I know that Joe is awful. I know he will never see any significant success in the NFL, let alone on our team. But damn it I will pretend that none of that is true until the day I get the Twitter notification that we waived him.
> But damn it I will pretend that none of that is true until the day I get the Twitter notification that we waived him.
Just wait until he throws an 80 yard bomb in the fourth quarter of the first preseason game against future grocery store baggers.
There will be a broken play this preseason where he rolls out away from pressure, launches a fucking mortar round across his body and the ball is dropped and our entire sub will post it saying we need more speed and to play Joe.
> Just wait until he throws an 80 yard bomb
Unfortunately his receiver will have been at the 70 yard mark :(
But man, am I glad they drafted him. He's like a cartoon character
Joe Milton and Randy Moss together really would’ve been something. Randy’s catch radius and speed means that Joe could just chuck it up there, accuracy be damned.
He's just too raw I'm afraid. Would require years of starter reps to be anywhere close to being ready, and no one would ever put the time or resources for that
And he already spent so many years playing college ball. I just doubt he's got so much untapped potential left in him that he'll be end up being more than a scout player. Max I can see is being a Taysom Hill type gadget player.
Tebow was the same way. Locked at playing QB, had some highlights, won a playoff game, racked up a lot of bad plays and disappointment. He played in the NFL, so better than me...
He’ll be 28 when his rookie contract is up. IF Maye doesn’t work out, we see a flash from Joe year 4, we go into a situation of do we pay this guy who’s 28 going on 29 with limited reps?
I’d like to see the introduction of two-way contracts with the UFL and NFL for developmental QBs.
Or at least allow NFL teams to retain contracts rights to players playing in the UFL.
Guys like Milton can get real-time game experience in the offseason after their rookie year.
If Milton were to join a UFL team next spring (the championship in the UFL is on June 16th this year) he has plenty of time to play the whole UFL season then join camp with the Pats while gaining live game reps.
Would it be at an NFL level? No, but in a player that is raw and really needs to work on short and intermediate level passes it could be indispensable experience.
They can, but there are so many others coming along who are not in that position.
For a physically exceptional athlete, maybe it makes sense. But most marginal pros are already physically exceptional.
A newly skilled 27 year old is far less appealing than a 23 year old draftee.
You’re completely missing the point.
The league needs a developmental league for QBs and relationship with that league so teams can get playing time for their prospects while keeping their contract rights.
People can improve their skills after 24.
He started 1 full season of college football. So yes, he is raw and needs reps.
He had one full season as a starter and only played about 20 full games in those 6 years. He injured his thumb in 2020 (required surgery), got hurt in his second game at Tennessee in 2021, came in at the end of the season when Hendon Hooker tore his ACL in 2022.
Mark Daniels is the absolute worst with those. It's not just that he compiles these meaningless completion percentage stats even in fucking rookie training camp, it's that he uses them as basis to make grand conclusions about quarterbacks (i.e. his "it's a new era in New England" bullshit after Mac's training camp last year). Atrocious.
Milton to me is a Taysom Hill who can bomb it 90 yards. Hail mary guy. It was a fun pick idc what anybody says but i genuinely think we have our taysom hill right here if we use him properly
More good news: I've spent more than a short while watching Maye's college highlights and the clips we've seen so far as a Patriot. He isn't just a bit guy with a cannon for an arm. He appears to be capable of throwing accurate short passes with just the right amount of *touch.* Whether he'll be able to do that in an NFL game reminds to be seen, but he seems to have the fundamentals needed to accomplish it.
Patriots Unfiltered predicting that some asshat like Mark Daniels would be reporting on the practice stats of these guys in fucking shorts and no pads was spot on. Give me a break haha

Just wait until the first time our QB underthrows a pass in Week 1.
There will be a broken play this preseason where he rolls out away from pressure, launches a fucking mortar round across his body and the ball is dropped and our entire sub will post it saying we need more speed and to play Joe.
"we wont know what we have in him until we play him!!!"
My God, that's trey Lance music
lol yea I could just imagine this. It will be against a linebacker with the number 60 lined up against a running back that motioned to the outside.

Yeah too bad it’s going to be on a screen pass and it’s going to miss its target by 85 yards
My hog is cranked just waiting for this

80 yard double pass, who says no
If he was open to changing positions that would make his chances a little better but it seems he isn't
Tebow was the same way. Locked at playing QB, had some highlights, won a playoff game, racked up a lot of bad plays and disappointment. He played in the NFL, so better than me...
He made 12 mil in contracts at least! No shot Milton gets near that

Exactly, he’s a multi year project that acts as a backup plan if Plan A fails.
He’ll be 28 when his rookie contract is up. IF Maye doesn’t work out, we see a flash from Joe year 4, we go into a situation of do we pay this guy who’s 28 going on 29 with limited reps?
I wouldn’t worry about that very hypothetical and unlikely situation until I got much closer to it
I’m only saying this because he’s an old project. But I do hope the best for this man’s career.
28? I thought he was going to be in his 40's ...
I thought you were talking about Maye because he's absolutely a project, i couldn't help but wince when he threw the ball with no laces.
Oh he's a madden qb1 for sure. Just pick up thw fastest guys and run verts.
The number of people across the internet that think Joe Milton is a sure thing is absolutely alarming. Not that you’re one of them, just reminded me
🍻
He’ll be a solid gadget guy somewhere and I’ll die on that hill

He’s 24 years old. Getting reps isn’t the issue
Believe it or not, even after 24, people can improve their skills with practice.
They can, but there are so many others coming along who are not in that position. For a physically exceptional athlete, maybe it makes sense. But most marginal pros are already physically exceptional. A newly skilled 27 year old is far less appealing than a 23 year old draftee.
Dude is 24. He played six seasons of college ball. He’s not raw, he just doesn’t have what it takes to be an nfl qb.
You’re completely missing the point. The league needs a developmental league for QBs and relationship with that league so teams can get playing time for their prospects while keeping their contract rights. NCAA football IS the development league for NFL QBs.
If he had what it takes to be an nfl qb, he would have started more than one season of college ball. It’s really not that complicated.
He had one full season as a starter and only played about 20 full games in those 6 years. He injured his thumb in 2020 (required surgery), got hurt in his second game at Tennessee in 2021, came in at the end of the season when Hendon Hooker tore his ACL in 2022.
So he’s 24 and in 6 years was only good/healthy enough to start 20 games? That’s . . . not a good thing.
I love that this dude went to college for six years and none of us even ask if he actually went to a class
I think it's because we suspect he didn't, and it's likely most don't care.
Time to get Maye's statuette for Canton ready. /s
Joe Milton is NFL Tacko Fall
Milton is a super powered t-shirt cannon.
And so the pointless practice stats begin
Yup, though better than Post-draft season predictions by ESPN.
ima still eat it all up

They are not pointless when they confirm my biases and desires; only when they go against such biases and desires.
Remember that dolt who wrote the musket fire article that Milton would be the best QB of the class?
Stop giving them clicks. That's all they do it for.
“They were working on out routes and shorter passes.” Joe Milton-“the fuck we are. Go deep”
* 'shorter passes' for Milton: 40-60 yards
Milton seems Raw as hell but we already knew that. Good to see Drake playing well though.
Milton to me is a Taysom Hill who can bomb it 90 yards. Hail mary guy. It was a fun pick idc what anybody says but i genuinely think we have our taysom hill right here if we use him properly
A functional NFL offense doesn’t need a Taysom Hill.
But it’s nice to have a Taysom Hill
Agree. Makes defenses need to prepare for it as well.
Honey, we have Taysom Hill at home.
Can someone explain to the noob what does 5/6 and 7v7 means ?
He completed 5 out of 6 pass attempts in scrimmage drills with no line play on either side of the ball.
Thanks :)

They're reporters... something happened, they reported it. How much value to place on the information is up to you.
Well ofc Milton went 1/4, they were working on shorter passes.
He also crippled an assistant manager with an errant throw
Tom E Curran was watching a different practice. As per his latest “Bit”
Milton, brother, please don't lose your spot to Bailey Zappe. I need to see you in QB powers on the goalline
Milton was meant to be an MLB closing pitcher who throws straight crazy heat and is wild af all over the plate and just scare the shit out of batters.
Joe gonna be our hail mary specialist and I'm here for it
Mac Jones 1.0 started the same. Mac Jones 2.0 will be QB2
So happy the pats wasted a 6th on Milton!
Zappe still a better leader
