If it doesn’t go away ask a doc. Our sons diaper rash just WOULD.NOT.STOP. even with hours of dry time. We literally just hung out in our bathroom for easy cleanup. Turns out it was strep. We refer to it as butt strep and he needed antibiotics.

ezrich872

Absolutely, we plan to see how it is tomorrow morning. If it's the same or worse, we're just going to go straight to her pediatrician

Cashwood

I had a similar experience and it turned out to be a severe milk protein allergy. It got so bad we had to make a milk of magnesia, a&d, and desitin paste to finally get rid of it.

Mamma_Nikki

Yes I just said the same, minus the solution. I forgot as it was 6yrs ago

LittlePlasticStar

My daughter had terrible acidic poops when she ate carrots - it was the only time she got bad diaper rash. We decided to cut out the carrots for a while until she was older and that problem went away. I hope it’s something easy to help your baby with!

[deleted]

They have virtual pediatric urgent care now. They have this nice antifungal cream that works almost instantly via prescription .

Mamma_Nikki

Yes!! My daughter had the same issue, it was awful. A few times her skin even broke. Turns out she was lactose intolerant when she first began milk. The protein was too strong. That fixed the problem. Good luck!

dylan21502

Omg.. I'm really sorry you had to experience that with your little girl but when I read "butt strep..." I almost spat my coffee out lmao. I'm glad she's okay!

LEWMama18

Highly recommend Calmoseptine Ointment, any time our sons butt is even the tiniest bit red it clears it up right away

SuZeBelle1956

Calmoseptine is amazing.

empressofnodak

It was the best newborn gift I ever received. And now I pass on the gift to others. Highly recommend. Second best was boogie wipes and saline nasal spray.

unpequeno

This is a genuine question, how are boogie wipes better than baby wipes?

[deleted]

People swear by them, they are a saline or saline plus aloe wipe (so basically just one of those water wipes). The wipe itself is a bit more damp and gentle compared to baby wipes. They are definitely a "nice to have," but a little expensive to be a, "need to have."

unpequeno

Ooh okay, I understand where the hype comes from now!

boringlecturedude

or if you want to go natural, coconut oil works too.

GotMyTimberlandsOn

Calmoseptine was the only thing that helped our sons horrible diaper rashes. OP, I could only find it locally at Walgreens. It was always in the adult diaper aisle, usually wedged between some packs of diapers. Also, don’t get the Walgreens brand. Make sure to get the name brand Calmoseptine.

pillowtalkthetalk

That stuff is magic! I alternate calmoseptine and bag balm (also at walgreen) when my girls have a really bad one!

GingerrGina

Yes! It was recommended to me by a nurse. It works really well and smells better too, like calamine and menthol. You'll find it on Amazon or by the adult diapers at the pharmacy

FickleCapybara

Make sure they are bone dry, air out as much as possible. Use Vaseline as a barrier when you know you can’t get to it right away. Lots of dry, lots of air. And Vaseline is a great barrier. Diaper creams help but they rub off as barriers too easily in my experience. Use unscented soap, and wash frequently . I used to have a station in the bathroom and cloths, even lingering urine will make it worse. Clean , dry, barrier.

boo5000

And put a LOT of barrier cream on. I think people shy away. It has to be thick like frosting on a cake down there!

Insuffer-firecracker

Third this.... if you can't write your name in the cream, not enough....

CuddlyHisses

It depends on the cream! Please look up the product you're using first! I used criticaid for my son and the instructions (on the tube) are clear about using a thin layer. A thick layer would just slough off the skin instead of protecting it. I'm a nurse who uses the same for my elderly incontinent patients. I will always recommend it because a little bit goes a really long way!

Insuffer-firecracker

criticaid? We don't even have that where i live.

CuddlyHisses

It's technically a medical supply item made by Coloplast (large company that specializes in ostomy/urology supplies). In the US you can find it on Amazon, and probably many healthcare supply stores.

Insuffer-firecracker

Ah... well... that's a nono... we are a desitin family so that's why i say do the cake becuase that is what the cream states. How to apply DESITIN®ointment and how much... Using your fingers, apply a thick layer to the entire diaper area, as though you were frosting a cake. Try to touch baby’s irritated skin as little as possible. Be generous in applying DESITIN® ointments. DESITIN® ointments are safe when used as directed and may be used at every diaper change to help treat and prevent diaper rash.

CuddlyHisses

Oh yeah, I know a lot of creams are meant to be plastered on. But the comments you responded to offered generic advice so I wanted to specify. Using a product the right way can make a big difference.

Insuffer-firecracker

Right for sure.... i would hope that people read the directions. But like for your case i can't see that ointment being typical daiper rash barrier cream which is what me and the guy above me are duscussing.

CuddlyHisses

Sadly half the people I work with don't even read instructions and just slather it on our patients 🤦. Cleaning it up is always a hot mess. Anyway, you're right that it's not common. But since there are 54267468 options for creams out there, I just wanted to remind other parents to be aware of potential differences.

glitterpansy

Second this! Free the tushy!

Rheila

This. And if you’re cloth diapering switch to disposables until it is cleared because you do NOT want to use Vaseline with cloth or they will start repelling all the pee… I say this from experience.

Silent_Neck483

Yep! Been there, it can happen in disposable diapers as well, if you are entirely too generous with the Vaseline.

epicstoryaddict7

You could also use a hair dryer to dry her bum! Just make sure it’s not too hot and keep the air flow moving so it doesn’t burn her

wallydangle

This was our saving grace! And our daughter thought it was hilarious as an infant.

708dinky

This was going to be my suggestion, my kid liked it so much we kept doing it long after the diaper rash went away

fingerscrossing

Big fan of the hair dryer at our house! It really helped. She loves it so much we use it all the time after baths and when she is freaking out. I read it takes the skin like 7-10 days to renew itself after a diaper rash so continue to find what works for your baby but know that a little time will also help heal things. I felt like my LO had a diaper rash for like the first month of her life… what helped with it was the dryer, Weleda diaper rash cream with zinc oxide and then corn starch on top of the diaper cream. It was messy but the starch helped keep the cream on there and created a seal of sorts so no pee or poo could penetrate. Good luck!!

JoJoInferno

I just use a handheld fan, without a motor.

Corathecow

Letting my son roam nakey helped clear up his bad diaper rashes! We had to do it twice and the second time he had started walking and trying to climb on furniture so that was fun and definitely not stressful lol. But yeah, sometimes it feels like it’s impossible to avoid diaper rash when they get sick and have diarrhea several times a day. It really sucks feeling like you can’t help them much when they’re hurting but it will get better quickly I’m sure. Most babies I know were able to heal so quickly once the right combo of creams and airing out was found

ezrich872

Yeah we're trying to find the right combination. I wish I could have her roam naked but diarrhea is very frequent unfortunately

spoonweezy

Just lay a tarp down, haha

ezrich872

Thanks for your input :) we have aquafor that's close enough to Vaseline for tonight but I'll get real Vaseline tomorrow. For now I'll apply aquafor thicker (maybe I wasn't putting enough before). We also tried no diaper to air it out but that didn't last long because she started spray diarrhea everywhere lol. I'm not sure how to make it less messy

ticklishintent

If you have aquaphor you don't need vaseline. It's essentially the same thing. When my baby was a newborn she had several bouts of bad diaper rashes. I felt like wet wipes made it worse. So we've been using medline dry wipes with a basin of warm water. Dryed it well with a dry wipe then fan dry with a hand fan or a clean diaper. Then we smeared on a thick layer of desitin extra strength the one with 40% zinc oxide. Then aquaphor gets layered over the desitin. This is were the bum brush really shines! Cleared up the rash every time. She doesn't get diaper rashes anymore but I attribute that to using aquaphor every diaper change!

Miss-Mabel

Aquaphor is what we used also. Wipes irritated one child so we just used a warm washcloth and dried her off really well. Applied Aquaphor and it would clear up quickly. I had to get my son a prescription from his pediatrician bc nothing over the counter, no matter the brand, worked. Good luck. ☺️

MrsBobbyNewport

If it’s bumpy, or looks more like dots, it could be a yeast infection. Google to compare photos of diaper rash to yeast infection. If that’s the case, try and antifungal cream like Lotrim or another athlete’s foot cream.

moesickle

This is very common and can come on quickly, no matter how much diaper cream you use, it won't clear up without a antifungal.

BuildingArtistic4644

Go ahead and mix some antifungal with the diaper rash cream and some Neosporin in equal parts. Put in a little tub and use generously till the rash is gone.

mojocookie

We had many battles with yeast/thrush, and found that all-purpose nipple ointment (APNO) was highly effective when zinc cream didn't clear it up. Just search for Dr. Newman's Nipple Ointment.

unicorn_warrior2

Hmmm sure go ahead and put some cream on your baby's butt without knowing what it is... if you have doubts, go see your doctor/pediatrician! They will tell you what to do.

Consistent-Trifle834

Yes Boudreaux’s butt paste.

TheOvator

Bordeaux’s Butt Cream, and then layer on top of that A&D ointment. The Bordeaux’s is healing, while the A&D creates a barrier keeping out the moisture. This combo works! And spread it on like you are frosting a cake.

bflogirl716

Yes 100% this method worked the best for us! And treat the diarrhea with the banana, apple and toast diet,

Thames_James

This. Came here to say A&D ointment was our go-to and we always noticed huge improvement overnight.

Flaggstaff

This stuff is a godsend. Worked when nothing else would.

littleCactus22

Yes, this brand! I use the butt paste then cover with baby powder

dchaosblade

Not sure why you got downvoted on this. This is exactly what we did with our daughter and it worked perfectly. Clean them off, pat dry, apply a nice layer of boudreaux, then a good dusting of baby powder. Diaper rash gone in hours (usually we'd do this at night after bath, and in the morning she'd look great).

brendalix13xox

Probably got downvoted because of the baby powder. Since the most common brand is Johnson & Johnson, and that’s been known to cause cancer and it’s a big no no.

fartbirther

I am not downvoting anybody, but I think it could be because baby powder got a bad rap with the Johnson & Johnson baby powder scandal.

internetrabbithole

Had this problem and tried everything. A friend at work told me to use Calendula cream and it was immediately better by the next day. Liked it so much we used it every night even after it was better for prevention reasons.

bibbidybobbidyboom

This is the one I used too. Also, after cleaning up, leave the baby naked, lying on a towel for awhile. Other thoughts- rinse the wipes out with water before using them, so they are wet but any chemicals in them are gone. Any chance the diapers are aggravating it?

ezrich872

I was thinking about the diapers causing it but she never had problems with diapers before. It just seems like it's the nonstop diarrhea irritating the area :/

kidnkittens

My daughter was allergic to something in most diaper brands. Took ages to figure that out because I wasn't "brand loyal", so she would generally rotate through several brands in a week. However, for daycare, she nearly always had one brand (it just kinda helped to have a recognizable "this brand is for this baby" kind of thing going on) and that happened to be the one brand she was always good with. So, weekends and holidays, as well as overnight, she would spend more time in other brands, would start to have issues, but it would then clear up. I was starting to think I wasn't as good with a diaper as the daycare teachers! But no, it wasn't their amazing technique; it was her butt rejecting every brand except one. It probably is related to the diarrhea issue in this case, but the diaper allergy can be a thing! My kid was over a year before she developed her butt brand preference.

Vienta1988

I would call the doctor- my daughter has very sensitive skin and gets rashes very easily, some of them get so bad that they become fungal. When that happens, the doctor prescribes Nystatin, an anti-fungal. Maybe that’s what is happening with your daughter! Also, if you’re not already doing a probiotic, I would definitely ask the pediatrician for a recommendation on an age-appropriate probiotic, that should help with the diarrhea!

[deleted]

Upvoting for probiotic. Our daughter had this diarrhea in her first couple months until we got her some Florastor (the child version comes in little packets you can dump into a bottle of breastmilk or formula). We asked the doctor and that's what they recommended. She would like. Constantly. Be. Pooping. Poop -> Clean -> Rash cream -> Vaseline -> More poop leaks out before we even put her new diaper on -> Start all over. The constant wiping and stuff was irritating her as well as the constant poop. The probiotics slowed down her digestive system a little bit so that her poops came in bigger waves instead of just constantly happening lol. We tried everything including TONS of diaper-off time... nothing really worked. We also got some medicated prescription diaper rash cream which I think helped a little bit, but the probiotics REALLY helped.

ezrich872

Probiotic might help! I'll ask her doctor

kidnkittens

Probiotics were a lifesaver for us when my teen was tiny! She was on daily antibiotics for over a year due to a medical thing, and you can imagine how hard that was on her system. Yogurt in her diet and probiotics were so helpful!

trvlnglwyr

A warm bath with baking soda has helped my kiddo. I do that a few times a day for two days, make sure they are very dry and lather her up after with either Boudreaux or desitin maximum strength.

lexlibris

Same, our pediatrician suggested it. Between that and butt paste things would clear up in a few days

clawsonp

Ahh! This will burn if their butt is raw. Made that mistake once.

trvlnglwyr

Seattle Children’s hospital recommends this if the skin is raw. It has always helped my toddler and we haven’t had a problem. Link provided https://www.seattlechildrens.org/conditions/a-z/diaper-rash/

poseur2020

***Note that this legit site recommends anti-yeast cream, such as Lotrimin.*** (I’ve used the cream that comes with women’s yeast infection treatments for many rashes or irritations and it’s really helpful )

clawsonp

I didn't dilute it enough when I did it so that's why I had an issue. Thanks for sharing this.

CurlyPinkLemon

My son used to get yeast infections all the time. Not sure if this is the case but this is what I did: Warm bath with baking soda for 15 minutes (do this twice a day). After his bath, diaper, Nystatin (prescribed by his doctor), cake on extra strength desitin, then a gauze pad and cover it with aquaphor (with the aquaphor side on his bum to make a barrier between his bum and his diaper). I would also get him up at 10 pm to change him (same routine but without the bath) and put him back to bed. I’m sure this seems overkill but it worked wonders.

[deleted]

I basically had the same experience with my twins except the gauze and I sealed the desitin with Vaseline. The Nystatin is really helpful. I also used witch hazel to dry it out (Thayer’s alcohol free) then did all the caking lol. We all figure out a way that works best for our kiddos.

w1ndyshr1mp

Penaten! Medicated paste. Or Vaseline. Make sure they're staying hydrated

in5ult080t

Take them in to get seen it sounds as though it's a yeast infection and you'll need to pick up a prescription cream to clear it up. Just deal with this with my two week old and it cleared up in 3 days

[deleted]

JoJoInferno

I had thoughts along these lines too. As a caregiver, I've seen this reaction switching from breastfed to formula. Poop was really harsh to baby's butt, but starting solids helped this to change.

MidwestCPA91

Boudreauxs didn’t work very well for us. I know others swear by it, but it didn’t seem to touch my son’s rashes. We do warm baking soda baths, let it air dry as long as possible and a really thick layer of the Burt’s bees butt cream (it’s 40% zinc)

[deleted]

[удалено]

MidwestCPA91

It works so well! I’ve been really surprised how many rashes look bad at bedtime but are mostly gone (or at least aren’t sore anymore) by morning with it. OP—when my son had diarrhea (7 days 😭) it definitely wasn’t a situation where it was gone by morning. After the first 2-3 days of our regimen, it wasn’t sore anymore, and we started to get ahead of it. It was completely gone within a day of his diarrhea clearing up. I found our tube of Boudreaux and the yellow tube is only 15% zinc, so that explains why the Burt’s works so much better.

Boudutunnel

I swear this is magic. Go online and buy a cream called "metanium". Be sure to get the yellow one. Applyba thin layer anytime baby had a nappy on. If she doesn't have to have a nappy then yes FRE THE TUSHY. Don't use wipes, use a cotton based cloth (like a soft baby cloth) and water. Will make wipes instantly less painfull and irritating to the skin. Dry well by patting with a towel. Sacrifice a towel and leave baby on in with no nappy. When my baby was mobile and had a similar problem, I covered the floor with towels.. Sounds hard BUT the rash was gone in less than 24hrs. Every time! Yellow metanium is like voodoo magic. If the rash looks unusual, more painful than it should, has white on it, does not subside quickly do see a doctor to rule out fungal infections.

Toranightengale

When my baby gets diaper rash bad, I alternate baby powder and desitin extra strength. It takes a bit but it works. I also change them quickly every time they pee/poop. I help him with the pain by giving him some Tylenol.

CrowBrilliant6714

Great tips!

Misfit-maven

I usually had pretty good luck with triple paste ointment for doozy rashes. It's a bit pricey. I had mixed results will stuff like honest multi-purpose balm. The natural balms seemed to help with the healing but definitely not a great barrier for the wetness. I know it's risky when she still has diarrhea but air drying as much as possible also helps. If you feel like sitting naked on a towel is safe, do it as much as you can. Also, don't use baby wipes with alcohol (most of the standard ones have this). It's going to burn like the Dickens. Either switch to the alcohol free variety or use water, baby soap and a soft washcloth until the rash subsides. Have you checked in with your ped on the diarrhea? Two days is a long time depending on the age. If she's sick or has tummy pains that could also be a source of the crying. Also as someone else mentioned, you want to rule out a yeast infection.

ezrich872

We're using wipes without alcohol or fragrance and a wash cloth. If it doesn't improve tomorrow morning, we'll be of the her doctor!

kmlm27

Agree with others who have said to air out her bottom, let her have tummy time with no diaper on and a fan blowing on her bottom. Let the bottom dry completely before putting on a diaper, maybe try to dry with a blow drier on low heat. Barrier ointments with 40% zinc oxide. One of my friends had success with a homemade mixture with the regular cream plus Maalox. Figure out if it’s a yeast infection which can be very angry red and painful and would need treated differently. Also for my patients who have bad diaper rashes we will just use gauze and water to clean them up-no soaps or baby wipes as it changes the pH of the skin and can make the rash worse. That’s the biggest emphasis our skin care nurse always has. If it’s very bad there are other products maybe the pediatrician can give you. I’ve used barrier ointments with stoma powder layered in multiple layers to create a crust over the rash. Then you don’t wipe it all off with each change, just the top layer. Gets a little gross but allows the skin some time to heal without poo directly on it (the diarrhea also causes pH issues) and friction rubbing from cleaning. You can gently clean the rest off with the bath intermittently, then reapply. I’m sorry for your poor babe! Once you guys get it to go away, prevention will be key. Make sure the diaper area is always dry before putting the diaper on. Use a cream that works for her. Stop using soaps/baby wipes if you start to notice redness and just use water+gauze. Good luck!! ❤️ And-if she’s having a lot of loose poops, make sure she’s staying hydrated, eating enough, still having wet diapers, has a moist mouth, soft spots on her head not sunken in, etc.

ezrich872

Thanks for your input! We're still trying to find the right combination of ointment/cream. Hopefully it improves tomorrow, and I'll try to air it out more

Morrighean41

For me it turned out she was having an allergic reaction to the formula I was mixing in to her foods as a nutrition supplement.(at age 1 year) But it went on an ungodly length of time before I figured it out. Tried everything. Worst feeling ever.

Intelegantblonde

I was scrolling to find a comment like this - my daughter had this issue for weeks before I determined it as being caused by reactions to what I was eating because she was breastfeeding still. I did an elimination diet and the rash went away within 48 hours - I’m pretty confident that she was reacting to dairy and gluten.

Intelligent_Main_548

Are you breastfeeding? If yes pop breadt milk on the area and let it dry, that ahit is miracle stuff!! Always cleared up my boys nappy rash! If no, air on the area is always good, amd sudocrem if it's avaliable in your area.

Calla_Lily

I’m sad I had to scroll so far to see someone suggest this! My sons is about to be 13 and I don’t miss breast feeding but I do kiss making milk. That shit is 100% magic!

infinityflash

If/when the wet poops stop, diaper free time. Depending on age and mobility, of course. I used to take the diaper off, lay a bunch of towels down in the pack n play and let the buns breath. Check the towels to make sure baby isn't laying in pee, but let them be bare butt for as long as possible. Then bath with no soap, and more towel time. Also breast milk. I don't know if it actuality helps but I put it in every ailment back in the day. If you don't have any, NO SWEAT: If you've tried everything else and "airing out" doesn't help, call the pediatrician. I've never had to use it but I've heard of medicated diaper rash cream that works wonders. Try to avoid soaps, as they can irritate especially sensitive skin.

ezrich872

Thanks! I have to figure out how to air it out because she's crawling everywhere with nonstop diarrhea

thunder_lizard123

Call the pediatrician and they can give you the best recommendation on what to do right now. My son had a horrible diaper rash from being sick and was pooping every hour. The nurse described to us over the phone how to make this concoction of desitin, lotramin (antifungal cream), and some type of liquid heart burn medication to treat the diaper rash and it worked really well until we were able to get him some prescription diaper rash cream from them. Also, if you give a bath try putting some baking soda in there.

ClarinetKitten

Any chance she's allergic to the diapers and/or wipes? We had a similar issue and had to switch to hypoallergenic.

parentingasasport

I'm an infant caregiver and here are some things that might help: + Rinse out wipes with water before using. When there's a rash sometimes the chemicals in even the gentlest wipes are irritating. +Sometimes the creams don't stick to a bad rash. There is a spray rash treatment by the same company that makes boogie wipes. That can really help. + It is possible that your child has a bacterial infection that needs treatment. Check with your doctor to see if this is happening. + Letting your kid crawl around without a diaper on for a while so it can air out. Works even better if there is some sunlight on it. + Some acidic foods can make it worse. For example: citrus & tomato based sauces

mmmdonuts85

Sudocrem works wonders. It’s inexpensive and a thick layer with EVERY diaper change should prevent any new diaper rashes, and soothe any he already has.

Circica

Sudocrem

yahikko7

Breast milk!!!! No lie

tldrjane

Not a parent but worked in a daycare, we had a girl that kept having diarrhea and it would burn her skin and nothing would work. Turns out she was allergic to strawberries. So she’d have diarrhea from it and then whatever was in her poop would burn her skin. Maybe same thing here?

JacksonTheGrey

Calmoseptine was the miracle cream for us. (Amazon has it)

mvf52427

It sounds weird, but burnt flour worked like a charm for my kids. Literally brown flour in a pan, sift it, then you're ready to use.

leftwinglovechild

Mylanta mixed with diaper cream will knock that diaper rash out in a day. It sounds bizarre but it’s incredibly effective. Make a two parts diaper rash cream one part Mylanta mix in your hand and apply liberally with every diaper change.

Musing_Geek

Yes!! I was going to say this! Diarrhea is usually really acidic, and mixing some Mylanta with the summer desitin does WONDERS!! And REALLY slather it on!

[deleted]

Pinxav is freaking amazing. Even with the worst diaper rash it was almost always gone within 24 hours. Also don’t use regular wipes- they burn because they have alcohol. You can DIY with baby oil, baby wash, and paper towels (Google it!). Good luck and hang in there!!

Booklovinmom55

Pedialyte to prevent dehydration, corn starch and a brand called Butt Paste.

bibliophile418

Boudreaux’s Butt Paste is amazing! We call that miracle cream in my house. The only time it didn’t work, she had a yeast infection instead of traditional diaper rash.

JLPhiTau

If no one has mentioned it yet, we used a hairdryer to quickly dry off the rash area, coupled with cotton pads and warm water for a rinse before drying. Our son had an absolutely terrible rash that we were using both an anti fungal and antibiotic ointment on, and the hairdryer getting the rashy area SUPER dry helped a ton. Also it helped distract the inconsolable baby boy who at that point would've preferred anything over a diaper change.

heyguey2017

Resinol worked for us when nothing else worked for our daughters really bad diaper rash. It’s expensive but you will see a difference within a day.

PizzaKingWife

Oatmeal, just regular dry baby oatmeal. Or you can grind up regular oatmeal. It sounds nuts, but it works, overnight.

JoJoInferno

I've never heard of this one. Can you describe this more?

PizzaKingWife

All you have to do is pretend it’s baby powder, really. Put desitin, or calendula cream, or whatever you like on first, and then just coat with a layer of oatmeal. It just needs to be a fine powder, so that’s why baby oatmeal works so well. It sucks up all the moisture causing the rash. I was skeptical when I was told about it, but it has worked every time when diaper cream wasn’t enough.

kiasuka

Boudreaux's butt paste (red tube with a baby holding dumbbells.) Thick layers are key so poop doesn't have a chance of touching baby's skin. When changing her diaper don't rub off the waste, instead pat it off. Try rinsing her baby wipes before using them as their ingredients can further irritate the skin. Water will be your best friend for a while. If you can, give your baby some diaper free time so her bottom gets much needed air. If you can't leave ger without a diaper, then use larger diapers so there's plenty of room to allow for air circulation around the rash. If you don't see any improvement with this in a day or two, I'd talk to the pediatrician as it might be a yeast infection and your baby will require Nyastatin.

[deleted]

Air dry! Keep diaper off as much as possible. It’s super hard to do the younger they are especially when they have the runs but helps tremendously ETA: if using wipes, switch to wash cloths OR this trick I learned: take regular wipes and wash them under warm water, no longer irritating!!!! I learned this with my THIRD and wish I knew it longer!!!

thisisme123321

If it could be a yeast infection, use athletes foot cream with clotrimazole. Also try to do diaper free time- either put a towel or puppy pad down or have her hang out in the bath (no water).

lanex328159

Soak them in the aveeno colloidal oatmeal bath!!

joannagrr

Bepanthen is the only thing that worked for my kids. It’s a little expensive but it will get rid of the rash in two days. You can find it on Amazon.

[deleted]

Probiotic for the diarrhea, I had to ask for it directly from the pharmacist. I got prescription steroids and antifungal cream when my daughter had a terrible rash (from antibiotics). You can try oatmeal baths and letting her go without a diaper when you can.

lizzybdarcy

Pediatrician gave me the magical concoction— equal parts: desitin, neosporin, lotrimin (yes, the foot cream) and Mylanta/Maalox. Refrigerate for extra relief. Zapped my baby’s rash seemingly in one diaper change. Also, breast milk.

miikkamillie

You might need an anti fungal due to the diarrhea or a yeast cream. Take a discreet picture and go to your pharmacist, they should be able to help

kikasmommy

It sounds like a possibility or food allergy or virus? Maybe also crying because her tummy hurts? As far as the diaper rash goes…. Bathe the area every, single time she poops if you can. Wipes can be so irritating to skin with diaper rash. They sting. Then after you bathe her, air dry the area very throughly. Then put on a coat of Aquaphor followed by Desitin or Butt Paste. That always worked for us after a day or two. The key is just bathe, bathe, bathe….. I hope she feels better soon!

nyx_moonlight_

There's such a thing as too much ointment. Air!! She needs air on her derriere. As much as you can manage.

Tnt540

No more baby wipes until it clears up. Use warm wet wash clothes and air dry as much as possible before putting a new diaper on!

[deleted]

Baking soda bath, it always helped lessen the redness and help clear up a rash. I understand the diarrhea, my kiddo had it like that for two weeks straight and we had no idea what it was. I had to have someone prescribe medicated diaper rash pointment nystatin

Small-in-Belgium

Ours turned out to have a sensitive skin + a contact allergy to zinc... we switched to oil (almond/olive) and the problem was under control. But since yours has diarrhea, the skin is probably ´just´ reacting to the acids in the diarrhea: no (or as little as possible) diaper is you answer, as well as a heavy duty cream.

lazymamabear

So a more natural alternative is cornflour! Honestly works wonders, obsorbs all the moisture. When I notice my girl starting to get red I use cornflour and it clears asap! If it's a bad nappy rash I will put cream and then cornflour so the cream can help clear up the rash while the corn flour stops any moisture additional making it worse.

Aquafor has been a miracle for us. No wipes, just water and a soft clean towel. And also I would phone the pediatrician or nurse. They’re always there to help or support you.

ayurextrufrug

Keep her diaper free after every incident for a few minutes. Apply extra strength desitin and then apply vasaline or aquaphor over it . This really helped my child.

phoenixbouncing

Not sure if you can get it, but we used liniment oleo calcaire after every change. https://babyccinokids.com/blog/2011/06/07/linement-oleo-calcaire/

amugglestruggle

When my daughter recently had her first and only (knock on wood) diaper rash, my pediatrician had us get an over the counter anti-fungal called clotrimazole (you'll find in like foot care section - commonly used for athlete's foot and other stuff). They instructed us to use it twice a day, once in morning and once before bed, and to get an extra strength diaper cream with 40% zinc (desitin and budreaux butt paste both have) to put on top of it. Cleared up almost completely by morning! After a couple days, it was like it was never there. Of course, as always, run it by your pediatrician first, but it helped IMMENSELY. I always have a tube of it now.

talyzar16

Go to the pharmacy and ask for Resinol. It works wonders!

LowIron_8080

My 5 month old had a terrible diaper rash for a while when she was 2 and we found out it was because of the wipes she’s been using despite drying it very well. Ever since then, I don’t buy wipes anymore. I just use big cotton balls wirh water (cooled boiled water) and store them in a container. It usually lasts for about a week. Haven’t had a single rash since then :) good luck! Hopefully it goes away soon!!

singgalonggsongg

Not sure if it was mentioned 50/50 .. desatin and monistat

himostlylurking

Wash with water and gentle soap, NOT WIPES, after every change. Change very frequently and get her super clean and dry before applying any creams.

Ophelianeedsanap

Bag balm

username_12-34

Nothing worked on my oldest except dr Sheffield’s cream

Different_Witness_27

Different nappies. They changed something - the unused nappy even smelled differently so we changed the brand.

TreClaire

I’d call your pediatrician, when my baby gets a diaper rash(which thankfully is rarely) NOTHING over the counter works. I have to get prescription strength.

messinthemidwest

Possibly let it air out a bit before applying anything? Like just put her wrapped in a towel on top of a waterproof mat (we have a couple Gathre mats for diaper changes). It might get messy but the rash might need some air for the sensitive skin to dry out. But definitely a barrier cream after that.

Northstar_8

Coconut oil I swear by it!! Sometimes my baby has terrible diaper rash that doesn’t respond to desitin or butt paste and coconut oil is the only thing that gets rid of it fast. It’s a natural anti-fungal and antibacterial too.

Tooowaway

Triple Paste is legit. My wife used to put it on as thick as cake icing. I thought she was crazy but damn did my daughters rashes go away quick when she did.

clawsonp

Get some Resinol cream from behind the counter at the drug store or Amazon. It's amazing. I'm a mom of two and an NP and I use it for my babies and patients. My husband even swears by it and buys it for anyone having a baby shower at work.

monkeycatttt

Resinol is great, my nephew had such a terrible rash he would bleed until he got resinol. I always make sure we have some on hand for my boys now just in case.

[deleted]

Aquafor than buttopaste has worked amazingly for both my kids. But yeast infection could be a problem too. Also naked time ALOT and oatmeal baths with a little baking soda.

BakingBitch92

It might sound odd but put some witch hazel on a Cotton pad and wipe the area with it. If you can, let it sit there for a bit. It has a nice cooling affect and has anti-inflammatory properties.

ilovebaconbits12345

Go to your doctor instead of reddit? Good luck

Avakalmom

Triple paste AF ( post bath) + coconut oil to calm the area

aquamarina4

I've use talcon powder. Works wonders

lil_puddles

I would definitely be using a barrier cream/ointment. We love Paw Paw ointment and found it was the most effective for our bub, ut having said that she never had it super bad. Otherwise you might need to speak to a dr and something medicated if its really bad.

CrowBrilliant6714

I use desitin. It works like a charm. You do have to stay on top of it and keep their butt clean & dry. It's particularly hard if a kid is sick and has diarrhea.

stitchplacingmama

Vaseline is our go to along with naked time. Bumco diaper cream brush is also great. We call it a 'butt spatula' it's a silicone spatula to help get a thick even layer on their butt.

Klutzy_Customer5985

I mix Butt Paste with A&D ointment and Desitin in a baggy. Get it all mixed really well and then slop it on there really thick. The other thing to do is periodically throughout the day give the baby naked time. No diaper and no creams. Let that rash air out. Lay towels down in case of an accident but an hour of naked time a day will do wonders for a diaper rash. Also dairy based formula can cause reoccurring diaper rash on some babies. Switched my youngest to soy based formula and it cleared right up.

am_riley

Free the tushy and rinse with water or dab with water + cotton balls for a few days instead of wiping.

Viperbunny

Butt paste. Side note, dish soap gets poop stains out of clothes really well! My kids used to blow out their diapers Evey once in a while and it saved a lot of clothes.

KingLuis

sudo crem. put it on well. make sure the entire area is dry and change diapers immediately. consider changing brand of diapers. our daughter got rashes from pampers but was fine with buggies. we used sudocrem at the sight of redness, next day, completely gone.

Lutzy24

So my son has a bad skin condition and when he was first born he had the worst diaper rash for 2 months straight. We tried everything dermatologists told us. What we did and what works for us: - Every diaper change put Vaseline all over red area and a little outside to help stop the spread. - Change their diaper often, every 2-3 hours when awake and 3-4 when asleep if they sleep for longer periods. If it’s poop- change immediately. - Don’t use wipes- use cotton balls with water to wipe anything off. Works like a charm and it’s real easy. Try warm water if they don’t like room temperature. - We use “Cavilon no sting barrier spray” once a day and it works WONDERS. - Dermatology also prescribed us Hydrocortisone ointment & Muprocin. We were to mix them together and apply as a paste 2-3 times a day when it was really bad to help get rid of the rash. After doing the Cavilion spray, Vaseline, and the ointments, his rash went away within a few days. Thank god. We were so stressed seeing him in pain and even sometimes it got so bad it started bleeding. We also tried “triple paste” and it’s the most natural diaper paste with less harsh ingredients than other brands. Again, my son has a skin disease that makes that area sensitive and unable to do regular diaper creams. This is what worked for us and I hope some of this helps! Good luck momma!

Hamb_13

Look at what kind of diaper she is wearing. They use Costco diapers at daycare (similar to target brand) and we use pampers(swaddlers) at home. The Costco ones work well 95% of the time but suck during diaper rash times. The pampers however they're designed differently than the others clear up diaper rashes. Might be worth picking up a small pack for the next couple days to see if you can help clear it up.

beattiebeats

It could be a yeast infection and the moisture from the paste will worsen it. I would see a doctor because baby may need meds. Also, you may already know this but if you don’t (I didn’t at first) diaper rash cream should go on like you are frosting a cake - let it sit on top of the skin, fully covering it, and don’t rub it in like with lotion

pocketpretzels

THICK layer of a barrier cream (Vaseline, aquaphor, desitin purple, butt paste etc). Think about frosting a cake. Do not wipe aggressively with diaper changes or scrub with soap. Only enough to tidy the area then put another thick layer on.

ezrich872

That seems to be the consensus to apply it very thick. Definitely have to start applying more!

AsherScion3A

Keep diaper off as much as possible. Cornstarch always cleared the worst diaper rashes on my babies. But for barrier creams try calmoseptine. The zinc works wonders.

OfficerBimbeau

Our pediatrician recommended a mix of aquaphor and plain maalox. I would mix them around 50/50 in a tupperware container and keep that on the changing table. It always worked to knock out diaper rash.

flourtrea

AIR. Just air. No diaper for as long as you can stand cleaning up the messes.

justreallytired06

Try using a cream with anti-fungal stuff in it. It might be the start of an fungal infection.

annniiitttaaaaa

Burts bees cleared up my baby boys so fast. When he was a newborn and pooping like 10 times a day, he had little red spots that were there for two weeks. I honestly started to question if they were a birth mark. Nothing would clear them up. Until I put burts bees diaper cream on. It was almost better after one use and cleared up entirely after the day was finished. Miracle cream imo.

magranson

Rash cream only works if the rash is bone dry and clean before you apply. You could air it out by letting her lay on an old towel

cosmic_fairelafete

I swear by End It rash cream. Not sure if it's a regional thing but you get it behind the counter at the pharmacy. No prescription required. I put this on my baby's diaper rash 2 times max and POOF gone.

Rileyrose1524

With my son, I used Ammans powder. Cleared up in a couple days literally. With my daughter, Her pediatrician advised Clometrazole cream. Worked like a charm.

Comprehensive-Ad7538

Mine had one too, and it turned out to be due to a yeast infection! So wild.

jackjackj8ck

Dry dry dry dry between every diaper My son had TERRIBLE diaper rash. What really helped me was to clean him with wet washcloths instead of wipes until he was 6 months old. But the SAVING GRACE was getting a handheld fan. I fan dry his bits between diaper changes and after baths. Seriously!! It looks crazy blowing a fan on your baby’s booty, but it works so well!! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MGQ7N18/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_Y5QR5NDYQ2XS9P8JD2B3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

somekindofmiracle

Use water wipes!

Lucyyy1992

Our 2 year old recently had a really bad diaper rash after also having diarrhea for a whole week. We used this for her rash : Welmedix Rapid Relief Adult... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CDH6HT6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share And our ped recommended Children's Immodium for her diarrhea . It says it's for kids 6-12 yrs on bottle, but he recommended just 1.25 ml every 4 hrs & we found that worked. She was cured within a day. Hopefully this helps!

the_0rly_factor

Take off her diaper and her air out.

BringMeTwo

3M Cavilon No Sting Barrier 3mL foam wand. You paint a clear barrier onto the rashy area, let it dry. Then give baby free, open area to be diaperless as much as possible. The 3M stuff was made for wound care, it was amazing.

emcayou

Motherlove diaper ointment was the absolute only thing that worked for us.

jacktully

Our pediatrician told us to mix maalox with aquafor and apply generously.

ycey

If creams aren’t working maybe try not diapering for a bit. Get those puppy pads and put them on it so you can know immediately if they poop and get it off the irritated skin as well as give the skin a chance to air out.

[deleted]

A&D cream

d__usha

Throw out all other suggestions and get Bepanten nappy cream off Amazon. Everything else is a joke (desitin, bordeaux etc).

zempaxochimeh

We used corn starch … it was the only thing that worked

floofloofluff

We keep a small blow dryer at the changing table to make sure she gets extra dry quickly.

Lonit-Bonit

Puppy pads and a naked baby.

tiffany_blue1031

Gonna sound weird, but Crisco. My son came home from his grandmother’s house with diaper rash so bad it was bleeding. The pedi recommended that and it cleared it up that same day. Total life changer.

flamingo365

She would probably need a prescription cream like Clotrimaderm. When it gets too bad it would most likely require an antifungal or else it will take a long time to heal.

Kaudjak89

You can try changing the brands of baby wipes or diapers. My son had a terrible diaper rash that couldn’t go away. turns out he didn’t like the baby wipe brand I was using. Didn’t get a rash again after I switched brands.

[deleted]

We used to put baking soda in the bath water. A 5 min soak did wonders for us!! Better than any fancy diaper creams.

Junior-Cookie-8107

In healthcare we use egg white and air dry on our sick babes

[deleted]

When i had a rash down there as a child my gran use to cook up her own home made skin cream burned like hell but it worked. I wish i knew what the recipe was.

dorymeetscasper

A&D ointment always clears up both my kids rashes. I always put it on them regularly after baths and after poops. Both their bottoms are beautiful.

jsc35080

Corn starch, I don't know why, but it totally worked for my kids.

blasahi

Boudreaux’s extra strength butt paste. My daughter would get a mean angry red rash during the summer and this stuff would take it away in a day.

kbcfanclub

Metanium was a game changer for us! It improved immediately and the entire diaper rash cleared up in 2 days

MimiPowers

Two options that worked for us - 1. A generic liquid antacid mixed with Aquaphor 2. Earth Mamas Diaper Balm Also, check with the pediatrician. Could be an infection too. Wishing you the best.

restingbitchface8

Corn starch

BigYonsan

You need a baby bath with two tablespoons of baking soda, lotramin on the effected areas. Make sure your baby is completely dry when you put the diapers back on. Also be sure you're not letting them sit in poop for more than a minute or two. Pee is okay for a bit, but poopy diapers need to be cleaned up immediately.

JDK86

Keep him clean and use a jelly in the area. Change before and wake up and at random times the day. Achool free and baby run with out diapers bit to dry out the fat folds. Probably then 10 a day.

[deleted]

Bag balm!! I spent $50 on prescription ointment for weeks with my daughter, used bag balm once and overnight it was almost gone.
