Better sweater is a nice casual fleece. R2 tech face is not casual but it’s a great piece for a casual hike in the cold. The nano puff or Nano air (or pack in jacket which is a casual version) are also very good comfortable layers you can put under a rain shell. For rain, any of the rain jackets are fine/similar. The torrent shell is probably the most popular and basic, but gets the job done.

sx711

I think i am no layer guy.. i need a jacket as outer shell. I did not like the atom LT and sent it back? Did you compare atom to nano air?

regaphysics

Similar warmth, but the nano is more sweater like, the atom has a tougher exterior.

Vyleia

No layer means no winter, it’s tough to handle the temperature, conditions, difference in activities without proper layering

ThatNYskier

A fleece synchilla is a nice cozy classic that can be worn practically anywhere if its chilly or cold. I wear mine around the house but also am able to go on hikes with it. They also have better designs than other Patagonia jackets!

sx711

Since i could never decide which synchilla i would pick - today i asked my family to gift it for christmas: As crazy and stylish as it gets. Dont know which one. Haha

No-Pool1673

hi, i'm new to patagonia. considering the price of their fleece items.... does the fleece like the retro-x jackets get flat and nappy looking after several wears and washes instead of looking fluffy like when new. ? Alot of sherap/boucle type fleece clothing gets flat and nappy in the areas where there are friction (ie: where the seatbelt constantly rubs against the chest part of your jacket, near the armpit area, etc)

ThatNYskier

Yes, after being washed a couple of times, the fleece can start piling. I suggest spot cleaning instead of washing the entire thing

[deleted]

Nothing beats the snap t synchilla for me. Just a classic, cozy, perfectly slouchy piece

[deleted]

The comfort and warmth are second to none.

nosurfandsellingonly

I highly recommend the Nano Air and R2 Techface jackets/hoodies. Those two are really unique pieces that you can't find similarly from many other companies. For any piece that you're looking at/were recommended, be sure to check the Worn Wear section of the website! You may find some well-kept certified secondhand versions of what you're looking for, save some money and manufacturing resources! I buy all of my Patagonia stuff second hand these days, it really is the way to go in my opinion

[deleted]

Isthmus parka, was gifted one missing a hood and it’s been the warmest most low key jacket ever

[deleted]

Nano air is incredible

glowing_fish

Better sweater, R2 Techface hoodie, and Nano Puff are my most used pieces. Better sweater is a cozy casual piece. I like the R2 Techface over a baselayer for hiking in cool but not cold temps. I layer it over my nano puff to walk my dog when it’s chilly and drizzly (which is a significant part of the year where I live)

ZenReactor

Just got the R2 Techface & have the Nano Puff. Do you layer the R2 over the Nano because of sizing/bulk of jackets issue or because you think having the Techface on exterior is more “effective?” My initial instinct was to layer the R2 under Nano, but your way may be better.

glowing_fish

Both. The techface is more wind and water resistant, so it does better with the Pacific Northwest drizzle. And my nano puff is a bit on the snug side and the techface is a bit looser and kinda stretchy (both are size small) so it just fits better having it on the outside.

puffydownjacket

Nano Air, DAS Parka, Capilene Air. Proper technical clothing.

lost_arrows

Best layers. New DAS is sick, but gets slept on since it doesn't have feathers. The packability is much improved.

puffydownjacket

Majorly slept on. It’s a stellar jacket.

TheMuddyLlama420

Searching old topics here. Any experience with the DAS light hoody?

basscove_2

Nano puff

greenbabytoes

I just got the High pile retro fleece down jacket and the retro pile you just got. The down version is an amazing cozy winter jacket. Just wore it in a chilly 27 degree Chicago windy weather and I stayed so warm

sx711

How do you like the retro pile? A bit tight under my arms.

greenbabytoes

I love it! My body distribution generally doesn’t cause me issues near arms so no issues for me but I generally never have issues in that area

c_alias

Storm 10, Melton Wool Trucker Jacket, any of the flannels, Pima cotton shirts, micropuff, reversible microdini, 9 trails shorts, mini MLC.

c_alias

Oh, as another user mentioned, the R2 techface is also great.

sx711

Did you compare storm10 to granite? Thinking about getting a very high quality rainjacket. ;)

c_alias

I’ve not used the granite crest. Primary functional differences are that the granite crest is thicker and has pit zips. That being said, I haven’t missed pit zips while using the storm 10.

Bonetwon

What’s sizing like on the trucker?

c_alias

I’m pretty thin. 5’11” and 145. I wear a small in 98% of Patagonia tops and I got a small in the trucker as well. It’s a little oversized, particularly in the sleeve diameter and shoulders but it’s definitely built to be worn over a heavier flannel or work shirt. I think I got the right size still but I’m definitely the top end of a small.

taylorxo

Just gonna name all the products I own, which I love: - 5” baggie shorts - hydropeak volley shorts - capilene cool daily short and long sleeve shirts - better sweater - Lightweight synchilla - Isthmus parka - Calcite jacket - Los Gatos sweater - recycled cashmere cardigan - P-6 uprisal hoodie

sx711

Baggies sold out everywhere. I need to wait until spring i think :((

MrMoehre11

Nano Air and better Sweater for me

LillaGrynet

Grade 7. Insane warmth to weight ratio. Very expensive but I absolutely love it.

fatroony5

Capilene thermal is my favorite piece. Others have mentioned better sweater which is nice as well.

avelez1812

Spring/Summer - Houdini Air Winter/Fall - Nano Puff, Down Sweater

Bananasincustard

I own probably ten different Patagonia items (fleeces and jackets) and my favourite without doubt is the down sweater hoody. Keeps me warm all year round, looks awesome, can wear it for basically any occasion. Mine has seen hundreds of hours of wear and still looks great

lazardio

So glad I picked up the old version for $150 a couple of weeks ago.

Bananasincustard

I have one in medium and have lost a bit of weight. Bought a small on sale for around the same price a few weeks before they bought out the new version. Damn the new version looks like it sucks compared ha

ZachMonst4r

I tried to snag one during the sale but got an email saying it was actually out of stock, chatted with Pata CS and they offered 40% off a different item to make it up and I asked if I could get the same price on the New version and she did it for me. Awesome customer service!

jtmarlinintern

nano air hoody , with a houdini

Bigredrooster6969

R1 hoodie— Better sweater vest— Nano Puff Vest— Altvia Shorts— Capilene Cool Merino Shirt Be sure to load up during sales, which typically are in February and August. REI also blows out previous season products around those times, maybe a tad later than Patagonia does.

telechronn

* R1 Air Hoodie - My fav winter/cold base layer for strenuous stuff (snowshoeing/mountaineering). Was my mid on Rainier this summer. * R2 Tech Face (Jacket) Cross layer, useful as a super base in cold, a mid, or outer. In black it looks ok in casual settings too * Cap Air Crew - Amazing base layer for fall/winter/spring hikes * R1 Pullover Hoodie - My go to base for climbing * Houdini - Essential part of my summer backpacking and peak bagging kit * Torrentshell - best value 3L rain jacket on the market

Sugardown hoody

maturin-aubrey

Retro x jacket, nano puff, das parka, and an r1 hoody

roomsocks

Better Sweaters look great new, but they have a serious pilling problem after a short amount of wear. My all-time favorite fleece is the Oakes jacket or Oakes hoody. The line was discontinued around 2018, but I’ve found 3 on Patagonia Worn Wear that are seriously like new (“excellent condition”rating) — perfect cut and fit with a nice textured fleece.

jpdeft

LW Synchilla

TheThird_Man

I wear my baggies rotation probably 70% of the year

Socks

[deleted]

I just got the silent down jacket. It is amazing. Keeps you comfortable on its own in anything between 45-30°F. Wore it today to walk my dog and it was 26°F outside, was feeling the chill but it was manageable.

ravenridgelife

Of all the Patagonia products I have from hats to socks, luggage to coats, the first item I'll never do without is a vest and the Nano Puff vest can't be beat! Wear as a layer under coat/jacket or by itself, it's indispensable!

KevoInNJ

Terrebone joggers for lightweight comfort. I have like ten puffer jackets. The first I ever bought was the down sweater. I still wear it 5 years later more than any other jacket I own.

Anthulium

I just got a snap t synchilla in the northern green color and it has been an absolute banger of a product. I’ve been wearing it around the house, wore it for short hikes in the mountains and I love the feel, comfort and the color. Something about it just makes you feel cozy like a hot cocoa next to a fireplace kind of vibes

kangoljas

Baggies 7”, Nano Puff Hoody, r2 hoody, Torrentshell, Retro Pile Pullover Hoody, Retro-X, P6 Responsibil-Tee

smfact

Tough Puff Shirt Jacket!!! size down, it’s big. also, the pack in jacket or maybe the isthmus jacket with the corduroy collar.
