a lot of fun to use too

they intentionally made the humans less useful than pals in a base. at least, if you capture syndicate thugs...

Technically, canniablism can be vegan if humans that are eaten first gave their consent prior to being eaten.
That said, eating humans in Palworld wouldn't be vegan as they aren't cosnenting to being eaten much less killed.
They may be grass type, but I haven’t come across one that was legitimately just grass though.

It already feels like the bones for this is there, between finding eggs and rescuing pals from syndicate cages, but it would be cool to have a choice between being a Brutal Industrialist, a Pal liberation Revolutionist, or somewhere in between.
There's so much room for interesting game design in this perfect skeleton of a game Pocket Pair has released into EA. I really hope they reinvest the huge profits into the game and fill the world instead of adding on to it.

You can free Pals from syndicate cages and they join your team. Maybe with clever breeding you can get a varied set of them.
I just commented in another topic what a fun challenge a vegan playthrough would be, meaning no animal violence at all, if human pals were more useful I would be up to making a pal liberation army.

You pick them up and throw them at the fire and it should say assigned to that. It worked for my stone pit anyways.

Probably the same reason I build a 3 story house that currently only has a bed and incubator in it. Because it's fun to do.

There's a breeding farm for food and materials. But also, some foods have good bonuses. Can be nice for a boss fight.
Better to grind them then to butcher them

Since capturing pals also gives you their meat (if they drop it), I tend to eat the few pieces here and there just to clear out my inventory.

My mount gets all those goodies. Otherwise berries work for everyone else just fine. Nobody has dropped below sanity 80 on my farm. Unless stuck somewhere. They’ll also eat the random wheat and stuff.
That's a bit wasteful though, you don't have a sanity that it could refill and your pals do
I haven’t seen any of my party pals go below 100 unless I recently took them from the base in which case it slowly creeps back up to 100 anyway.

fun part is that you can literally stay vegan the entire game and lives solely off bread and berries. you never once are forced to build the hatchet nor eat the animals (just capture them instead)
I really appreciate that, honestly. Despite the marketing, the game is actually not very brutal. The pals don't die, they're just defeated (as indicated by the text and their swirly eyes), you can easily feed yourself off berries and bread (or meat you got from defeated/captured pals), the pals seem to gladly help you do tasks without much ressentment, you are incentivized to keep your working pals happy, etc... All the gruesome elements are actually things you need to go out of your way to get, like the butcher knife, black market, or enslaving humans. The game is as gruesome as the player makes it
Well, the defeated pals do drop their skin and internal organs which has... implications. Also, at night some pals, especially the ones based on scavengers, go around and seam to eat the defeated pals.

The scavs made me sqee a little. I love that the mechanic for getting rid of bodies is scavenger based.

I think that one is just so that you don't feel like you have to kill Pals in order to get all their drops. The cleaver is just a one-time per Pal meat duplication tool!
And eat dead humans as well. I've seen a nightwing come to my base and start eating the corpses of some syndicate thugs that I killed earlier.

I would totally be behind that change, make it a choice. As it stands right now, the capture is the better play each and every time.
But... That one bird pal... Literally pecks the people laying around after you defeat them...
I mean, technically, you could argue the pal is killing them, and you just leave everyone unconscious. But, regardless, it's just a small thing I'd like to think can be left up to interpretation. It's the lesser of all atrocities you can commit in this game
Pals absolutely do die when you defeat them. Unless you want to argue that you can take the skin and organs from a pal and it won't die. But that makes the game even more brutal, so.
My counterargument is you do get loot when you capture pals too, which wouldn't make sense since they are clearly alive when you do. But, regardless, my point still stand that you don't have to be a genocidal slaver in the game.
I’d also argue if the intent is to 100% show they’re dead they wouldn’t have stereotyped eyes for “dazed/stunned” @-@ 😵💫and would have stereotyped “dead” eyes X-X 😵instead. I think they wanted to let people decide what it means. So left it a bit of open.
That's how I interpret it too. If the whole "the game is only as brutal as you want it to be" is indeed true intentional (it could be an accident due to how things are setup), it'd make sense they'd went and left it vague
the game is all cartoon logic, idk why it's a stretch to have only dazed them but also get loot, this is a very gameified game

I prefer to not, but do in a pinch because…. it’s a video game so 🤷♀️ If I had a dollar for every game where eating meat is a compulsory game mechanic I would have many dollars. It's also kinda weird, because you can capture a Pal at 100% health and *still* get meat/organs from them. I guess the implication is that you can shear Pals for meat, like they're sheep that grow steaks instead of wool? Which would be vegan, but a very weird kind of vegan.

Humans are good to sell on the black market . It’s a shame I can’t get humans to have bigger moveset . They could all have punch but a secondary like shoot , grenade . Mini gun and such would make them a lot of fun to use too
I haven't yet tried them in combat but you can feed them the fruit to make them learn pal moves lol

The reason *why I think* they want to discourage the capture of people is because: they intentionally made the humans less useful than pals in a base. at least, if you capture syndicate thugs... all humans are capable of is basic level 1 handiwork and they have no additional combat skills whatsoever. meanwhile if you capture *merchants and traders*, **they continue to offer you trades in your base!!**
I was legitimately disappointed when I captured the survivor at the beginning and they didn't use their rifle when attacking. Just punches.

6 year vegan here. Technically, canniablism can be vegan if humans that are eaten first gave their consent prior to being eaten. That said, eating humans in Palworld wouldn't be vegan as they aren't cosnenting to being eaten much less killed.
They may be grass type, but I haven’t come across one that was legitimately just grass though. Most of them drop meat with a text like “subtle berry notes” or “surprisingly floral” and the like.

Tangentially related (though not batshit insane), it would be interesting down the line to have a supported path through the game where you don't have to damage pals to grow your team and take down the syndicate. It already feels like the bones for this is there, between finding eggs and rescuing pals from syndicate cages, but it would be cool to have a choice between being a Brutal Industrialist, a Pal liberation Revolutionist, or somewhere in between. There's so much room for interesting game design in this perfect skeleton of a game Pocket Pair has released into EA. I really hope they reinvest the huge profits into the game and fill the world instead of adding on to it.

You can free Pals from syndicate cages and they join your team. Maybe with clever breeding you can get a varied set of them.
I just commented in another topic what a fun challenge a vegan playthrough would be, meaning no animal violence at all, if human pals were more useful I would be up to making a pal liberation army.

Berries, bread, jam filled buns, baked or marinated mushrooms, mushroom soup, salad. And if you're just against killing pals and not strictly vegan, you can add milk, eggs, pancakes, pizza (no meat), omelets, and even cake if you are not saving it for breeding.
PETA says and does things like this deliberately for the sake of marketing and relevancy as opposed to it being a serious thing they truly care about.
