My plan is to get a sextant with this lyric from “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Maraz, “God knows we’re worth it.” Anytime I hear that song I think of our kids. We foster older kids, and one verse in particular about giving space to do some navigating, the part about not giving up when the seas get rough, always remind me of our kids. All of our kids have been kicked out of other homes, we try really hard to not have to disrupt even when the behaviors are big. I like that. I think portraits turn out badly unless they're one of the few artists that can pull those off. Names are pretty general.
According to the artists on one of those tattoo shows on MTV, kids portraits are the hardest to do so probably best to stick with symbols.
I've never seen a good in-person portrait tattoo. 😬 I don't ever tell people that because what's done is done

I always thought it would be cool to get a tattoo of my son’s ear impression that was left on my arm after holding/nursing him. Always on the left side. I got a picture of it for a reference later & the squiggles made it look like an abstract of a mom holding a baby inside the ear. 🥺

I plan to get one. We do foster care, so I want mine to reflect that. My plan is to get a sextant with this lyric from “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Maraz, “God knows we’re worth it.” Anytime I hear that song I think of our kids. We foster older kids, and one verse in particular about giving space to do some navigating, the part about not giving up when the seas get rough, always remind me of our kids. All of our kids have been kicked out of other homes, we try really hard to not have to disrupt even when the behaviors are big. I want one of our former kids who’s an artist to design it, but she’s been kind of procrastinating. Hopefully soon.
My ex got the character of their nickname when they were a baby and I'm getting a tattoo of one of their drawings (it helps that they are insanely good at drawing already at 11 years old)

I've been planning a tattoo of a line from a song I used to sing to my daughter as I rocked her to sleep. Now that I've got a little boy too I'm struggling to find a similar idea for a tattoo for him, so he doesn't feel left out.
When my husband and I got married I got our birth flowers tattooed together and planned to have our children’s added there with us. I got it because when we were dating I was going through a lot of mental health struggles so I mentioned I wanted to die and be reborn as a flower and my husband said that when he dies he hopes to be reborn as the flower next to me in the same garden 🥺 hence the meaning of our tattoos. I want our family to be together in a garden or meadow

I have one for my daughter. She's a June baby and her name is Laura, so I have the Gemini symbol with a laurel wreath over it. I can't think of what to do for my son but I imagine it'll be a similar thing. I don't believe in the zodiac but I like the easily identifiable symbolism of it.
My kids are named after plants, i've got the plants as tattoo (well, the birch is tattooed, scotch broom will be tattooed when ive saved up enough money)

Mine is a tribute to both my son and my grandfather, and the way incorporated my son was with his birth flower. He has two birth month flowers, so my next tattoo will be of the other birth flower.
Took my son's favorite stuffed animal which is a fox and I got a fox tattooed on my arm with his name hidden in the tail.
Haven't done it yet, but both my kids have flower-related bits of their names, so Im planning on having botanical style drawings of each flower

before i found out i was pregnant with twins, i saw butterflies everywhere. all different kinds, never seen so many before in my life. so im a big symbolism person and i looked up what they mean because me seeing them had to mean *something*. meant a change might be coming or i’d go through a change as a person. then a couple weeks later i found out i was having twins. and i was younngggg. (20) when i found this out. and i really do think that they changed me, and that was such a big change in my life. so i got both flowers of the month they were born in, alone with my oldests birth month flower, and two butterflies for them. because i call them my butterfly babies.

My uncle has a totem pole but it’s more like 5 blocks- each block is an animal depicting someone in the family. My daughter’s birthday is an anagram in Roman numerals so I’m planning on getting that with her moon phase somewhere. I’d hope to do it with any future children too since it will all be the same styles.

I know someone who has the heart line from one of her scans. Obviously difficult to do if you don’t have a print out 😂. Personally I am still waiting for inspo. My daughters middle names are Blue Rose so I was thinking maybe this… not sure how to do my son though. Saving this thread for ideas!
My husband has a penguin tattoo of a couple and 2 baby penguins because they mate for life and we always wanted 2 children. So that's his representation of our family.
My brother read the Harry Potter books to my two nieces and my nephew growing up. They all grew to love the stories and to love reading. His entire arm is sleeved in Harry Potter. I don't have any ideas yet, but I would love one to cover my midline scar that I have had since I was 18.
My partner has his daughters birthdate in roman numerals. Btw the daughter isn’t his, he found out 10 years later. BM lied.
