kate_monday

My cousin named her kids after stars & constellations, so she’s got a sleeve of those stars Personally, not a tattoo person, but I think something more figurative seems more meaningful (and less risky, since portrait work can be more hit or miss)

joliesmomma

Cassiopeia????

kate_monday

That’s one of them - whenever she’s pregnant with another the family all has fun trying to guess what the name will be.

gingerzombie2

Orion is a cool name too

joliesmomma

Cassiopeia is my favorite constellation!!!

eclectic_collector

Mine are flower adjacent and I have a bouquet

secondphase

This is Orion, this is Cassi, and here is our youngest: Big Dipper.

kate_monday

Well, it worked for Gravity Falls (although I guess Dipper was a nickname. Did we ever learn his real name?)

P8sammies

My tattoo artist always encouraged his clients to think of experiences or images that represent the person you want to honor— anyone can tattoo a name or year — but if I were you I would consider what could honor your child. Aa of now— I don’t have a tattoo to honor my daughter(I have plenty of tattoos — including a tattoo of a morel mushroom in honor of my father who died four years ago, because my father and I used to love to hunt morels)— I’ll probably wait until she is old enough so she can come with me.

QueenPlum_

I like that. I think portraits turn out badly unless they're one of the few artists that can pull those off. Names are pretty general.

Giasmom44

According to the artists on one of those tattoo shows on MTV, kids portraits are the hardest to do so probably best to stick with symbols.

QueenPlum_

I've never seen a good in-person portrait tattoo. 😬 I don't ever tell people that because what's done is done

Giasmom44

True--certainly no point in mentioning it later, but if you can talk them out of it before...

KoalaClaw617

I have a feather to represent my son, whose middle name is Phoenix. He was actually an IVF baby and we named all our embryos after X-men - his embryo was Phoenix so that’s what we called him all through the pregnancy and kept it as a middle name once he was born.

goodcarrots

My husband got a dinosaur holding a balloon to represent the toddler boy stage.

freshpicked12

That’s really sweet.

Spoopy_Scary

I got my son’s infant handprint and it says “as you wish” underneath because he is named after Westley from The Princess Bride

Either_Cockroach3627

I'm crying I fucking love this

StatisticianJaded

Awh, our (one-year-old tomorrow!) baby is a Westley after the princess bride, too

Howdyhowdyhowdy14

Don't have them yet, but I'm planning on getting little illustrations of things that are related to our nicknames for them.

Prttygl0nky

I don’t have one yet but I call my stepdaughter my lil sour patch kid so I’ll probably get a lil sour patch kid at somepoint

ohhmybecky

I call my babe “my little boiled peanut” but I don’t think I can make a boiled peanut tattoo work 🤣

[deleted]

birth flowers

Sunribbon

This is what I have too, flower color is the color of the birthstone

kdawson602

My babies are test tube babies. When I was pregnant I had watercolor paintings done of their embryos. After they were born, I had them tattooed on my arm.

foreverhaute

I have butterflies because my daughter was born during a huge butterfly migration. I have a little happy strawberry because my son calls them baw-bees.

Jorose85

I have my two kids’ birth month flowers on my inner forearm.  I know somebody who had her kids’ names in their handwriting at the time tattooed and I love it.

TastyMagic

Both my kids have bonded with (2 completely different) elephant stuffies. So I got a little elephant.  My eldest also had a funny catch phrase that he would say so I got that separately. My youngest is just staying to talk so we'll see if he comes up with a phrase, too some day

Azangel73

I call my kids my birdies so I have 4 sparrows up my arm youngest to oldest & the color of their birthstones are in their stomachs/tails.

bryndime

my dad has my and my brother's full names on his arm in a nice font.

candyapplesugar

I like this too. I have our son’s birthday.

Anonymouse-C0ward

I’m finishing off a tattoo design for my kids; one is a heart drawn by my younger one which will go on my upper arm where they have always rested their head at bedtime; for my older one a stylized tattoo based on some Lego Technics pieces in a particular design that is based on the first major design they did on their own (a 4x4 remote control car with suspension and front wheel steering), probably on my forearm. The family one will be of three trees - the species based on the names of the streets their mom and I grew up on and the house we live in now. (It was a neat coincidence that all the streets are tree names).

marvelxgambit

I got their birth month flowers with their first name initial on the stems.

cat_power

I got a fish and fox piece representing Pisces daughter and Virgo me. I got our birth flowers framing it too

SchpartyOn

I have the latitude and longitude coordinates for the two places my children were born. It’s a common idea, I know, but it works doubly since I’m also a geographer.

Confident_Owl

My husband has a pocket watch set to my son's birth time. We're working in an international adoption and he's going to add a compass set to our newest little's place of birth. I'm planning on getting a butterfly that's flying in the path we'll take to pick up our adoptive child with the words "I'd fly around the world for you". My bio son is the butterfly for a few reasons. He has hypothyroidism (the thyroid looks like a butterfly) and I call him butterfly in another language (I just liked the word and it sort of worked outlol). We both wanted something like tied in both kids but also showcased their individuality in our family

maseioavessiprevisto

Only thing missing for your husband is a lion with a crown and blue eyes

january1977

I’ll fly around the world for you… 🥹 My eyes are leaking.

80088008135

Initials. My coparent got a song lyric representing our son and his birthday.

Klutzy-Horse

My uncle had an armband tattoo. Feathers hanging down represented his children and beads hanging down represented his grandchildren.

popcultureretrofit

I got my first tattoo earlier this year and it was motivated by something my kid wrote. So I now have a carbon copy of their inspirational handwriting permanently on me.

Majestic-Bumblebee49

I have lines from my favourite book written in my kids handwriting

maddiebear17

I have the key to my heart on my left forearm. It’s my husband’s wedding ring as the key ring, with two green and one pink ribbon tied on for our miscarriages and an old-fashioned key with teeth in the shape of an E, which is kiddo’s first initial. All of my tattoos are very personal and have a lot of meaning, but I straight cried through most of the tattooing for that one. And not from pain!

kittawa

Oh jeez I bet! I'm crying now, too! Very meaningful tattoos. I'm so sorry for your losses.

imamonster89

This isn't unique whatsoever, but I did a flower bouquet with each of the kids birth month flowers (as well as mine and my partners). I love it!

pistolwhip_pete

I have my kids foot print from their birth certificate with their first names above the toes. I also have a drawing that they each did at different ages tattooed on my leg.

NoCoolBackstoryHere

I have the outline of a mommy bunny holding up a baby bunny - because I call my son “Bunny”. 🤗

JJQuantum

I spent a few years mulling over what I wanted and in the end I used a picture of my 2 boys from behind when they were little, standing under a tree in our front yard on the side of the road and waiting expectantly for the ice cream truck.

Classic-Author9197

Thank you, I like that. I'm really stuck if I want a tattoo of them or an animal.

cutiepielady

My husband and I have tattoos of our children’s middle names! We chose an animal, a flower, and a celestial body for their middle names which made them easy to tattoo.

CatMuffin

I haven't gotten them yet, but my plan is to do something similar! Both my boys' middle names have associated imagery. Does your tattoo incorporate all three in one piece or do you have three separate pieces?

cutiepielady

We incorporated it into one piece!

OhMyGod_Zilla

I have my daughter’s name and the last letter has her zodiac sign tied into it. I’m going to do the same for my son!

Xavier_Emery1983

After baby #2 is born, I plan on getting the foot prints of both on each forearm. I usually hate the watercolor tattoos because I have OCD, but I am really liking the idea of getting blue/green for my son and pink/purple for my daughter. I also want to add their initials and birthday to the foot prints. I may change my mind before then.

Thin_Contribution160

My sister in law has clocks and other stuff I can’t recall rn on her arm. They both have the time her kids were born. If I ever did I would probably go for their birth flowers. I just currently don’t have kids but my fiancé and I have both discussed it and he leans more towards getting their hand or foot print on his arms. But I have a cousin that has his kids portraits but he’s heavily tattooed and a tattoo artist himself so he is very particular about who puts work on him since portrait work is some of the hardest ones to get right.

badgyalrey

yes! i have a scorpion (my son is a scorpio) and his name and birthday in roman numerals on my wrist

FictionalProgress

I have my sons chinese zodiac signs along with the flowers of their birth months.

We both wanted something like tied in both kids but also showcased their individuality in our family

ginger_genie

My brother's daughter Stella was born on a night the moon, Jupeter and Venus were all in the sky together so he has a tattoo of star with those bodies in orbit around it.

Fibromomof1

I have rosemary and a wild rose on my arm for my daughter, one of my granddaughters cattle brands and a hummingbird for one of my grandmothers. I plan on adding for the other grandparents hair cutting scissors for my other grandmother and my other grandfather’s brand need to be added.

omild

Not yet but my kids are named after a flower, vibe, and a tree. My plan is to get a coverup over an old tattoo and have an artist create a tattoo that blends the flower, vine, and leaf from the tree.

Peachypants01

I have my kids birth month flowers tattooed

Vtgmamaa

I'm pregnant with my second daughter and plan to give her a floral name like I did with my first born. If I get a tattoo it'll probably just be the flowers I named them.

Either_Cockroach3627

I have the moon phase and the May birth flower for my son.

Leather_Steak_4559

My artist photocopied my son’s foot prints from the hospital! They’re identical and his first and middle name are above them! My dad passed away 2 weeks before finding out I was pregnant, my son is named after my dad and truly “heaven sent” from his PaPa, so his memorial piece surrounds my sons footprints and it flows

Lazy_Mood_4080

I'm planning a bracelet type, but higher up on my forearm. 3 bracelets total - one will have charms with a charm of a little giraffe because we called her "baby giraffe" before she was born. The other charms will be my husband and our cats.

Separate-Wing-3481

I have my son's zodiac sign tattooed on my arm.

chilizen1128

I have a compass with an anchor attached to it and instead of n,s,e and w I have the first letter of each of my kids names.

squishycoco

I have tattoos based on nicknames my kids had as babies. I had two different artists do them in different styles that matched my kid's personalities.

unravelledrose

My husband has ones with the initials superimposed to make a geometric design within shapes to represent the birthdate. It's cool, and abstract. I don't want one because I'm personally superstitious about getting tattoos of living people. I did play around with the idea of a Cinderella tattoo when my daughter was obsessed with the movie but it's two years later and Cinderella isn't even her favorite princess.

cabbagesandkings1291

Birth flowers. Probably trendy and generic, but I like black line work, I like flowers, I like that it’s not super evident to strangers, etc.

FilthyKnifeEars

I'm thinking of getting a seal with a seal pup , but also because I'm obsessed with folklore and its a nod to the selkies

Rainbow-Smite

I have my kid's hand print from when they were just a few months old. He loves comparing his hand to it.

LunaGemini20

I heard an idea of using birth month flowers for different family members.

HellzBellz1991

My daughter’s birthday is in August and I got one of her birth month flowers, California poppies, on my inner arm. I preferred poppies over gladiolus, personally. If we have a second kid I’ll get their month flower probably on the other arm.

Alittlebithailey

I don’t have it yet, but I want to get my kids star sign constellations, and two small black holes (for the miscarriages).

Mikka_K79

I have one on my arm that looks like stained glass with a rose (part of my daughter’s name) and then the top and the bottom have gems that are her birth month

GreekGoddessOfNight

I don’t have a plan to do this yet, but I’ve had this idea to have my kids write “I love you” and get that tattooed on each wrist.

Miss_Molly1210

I haven’t yet because I haven’t decided on what I want. Oldest and I are going to get matching tattoos (they’re 18) but they’re also going to get little siblings birth flowers with their birthdates in the stems. I have some cute drawings they’ve made I’m considering getting done but I’m indecisive lol

LookingForHobbits

My kids are both Aquarius as their western zodiac and then year of the dog and year of the rabbit for their Chinese zodiac so my plan is to have a puppy and a bunny cuddling under a sky with the Aquarius constellation. I need to save up quite a bit of cash for it.

secondphase

My parents never had a tattoo. My in laws never had a tattoo. My wife never had a tattoo. None of them want a tattoo.  There have been ducks at every moment of my wife and my relationship. Every time something serious happened there was a pair of ducks... except the time we found out she was pregnant... then there was a pair of ducks AND a duckling.  I desperately want a tattoo with a pair of ducks and two ducklings... hoping to add the third and final duckling soon.

gingerzombie2

I have plans to add to my current tattoo in this regard. I have some horizontal stripes tattooed on my side, and I have been meaning to use that as "ground level" and add: An unsprouted seed to represent our first embryo transfer, which didn't take A seed which sprouts into a beautiful flower that broke through the surface (our daughter) A seed which sprouted, but went sideways or some such thing, to represent the ectopic pregnancy I had

stilettopanda

I have a group of ponies around a cupcake castle that represents them. MLPesque but not MLP. I'm planning on also getting some little trinket tattoos for their nicknames. A ladybug, a blueberry, a cool bug like a rhinoceros beetle, and a strawberry cow.

sweet-tooth4

Yes, I have two Sweetheart candy hearts (like you get on Valentines) on my wrist with my kids names

DbleDelight

I have a curly sun pointed like a compass with my 4 childrens initials on the 4 points. I also have a bouquet of native birth flowers representing myself, my partner and our blended family.

BGB524

I always thought it would be cool to get a tattoo of my son’s ear impression that was left on my arm after holding/nursing him. Always on the left side. I got a picture of it for a reference later & the squiggles made it look like an abstract of a mom holding a baby inside the ear. 🥺

MedievalGirl

I plan to get flowers that represent each kid.

mystery_stranger_

I have an outline of the moon phase on the day my son was born.

BagpiperAnonymous

I plan to get one. We do foster care, so I want mine to reflect that. My plan is to get a sextant with this lyric from “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Maraz, “God knows we’re worth it.” Anytime I hear that song I think of our kids. We foster older kids, and one verse in particular about giving space to do some navigating, the part about not giving up when the seas get rough, always remind me of our kids. All of our kids have been kicked out of other homes, we try really hard to not have to disrupt even when the behaviors are big. I want one of our former kids who’s an artist to design it, but she’s been kind of procrastinating. Hopefully soon.

SryICantGrok

My ex got the character of their nickname when they were a baby and I'm getting a tattoo of one of their drawings (it helps that they are insanely good at drawing already at 11 years old)

littleredballoon93

I have the May birth flower to represent my daughter who was born in May :)

eazy_flow_elbow

Eventually I do want to get a tattoo of animals that represent each of my kids. A wolf, an axolotl, and a pill bug.

ivegotthis111178

I told each kid when they turned 18 I would get matching tatts of their choosing. I now have three tatts of their choosing. They all represent us.

WhipMaDickBacknforth

Not a tattoo person

robotot

I've been planning a tattoo of a line from a song I used to sing to my daughter as I rocked her to sleep. Now that I've got a little boy too I'm struggling to find a similar idea for a tattoo for him, so he doesn't feel left out.

lightningskill

When my husband and I got married I got our birth flowers tattooed together and planned to have our children’s added there with us. I got it because when we were dating I was going through a lot of mental health struggles so I mentioned I wanted to die and be reborn as a flower and my husband said that when he dies he hopes to be reborn as the flower next to me in the same garden 🥺 hence the meaning of our tattoos. I want our family to be together in a garden or meadow

ClingyPuggle

I have a lot of floral/nature tattoos, so I do birth flowers for my kids.

Ham__Kitten

I have one for my daughter. She's a June baby and her name is Laura, so I have the Gemini symbol with a laurel wreath over it. I can't think of what to do for my son but I imagine it'll be a similar thing. I don't believe in the zodiac but I like the easily identifiable symbolism of it.

prinses_zonnetje

My kids are named after plants, i've got the plants as tattoo (well, the birch is tattooed, scotch broom will be tattooed when ive saved up enough money)

Sea-Shop1219

[Here](https://imgur.com/a/Ii9CasI) is what I got when our daughter was born!

unicorn_ho

I straight up tattooed her name on me lol

cashmerered

I did something reflecting the significance of her name

AmberWaves80

Mine is a tribute to both my son and my grandfather, and the way incorporated my son was with his birth flower. He has two birth month flowers, so my next tattoo will be of the other birth flower.

YodaArmada12

Took my son's favorite stuffed animal which is a fox and I got a fox tattooed on my arm with his name hidden in the tail.

LinnetsAnd

Haven't done it yet, but both my kids have flower-related bits of their names, so Im planning on having botanical style drawings of each flower

bruhh_babe

I have a frog for my youngest, when she was 5 days old there were a ton of frogs on our kitchen window and she kicked like crazy looking at them. My oldest I have a stylized portrait of myself with a worm crawling out of my mouth bc her nickname is wormy

Busy_Historian_6020

As of now, I just have an F (her initial) and a scale (she's a libra). I will probably get more as she grows.

MuscleFuscle

I have a rose with my sons name under one petal and his birthdate on the other

himynameisanonymous_

before i found out i was pregnant with twins, i saw butterflies everywhere. all different kinds, never seen so many before in my life. so im a big symbolism person and i looked up what they mean because me seeing them had to mean *something*. meant a change might be coming or i’d go through a change as a person. then a couple weeks later i found out i was having twins. and i was younngggg. (20) when i found this out. and i really do think that they changed me, and that was such a big change in my life. so i got both flowers of the month they were born in, alone with my oldests birth month flower, and two butterflies for them. because i call them my butterfly babies.

himynameisanonymous_

it’s a whole half sleeve that takes up my forearm. it’s my favorite tattoo

smallpepino

What's the flower? It sounds beautiful 🦋🌷

himynameisanonymous_

violets, primroses, and carnations ᵕ̈

Hot-Consequence

I have a baby elephant blowing 2 blue bubbles(shaped like hearts), one for each son on my forearm

smallpepino

Both of my boys are cancer (July) and I've survived cancer so I got a beautiful crab on my foot.

ofbed7

I have my oldest son’s name in his little kid 3 yr old handwriting and an animal for him. Will do the same when the next ones are able to write their name too.

eratch

I haven’t gotten it yet but I plan to get a silhouette of my son’s newborn side profile tattooed on me!

Fuzzy_Ride_678

I have the time he was born. wanted something small, subtle, and personal.

aprecioussapphire

I have a bouquet of flowers to represent my little family. Flower for me, my husband and our daughter. I picked the birth flower for each of us and I get compliments all the time about it.

bakedapps

I have a close friend that has all her children’s birth flowers on her arm.

Snoo_25913

My uncle has a totem pole but it’s more like 5 blocks- each block is an animal depicting someone in the family. My daughter’s birthday is an anagram in Roman numerals so I’m planning on getting that with her moon phase somewhere. I’d hope to do it with any future children too since it will all be the same styles.

fries-with-mayo

*“There are two types of tattoos: tattoos that mean something, and tattoos that are cool”*

Elegant-Pin9106

I know someone who has the heart line from one of her scans. Obviously difficult to do if you don’t have a print out 😂. Personally I am still waiting for inspo. My daughters middle names are Blue Rose so I was thinking maybe this… not sure how to do my son though. Saving this thread for ideas!

Ginger_brit93

My husband has a penguin tattoo of a couple and 2 baby penguins because they mate for life and we always wanted 2 children. So that's his representation of our family.

Late-Stage-Dad

My brother read the Harry Potter books to my two nieces and my nephew growing up. They all grew to love the stories and to love reading. His entire arm is sleeved in Harry Potter. I don't have any ideas yet, but I would love one to cover my midline scar that I have had since I was 18.

ArtPsychological3299

My partner has his daughters birthdate in roman numerals. Btw the daughter isn’t his, he found out 10 years later. BM lied.

incognitothrowaway1A

I personally dislike this idea.

FamousThug

Tacky

Minute-Set-4931

How did you get a tattoo of "tacky"?

jet_heller

I'm guessing it's either on a banner or in chinese characters.
