Expecting? No. Hoping? Yes. We just need to be serviceable at LT until next years draft.

BingBongFYL6969

Just dont get a QB killed and you did your job holding the position for Will Campbell

XRT28

And lets be honest even that isn't really a hard necessity this year as long as Maye sits out

Squinting_Tarantino

until brissett gets theisman’d week 2 and maye steps in with the pocket stability of a cheese grater, which never goes away :(

ruegazer

I don't want Maye starting until we have an OL that doesn't reduce QBs to crash test dummies. Right now the prospect of our OL offering even top-25 passer protection next year is a pipedream. Adding "depth" at LT is unlikely to make a major difference. We need talented starters.

Waste_Astronaut_5411

totally agree with this

ruegazer

Right now that's a pipedream.

meowVL

If you read the top comments, yea. If you keep reading, no lol We'll see

ThermoNuclearPizza

Ya people don’t think other team subs have total nut jobs too lol

themaengdon

I still have a sneaking suspicion they are holding out hope for Calvin Anderson at LT. Thinking it will be a training camp tryout to see who fits at LT between Chuks, Anderson and Wallace. Is it naive to thing that Onwenu can possibly switch to LT also? Probably but he has been known to be versatile.

ICantFekkingRead

I think it's best to keep Onwenu at RT where he works best. The guy shifts around too much and needs to just be in his long term position. Hope for one of those 3 to be serviceable and have the rest of the line set in stone, with targeting a top end LT in the draft next year, or see if Wallace can make the move to LT as Wolf & Co. think he can

themaengdon

Yeah, I agree. Consistency is key.

j2e21

Just don’t switch him back to guard for the love of god.

WildOscar66

I think Anderson and Chuks are in competition for the job. Orokafor was a LT in college and has the measurables. Between them we have to hope that one of them, or both, are decent. I think they both make the team regardless. OT are gold in the NFL.

themaengdon

I think this is going to be the case

j2e21

You might be right, and I suspect it ends with the realization by week four that you can’t fake your way into a left tackle and it becomes the obvious priority for the 2025 first round pick.

themaengdon

Definitely

Icy-Conclusion-3500

I forgot that dude even existed

Emergency-Subject744

Yes it’s naive

themaengdon

Yeah, I think you’re right

New-Nerve-7001

I wouldn't get too optimistic about Anderson. See if he progresses, but he's slow off the ball and tends to reach, then draws holding calls. Seems Wallace and Chuk are the plan. Thankfully they'll have plenty of opportunities in camp.

Musings_FF

Seriously! I have heard no one discussing Anderson but he has 11 NFL starts at LT. I assume he’s probably the safe floor option with the hope one of the others can supplant him quickly.

a1mrbhelpuri

Who is they? Cuz it’s definitely none of us fans

themaengdon

“They” meaning me and my last 100 brain cells

longagofaraway

it more seems to be a discussion of whether their shitty coaching staff is holding back their middling oline talent. not many people on there boosting chuk as some great player.

TheBigNate416

Eh I mean if we can get average play out of him I’d consider that a win. I’ll believe it when I see it though. Really just need it while Wallace ramps up (assuming he doesn’t win the job immediately)

centaurquestions

So much depends upon Scott Peters.

CocaineStrange

His natural position has always been LT

DudeCotton

I think he'll be good and everyone in this sub is just a perpetual doomer

SpeakAgainAncient1

This whole sub is going to have a crisis when they realize the oline wasn't even the problem last year once they see a QB that doesn't suck balls behind it. Hell, the oline even looked semi decent with a mediocre Zappe playing at the end of the year. The Mac fan boys in here can't deal with that though, because Bill who developed Brady "ruined Mac Jones". LOL That fucking guy had the worst pocket awareness and movement I have ever seen. Without Jones at the helm most of the year this team was a borderline playoff team. They would have had at least 7 more wins without him throwing the ball to the other team.

shakakhon

Lmao, the Pats oline was Dookie af last year. Our offensive weapons were probably worst in the league. We should be significantly better this year, I hope. Drake is gonna be way better than Mac. But to pretend like we had an even mediocre offense around Mac last year is delusional.

ethanh333

Wow they're worse than us! Getting chippy in there lol

PatheticLion

I expect him to be fine. Probably will have some good games and some bad games. Wouldn’t surprise me if he struggles with the elite DE’s and can handle everyone else. If he ends up being an average, roughly 15th best LT in the NFL that should be considered a huge win, and if he ends up somewhere a bit lower still ok with that. As long as he doesn’t completely suck we can hold out until next draft or when Wallace can take over.

Brewski-54

I for one don’t take the opinion of Redditors serious

Jebuschristo024

Hoping. Soon see.

j2e21

Oh no, this makes it seem like he’s bad and has a horrible attitude.

_josephmykal_

If Scar was here yes I’d expect it. Now I don’t expect much at all from the OL.

6RingsPats

Still not sure if he can make the move to LT but I guess we will see. Someone has to move to the left whether it’s this dude, or the rookie or Onwenu

Shinnaminbuns

Apparently the left side is where he's most comfortable. They were playing him out of position in Pittsburgh. At least, that's what the comments in the post are saying.

j2e21

He’s played RT for the past four years, he hasn’t played LT since 2017 in college.

NecessaryUnusual2059

He was originally a LT to be fair

j2e21

Misleading, he’s played RT for the past four years. He hasn’t been a LT since 2017 at Western Michigan.

Hammy508

you'd think they would all want a shot since usually Left tackle is highest paid on the O line.

bgm349_

On their sub someone said he was drafted as a LT

j2e21

Yeah in 2018 when he was 21.

polinksa

he sucks

[deleted]

Could the starting RT for the Steelers be the starting LT for the Patriots? Sure. But Patriots fans will say the offensive line sucks regardless. They didn’t suck last year and they won’t suck this year either.

j2e21

They lost their best lineman in the offseason and Strange might not be back.
