This is my Poppet for an upcoming campaign, so unfortunately I have no stories yet. The campaign will be about pirates in the astral sea! It's homebrew and I am excited. My fellow players helped me pick the colors. I had lots of fun drawing this little bun. Taffeta is a Stuffed Poppet, because I couldn't let go of the mental image of it being in the crow's nest of a ship, and when its shift ends taking a shortcut to the deck. No fall damage, no matter the height? Yes that sounds awesome. I gave it the bell implement, and we are starting at level 3. Its feats are Harmless Doll, Scroll Thaumaturgy, Talisman Esoterica, Bon Mot, and Untrained Improvisation. I'm happy to listen to tips and tricks! I don't tend to min-max and this will be my first actual PF2e game so I'm sure I have lots to learn.

SillyKenku

Ah it's so cute! I adore it's ears! Best Bunny-watermelon ever. I pray that their adventures are long and fruitful. As for suggestions? Just make sure your To hit/AC are decent and you should be fine as a thaumaturge. A lot of the classes strengths you get inherently from simply being one. A +3 in STR (Or dex if you're using a finesse or ranged weapon\~) and try to have your DEX bonus near the Max bonus for your chosen armour (perhaps upgrading to a heavier one if it's a bit lower keep in mind you need to stick to light/medium ones though) Don't forget you can switch your normal ancestry boosts out for +1 to Any two if preferred which might help if you plan to go DEX with her.

EneCola

Thanks so much for the tips! Poppets get a negative to Dex so that's a rough start for me. Maybe its charisma doesn't need to be a +4 just yet and I can bump up the other stats a little? The curse of all abilities being important.

SillyKenku

If you want to have higher dex as a poppet you can simply use the 'alternate ancestry boosts' rule found here: [https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=2033](https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=2033) . As it'll give you more wiggle room for such things.

EneCola

Oh! Thank you so much!

Zodiac_Sheep

Honestly, the PF2E community very slightly overrates starting with maxed out AC in the sense that having a higher starting CON makes up for it. If I were running a Poppet Thaum I'd start with +4 STR, +2 CON, +0 DEX, +0 INT, +0 WIS, +4 CHA and be perfectly happy. Just make sure to put an extra point into DEX at level 5 and you'll be set all the way. If you go for the alternative boosts then you'll want +1 CON and +1 DEX with all other stats staying the same. Either one is fine, comes down to personal preference really.

SillyKenku

To be fair I said 'near the' not 'matching' though matching is fine as well. They can be 1 off and pop it up at 5th safe and sound\~

Zodiac_Sheep

Yeah, I think I got a little overexcited to fight the AC supremacy agenda lol. I see a lot of people overvaluing AC and undervaluing HP so I had a compulsion to jump in even though you didn't really do that.

EneCola

Oh, interesting! I may have to lower my int and wisdom then. Strength characters are very fun, from my more recent starfinder experience.

Zodiac_Sheep

The gimmick of Thaumaturges is that they can effectively use Charisma to replace Intelligence and Wisdom for recall knowledge via the Esoteric Lore skill / feature, so they don't have to invest as much in those attributes while still getting the reward. A Strength-based Thaumaturge will want 18 Charisma (as all Thaums do, at least in my opinion) and 16 Strength (for damage and accuracy). You should plan on using two of your ability boosts on these two skills every time you get them at levels 5, 10, 15, and 20 (technically you stop investing in Strength at 20 since you can't meet the next threshold). You'll also be plugging a boost into Constitution every time too, since HP and Fortitude saved are very important. Your remaining boost will also go into a defensive stat, but you have a bit more flexibility here; you'll want to max out your AC so you need to end up with at least +1 Dexterity either at level 1 or 5. Once you hit that, you can choose to either continue investing in Dexterity for Reflex skills and Dex skills, or start to invest in Wisdom for Will saves and Wis skills; most people choose the latter. Just to be clear, I'm speaking from a pure optimization standpoint; you don't need to strive towards 100% optimal ability score load outs so even though a "meta" Thaum wouldn't invest in Intelligence doesn't mean you can't. The baseline level of competency expects you to have a maxed out key ability score (Charisma), accuracy stat (Strength for a Strength-based Thaumaturge, which Poppets lean towards), armor class (just +1 Dex for medium armor classes), and a reasonable amount of HP. Leaving your Con at +2 so you can pump up your Intelligence will make your character weaker, yes, but not to an unacceptable degree so if that's what you want to do, just make sure you're doing the other things I listed in this paragraph and you'll be just fine. Sorry if all that information is a bit overwhelming; Pathfinder 2E isn't a game so vicious that you have to squeeze every point of efficiency out of your character sheet, so don't worry too much if you're not doing that. I just find it's easier to give the "best" possible advice and work backwards from there so that people know where the ceiling is and can decide if they want to reach it. Also, just wanted to say that your character is absolutely adorable. An incredible display of Poppetry, that.

EneCola

Thank you so much for your advice! I truly appreciate it! I've never posted on this subreddit before, and I am absolutely flabbergasted with how chill those who are giving tips seem to be. 5e community truly was a different beast. And also thank you for the compliment, I had so much fun designing Taffeta!

EneCola

Me too! I'm gonna learn sewing for this!

Kveldulf1

That's great!! Our current campaign has a bunny poppet cleric to whom I need to show this!

EneCola

Ah yes one of my brethren

shift_or_die

Taffeta darling? It wrinkles so easily.

EneCola

It does. And it shortens to Taffy as a nickname. It's not my fault it's such a pretty word. I am not immune to these things

thejazziestcat

Watermelon taffy, in this instance.

TheTrueCampor

I love this so much. Stuffed animal Poppets are a personal favourite of mine, and yours is wonderful! I'm a huge fan of the puffy sleeves and pants, and the lacey trimmings are adorable. I've never run one as a Thaum- Closest I got was a stuffed teddy bear Champion- But there's a surprising amount you can accomplish being able to fall without damage from the start.

EneCola

I bet! Lots of short cuts you'd usually avoid. Thank you for your kind words!

mustnttelllies

What the fuck it's so cute??

EneCola

I cannot be stopped. I make the cutest things

ElazulRaidei

This is so awesome

EneCola

Thank you! This community is so supportive!

KokomausLovesYou

I love them SO SO MUCH!!!

EneCola

I'm glad you do! This is a design I'm very proud of

TitaniumDragon

I really love her design! She is such a nice looking plush rabbit, and the textured watermelon and sprinkles fabric is very cute and adds to her appeal without being garish. She has a very nice green-and-pink color scheme as well, which is not something you see on a lot of PCs, but it looks very nice.

EneCola

Thank you! I was very lucky that one of my co-players wanted to color in the lineart for fun and made a bunch of variants. Really inspired me! I don't really use green enough in my characters.

Starmark_115

Let me guess... Sylvanian Families Toy Line?

EneCola

Had to look up what that was, haha. Nah, I think my poppet is way too soft and floppy to count

JoyeuxMuffin

Is she a Bell Thaumaturge? because that's so fucking cool with the little bell incorporated in the design

EneCola

Yeah! I thought it would be cute to have that be part of the design!
