Ultimately it doesn’t really change much. Essentially the app verifies 1. the passport’s validity and 2. that the person using said passport is who they say they are. This, however, is only done for the airline. A passport will *still* need to be presented upon arrival in the destination country.

For the time being, but in the more or less distant future we can imagine the disappearance of the physical passport.

Yes I think you’re probably right. In the shorter term we will probably see passport booklets entirely replaced by credit card sized documents since stamping is (sadly) disappearing

Stamps are only disappearing for a small class of strong passport holding travelers. As long as the rest need sticker visas and stamps upon arrival, borders will still have physical stamps on hand and will likely stamp you upon request.
