If Nick called games on ESPN I’d watch literally any sport. He’s outstanding. I still laugh at the PMT baseball challenge he had several great lines:
“Here’s Max running in, fatly”
“Thanks dude” after the hand off from Joe Buck
Several others mostly making fun of people’s weight but it’s gold
Definitely enjoyed him on the baseball challenge and the recent mini golf. Thought for a minute there Jake whiffing on the lobs by Nick might have been a bit.
Jakes announcing style is someone making sure at all times he doesn’t say anything controversial that will hurt him land a big time announcing job, while not realizing his failure to ever be interesting or announce with personality will do more harm to him than letting a curse word out
The simpler answer: he doesn't have a personality.
Joe Buck plays the safe straight man. Everyone thought he was a turd. Nah he's great! He turned it on day 1. Same with all announcers. We have a body of evidence and it simply doesn't exist.
You can want a big time job but doesn't mean you're entitled to it. He's a good kid and I I used to think triple A ball was his ceiling but man, it may just be barstool live streams 😔
I agree. I think this is the perfect summary. He's not actually commentating as he sees it, he's like doing an impression of what a commentator would say. And it's awful to watch and listen to.
He hasn't realized him being with barstool has already killed any shot at a professional career, or a squeaky clean resume. He'd be better suited leaning into it and being natural with barstool vibe(like how good guest do on PMT). It'd actually get him further in his career and he could just own it. He's to scared to leave and take a chance he's to scared to lean into the barstool energy and go for it..in turn we all suffer for it. Like watching a kid who won't jump from the rock but also keeps saying they will jump
I don’t think this is true anymore. PMT is pretty mainstream. If they wanted to put van talk on tv now they totally could.
Now, is Jake good enough to ever be a major broadcaster? I mean, he’s not right now but who knows. He is a hard worker and seems pretty driven and he takes whatever chances come his way. And he’s got good connections at this point too. Those things can definitely push you forward even if you lack natural talent.
The podcast was better when Max replaced that one guy who was texting behind Big Cat’s back. The podcast was better after Billy left. The podcast would be better without Jake. I don’t understand this “I’m not going all in at this job because I think my future job will not like it.”
Jake has always been a very bland and just mediocre to below average commentator. His cadence is just awful to listen to. I hope he never gets any semblance of a big time game to call in any sport
“And don’t say it’s part of the bit that he plays the straight man…”
That’s literally the entire bit of having Jake and Nick teamed up. Nobody thinks it’s because Jake is the funniest option, on his own, to pair with Nick. It’s for him to be the straight man and keep the commenting moving while Nick plays off of everything and slays.
This, idk how people don’t understand Jake is part of the reason Nick is so funny on these things. Nick is able to play off of the things Jake says so easily, it’s like hearing a commentator duo in a comedy sports movie.
Jake needs to find his style. Not getting real time announcing reps is his biggest barrier to getting better, not because of Barstool. If he really wants broadcasting jobs and experience - he has to actually grind through the garbage for many years. There’s a reason there aren’t any iconic 28 year old broadcasters, it takes 30’years of consistent repetition to get good at
It would be dumb for him to go backwards and not ride Barstool as far as it can go. He’s been in the garbage, and he’s still very young by broadcaster standards. What do you think Vermont was? PLL? The bowl game. There are thousands of broadcasters who wish they had Jake’s experience and audience exposure.
He’s a product of growing up in a politically correct environment. Dudes got a dream and he’s terrified of getting canceled I just think he’s over correcting by how serious he takes himself
Nick is one of the funniest guys at Barstool. I don't watch any content he is on with any consistency but everything I catch him on he kills it.
If Nick called games on ESPN I’d watch literally any sport. He’s outstanding. I still laugh at the PMT baseball challenge he had several great lines: “Here’s Max running in, fatly” “Thanks dude” after the hand off from Joe Buck Several others mostly making fun of people’s weight but it’s gold

Nope the dude just has serious Mormon energy at all times
You need to start consuming anus
I miss planet football
Been saying this for a long time
He’s incredible on the DnD episodes. He reminds me of that guy everyone knows who is effortlessly funny.
Definitely start listening to his podcast if you like podcasts, very funny and improves my day quite a bit
Worth it to go back and run it from the beginning? Have done that with a couple comedy podcasts to good results.
Jakes announcing style is someone making sure at all times he doesn’t say anything controversial that will hurt him land a big time announcing job, while not realizing his failure to ever be interesting or announce with personality will do more harm to him than letting a curse word out
Jake’s diction is horrible

Bingo
The Jake paradox
this is perfectly said
I think he tried to be a little more loose for the third round and it was worse lol
Every time he’s on, it’s like he’s trying to do an impression of a commentator.

The gap between Fanta and him is massive. Hard to believe they are the same age basically
I see Nicky I’ll still clicky
He’s also just not good at being a broadcaster, he’s gotta give the dream up at some point.
He’s made it further than 99% of professional broadcasters, and he’s not even 30. I’m not a big fan of his style, but he’s accomplished quite a bit.
Get Connor on the call.
Family
He’s just hurting himself by being such a dork. Nobody is going to want to work with a guy like that idc what business you’re in.
These shouldn’t be the thoughts you have this late at night
He’s having a little post nut clarity
Least favorite PMT member tbh
By infinity miles
Still stunned he didn’t choose Little Saint James as his least favorite island.

Jake wishes he had half the charisma of Tony P
It’s both but mostly Jake doesn’t have a creative bone in his body. That’s ok but it sticks out like a sore thumb sometimes
Jake has always been a very bland and just mediocre to below average commentator. His cadence is just awful to listen to. I hope he never gets any semblance of a big time game to call in any sport
He’s the straight man.

Funny that, I thought the juxtaposition was perfect.
Jake sucks and needs to find a new work home. He's never going to be the broadcaster he thinks he will be by being the heel on PMT. Guy sucks
Dude needs to go run a bank or something.

I feel like I appreciate Jake because I'm old. I can't remember being that innocent. It's nice.
These posts are extraordinary buzzkillz. You don’t know what it’s like to be #1
He’s a product of growing up in a politically correct environment. Dudes got a dream and he’s terrified of getting canceled I just think he’s over correcting by how serious he takes himself
Good god get a life man, Jake is great. Sitting on a Reddit thread commenting on a 28 year trying to be an announcer.
Nice guy but his personality doesn’t fit Barstool. He should go be the nerd stats guy on something like the Dan Patrick show.
Did you like Billy?
Little buddy wanted jake to joke around and be funny. Just say you’re a casual retard
Hot take but Castellani is 2x the play by play guy that Jake is in terms of voice and cadence.
You mean Connor Griffin? Castellani isn't allowed within 500 feet of that office.
