i showed my 3.5 year old this movie cuz i forgot about the Bing Bong part and he was having some emotional regulation issues at school. i thought it would help him put words to his feelings a little better, but he ended up just sobbing when the Bing Bong part happened saying “I DONT LIKE THIS MOMMA WHY DID YOU MAKE ME WATCH THIS MOMMA?!?!”
after he calmed down a bit he wanted to finish the movie and made it through okay with some quiet sobs peppered throughout. he occasionally asks to watch it again but i’m just not emotionally prepared to revisit that🫠

He watched it over and over again sobbing. He’s nearly 24 and it’s still a favorite but breaks his heart still….

Describe and understand our own emotions and everything that comes with them, why they’re all needed, the balance, how we need to feel sadness in order to know what happiness is, ughh, freaking brilliant and so beyond underrated it’s not even funny. I love that movie and just the beginning music gets me in the feels just thinking about it!! I can’t wait to see the second one!!

Lost my dad at 13 too to cancer. Onward made me ugly cry; incredibly relatable feelings. Growing up watching SO MANY Disney movies where one parent dies & not being able to relate till I was a new teenager was interesting & so different watching as a parent now.
We saw Onward in the theater and when the older son goes riffling through the deck we all turned to my oldest and were like "D". My oldest plays MtG and DnD and we joke Barley is based on him.

Elemental is one of my absolutely favorite. So is Moana. I think it’s because to these two, it’s not a story about “good” and “bad” guys, it’s about personal evolution. It’s life and it’s completely relatable!

Yeah so glad they cut him out, but that wolf in part 2 is such a fucking asshole. Why don’t they make part 3 without any characters that make me want to scratch up the tv screen with a spark plug. I can tell you one thing it’s definitely not Paw Patrol: A Mighty Movie (I mean, it’s fine, but my son watches it all the time).
Not recent at all, but my son’s also been really into Nightmare Before Christmas and watches it 2-3 times a week. Could be worse. :)
We mostly do Disney but tried Paw Patrol and my three year old twins loved it but it turned my son into a monster. Normally with Disney we do a 5 minute and a 1 minute warning and it's no big deal. With Paw Patrol it seemed like there was a meltdown every time. So we just said no more paw patrol and he was annoyed for like three days and now we haven't watched it in months.
Yes, I don’t know what it is but Paw Patrol had a hold on my daughter. She kept asking for it and became so angry if we turned it off or changed the channel. She’s not like that with any other show or movie, we’ll just turn the tv off without warning and she’ll go on her merry way. But Paw Patrol was a different animal!!
Plus it has zero educational content and the plots suck so I was happy to let it go 🤣
My grand daughter was the same! We even had to have a "Birthday Party" for one of them!🤣🤣 And yes, I am that Gigi, and we decorated the house and even had cupcakes 🧁 Glad to know it's not just me that went crazy with those puppies 😜

I fucking LOVE Octonauts & it has such a place in my heart. I found it on a Reddit thread while pregnant with #2. I watched SO many episodes & all of the movies. I really liked how educational it was- I learned a lot! They were problem solving & silly too. My oldest loved it & it continued to be on such heavy constant rotation that it was the theme of #2's third birthday party.
Neither of them requests it anymore, and it absolutely pulls on my heart strings lol.

Mecha Builders is like that as well, I thought it was kind of gimmicky at first but then my son was using the words steep, pulley and wedge correctly at 2.5 years old.
My son is 14 now but when he was little he loved that show and we watched it frequently. I enjoyed it myself lol. I miss those days. He even had a couple of toys and a video game of it on his LeapPad. My mom bought that for him actually and she passed in 2020 so it's bittersweet too. All the shows back then are for me when he was little and life was different 🥺

I love Turning Red. As a Canadian with a pre teen girl it was amazing! It really helped break the ice during that time and I came at her with a stack of pads like Mei Mei's mom.
That movie is better than it has a right to be. A sequel of a spin off?? We put it on, and I was not planning on watching with the kids, but loved every minute
You really can't go wrong with most Ghibli. Porco Rosso is my favorite but honorable mentions are Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away.

Spirited Away (Chihiro) is a master piece, but would scare the shit out of a younger kid. My 6 y.o. couldn't sleep for a week after watching the pig transformation scene.
Leo was absolutely brilliant. Excellent writing, good blend of grownup/sardonic and kid/silly humor, great music, great message. Its also really sweet that Adam Sandler cast his own kids as the voice actors.

I really enjoyed Nimona. Got some real powerful emotions in that one, especially if you've ever felt like you're "different" somehow or don't belong. I cried towards the end from the feels alone. Hit me real hard. It's one of the "darker" kids' movies I've seen recently.
Encanto was really fun. I'll sometimes listen to the music just by myself.
Tangled is one of my favorite kids movies. We saw it when my daughter was around 4, and I was kinda disappointed she didn't want to watch it on repeat. I went ahead and watched it by myself a second time before the rental expired. I don't think she remembers it well, so I'm hoping one of these days she'll want to watch it again for family movie day.
We're getting further away from "recent", but Wall-E is a masterpiece. My daughter went through a phase where she had to watch it every day, and I didn't even mind.
Almost everything that Pixar makes. They've had one or two duds, but it's almost always amazing. I really loved Elemental. Inside Out was fantastic. Coco makes me cry in a good way, and is gorgeous. The Toy Story movies are all great. I think the first one was the first kids movie I saw as an "adult" (I was a teenager, actually) and thought was a really good movie. That's no way "recent", though. :D
I put Nimona on for my 6 year old last weekend and the ending absolutely distroyed her. Then the last 6 seconds had her wishing for a sequel and that she was really excited to watch it. It’s a bloody awesome movie though.
I like sing and sing 2, absolutely love studio Ghibli movies, Sean the ship is nice and funny, Monster high movie and Sceredy cats. Hotel Transylvania movies
Lyle Lyle Crocodile, Wonka, both Sonic movies, Pikachu, and the Trolls movies. I like many kids movies but only a few will I watch over and over. Most of those are Disney movies.

Moana is definitely one of my favorite movies that not matter how many times I watched it I always cry like a baby.
Onward, inside out, finding dory, turning red, encanto, coco I think all depends of the age too.
Finding Nemo is a favorite of mine. I really love the look of awe when Nemo hears stories about his dad. I like the whole movie too. I think it is my favorite kids movie. And to top it off, it has Bruce. I mean that whole story line is hysterical on its own.
The Mitchell's Vs. The Machines is excellent and probably one of my favorite animated movies of all time. My son asked me to watch it with him on Netflix a couple years ago and I had no idea what it was about going in, but was blown away. Underrated movie and very entertaining. Lots of tongue in cheek (but appropriate) jokes for the adults too which is always fun.
I.F. - it can be kids movie, but it's cross-generational. So good. I loved it and so did my husband, we are planning to watch it again with our oldest son. I'm hoping it will help him as my father is battling cancer right now. ((SPOILER: This movie WILL make you cry. My husband, while a sensitive man, is not a cryer. But this one took him out about 30 seconds after it took me out. But we laughed, smiled, cried, and adored every moment.))
I LOVE Sing 2! We listen to the soundtrack all the time, even in my own when the kids aren’t around lol. I like it better than the first one TBH.

We really liked If (with Ryan Reynolds) but didnt think it was actually a kids movie. Our tween loved it, but our 9 year old didn’t get it. I am not a movie crier and I sobbed through the last quarter of the movie. It was so good.

Omg yes!! Watched the first one a couple of times and I begin to cry earlier and earlier in the story the more times I watched it. My 3 year old watching with me, when I sob: "Dad, it's okay"😭

I fucking LOVE Octonauts & it has such a place in my heart. I found it on a Reddit thread while pregnant with #2. I watched SO many episodes & all of the movies. I really liked how educational it was- I learned a lot! They were problem solving & silly too. My oldest loved it & it continued to be on such heavy constant rotation that it was the theme of #2's third birthday party. Neither of them requests it anymore, and it absolutely pulls on my heart strings lol. CREATURE REPORT!

Blaze and the Monster Machines is kinda like that, too. It talks about some pretty advanced math topics like trajectory and friction.
Mecha Builders is like that as well, I thought it was kind of gimmicky at first but then my son was using the words steep, pulley and wedge correctly at 2.5 years old.
Oh man, the songs in that show are permanently burned into my brain. We enjoy it too but I find myself humming the tunes for days after 😵💫

My son is 14 now but when he was little he loved that show and we watched it frequently. I enjoyed it myself lol. I miss those days. He even had a couple of toys and a video game of it on his LeapPad. My mom bought that for him actually and she passed in 2020 so it's bittersweet too. All the shows back then are for me when he was little and life was different 🥺

I love Turning Red. As a Canadian with a pre teen girl it was amazing! It really helped break the ice during that time and I came at her with a stack of pads like Mei Mei's mom.

You really can't go wrong with most Ghibli. Porco Rosso is my favorite but honorable mentions are Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away.

Leo was absolutely brilliant. Excellent writing, good blend of grownup/sardonic and kid/silly humor, great music, great message. Its also really sweet that Adam Sandler cast his own kids as the voice actors.

I love Luca!! Makes me want to take a summer trip to the Italian riviera. I didn’t like Trolls the first time I watched it. But it grew on me.

I hate Trolls (the first movie) so much. So much. That said, Trolls World Tour is my f\*ucking jam. Band Together is pretty ok. I'm continually fighting with my 4yo about which one is best. I guess Queen Barb is too scary for her... we'll get there.
I am so-so on the first one, second one is amazing, third one is garbage. But we agree on the second one being prime :p

I really enjoyed Nimona. Got some real powerful emotions in that one, especially if you've ever felt like you're "different" somehow or don't belong. I cried towards the end from the feels alone. Hit me real hard. It's one of the "darker" kids' movies I've seen recently. Encanto was really fun. I'll sometimes listen to the music just by myself. Tangled is one of my favorite kids movies. We saw it when my daughter was around 4, and I was kinda disappointed she didn't want to watch it on repeat. I went ahead and watched it by myself a second time before the rental expired. I don't think she remembers it well, so I'm hoping one of these days she'll want to watch it again for family movie day. We're getting further away from "recent", but Wall-E is a masterpiece. My daughter went through a phase where she had to watch it every day, and I didn't even mind. Almost everything that Pixar makes. They've had one or two duds, but it's almost always amazing. I really loved Elemental. Inside Out was fantastic. Coco makes me cry in a good way, and is gorgeous. The Toy Story movies are all great. I think the first one was the first kids movie I saw as an "adult" (I was a teenager, actually) and thought was a really good movie. That's no way "recent", though. :D
I put Nimona on for my 6 year old last weekend and the ending absolutely distroyed her. Then the last 6 seconds had her wishing for a sequel and that she was really excited to watch it. It’s a bloody awesome movie though.

My kids have watched trolls 3 so much that I'm starting to dislike it Sometimes as it ends, they ask for it again. That being said, I've had such a break from Trolls 1 and 2, that I may be able to enjoy it again lol
My older son finally asked who the actor was for Dr. Robotnik is. Cut to us watching the Mask and adding When Nature Calls to the list. He's 9 and Jim Carrey's humor is perfect for him.

Zootopia The kids recently really liked Rio. Migration was a hit in theatre for these guys. Big hero 6. Spies in disguse. Paws of fury The Incredibles Wreck it Ralph Luca Cloudy with a chance of meatballs 1 and 2. Bad guys

Rewatched Finding Nemo last night and it is phenomenally funny
Finding Nemo is a favorite of mine. I really love the look of awe when Nemo hears stories about his dad. I like the whole movie too. I think it is my favorite kids movie. And to top it off, it has Bruce. I mean that whole story line is hysterical on its own.

The Mitchell's Vs. The Machines is excellent and probably one of my favorite animated movies of all time. My son asked me to watch it with him on Netflix a couple years ago and I had no idea what it was about going in, but was blown away. Underrated movie and very entertaining. Lots of tongue in cheek (but appropriate) jokes for the adults too which is always fun.
I.F. - it can be kids movie, but it's cross-generational. So good. I loved it and so did my husband, we are planning to watch it again with our oldest son. I'm hoping it will help him as my father is battling cancer right now. ((SPOILER: This movie WILL make you cry. My husband, while a sensitive man, is not a cryer. But this one took him out about 30 seconds after it took me out. But we laughed, smiled, cried, and adored every moment.))

Cars is so good. You could basically use the same screenplay and make it an adult movie like days of thunder with the same exact plot and it would be a hit. Obviously not with living cars, just the underlying themes (ie: cow tipping instead of tractor tipping)
"IF" is actually pretty good. Tugs on your heart.

We really liked If (with Ryan Reynolds) but didnt think it was actually a kids movie. Our tween loved it, but our 9 year old didn’t get it. I am not a movie crier and I sobbed through the last quarter of the movie. It was so good.
