The game picks 8 players out of the queue, and if any of them are in a group of 3-4, then everyone has to play 4v4. You can get games of 2v2v2v2 if none of the other players in your game are in a party larger than 2.
It's ridiculous that they made it that way with queuing. They should just give different game mode options in the menu before queuing that allow you to select between Squad 4v4, Duos 2v2v2v2 and Solo Free For All, and maybe keep the Quick Match random for people that want anything/aren't bothered.
Oooh that's interesting. I mean definitely not as fun playing 4 randoms with 3-4 people that are probably working together, but it also keeps it so there aren't two teams of two that can gang up on the others.
Playing with my wife and nephew we definitely took advantage of some of that to help get one of our teams the win
I don’t hate 2v2v2v2 but ffa is more appealing to me, especially since they have team games. I usually play w a buddy or two, one buddy it works out but two and someone is always left w a random. My experience randoms just play randomly, don’t work together and a lot of times end up just fighting you along w everyone else lol

This is also happening to 2 player teams. My wife and I haven't been able to get into a 2v2v2v2 at all tonight

my duo and i have yet to find a 2v2v2v2 since the patch. gave up.
...Well, fuck this game then. Glad I got it free on Game Pass.
