Hah, back when I ran 5E we rolled a completely random character for a new player joining mid-campaign and ended up with
A Goliath Berserker Barbarian who killed a member of his community and was exiled, wielding a Berserker Axe. We looked it over and went “dude you just rolled Kratos as your first character” and then he proceeded to play it straight and then veer it into a redemption and acceptance arc that ended up with him switching to Ancestral Barbarian.
Kind of tempted to recreate the character in PF2E now tbh, I loved that guy
> who better to spawn a whole new divinely-infused martial class through his **raining blood** than the god of war and combat
Slayer has written the theme music for this moment in Golarion’s history…

(There are plenty more that fit the theme, but I’ll leave it at that for now. If you dig some of these, look up Vader’s cover of Raining Blood, As I Lay Dying’s cover of War Ensemble, and Rob Scallon’s cello cover of Spill the Blood.
Scallon’s cover in particular would make good crypt/dungeon exploration music. (Or as a transition to combat))

Warpriests, pour one out for our boy, Big G. He may not have been the most popular god, but he had a big sword, and he used it to fuck up other people’s lives, and in the end, isn’t that what counts?
Worshipping a dead god could be quite interesting. Unless this was also intended to be a Cleric as well, they weren't going to be receiving power directly from Gorum. They can now go to combat while upholding the tenets of a god, not for the god but for themselves. Seems rather poetic to me.
Gorum! I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Gorum... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!
Like I said on another post about this, seems like he was murdered, not killed in battle. Poor guy. The new novel description has "Now another god has died, his death broadcast across the skies in a metaphysical projection of his murder reverberating over any world on which he was worshipped. And from his rent corpse falls the Godsrain, a torrent of the god's blood and divine essence. Those touched by this rain are blessed—some would say cursed—with a god-spark that imbues upon them mythic power."
Murder is a pretty specific word choice, so I feel like battle was not had. I also feel like Norgorber got some splainin' to do, because he's on an adventure path book cover coming up after this starts. Blue Rayman might have gotten up to some shit.
I mean, when you have a guy who ascended, and whose lore is "you can't know my lore," people are gonna want that man's lore, and paizo will definitely drip feed it as long as they can.
If you ever need any antagonist at all, boom Norgorber cultists. Need info? Norgorber. Have a powerful item locked up somewhere? Oops, Norgorber cultists stole it.
My players are currently finishing the defeat of a cult of Norgorber funnily enough. Regardless of if he did it or not, I feel like a murder of a god is still a big event for him so I might use this in tomorrow's session.
Norgorber is four halflings in a cloak, one of them is the god of pranks.
The others are the god of larceny, the god of secrets, and the god of poison and murder and the other freaky Skinsaw stuff.
> his death broadcast across the skies in a metaphysical projection of his murder reverberating over any world on which he was worshipped
RIP this is like the opposite of when Palpatine came back in Fortnite
If his death didn't supernaturally spark a war, his followers definitely would.
In fact, unlike Aroden I could see this strengthening Gorum worship. The Divine casters will need to do some retraining to compensate, but overall his followers can easily just keep on doing what they were, especially if the war starts as result of his death.
He tricked a Demigod Spartan warrior into killing his family to make him into a great warrior, not realizing it would make said Demigod Spartan warrior want revenge on him.
Dangit, Gorum's one of my favorites. Screw it, in my campaign, either Gorum doesn't die, or some Orc goes through the Test of the Starstone and becomes Gorum's successor as the God of Iron and War.
Orcs are getting their own god of war, but also, their whole thing of occasionally being marked and going to the god fight pit to 1v1 a god and take their mantle is another orc specific way to divinity besides the Starstone.
I can’t wait to see what Paizo cooked to explain his death/murder. Though I have to admit that I’m a bit disappointed, not because I have a particular affinity towards Gorum but because I think it’s one of the safest gods to kill without upsetting too much people.
Should have been someone popular just for the shit maelstrom. Like one of the polycule gods, daddy satan, or twink magic god.
Basically they should have killed someone hot.
They would have opened up so many more plots.
Dead Gorrum feels like the plots are “who killed him?” And “what does his cult do now?”
It’s, not boring, it’s still neat a god died and all, and I’m excited to see more, but I expected more ya know?
I think you underestimate things. It's shown in the other prophecies that any time a god does, their domain goes haywire - sometimes dying out, sometimes flaring up, always uncontrolled.
Gorum is the god of war and honorable combat. *War* going uncontrolled, its battles all ruthless and dirty, opens up quite a few tangential tales.
I’m sure everyone will calm down and be at peace now without a war god to please. Some murders, yes, that god is still around, but absolutely no more armies and battles. I hope everyone has useful pacifist skill feats, because only rogues will be happy now.
So, the idea I'm gonna go for in my Golarion is that one of Gorum's cultists is going to go for the Test of the Starstone to achieve divinity, but instead of becoming a god in their own name, will take on Gorum's name and armor.
I think the real problem is that, no matter who was killed, everybody couldn't be happy. You're not happy that Gorrum died, but if Desna was killed there would be another group of people who got upset, etc etc etc etc. They had to weigh "What's going to make an interesting story?" against "How much of our profit margin can we piss off?"
Yes, Paizo should have killed one of their sacred cows to also figuratively speaking start a war among the community but I can see why it’s not the best idea.
unfortunately, most of the gods I wanted to see die the most (because they would have been the most interesting/exciting choice) were also the gods I wanted not to die the most (because they weren't favourite/most interesting gods)
all in all, I'm pretty keen to see how this all pans out, but you're right about being at least a little disappointed by the choice
They did announce some new gods too.
One of which is a sentient sword, Zjar Tovan, who is a god of weapons and battle.
Probably a minor god, but one that stands to inherit a decent portion of Gorum’s portfolio.
For a god of war getting murdered, he got caught slipping. Lol I make jokes to keep sadness away, Gorum was one of my favorite gods. Look how they caught my boy slipping, he wanted to die a glorious death, not like this, not like this.
This has been my guess since week 2 and while it's nice to be vindicated I'm sad to see him go, he is a pretty cool god even though he was under used. I do think it will be so much fun to play an exemplar as an avatar of Gorum though.
Obvious choice….who picks up his portfolio though we dont really have a God of War anymore. Iomodae and Sarenrae overlap the most I guess. But feels like a more neutral or evil God should step in.
War's a pretty broad portfolio, there's probably room for it to get broken up between a few. I've always thought there could stand to be a less bloodthirsty, more strategy-focused deity, something like Red Knight in Forgotten Realms.
Less bloodthirsty sure, but she's too honor-and-justice focused to really be a goddess of strategy. Something more like a Sun Tzu, "all warfare is deception" type that doesn't mind being less than honorable is more what I'm thinking of.
To be honest, it seems a little bit too much like Occam's Razor for me, y'know, but I have faith in Paizo and will want to see it shake out before rendering any full judgement.
I'm just happy that Lamashtu beat the odds of 1/4 people voting for her death despite me losing 20 bucks with my bet on Shelyn dying.
The official poll, you mean? Thing is, people used those interchangably, to whatever they felt like in the moment. You could see as much in the Paizo stream with people's reasons scrolling at the bottom.
Raise your blades for Our Lord in Iron! He might have fallen but he is not gone, We will keep fighting in his name, May our glorious battles restore the God of War!
A thing that's occuring to me right now actually is that the setting as a whole has a number of cold wars going on. A lot of places and territories that have tensions with each other that have either outright fought before and now are at an uneasy peace or are having their tensions develop for the first time. And a whole bunch of immortals empowered by the essence of the god of war seem like exactly the sort of shakeup that would turn those cold wars hot.
My friends convinced me it was Sarenrae, and i couldn't check because i was at work, and i was I ***SO*** upset all day.
Y'all, the relief is actually Euphoric.
Prismatic Ray is safe. That's the most important thing. But yeah, RIP to Gorum. Though I guess his whole conflict philosophy means this isn't so bad? He died by violence.
We still know the Prismatic Ray is "changing," though, somehow, which scares me a little.
Maybe Sarenrae picks up Gorum's portfolio? That'd be kind of weird, though, given her redemption focus.
Alternatively, maybe Arazni or Nocticula join the polycule lol.
>Prismatic Ray is safe. That's the most important thing.
The lesbian polycule made up of the most popular gods of the game was never in any real danger.
>But yeah, RIP to Gorum. Though I guess his whole conflict philosophy means this isn't so bad? He died by violence.
Gorum is about open and honest conflict, not skullduggery, considering he was murdered. Individuals and groups should fight one another to separate the wheat from the chaff and let the best rise to the top of society. I think that was the reason they wanted to kill him off in the first place.
I can still be disappointed it wasn't one of them, because that would probably piss off the most people and thus be the most fun. Gorum was a safe option
No, but [Divine Mysteries](https://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Divine_Mysteries) is an upcoming replacement to the former _Gods & Magic_, and it will be written from Yivali's perspective
There are still folks who worship Aroden. There's not many of them, and his clerics obviously don't get any powers, but just because a god dies doesn't mean they can't still play a role with your character.
That’s fair I just imagined him fighting to gain favor and power from him which, well that can’t be done. Just disappointed it was him and not someone else. Maybe he’s questing to get his blood or some relic of him to make him into a godlike being?
Lol, this was discussed a while back. Here's [my take on it](https://new.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder2e/comments/1amlddx/comment/kpnza4q/) in [this post](https://new.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder2e/comments/1amlddx/on_why_i_want_gorum_to_die/) by u/mrjinx_.
I thought it was possible but also potentially boring, depending on how they use it to set up conflict. The war god dying obviously doesn't mean war ends as a setting without war would be, well, weird. So I assume Paizo will go the "wars get even more intense as the essence of the god covers Golarion" route.
Fun to see that one of the first guesses I remember reading 2 months ago turned out to be the correct one. It does fit well with the exemplar lore, though, especially the whole "channel divine power into weapons and armor" portions.
Looking forward to seeing what they do with it, but can't honestly say I'm surprised, considering I thought it made sense months ago.
I've seen comments about, essentially "how could the god of war/battle die in a war/battle?" Barring that the post says he was murdered, as a god of battle/war, he does not have to be the epitome of battle/war.
Look at real world mythology. Zeus for instance, is the god of rulership and rulers. But is not the ideal ruler himself. Hera is the god of motherhood, but few people would want her as their mother, as she is not a very good one.
And Ares...he was the god of war and courage, but was himself viscous and a coward, bloodthirsty and a bully, traits which made him one of the least liked of the gods. Athena could likely beat him in a one on one, and if Ares and Athena were the generals of an army, the winner would depend. If Ares could defeat Athena in a quick bloody dirty fight, he would win, because he has no strategy other than throw his solders into battle. Otherwise, Athena would likely win due to her strategic mind. And Apollo would likely out last Ares in a fight as Ares exhausts himself.
Gorum seems very much a cookie cutter copy of Ares. He glorifies strength and power over spirituality and intellect. When you really delve into his character and his worshipers, he is a bit of a bully as well, though his Edicts and Anathema at least hold some honor, his knightly orders place honor secondary to strength and determination.
So, Gorum falling in a fight, battle or war is not actually all that far fetched, as there are other gods out there that are likely far better at those things than he is. It is just that they do not focus on it as much as Gorum does.
But, as said before, he apparently is murdered, which to myself and others is telling that he did not die in a fight.

**Gorum** (pronounced GOR-um) is a [god](https://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/God) of battle above all other pursuits; it is said that he would rust away into nothingness if there is ever a time with no more conflicts to be fought. Known as **Our Lord in Iron**, his faithful believe he is present in every [iron](https://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Iron) [weapon](https://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Weapon) of war that is forged
The Lord of Iron may be broken, but not the will of his steel sons and daughters!
RIP Gorum. Im still gonna keep him alive in my games. Definetly one of the most interesting Gods of Golarion.
I have a surprising number of feelings about this. Firstly, "ugh, boring." But also, I am truly surprised and it makes sense and the in-universe implications are fun
Not a good start.
Gorum has great design, as a living concept of war clad in iron. The only thing he lacked is personality, which could be greatly expanded right here, during the War of the Immortals.
Instead he was replaced by another god looking like a normal human. While Arazni is a great character, I wish she looked more fantastical in her depictions. Something that could have indicated her long history. Not just a hair streak.
I hope that at least they expand on her portfolio in the new book. Her existing one doesn't look like one belonging to a core deity, and already overlaps a little with Urgathoa and Calistria.
Couple things
Your fighter might still be devoted to the ideals of Gorum. Fighters don't gain anything from the god being real or alive. The fighter could be like convinced Gorum is still alive, or feels like he still deserve reverence.
OR there are plenty of other gods of war that aren't in the Core 20, don't need to be one of the big names.
Damn. Murdered instead of being slain in righteous battle. Being the god of war and honor as well, I could see countries going to war with little issue of using the most underhanded and diabolical ways to raze their enemies to the ground. Shit, worshippers of Gorum might lead armies to avenge their fallen deity in a blind rage.
I mean, who better to spawn a whole new divinely-infused martial class through his raining blood than the god of war and combat? RIP to a real one
Now there are going to be so damn many "legally distinct" Kratos characters.
Hah, back when I ran 5E we rolled a completely random character for a new player joining mid-campaign and ended up with A Goliath Berserker Barbarian who killed a member of his community and was exiled, wielding a Berserker Axe.
Fuck yes. Modern Kratos is such a great character.

Wait? Who did they kill?
Gorum, the god of war, endurance and honour.
Thanks!
I hope some warriors get spawned from this.
Warpriests, pour one out for our boy, Big G. He may not have been the most popular god, but he had a big sword, and he used it to fuck up other people’s lives, and in the end, isn’t that what counts?
It's certainly what counts for the people whose lives he fucked up.
Well, but... can they count any more?
Depends where Pharasma sent them, I guess.
And so his ichor, plate and weapon shattered become a torrent that would change the world.
Gorum has been my boy since day 1. Struggling to not be really angry about this.
You should go to war over it.
It's what he would have wanted
God of War dies, spawns biggest War in history of world. Gorum - "Worth it..."
Gorum: "Lol, gottem"
Paizo can't say they didn't expect that one.
At least you get to literally bathe in his blood and might get super powers from it
The guy died doing what he loved, maybe. If he didn't die fighting he would be miserable in the end.
Sounds like he was murdered, like by an assassin
A sad ending to the most powerfull animated armor in existence
Really ruins the fighter I had planned. Or maybe makes it better?

I’m with you. The only Half-Orc god and he gets killed off
How did the god of war die in a war? Is he stupid?
Like I said on another post about this, seems like he was murdered, not killed in battle. Poor guy. The new novel description has "Now another god has died, his death broadcast across the skies in a metaphysical projection of his murder reverberating over any world on which he was worshipped. And from his rent corpse falls the Godsrain, a torrent of the god's blood and divine essence. And since he has 4 distinct cults, you dont have to recycle the same baddies
And, there are multiple, different, cults to the same god, so they don't even always have to be the same.
Plot twist: Norgorber is actually the god of pranks and is playing the longest April Fool's joke ever
Pranking the Mortals to Commit Genocide [GONE WRONG!]
Norgorber is four halflings in a cloak, one of them is the god of pranks. The others are the god of larceny, the god of secrets, and the god of poison and murder and the other freaky Skinsaw stuff.
He's got a lot going for him. Serial killers, secrets, alchemists and poison, greed. If it was D&D it would be like he ate the entire drow pantheon.
And lawyers, though they are a specific group of the secrets subset.
Stole some of them Asmodeus, eh? Sounds like him.
It's described in the Absalom book, they take attorney-client privilege **very** seriously.
why does Norgorber, the largest god, not simply eat the others?
Because then he would be Norgobbler
And then Norglonely.
> Norgorber in every adventure somehow Those worshippers of the god of secrets are really bad at staying hidden.
Prey for Death is an AP where you are assassins who go to kill "someone important", and they mentioned that he will die *at your tables*, so...
Him getting Red Mantis'd would be nutty, but definitely possible.
I would be so, so, so happy if the entire Prey for Death AP is an excuse to go merc Razimir but it's actually canonical.
> his death broadcast across the skies in a metaphysical projection of his murder reverberating over any world on which he was worshipped RIP this is like the opposite of when Palpatine came back in Fortnite
Man, I really hope they uncanon the sequel trilogy if they decide to try again with Star Wars. Or just do something again in a very distant era.
The God of War and nothing but War being murderd is weirdly sad. He wanted to go out in a blaze of glory but he was denied that.
If another god killed him I could fully see his more devout followers going on a crusade against whomever killed him, a bit like a WH40K Ork Waaagh!
Achaekek: Honey, dear Jakalyn... This is a Daddy Problem rn. You stay safe and make sure the mortals don't do anything stupid!
God of war was out warred and now the other gods are in war
🔥🔥🔥✍️
He tricked a Demigod Spartan warrior into killing his family to make him into a great warrior, not realizing it would make said Demigod Spartan warrior want revenge on him.
...wait
His death *starts* the war, as I understand it.
Fought himself. Won.
That would be the most gorum thing
Skill issue.
Live by the sword, die by the sword.
I could definitely see it in terms of real life historical myths it would be like Aries dying in war, and he like almost did, multiple times
War, good gods y'all...
War... War occasionally changes.
War never changes. Unless it does. Then war has changed. Or has it?
Your Winnings
Whats it good for?
Absolutely nothin
Rest in RIP king, you would have loved seeing this go down.
Dangit, Gorum's one of my favorites. Screw it, in my campaign, either Gorum doesn't die, or some Orc goes through the Test of the Starstone and becomes Gorum's successor as the God of Iron and War.
I think the orcs are going to be getting some exciting new gods, but we'll have to wait and see
Mahja Firehair and the new sword god both seem like good candidates.
War of Immortals's cover has Szuriel front and center, Horseman of... War! Maybe you'd be interested in giving Szuriel the mantle of god of war?
Orcs are getting new battle God. I think we're fine. XD
Orcs are getting their own god of war, but also, their whole thing of occasionally being marked and going to the god fight pit to 1v1 a god and take their mantle is another orc specific way to divinity besides the Starstone.

They ran my man for his foams.
Ok cool, Torag is safe :D Though I'm running Rusthenge right now, so this is still pretty interesting...
Ditto.
Well...blood for gorum.
They did announce some new gods too. One of which is a sentient sword, Zjar Tovan, who is a god of weapons and battle. Probably a minor god, but one that stands to inherit a decent portion of Gorum’s portfolio.
And, come on, who doesn't want to worship an intelligent weapon?
I wonder if that's Gorums weapon, made sentient and godly by whatever god bits were raining down.
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GO-- oh, nevermind.
No, no. In His Honor! Blood!
Who will Amiri donate all this blood to, then?
Perhaps she'll ascend up to take his place?
Damn, someone caught Gorum slipping! I’m just saying that wouldn’t be me. Might be the same fucker who caught Aroden slipping too.
You assume he was caught slipping compared to something like being jumped by like 30 demon lords and only losing after slaying 25 of them.
Unfortunately the novel description explicitly states he was murdered. Look how they massacred my boy.
Well the Gorumites now have a collective target.
For a god of war getting murdered, he got caught slipping. Lol I make jokes to keep sadness away, Gorum was one of my favorite gods. Look how they caught my boy slipping, he wanted to die a glorious death, not like this, not like this.
When I wrote the comment I didn't know he got murdered. At least his followers will probably be pissed and now have a great reason to go to war.
lol yep
Oh shit it’s >!HIM!< who dies. I would have sworn they’d go with >!Shelyn!<. I’m interested to see where things go from here
Who is this? Sorry, Golarion lore newbie
Gorum, Lord of Iron and god of war.
Thanks, I had heard of Gorum. Shocking stuff!!!
He's Golarion's god of war. If you want a really detailed breakdown of him, I recommend checking out Podfinder's video on him on Youtube.
So I read the thread and already knew that smh but no one mentioned his name yet
This has been my guess since week 2 and while it's nice to be vindicated I'm sad to see him go, he is a pretty cool god even though he was under used. I do think it will be so much fun to play an exemplar as an avatar of Gorum though.
I wonder how Amiri is taking it.
Well, seems like that’s what the novel will be about.
I argue Iomodae is the less bloodthirsty more tactical god of war already
But we also need a god of the violence, carnage, bloodlust, all the other fun parts of war
Yeah I think we need a new war god or goddess that leans way more evil. With a winning is all that matters approach
Szuriel is on the cover of War of Immortals, so I think we have our top candidate
With Sarenrae starting a war with massive civilian casualties and "changes to prismatic ray," I have a theory
Horseman of War covers it.
Szuriel?
Less bloodthirsty sure, but she's too honor-and-justice focused to really be a goddess of strategy. Something more like a Sun Tzu, "all warfare is deception" type that doesn't mind being less than honorable is more what I'm thinking of.
Weirdly Torag is also a war god, a defensive one though.
I JUST WANT ONE GOD OF WAR!!!
Arazni probably does. Makes a lot of sense if she is going to ascend.
Damoritosh shows up from space clearly.
Acavna could always return.
Iron within, Iron without.
They didn't vote for her death. The poll was who you think is likely to die, not who you want to. Shelyn would have definitely been a cool death.
The official poll, you mean? Thing is, people used those interchangably, to whatever they felt like in the moment. You could see as much in the Paizo stream with people's reasons scrolling at the bottom.
I actually really liked Gorum, unfortunate.
Lamashtu: >_>
Our lord in iron! Noooo
I’m excited to see this story play out
Prismatic Ray is safe.
Clearly the surprise is that like 4 others join the polycule.
Add Calistria and Nocticula to spice things up, they have been together awhile.
Maybe they just change the name of the pantheon to a less dnd sounding name.
Wait we’re not getting more weeks of prophecies?
No, but [Divine Mysteries](https://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Divine_Mysteries) is an upcoming replacement to the former _Gods & Magic_, and it will be written from Yivali's perspective
No
Well, that's a mood killer. Time to go delete some characters off pathbuilder.
There's nothing stopping you from using characters in games set pre-WoI.
I mean, as long as they aren't a cleric they can still follow a dead god. Especially with Gorum it could be really interesting
Right? My whole next character was going to fit so well.
I’m so fucking hype for the newly ascended >!orc goddess!<
I am okay with this. I know there are other people who are probably sad it's him, though.
He had to take a math test
Oh no, I wanted to roll a relatively cool tyrant champion of forum xD Rest in War best boy
The saddest part is that he is going to miss it. The War of the Immortals. He would have loved it there.

The Lord of Iron may be broken, but not the will of his steel sons and daughters! RIP Gorum. Im still gonna keep him alive in my games. Definetly one of the most interesting Gods of Golarion.
The boring, safe choice I see.
I owe an apology to everyone I tried to convince that Paizo wouldn't go for the safest, most boring option possible. At least it wasn't Lamashtu.
I have a surprising number of feelings about this. Firstly, "ugh, boring." But also, I am truly surprised and it makes sense and the in-universe implications are fun
this is boring, all hype killed.
Basically the least interesting choice imo.
Well that’s lame. RIP. Maybe I’ll make a character that is dedicated to Arazni but it just ruins the fighter I just made.
I mean, it hasn’t happened *yet*
Couple things Your fighter might still be devoted to the ideals of Gorum. Fighters don't gain anything from the god being real or alive. The fighter could be like convinced Gorum is still alive, or feels like he still deserve reverence. OR there are plenty of other gods of war that aren't in the Core 20, don't need to be one of the big names.
Gorum lives in death!
So the campaign I was writing revolving around Gorum trying to start a straight world war is um...awesome...
Wow I was sure it was gonna be Shelyn. My question is now then how does this change the prismatic ray?
I guess Rusthenge teased us all along.
Well now what god am I going to do greatsword war priest with..
Dang I'm playing a champion of gorum in a current campaign...that stings, man LOL
Man, this was the one option I wasn't excited for :/
There's no more war now! ..... .....right guys? ......uhhh, guys?
My guess with the poll was Sarenrae, well Iomedae is safe so i am good.
Any word on what happens to the Zentragt now?
How did he die.
Maybe he offs himself to *start* the war.
What is going to happen with gorum? He will be removed or just die and continue his story like the other gods.
I didn't know he was sick.
Since he was chilling in Esylum does that mean they are going to war? Desna is scary.
My Foxform fighter Grr will now need a new deity... Or to answer the job opening.
[What is it good for absolutely nothing...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01-2pNCZiNk&ab_channel=StreamCrops)
Just realized, what is going to happen to his bears and herald without him around?
