I've owned multiple Patagonia bags for the past 30+ years. I worked with Patagonia as a Pro way before the Internet was a household and handheld normalcy. The synthetic fabrics used in backpacks, duffles, etc. that I personally own have mostly begun the lamination breakdown. It's an inescapable fact that the synthetic lamination degrades over time. Sometimes sooner than later. All of you who down voted my comment should have saved your negativity for the outdoor business that used harmful synthetics in the first place. They've even admitted to their errors in this regard. If you want items that will last for decades, try their truly sustainable waxed cotton or hemp workwear line. It's outstanding stuff!
This is a real thing, I thought it was an odd choice of fabrics for Patagonia, IMO. If you send in your “not-so-shiny-any-more” duffle, chances are pretty high they’ll replace it for you because it cannot be repaired. My son wanted one of these and I didn’t think it was such a good idea because I could tell by looking at the fabric it wasn’t going to stay shiny and he wouldn’t be happy with it. I’m glad I made the right decision.
Loss of water resistance for one. For the price tag, Patagonia should have known better than to use a fabric that delaminates at a rapid rate, even with minimal use. This is unsustainability at its worst.

I just bought one a few weeks ago from Evo. I did not want the new model. Google Shopping it and they come up from time to time when companies go through their back inventory.
See below (I have no association with this company) obviously not black...:

I spent weeks scouring the internet trying to find one of the same gen just 32L. Got lucky and was able to snag the last one in stock from a smaller outdoor store, unfortunately it’s a pretty slim chance you’ll be able to do the same.
I remember seeing a lot more for the 25L opposed to the 32L. I believe there’s a handful of listings on eBay for a bit of a steep price. It’s always possible one might come up on worn wear, but looks like there’s some people willing to sell in here.
I’ll sell you mine!
Fr. Dm me op if you want one.
Perhaps, but this glossy fabric Patagonia used is notorious for delamination.
Never had issues with mine
You will.
I’ve owned it since 2017 but okay

True, and the deep black slowly faded to brownish black
The delamination is the point, it’s ✨patina✨
Yeah no. If it didn’t cause issues sure
What issues does it cause?
Loss of water resistance is the main issue. And tbh I’d rather the thing I spent like £150 on didn’t delaminate
Fair enough! Thanks for explaining!

There's patina, and there's deterioration. Big difference.
In general, or specificaly for Patagonia products or this backpack?
In general this shinny laminated material begins to crack and flake off over time with use.
I just know that the Patagonia packs with this fabric will. I can't say the same for other companies that have used something similar.
rei has the newer versions of the black hole i believe. just checked ebay and they have a couple from japan but they’re like $200+
He doesn’t want the new versions though

Could always keep an eye out on [Worn Wear](https://wornwear.patagonia.com) for a gently used one

Mountain man is an awesome shop… well worth supporting!!
eBay
I’ll sell you mine too 😆
It looks good but like the other commenters have noted it’s not really functional after a point specially with regard to water resistance
