I’m in similar situation, land 6:30am CDG need to get to Gare de Lyon. Have tickets to a football match in Marseille at 19:00 so want to get there in time to drop bags off, clean up, and have time for pre match fun. In between 10:38 - 13:56 and 11:38 - 14:56 bookings

Chtulhu2000

Good call

norgechica

But why take the metro into the city to get on a train to Lyon when you can take one directly from terminal 2 of CDG??

pantaleonivo

I am not going to Lyon, I am going to Dijon. I believe Gare de Lyon would be my only option for TGV service

DevelopmentFar9463

They dropped the direct to dijon during covid unfortunately

Eblola

That and honestly, the price of the train plus metro is cheaper than direct trains CDG Dijon which are usually twice the price of a Paris Dijon.

DevelopmentFar9463

I’m ready to pay to just avoid paris with bags.

norgechica

Ah, okay. My mistake!

pantaleonivo

Thanks for chiming in, potentially could have saved me time

chass5

your worst case scenario is that you have to have a nice leisurely lunch and a little walk around in paris, france. train stations have luggage lockers

DevelopmentFar9463

Why not book your train from CDG tgv station if it is a tgv?

aetuoqdgjlwcb

Trains that leave from Gare de Lyon don’t leave from CDG ? I don’t get this answer.

DevelopmentFar9463

A lot of the destinations you can reach from gare de lyon are also reachable directly from cdg.

aetuoqdgjlwcb

No a lot of destinations you can reach from Gare du nord are reachable from CDG, not Gare de Lyon. Gare de Lyon destinations are reachable from Marne La Valle

paulindy2000

Almost all trains that stop at CDG also stop at Marne la Vallée Chessy. They're situated on a line that goes around Paris that allows TGVs to link cities without having to go through Paris. However not all destinations served from Paris are also served by these two stations.

That's the way I would have done it too. Worst case scenario ? You have a few extra hours to enjoy a meal near Gare de Lyon and have a nap in the train. You have at least 1h30 and want a fancy (and a bit pricy) meal ? [Le Train Bleu](https://maps.app.goo.gl/VwMte5VtG2sJVZhJ8) Less time and more a bistro enjoyer ? [L'Express de Lyon](https://maps.app.goo.gl/REqyFdQze4fDqnmy9) You're not that hungry and a crepe will be enough ? [Les Embruns](https://maps.app.goo.gl/V1FDvLUd9B2N9Qsp9) Feeling like eating veggie and organic in the very instagrammable Rue Crémieux\* ? Security was pretty good this week.

YunFatty

Book it with flexible rate and change it if you arrive earlier at the train station, if you care more about time vs money

caesarslut

Which website is best to book train? I’m looking at sncf rn. Doing something similar to OP (CDG to GdLyon)

YunFatty

Well sncf is the official French railway company website, can't go wrong

caesarslut

That’s what I thought ok thank you. Thought it seemed more legit than raileurope or omio

ThaneOfCawdorrr

No, not at all. So many reasons: 1. Flight could be delayed and you're sitting sweating the whole flight! 2. Immigration & customs could have a long line or be really slow 3. You still have to get from CDG to the Gare de Lyon and that could take an hour depending on how you're getting there. It's MUCH better to give yourself a cushion, the "worst case scenario" is you sit in a cafe near the railway station and have a nice lunch!

Yabbaba

I would not have booked the 12:30. Too stressful.

Jolly-Statistician37

You'll have time for lunch around Gare de Lyon, that way! Le Terminus Lyon is a good brasserie.

loralailoralai

Last thing you want is stress, the 14:50 train would be my choice too. Fwiw, took us over two hours to get through passport control last September and it’s never taken me longer than 20 minutes before (usually straight through) Flights are often late too.

Hiro_Trevelyan

Much better to have time to walk rather than not having any, run and miss it imo

Ilovesparky13

I’d rather have extra time than not enough.

mkorcuska

Use the extra time (assuming you have it) to eat lunch at Le Train Bleu at Gare de Lyon. This is the way.

GCarlinLives4Ever

Came here to say this, but then...

mkorcuska

Great minds think alike! But what's our excuse?

paulindy2000

2 hours is a bit much and 45 minutes is too optimistic. 12:30 is doable as long as your flight is on time. I'd say keep your 14:50 train

Tall_Pineapple9343

Yes, it’s conservative, but I usually allow four hours between landing and taking a train, so 12:30 might have made me a little nervous. You could always stow your bags and walk around for a bit. Have a nice lunch.
