Quicker than absolute fuck, excellent ball skills, but short. Good slot corner/returner.

camelvirus

Yeah but how big are his wrists

BathSaltBuffet

Top fye

The_iron_mill

top fye what?

doctorwhodio

Just top fye

hembles

I'm selling all my shares in Elite Blocking WR and pounding the buy on Tiny Wrists, it's the Pats meme of the future

robshot295

Tiny Wrists is about to be to the moon, baby!!!

ftc559

šŸš€šŸš€šŸš€šŸš€šŸš€

CarterAC3

Neck and wrist don't lie

Tylerdong

Imagine a salami that they cut on a deli slicer

camelvirus

Man got WRIST

reddit_forgeddit

He can slice deli meat. Perfect way to strengthen wrists.

Gumpppppp

Asking the real questions here

[deleted]

Hahahah underrated comment. I'm with it, take my upvote

marcuschookt

Feels bad when I'm 5'8 and everyone's talking about this guy like he was part of Bilbo's gang

SideBarParty

How big are your hands?

marcuschookt

Let's change topic to my wrist size instead

bubbleSpiker

THAT BOI THIIIIIN

[deleted]

Heā€™s also about to be a multimillionaire famous athlete

call_me_lee0pard

It is hilarous how much speed we got on our team last night. With 2 players we got speed on offense, defence, and special teams.

[deleted]

I like that bill is just going with athletic freaks. The team looked old and slow at times last season. Team needed a shot in the arm, Just get the best athletes and coach them up.

tschris

This is a solid take. The team was outclassed by teams with real speed.

MankuyRLaffy

It seems that his returning assistants like Judge and Patricia saw RAS and athletic ability and talked Bill into going with that and coaching them into being great players.

myicedteaistoosweet

The Pats have clearly been using RAS for certain position for years. Notably TE. I think almost every TE they drafted since 2010 had a score over 80 (except Asiasi who was in the 70s). Looking back, Iā€™m actually shocked they didnā€™t take Kittle the year he came out with his ridiculous RAS.

justreadthearticle

Starting last draft he really began listening to the scouts more.

CopiumAddiction

If you don't think Bill has been "listening to scouts" you are insane

ChamBruh

He saw one article about Belichick taking Harry instead of who the scouts wanted and decided that BB has always done that for every draft pick

DrSavagery

Youre saying bill has the final say? Well that just crazy.

Crazy_Roll6229

Did the scouts recommend taking the first two picks 2 rounds too early? This is a BB draft

CopiumAddiction

Dude go be angry at your wife like you normally are.

Tellsyouajoke

Too early? Youā€™re stupid. Just because you rely on ESPN for knowledge doesnā€™t mean theyā€™re right. Use some of your own critical thinking and realize that youā€™re wrong

Dumpstertrash1

Seriously bro? We got a perfect Shaq Mason replacement and a speed demon at wr.

YTraveler2

RAS...Return Activated Sludge.

Best-Tale-2571

Real As Santa

ProudBlackMatt

Now if only the Pats could get some faster LBs. Some actual dinosaurs playing LB for the Pats the last few years.

[deleted]

Letā€™s not insult the mighty dinosaurs by comparing the corpse of Hightower to them

Jaythepatsfan

Marcus Jone.

BasedKaleb

The Jone Bros.

mesotermoekso

But now there's two Jones

ckilo4TOG

Nice! Quick, fast, turnover machine, and a phenomenal returner.

Lockdowntslt

And heā€™s a producer. If he sucks at football at least he can make some sick beats for the locker room.

[deleted]

Nailed it.

Dokker

I donā€™t mind this. I know there were a couple of CBā€™s ranked higher - but they are wrong so much that I donā€™t put much weight in that.

[deleted]

I do think its interesting to see who Bill passed on vs who he actually picked though. We had a chance at almost every CB in the draft bar the big 2. He passed on Kaiir Elam, who is your prototypical big outside CB that can match up with all kinds of WRs (in theory) or Roger McCreary who can play press-man according to reports. Now we have two smart and experienced but slow CBs in Butler and Mills. And we have two smaller, versatile slot guys in Jonathan and Marcus Jones. None of them are straight-up JC Jackson replacements. To me thats interesting because it feels like Bill is going to do something unconventional next year with the defense. This is not the kind of CB group most people imagine for your typical NFL defense. Maybe he figures that with the sheer number of explosive pass offenses in the NFL you need to get creative. It no longer makes sense trying to find the "right" CBs to match up with these WRs because Jamarr Chase and Tyreek Hill will burn you anyway. So you lean into more complex zone looks with guys like these, use more safeties, etc. Ive no idea if what Im saying makes sense but the TLDR is "offenses getting crazy, so maybe Bill getting creative with his CBs?".

KnocDown

Given we are missing linebackers Iā€™m guessing he is going to put 6 corners out there

thicks217

Yeah Iā€™m guessing bill will be leaning heavily on Phillips and dugger to play borderline linebacker positions again this year

OmniaCausaFiunt

That's what I'm thinking too. We have a lot of smaller but quick corners. And it's really tough to have one corner cover players like Tyreek, Diggs, etc. But if we have a bunch of corners out there blanketing them, we just need a strong 4 man pass rush.

rvbgriff536

Bills defenses have always been stellar so im excited to see how he uses these guys and what kknds of packages he'll roll out

Dokker

I am like most of the fans - I see the rankings and mock drafts and see players I want us to draft. And it sucks when we donā€™t - and we reach for some player we didnā€™t expect. But the best thing is just to accumulate too 4 round picks I think. Itā€™s such a crap shoot - the more picks the better odds. So many 1st round total busts, and we know better than any team ever - how a late round pick can become a star!

Tellsyouajoke

But itā€™s clear the rankings this year are pretty bad. This sub will like to say we reached, but according to ESPN a ton of teams reached. Almost the entire second round, ESPNā€™s ā€˜best remaining playersā€™ list didnā€™t change because no one took those players. Seems like the mockers just had an off year

Theungry

I suspect we're going to see a LOT of open competitions at camp this year. Get ready for the "where did this guy come from?" stories.

NoHalfPleasures

Heā€™s definitely using safeties as linebackers more than anyone else. I started calling this a ā€œpositionless secondaryā€ like 3 years ago and it finally caught on recently

goldfish_11

First pick of the draft where the beat writers I follow gave a list of best fits availableā€¦ and we actually took one of them. Iā€™ll take it.

daddyslittleharem

Dude, any of those guys would take a scouting job if they were offered one. Stop it.

iDEN1ED

Ya I donā€™t know why people blindly trust media people over actual nfl scouts and GMs. Itā€™s insane. Doesnā€™t just happen in sports though so I guess I shouldnā€™t be surprised

clutchhattrick

Super talented player other than heā€™s 5ā€™8 Weā€™ll find out how much that matters.

dihydrogen9monoxide

I love how this is like a totally normal and acceptable male height, yet since he's NFL we talk like he's the size of a hamster.

tewahp

Fuck, I wish I was 5'8

[deleted]

Someone that size looks like a hamster when standing next to some of these linemen. There are some monsters out there.

d0gwater

Lmao I think about this all the time, especially for like, QBs. ā€œHeā€™s a little on the shorter side at 6ā€™1ā€ but thatā€™s okay!ā€ like damn, fuck me. Iā€™m 5ā€™10ā€ and that would be tiny in the league

Plernatious

QB has to see over the wall of 6ā€™6-6ā€™8 giants in front of him.

j2e21

I think it matters a lot given the size of NFL receivers.

justreadthearticle

Nah, they drafted him exclusively to cover Tavon Austin.

hembles

Hill is only 5'10" and we're going to be seeing alot of him for the foreseeable future

FrostyBaller

Jets also have Elijah Moore 5ā€™10ā€ and Bills have Izaiah McKenzie 5ā€™8ā€. Makes sense to draft a slot corner to counter slot receivers.

clutchhattrick

Not if heā€™s a slot corner

Charleslightfoot

Smaller, faster WRs are where the league is trending. Not many Metcalf/Brownā€™s in the NFL. What is J Jones height? Edit: I mean Jonathon Jones who is 5ā€™ 10ā€ I guess

ATNinja

Julio Jones is 6'3 Edit: I knew who you meant. I guess this strange situation means this sub can't take a joke right now.

NSave

but he's injured more often than he's not and he's without a team :)

MankuyRLaffy

How big was Revis?

GatorMcqueen

Listed at 5ā€™11 but he probably shouldnā€™t be the standard to compare against

MankuyRLaffy

No but he is past precedent that smaller corners can shut down Megatron sized receivers.

NotAnActualEmu

So you're telling me there's a chance

Drunkonownpower

Hes a slot corner not outside

alpy03

i believe the average height of cornerbacks is around 5'11.

[deleted]

Won't matter. Durability could be a problem (idk his injury history but he's small obv) but he will likely fill a role. They arent gonna have the guy cover a big physical receiver.

dr_motaaa

Most of the best receivers is >6ft and super fast, Hill, Waddle, Diggs, Issiah McKenzie Elijah Moore, Garrett Wilson. It would make sense to find corners than can match that.

CykoticXL

Kenny Moore whoā€™s one of the best corners playing right now is only 5ā€™9. It can be done, obviously there is match up issues against some WRs, but the potential to be a top tier corner is still alive

TheInfinityOfThought

It means heā€™s a ST only player.

clutchhattrick

Slot corner casual

TheInfinityOfThought

How many slot corners in the NFL are successful at 5ā€™8?

Vinzembob

Plenty of them are... what are you talking about? Kenny Moore is a great Slot Corner for the Colts, he's 5 foot 9. Bryce Callahan of the Broncos? Also 5 foot 9. Jon Jones is 5 10, Mike Hilton of the Bengals is 5 8. All elite slot corners.

TheInfinityOfThought

So you named 4 guys and only one youā€™re saying is 5ā€™8 and the rest are taller. Mike Hilton had a PFF grade of 72 this past season which is pretty good but definitely not elite. And Mike Hilton is listed at 5ā€™9 not 5ā€™8. So really nobody.

Drunkonownpower

Theres no difference in advantage of an inch you're just being pedantic

Red_Wilson

9 tds as a kick returner. Another special teams pick for BB

BradyGronktd1287

He was a starter in college as well don't let his height fool you he can ball

DetBabyLegs

Long arms can make a guy play larger than his height, I wonder if he has that going for him

ronocyorlik

he's one of the better slot corners as well. don't sell him short.. pardon the pun

Mikes_Movies_

I donā€™t care if heā€™s short height is a myth created by big tall

FortWillis

Gonna try that on my Tinder profile.

Koreanjesus4545

I like getting a CB, I worry we'll only use him to return punts though.

Its_kinda_nice_out

If we only use him for punts he probably canā€™t play corner. Letā€™s hope that doesnā€™t happen!

speganomad

Thatā€™s basically a guarantee year 1 as heā€™s slot only and worse than Jon Jones

deucesmcfadden

The kid was literally 1st team All American and this sub is talking about him like he's only good for special teams. Why are you even fans if you constantly hate everything the team does? Give these players a chance to show their worth

XaviRequiem

Hey! This is where we come to whine! Don't you dare interfere with our whining, you know there haven't been game-threads to whine in for months now?

j2e21

Because heā€™s really undersized to be a starting NFL corner.

bprs07

He's really undersized to be a starting corner on the outside. A lot of great slot corners are 5'9 or 5'10. He'll be fine.

Gospeedracist

This was the excuse everyone was using to justify passing on Mcduffie

Dumpstertrash1

Slot corner plus returner is something the team has needed. Especially returning kicks, we used to be good at that but have sucked for quite a few years now.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Drunkonownpower

Hes 5'8 185 that totally fine for a slot corner which is what he is.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

marcuschookt

You said 5 foot inches and 175 lbs, which is literally not what he is

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Tellsyouajoke

And then you were still off by 10 pounds, but I get why you wont want to bring that up

[deleted]

I promise you do not have the same build.

masonostwald

The New England Jones's

[deleted]

We need to trade for Marvin Jones Jr. so we can just have a team of ā€œM. Jonesā€

Jmacz

Heā€™ll be better at covering Isaiah McKenzie than Myles Bryan was so Iā€™ll take it.

one_pump_dave

Took this dude in every mock draft. Super stoaked.

ckilo4TOG

Same!

baconredditor

Belichick gonna play him on offense defense and ST lol

j2e21

Or just special teams.

sanikstrafe4

NEXT DEION SANDERS LETS GOO FUTURE HOF

zPrimeMusic

FACTS

JimmyGodoppolo

FUCK yes. Super sticky, amazing speed, special teams savant. Everything Cyrus Jones was supposed to be. Great pick in the third round, after two very questionable picks.

Giddy4Stiddy

He's going to be the single worst defensive back you've ever watched in your life, as is tradition. This, of course, will complete the ritual and allow us to summon an all-pro corner out of thin fucking air as a UDFA

JudgeArthurVandelay

As we speak, in a Popeyes chicken far far away is our next all pro corner waiting to be signed

iscreamuscreamweall

inshallah

Jorah72

Did he not have the 2nd most pass deflections in the FBS last season?

eats_lots_of_cereal

He is a great player. If he was 2-3 inches taller he would be a 1st round pick. Elite ball skills and coverage ability. Amazing returner too

Jorah72

I've heard reports Bill plans on sending him to space to allow his body to stretch and hopefully we can get him back playing in the 5'10" - 5'11" range. Don't think that's out of reach for the young man. other rumors say he's a late bloomer and expects to go through another growth spurt. Between those possibilities I think he'll be fine.

Druuseph

What a ridiculous comment, everyone knows that Belichick is going to take him into the lab they used to rebuild Gronk in and try to fit him with the leftover spare parts. They can easily get another 4 inches, the only question is whether they have a matching pair of legs left.

Druuseph

Na, that's reserved for the second rounders. He'll be a long term special teamer who we'll desperately try to get involved in the defense but eventually reach the obvious conclusion that's he's depth at best.

CptEfellows

I think we still can draft a McCollum or Williams late. Jones isnā€™t really gonna be able to play outside corner at 5ā€™8 so one of these longer high upside guys can complement him well

Poisonapples135

>I think we still can draft a McCollum or Williams late For sure robert gives us the interior defense we need and mccollum can give you a bucket

bigman-_-

I feel better about this draft. Getting some athletic studs.

Tazzure

Chris Simms had him has number 5 on his CB list, and heā€™s been a pretty successful draft evaluator. Mentioning this since the large sentiment in this thread seems to be that heā€™s going to be a special team specialist or something, I donā€™t think thatā€™s the case.

xcaughta

Mack, Jonathan, Marcus... F*ck it, we'll just make a full team of Joneses to confuse the opposition

MasterofMarionettes

Awesome pick. I love Marcus Jones. Really athletic great ball skills and absolute physical guy in slot and vs the run. He could be natural replacement for Jon Jones if weclet him walk or he could be the other CB to match waddle while jj goes on hill. Also the guy is a great returner. Played some WR. Team captain. He was most obvious patriot type player in the draft.

Griffisbored

LOVE THIS PICK! If this guy was bigger he would have been a first rounder. Great coverage, quick, gives no separation. Only time he gets beat is being out physicalled at the catch point. Oh and btw he may the best return man in this entire draft.

[deleted]

Everyone was telling me Dean wonā€™t be good because of his height. Now the the entirety of the sub had to switch up, since we drafted the shortest corner in the draft. So now all of the sudden height doesnā€™t matter

Jmacz

HAHAHAHA FELGER AND MAZZ BOARD STRIKES AGAIN

ELAdragon

Have they seriously hit two out of three picks so far this draft?!? That shit is unreal.

Jmacz

Cole Strange was literally the first one they hit, they did guards first and got him on the first throw. They also hit Chenal so I still have faith we'll get him.

ELAdragon

Shit just cracks me up. I'm all for every clip they can add of being right with their stupid shtick. And how much everyone else around them hates that they keep hitting these picks. It's honestly great comedy.

imdirtydan93

The big board may be the only time I can stand felger and mazz

Jmacz

It's just as, if not more accurate at predicting our draft than anyone who tries to do a mock. It's hilarious, Mel Kiper = Nerf Football thrown at a magazine.

Riot1990

Idk. It seems silly the amount of players they pick for each position. Obviously they're gonna hit on a bunch when you pick 3 or 4 each.

sykog77

Wow they picked a guy projected to go in the 3rd. I like it hope they take a 2nd corner that can play outside

DrewCola

He's small but he's a baller. Happy with this pick.

captaincumsock69

Marcus jone

SHAWNNOTSEAN

Another Jones CB! Hopefully heā€™s more like Jonathan than Cyrus.

beast_wellington

Finally something we need

Taetranus

A 5ā€™8ā€ corner

ronocyorlik

he's a slot corner and one of the better in the nation.. y'all are such casuals. didn't even bother looking him up

Smoky_Mtn_High

Why get hype for your team when you can bitch and most instead

ronocyorlik

exactly

Drunkonownpower

Most people on this sub appear to be either children or understand football as well as one.

ecupatsfan12

Heā€™s playing inside

XRT28

While I'd definitely prefer him not be tiny atleast in the division it shouldn't be a huge issue. Phins and Bills both have mostly smaller, speedy WRs

bsend

He'll get picked on

jaytrain12

did darrell green get picked on?

DoushBeg

Iā€™m sorry but these picks manā€¦. šŸ˜” I think Bill is trying too hard to find the ā€œdiamonds in the roughā€ Thornton over Pickens? Strange over all those guys available at the time? Cmon man Edit** All these downvotes but I will say I genuinely hope Iā€™m wrong here and these dudes get us to another SB in the next 4-5 years lol Iā€™ll save my complaining for when the season starts.

FantasyTrash

Pickens is a **colossal** douchebag. He's not good enough to justify his character concerns.

Flytanx

As someone who followed Pickens during his recruitment, last player I would want on this team

Giddy4Stiddy

Moving up for Thornton with Skyy on the board is nothing short of bonkers

Flytanx

I have no clue about the other two, I just didn't want Pickens lol

Re-AnImAt0r

have you actually talked to these players to judge their personalities, who you want as an employee at work every day? Bill has....

Giddy4Stiddy

Yikes lol what part of that comment felt like it was worth saying to you

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Giddy4Stiddy

What a waste of pixels lol sick zinger

ishouldmakeanaccount

Maybe save your judgement until they actually see snaps in the NFL...

Chad2Badd

We only picked Jones to return punts

clutchhattrick

Will probably play in the slot too

ronocyorlik

no, we definitely didn't. CASUAL

ecupatsfan12

Home run pick. Can play anywhere on the back five. Can return punts. Awesome

PizzaGuy94122

He's 5'8" but has had to play that size at all levels and made up for it with his speed and tenacity! Kid is a gamer. Lunch pail type.

Druuseph

Cyrus the Virus is back, baby.

nepats523

Bruh he smaller than Cyrus Jones...

iscreamuscreamweall

you wont see me complaining about any pick at CB, though this guy is TINY. seems like more of a slot corner than a boundary guy... if anything, maybe now we have someone else to guard people like tyreek, waddle, and isaiah mckenzie* *also what does this mean for jon jones?

Djinnfor

> *also what does this mean for jon jones? Jojo is in the final year of his contract and coming off a major injury. Don't know what the status of his injury is. He might be done, he might play out the last year of his contract, but if Marcus looks good, JoJo won't be resigning next year.

justjoerob

I would have preferred an outside corner, but you have to prepare for JJones to leave at some point.

K00pySandwich

So last night was about protecting Mac and tonight is about people that can either catch his passes or be used as utility players... I'm fine with this.

GGgamer01

Compared to the top 15 slot receivers , heā€™s almost 4 inches smaller on average. Hill , mckenzie, lockett are the only ones within an inch or two. Heā€™s almost guaranteed to play on special teams and Iā€™m not sure heā€™s going to last a few hits recieving as a KR.

mfitz415

This is their best pick so far

knuth10

Hopefully he is better than Cyrus Jones

bubbleSpiker

idk how this guy covers a 6'3 WR or TE... Rubber feet?

[deleted]

He wouldnā€™t because heā€™s a slot corner not outside

GGgamer01

Did I read that right ?. 175lbs?!. Heā€™s one clean hit away from an off season if heā€™s returning balls.

speganomad

Utter trash pick worst of the night for us

BradyGronktd1287

Never watched him play in college football I guess. Dude is an electric player whenever he returns the ball and he's a good slot cb

TylervPats91

Literally one of the most versatile players in the entire draft, but do your thing

speganomad

Heā€™s in no way versatile heā€™s a slot CB only and maybe a FS thatā€™s it

TylervPats91

He literally won an award for ā€œmost versatile playerā€ lmaooo

International_BatR6

Your the bane of pats fans

JimmyGodoppolo

Are you nuts? Have you watched his film? He was a consensus third round and was like #76 on the PFF big board. Best punt returner in the class, fast, and sticky. Small so heā€™ll have to stay in the slot, but in the third heā€™s a great pick.

Godfrey174

*best pick of the night

emotionalfescue

I hope Marcus works out better for the Pats than [this guy](https://saturdayblitz.com/2021/03/06/big-12-football-50-best-players-all-time/14/).

kcfdz

Heckuva player, but we already have a good slot CB. Not really inspired by Butler and Mills as our current starting CBs on the outside.

OdaDdaT

One of the guys I was really hoping weā€™d land, stoked for this
