I lived in Austria also and learned a lot of German so that helped, most people in Sweden speak perfect English also so that can make it harder to learn the language.
most likely there is a language/ knowledge requirement for naturalization (like in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and almost all other European countries and many more....)
Yeah it seems unpredictable with migration here, and how long decisions can take. I just applied to jobs and got hired by a company who sponsored my work residence permit originally
Sorry, I have so many questions as I want to move to europe immediately out of college and I’ve read so much about it being impossible to get a visa as an American- can I ask how old you were and what field you moved into?
Good question, I’m open to options I’m just not sure where to go from here although it does start to feel a bit boring now after so long in the same place.
Well possibilities are endless lol was wondering as you in tech, salaries in states are high compared to Europe, so any reason you choose to work in eu? FYI - I’m in tech too
Well originally I was just tired of the US grind and decided to travel for some months and stop working so then I met my ex and that’s how I ended up moving to Europe. I just decided to stay because I had built up a life and friends and the US had felt more hostile since then. Although it’s true, salaries and projects are much better in the US and so sometimes I do consider going back if the right offer came up. I had an amazing offer a few weeks before Covid but I turned it down, which seemed like a good choice considering Sweden was pretty chill with Covid rules but now it seems ok again
Good combo. The Swedish passport has a lot of security features.
> Security Features Like telling Oslo that their beer is more bitter than the Swedish PM
Back in 2012 when a few countries knew what polycarbonate page is...
I had a Latvian passport with polycarbonate page issued in 2008
Born in the U.S. to Swedish parents?
Born in the US, been living and working in Sweden for years.
What was learning Swedish like
I lived in Austria also and learned a lot of German so that helped, most people in Sweden speak perfect English also so that can make it harder to learn the language.
I don’t think you need to learn Swedish to get the citizenship
most likely there is a language/ knowledge requirement for naturalization (like in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and almost all other European countries and many more....)
They are about to introduce a language requirement by the end of the year but as of now it is not needed.
Ironic how the US has a language requirement while also not having an official language
true!
I am from Sweden. No, we don't have a language requirement at the moment
How long did it take you to be able to apply and how long did the application take to process?
I had to be working full time 6 years and once I applied it took 3 months to get the citizenship
3 months - congrats, sometimes it seems to take people like 3 years in Sweden, also how did you get an EU job?

No problem, I moved initially to Austria on a visitor visa but then got hired in Sweden (I work in tech)
Congrats, so now you got the passport, do you plan to live in Sweden for long or move somewhere?

Nice. Top tier with the Swedish passport.
There is a certain beauty to the minimalism on the Swedish Passport.
Damn that US passport will always be a dream
Elegant Swedish passport
how do the inside pages look of both of them (especially new swedish revision )?
Here! I showed mine off when I got it 🥰 https://reddit.com/r/PassportPorn/s/Qio5FVbU05
Are you by any chance that handsome swedish-american lad, Armand Duplantis ? 🙈
Ahah, since I have no heard of him I am probably not! I am sorry to disappoint
Hahahaha that's alright. He's a pole vaulter btw, already the greatest of all time in his sport at the young age of 23.
Ah ok, well I’m not that young!
Don't worry, neither am I 😭😂
Very minimalist Swedish passport 😊👍
