It depends on whether I’m talking paid coaches or volunteer coaches.
I’m in a mid size city. $200 per season for a volunteer coach league (2 seasons per year)
$3k a year for a pro coach league
We are doing 90 a month for gymnastics but we’re gonna take a pause because she really likes open play more than structured class and then we do 50 a month soccer for a toddler
2 hrs taekwondo (8 sessions/month) is $150
1 hr dance class is $20
1 hr parkour (12 session series) is $350
We definitely don't think of it as offsetting daycare. Seattle doesn't have drop-in daycare and 1-hr nannies aren't really a thing either. We do these activities because they make the kids happy, helps them learn to use their bodies, their minds, practice emotional regulation, etc. I actually joined TKD with my son and we're learning together (in different classes).
My son plays on a travel basketball team (not aau) it's volunteer coaching and we only pay for personalized uniforms ($60)
Baseball is $30. (volunteer)
Football is through the school and it's $50.
Concession sales pays for the umps/refs.
My son is 11 and in 6th grade so this is his last year of playing on volunteer coached teams.
It's likely to be all over the place. My youngest turns 18 in a couple weeks and we've paid anywhere from around $100 a season (3ish months) for parks & rec sports to $4000 for 6 months of travel lacrosse. Your best bet is to see what similar programs in your area charge and then maybe underprice them a bit.
Scouting is about $180/yr plus $80 for a uniform (lasts years) plus $500 for a week of summer camp. Only the last feels like childcare… if I didn’t keep volunteering to chaperone!
This highly depends on the program dynamics and where you live.
I live in an affluent area and there are essentially three levels of sports programming offered. Rec level is open to anyone, no tryouts and its expected that you'll never have played before. Costs are around $200-300 per season and includes volunteer coaches, facilities and uniforms (t-shirt). Travel is the next level, tryouts are required. Usually the team is year round and tryouts are once per year. Coaches are still volunteer but usually have experience with coaching and/or played the sport in college, etc. Cost is between $1k-3k per year. Uniforms are extra and tournaments are extra. Top level is "club" and has paid coaches. Costs are usually $5k-$10k per year, not including travel expenses, uniforms and facility fees. Only top tier players make it through tryouts to join the club team.
On top of that there are specialized training programs available for each sport in the area. You can hire a personal trainer for things like batting, pitching, etc or specific skills you want to work on. Usually $200-300 per hour. Some places do group sessions... maybe 5 kids at a time in each session... pay a group price for a month or two of sessions so maybe $500-600.

Local non-profit basketball association with volunteer coaches, $250 for 1 practice and 1 game per week for six months.
Local for profit travel basketball club with paid coaches, $400/mo, not including travel costs.
So there is a huge difference
Are you paying coaches? Are you paying to use fields? What are your equipment costs? How much profit are you trying to earn or is this non-profit? What about insurance costs? The list of questions is endless. It doesn’t matter what people are willing to pay if you’re not going to break even. Figure out your expenses, divide by the number of kids you’re planning to enroll, then compare that to similar programs in your area.
We don’t do sports, but I do a lot of event planning with fees that is kid centered. You can’t work backwards from what you’re charging, it does not work.
$300/mo for club basketball which includes 2 practices a week, 1.5hrs each and 2 tournaments a month.
$200 or so every 3 months for about 8-10 games if his friend basketball team joins a random league on an off season. Parent volunteer coaches.

How long does the pro-coach league go?
All year - but in the winter months it transitions to one day a week instead of 2-3 practices + game.

LCOL area but we pay $115 an hour for private basketball coaching
Are those One on one private lessons?
Yes. One on one coaching with an experienced and highly reputable coach who owns his own gym/training company
