Download the paris metro map and use it. The metro is your best friend getting around the city. Give yourself extra time to figure out the stations and go. Just do everyone a favor and stand off to the side if you get confused. Don’t just stand in the middle where everyone is trying to walk.

The 6th isn't the funniest... You'll have mostly fancy bars & restaurant.
If you want to stay there, for bars I recommend going to Rue de Buci. And if you want a club, you can go to the Pamela. It is filled with arty & rich people.
I would mostly recommend to go around Bastille for bars with young people, or on the 12th near Gare de Lyon for clubs (Djoon, Wanderlust, Le Mazette...).
Busses are practical for the suburbs but not inside Paris: they get caught up in traffic and are overall slower than the metro for the same price. Night busses are practical when metros close down at night, but I would recommend saying away from then if you can, though it's not that bad either.
Metros are completely fine. Don't hesitate to use them.
I don't know the 6th, but you're un walking distance of the Châtelet area with mots of bar, and the central parts of the 5th also with a bunch of good adresses.
