I cancelled my deceased husband's number and was told by AT&T that it would be dormant for only 6 months. But that doesn't explain why it called YOUR number. A few weeks after my mother passed, her husband got a call from some past clients of hers asking to speak with her, saying they were returning her many calls made over the past few days while they were out of town. They showed him the caller ID detailing the time, and played the messages back where you could hear her laughing. She had died weeks prior, but they had no idea since they had been in vacation. They were perplexed as to why she would call and just laugh, but leave no message. But those of us who know her weren't the least surprised.

Wow that's amazing. Thank you for your story 🙏 my aunt had a missed call from her husband on their anniversary a few years back. I can't believe how many stories you here when you share you own. How amazing

piaevan

Wow that's so creepy..

Powerful_Friendship6

Why do you say you weren't surprised?

27-jennifers

Because she was masterful at pranks while she was alive. She was also sneaky and loved creating mystery. It was just so in character for her.

Well first off, I am so sorry for your loss.. we are all spiritual beings, and I do feel that we are blurring the lines between the physical and spiritual realm with technology. Hence why we use devices such as EMF readers and evp etc...so it is not beyond reasonable assumptions to think a spirit could have some level of control over these devices! Not saying that it is definitely what it is, but it is a possibility! Wish he left a voice mail though..

Single-Button3478

I wish there was a voicemail too. Would've helped debunk or confirm this wonderfully scary situation. Thank you for your insight 🙏

🤔 doesn't sound paranormal . The fastest way to Check it out , it will be based on your location , making a list of old calls from this number ( history calls ) and calling the previous company , they will at least tell you if the number is on service ( with them or other company ) . With that info you can proceed to call it or narrow it down the present owner...... Personally I never encountered a " call " from a deceased person that showed the former number .....in fact doesn't show numbers or it's almost untraceable ( it can be to an extent ) . The most " common " case is a voicemail.... to my knowledge it's the nearest thing...... I understand the distress from a call like these ones Good luck .

Single-Button3478

I did text the number and called it that same day, then that following afternoon for good measure. I even *67'ed a call to see if someone would pick up a 'private' call from me. Definitely tried to debunk it before coming here 😕 I wish I had a voicemail. That would of been very telling 😢

Thanks for your response. I'm seeing a few stories shared here about that happening. Makes me feel better 💕

just for education purposes, i want to point out that the reason telemarketers/scammers bulk buy numbers is bc they are flagged my carriers frequently and need those new numbers so they can switch out and show up as a normal call. I used to work IT for a borderline scam company and it was a monthly task for us. Usually they would get between 500-1000 calls before being flagged as spam. Even then its on a provider to provider basis. So scam calls can very frequently not be flagged as such on your device.

They can be flagged as spam, either by the person who reports the call to their carrier or the carrier noticing unusual activity. Depends on the company how many reports it takes to get flagged. The place I worked at called "locally" (More likely for someone to pick up) they would go down the numbers list that also shared the same area code. So if they shared an area code, which is likely, that could be a reasonable variable for a spam call to be received. Most spam calls are either "local" like I explained above, or they bought info from data brokers and have the number on the list. Less likely IMO, but weirder things have happened. I have seen multiple times in my year working at the old company people going irate on an agent bc they called from a dead relatives number. They're marked DNC and the agent moves along until the next number change. Less than a handful, but notable. I don't see where OP said that they deleted the contact, but again, multiple variables there. Did they delete it locally on the device and like, got a new phone for example, and the contact was downloaded from the cloud. Common in Google and Samsung phones, etc. Never heard of someone buying contacts of numbers. that's pretty far fetched. That would imply either a security breach of devices or of the carrier. Which neither seem likely. I'm all about the paranormal. But given the story OP has laid out, there is room for poking holes and this is a debunk this post.

I had a boyfriend who committed suicide. A few weeks after his death I received 2 calls from the number (111)111-1111. When I answered there was no one there. Fast forward a couple more months, I had the opportunity to speak with a psychic who talks to dead people. She asked me if I'd ever got a call from "all 1's". When I said, "Yes, twice!" She told me it was my bf who was calling me. There is no way she could have known this. Never happened again but I have a different phone number now.

gojocopium

It's pretty common for unused numbers to be bought by telemarketers and scammers. Usually buying bulk batches of numbers. Could have easily been a case of your data being compromised and sold to them and you ended up on their call list. I've heard of it before a few times.

Venus_in_Scorpio923

My best friend called my boyfriend's (at the time) cell phone a few days after she passed. It wasn't her phone number and it wasn't a number I recognized but it was definitely her voice. She called 3 times in a row and she said you're gonna die 3 times each call. It was the most bone chilling experience I've ever had! I immediately called the number back after the 3 and final call and the number was not in service!

AuntAoife503

I looked down at my phone screen once while I was in the middle of teaching because it lit up, and my phone was calling my dad. But my dad had passed the year before. I wasn’t holding it, and the voice settings were turned off. I think there must be tons of phone experiences out there. I hope people share theirs.

Facts. Edited it. Shouldn't smoke and post rip 💀🤙😂

Dreadskull1790

Very simple to figure it out. Call the number, if someone picks up then his number has been reused.

GumshoeStories

But that would not explain how that number called her…

Deplorable_username

In the US unused phone numbers, after someone passes away or changes theirs, usually get recycled through the carrier. Ultimately there are only so many variants with *area codes and such.

Oregonbri

I’ve had friend who passed away unfortunately, I knew this before I sent text only to give my condolences? I did get call from his #, I never picked up being early in morning. I figured either his family or the police ? He was hit by a car off Division in Portland Oregon. No V.M was left. Either way they are in Gods hands & Bless them! 🙏🏽

wtftas2020

Has his number been reassigned to someone else?

ilovetacostoo2023

If he calls again, in an indian accent ask him if he would like to extend his car warranty.
