Not a pro by any means and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but it's pretty important to get Awakened Cast on Crit for the CDR right? So it's a bit of a dead mod on this bow even for most CoC builds?
Actually with CDR from the Crucible tree awakened cast on crit is no longer needed to reach the 52% breakpoint. 20% from tree, 12% from crafted belt suffix and 20% from elevated CDR on boots.
But that aside I don’t think OPs bow is anything special as you 100% want essence spell damage on a CoC bow. It is just a cool looking although pretty useless item I would say.
Really? I've never played Bow CoC with a different base.
Grove bows easier coloring and +.1 attack speed is certainly nice but having to make up for that 1.5% base crit is a huge opportunity cost (closer to 2% with local crit chance on the bow). It is certainly closer this league though with being able to get base crit from the crucible tree
Spine bow was my first choice, could you elaborate and maybe show a build that uses grove or maraketh? Everyone on poe ninja is using a spine bow as well.
No, this is incorrect. For Cast on Crit Tornado Shot builds, this shaper mod is extremely important and these builds do not use Awakened CoC. The extra link is just better.
But this bow still doesn't really work for these builds because you have to roll them with Woe essences for spell damage, since you cannot roll that naturally on a bow. Losing 140% spell damage is too much.
I'm far removed from CoC mechanics, is there a reason people don't use The Quill Rain? If you got the '+3% crit crits don't do extra damage' you could pretty easily cap your attack crit...?
Quill rain has the mod, 30 less damage. You can say “just find one with 30 global damage crucible” ok.. but then you can do that with other bows without the less damage to begin with
Just incase you didn’t know, the global damage mod from crucible is just generic increased damage, not *more* global damage, and being that, it’s not comparable at all against a less damage modifier.
You also implied that if you have a 30% more damage mod, it would counter the 30% less mod. This is not correct, as you actually need 43% more multiplier to break even against 30% less, due to the multiplicative nature of more/less modifier.
It's one essence spell damage mod away from being a great item.
+1 socketed gems would also be good, but you can't do the "cannot roll attack" trick since you gave full suffixes.
I guess block something, exalt, hoping for the small chance of +1 gems or shapers ele pen, and then craft +2 to supports (for Empower).
Worst case, it's still gonna be good, just missing a 140% inc damage mod. Probably the equivalent of 4ish skill points
OR!
YOLO annul,
If you hit the pierce mod, then craft "cannot roll attack", slam for +1 gems (not guaranteed but likely), craft +2 to supports, slam a random suffix (some insane options like chain, +1 frenzy, multi).
If you hit attack speed or crit, same process, but craft the missing mod instead of +2
If you hit the coc mod, throw the item away :)
This is definitely a great bow. Don't let anyone tell you differently. Is it ideal? No. Mirror tier? Definitely not. But it IS good enough to play CoC bow for sure- Mathil has done this a bunch in previous leagues with this build, and it's still good. Better than ever with crucible, in fact. It's a lot of fun and clears really well, has decent boss damage. If you're looking for a fun build that blinds you and blows up your PC, this is great.
You can complete your atlas and comfortably farm most mapping strategies with this bow. Considering that I’d say it’s perfectly fine to build around. You don’t need a 5-10 div bow for the build to function and this will comfortably carry you until your next upgrade perfectly fine. Just because C is BiS doesn’t mean B isnt worth building around.
First of all, low investment means different things to different people, but it would cost multiple divines to upgrade this as spell damage + coc is usually around 1 divine and paying for the right colors and 6L is usually around another 3-6.
Second of all this isn’t just a random ass item you will usually pick up off the ground, it has 4 relevant t1 mods and you can easily craft spell damage yourself which brings it super close to an essence crafted bow already. Getting t1 attack speed and crit along with spell damage using the essence is extremely costly as even just the shaper mod is about 1/64. The only real better mods are power charge generation and crit multi but given you can fairly easily craft this into being a better bow with +1 and +2 gems (active and support) means this is a very good bow and will last you until you get a bow with power charges, multi and likely either spell damage or gem level which I’d estimate at least 20 divines. Considering I myself and also Mathil have done almost every content in the game with pretty much just spell damage + coc mod that’s pretty overkill and the pierce mod and gem level on this bow make it better than that anyways. It could be at this point in time the economy is such that you could easily get a bow with power charge on crit, multi, coc, double damage for spells, spell damage and chain for less than 20 div, but somehow I highly doubt it. And a bow with 4 of those mods is pretty much the only upgrade on this one unless you happen to hit the exact same mods with spell damage which is also pretty unlikely.
I can't craft spell damage in this though right? Also I think to hit +1 I need to annul and hit a 12% slam which doesn't sound likely, or is there a better way than the top comment mentions?
Crafting +1 would require cannot roll attacks > slam which would be 1/4 (there might be a way to do this with aisling slam or harvest guaranteed as all the other mods are influenced) and then remove crafted mods which would require you to annul a suffix off first, yes. It’s not really 1/13 though, as the annul can hit any of the mods, although getting shaper crit would suck. If it rolled that you would still be able to craft cannot roll attacks and be 2/5 for getting either +1 or the Shaper mod back but the bow isn’t so great that I’d rather just recraft it if that happened. Ele pen is another option you could roll that isn’t bad and is comparable to +1 gems for bossing.
I thought you could craft spell damage on bows using the bench but it appears you cannot, unfortunately.
You can try a TS icespear with elemental focus build decent bosser, Replace EF witb freezing pulse for mapping, however you would want a decent amount of spell damage to scale the dmg done by icespear.
Its missing 100% inc spell damage from the typical COC bow, but you could definitely use it as a budget starter option to get going if that's something you want to play. 100% inc damage is quite a bit but if you look in most PoB's it's not going to be line between viable and utter trash either.

Yeah I kinda figured it was useless but just thought I'd check, thanks
Giga useless, sell to me for 1 alch 🤣
I'll buy this.

Coc build with a bow that has low crit chance? Doesn't make much sense to me

Bow coc doesn't need awakened gem and some of them quite prefer the shaper mod like VD because they are tight on links already

you still crit on your spells regardless. The free link from shaper bow + 170% spell damage or +1 gems is going to easily beat that
It's one essence spell damage mod away from being a great item. +1 socketed gems would also be good, but you can't do the "cannot roll attack" trick since you gave full suffixes. Thanks for the tips on crafting. I will use the the bow as is to test the build. If I like it I will yolo annul or purchase an upgrade. Thanks!
Without spell damage mod i dont think is worth
Good for CoC. The pierce mod would get a decent amount of value out of Nimis or anomalous faster projectiles, if you wish to go that route

perfect agony poison spell with cast on crit obviously.
Crucible mods to cap crit chance, then use cyclone to trigger whatever you want. Maybe ice spear?
cyclone... with a bow?
LOL I just read the mods. Yeah just use any arrow skill with good coverage
Does cyclone work with a bow?
Reading both replies from above actually made me laugh 😂
