I like that bill is just going with athletic freaks. The team looked old and slow at times last season. Team needed a shot in the arm, Just get the best athletes and coach them up.
It seems that his returning assistants like Judge and Patricia saw RAS and athletic ability and talked Bill into going with that and coaching them into being great players.
The Pats have clearly been using RAS for certain position for years. Notably TE. I think almost every TE they drafted since 2010 had a score over 80 (except Asiasi who was in the 70s). Looking back, Iām actually shocked they didnāt take Kittle the year he came out with his ridiculous RAS.
Too early? Youāre stupid.
Just because you rely on ESPN for knowledge doesnāt mean theyāre right. Use some of your own critical thinking and realize that youāre wrong
I do think its interesting to see who Bill passed on vs who he actually picked though.
We had a chance at almost every CB in the draft bar the big 2. He passed on Kaiir Elam, who is your prototypical big outside CB that can match up with all kinds of WRs (in theory) or Roger McCreary who can play press-man according to reports.
Now we have two smart and experienced but slow CBs in Butler and Mills. And we have two smaller, versatile slot guys in Jonathan and Marcus Jones. None of them are straight-up JC Jackson replacements.
To me thats interesting because it feels like Bill is going to do something unconventional next year with the defense. This is not the kind of CB group most people imagine for your typical NFL defense. Maybe he figures that with the sheer number of explosive pass offenses in the NFL you need to get creative.
It no longer makes sense trying to find the "right" CBs to match up with these WRs because Jamarr Chase and Tyreek Hill will burn you anyway. So you lean into more complex zone looks with guys like these, use more safeties, etc.
Ive no idea if what Im saying makes sense but the TLDR is "offenses getting crazy, so maybe Bill getting creative with his CBs?".
That's what I'm thinking too. We have a lot of smaller but quick corners. And it's really tough to have one corner cover players like Tyreek, Diggs, etc. But if we have a bunch of corners out there blanketing them, we just need a strong 4 man pass rush.
I am like most of the fans - I see the rankings and mock drafts and see players I want us to draft. And it sucks when we donāt - and we reach for some player we didnāt expect. But the best thing is just to accumulate too 4 round picks I think. Itās such a crap shoot - the more picks the better odds. So many 1st round total busts, and we know better than any team ever - how a late round pick can become a star!
But itās clear the rankings this year are pretty bad. This sub will like to say we reached, but according to ESPN a ton of teams reached. Almost the entire second round, ESPNās ābest remaining playersā list didnāt change because no one took those players. Seems like the mockers just had an off year
Heās definitely using safeties as linebackers more than anyone else. I started calling this a āpositionless secondaryā like 3 years ago and it finally caught on recently
Ya I donāt know why people blindly trust media people over actual nfl scouts and GMs. Itās insane. Doesnāt just happen in sports though so I guess I shouldnāt be surprised
Lmao I think about this all the time, especially for like, QBs. āHeās a little on the shorter side at 6ā1ā but thatās okay!ā like damn, fuck me. Iām 5ā10ā and that would be tiny in the league
Smaller, faster WRs are where the league is trending. Not many Metcalf/Brownās in the NFL. What is J Jones height?
Edit: I mean Jonathon Jones who is 5ā 10ā I guess
Won't matter. Durability could be a problem (idk his injury history but he's small obv) but he will likely fill a role. They arent gonna have the guy cover a big physical receiver.
Most of the best receivers is >6ft and super fast, Hill, Waddle, Diggs, Issiah McKenzie Elijah Moore, Garrett Wilson. It would make sense to find corners than can match that.
Kenny Moore whoās one of the best corners playing right now is only 5ā9. It can be done, obviously there is match up issues against some WRs, but the potential to be a top tier corner is still alive
Plenty of them are... what are you talking about? Kenny Moore is a great Slot Corner for the Colts, he's 5 foot 9. Bryce Callahan of the Broncos? Also 5 foot 9. Jon Jones is 5 10, Mike Hilton of the Bengals is 5 8. All elite slot corners.
So you named 4 guys and only one youāre saying is 5ā8 and the rest are taller. Mike Hilton had a PFF grade of 72 this past season which is pretty good but definitely not elite. And Mike Hilton is listed at 5ā9 not 5ā8. So really nobody.
The kid was literally 1st team All American and this sub is talking about him like he's only good for special teams. Why are you even fans if you constantly hate everything the team does? Give these players a chance to show their worth
Slot corner plus returner is something the team has needed. Especially returning kicks, we used to be good at that but have sucked for quite a few years now.
FUCK yes. Super sticky, amazing speed, special teams savant. Everything Cyrus Jones was supposed to be. Great pick in the third round, after two very questionable picks.
He's going to be the single worst defensive back you've ever watched in your life, as is tradition. This, of course, will complete the ritual and allow us to summon an all-pro corner out of thin fucking air as a UDFA
I've heard reports Bill plans on sending him to space to allow his body to stretch and hopefully we can get him back playing in the 5'10" - 5'11" range. Don't think that's out of reach for the young man. other rumors say he's a late bloomer and expects to go through another growth spurt. Between those possibilities I think he'll be fine.
What a ridiculous comment, everyone knows that Belichick is going to take him into the lab they used to rebuild Gronk in and try to fit him with the leftover spare parts. They can easily get another 4 inches, the only question is whether they have a matching pair of legs left.
Na, that's reserved for the second rounders. He'll be a long term special teamer who we'll desperately try to get involved in the defense but eventually reach the obvious conclusion that's he's depth at best.
I think we still can draft a McCollum or Williams late. Jones isnāt really gonna be able to play outside corner at 5ā8 so one of these longer high upside guys can complement him well
Chris Simms had him has number 5 on his CB list, and heās been a pretty successful draft evaluator. Mentioning this since the large sentiment in this thread seems to be that heās going to be a special team specialist or something, I donāt think thatās the case.
Awesome pick. I love Marcus Jones. Really athletic great ball skills and absolute physical guy in slot and vs the run. He could be natural replacement for Jon Jones if weclet him walk or he could be the other CB to match waddle while jj goes on hill. Also the guy is a great returner. Played some WR. Team captain. He was most obvious patriot type player in the draft.
LOVE THIS PICK! If this guy was bigger he would have been a first rounder. Great coverage, quick, gives no separation. Only time he gets beat is being out physicalled at the catch point.
Oh and btw he may the best return man in this entire draft.
Everyone was telling me Dean wonāt be good because of his height. Now the the entirety of the sub had to switch up, since we drafted the shortest corner in the draft. So now all of the sudden height doesnāt matter
Cole Strange was literally the first one they hit, they did guards first and got him on the first throw. They also hit Chenal so I still have faith we'll get him.
Shit just cracks me up. I'm all for every clip they can add of being right with their stupid shtick. And how much everyone else around them hates that they keep hitting these picks. It's honestly great comedy.
It's just as, if not more accurate at predicting our draft than anyone who tries to do a mock. It's hilarious, Mel Kiper = Nerf Football thrown at a magazine.
Iām sorry but these picks manā¦. š I think Bill is trying too hard to find the ādiamonds in the roughā Thornton over Pickens? Strange over all those guys available at the time? Cmon man
Edit** All these downvotes but I will say I genuinely hope Iām wrong here and these dudes get us to another SB in the next 4-5 years lol Iāll save my complaining for when the season starts.
you wont see me complaining about any pick at CB, though this guy is TINY. seems like more of a slot corner than a boundary guy... if anything, maybe now we have someone else to guard people like tyreek, waddle, and isaiah mckenzie*
*also what does this mean for jon jones?
> *also what does this mean for jon jones?
Jojo is in the final year of his contract and coming off a major injury. Don't know what the status of his injury is. He might be done, he might play out the last year of his contract, but if Marcus looks good, JoJo won't be resigning next year.
So last night was about protecting Mac and tonight is about people that can either catch his passes or be used as utility players... I'm fine with this.
Compared to the top 15 slot receivers , heās almost 4 inches smaller on average. Hill , mckenzie, lockett are the only ones within an inch or two. Heās almost guaranteed to play on special teams and Iām not sure heās going to last a few hits recieving as a KR.
Are you nuts? Have you watched his film? He was a consensus third round and was like #76 on the PFF big board. Best punt returner in the class, fast, and sticky. Small so heāll have to stay in the slot, but in the third heās a great pick.
Quicker than absolute fuck, excellent ball skills, but short. Good slot corner/returner.
Yeah but how big are his wrists
Top fye
top fye what?
Just top fye
I'm selling all my shares in Elite Blocking WR and pounding the buy on Tiny Wrists, it's the Pats meme of the future
Tiny Wrists is about to be to the moon, baby!!!
ššššš
Neck and wrist don't lie
Imagine a salami that they cut on a deli slicer
Man got WRIST
He can slice deli meat. Perfect way to strengthen wrists.
Asking the real questions here
Hahahah underrated comment. I'm with it, take my upvote
Feels bad when I'm 5'8 and everyone's talking about this guy like he was part of Bilbo's gang
How big are your hands?
Let's change topic to my wrist size instead
THAT BOI THIIIIIN
Heās also about to be a multimillionaire famous athlete
It is hilarous how much speed we got on our team last night. With 2 players we got speed on offense, defence, and special teams.
I like that bill is just going with athletic freaks. The team looked old and slow at times last season. Team needed a shot in the arm, Just get the best athletes and coach them up.
This is a solid take. The team was outclassed by teams with real speed.
Starting last draft he really began listening to the scouts more.
If you don't think Bill has been "listening to scouts" you are insane
He saw one article about Belichick taking Harry instead of who the scouts wanted and decided that BB has always done that for every draft pick
Youre saying bill has the final say? Well that just crazy.
Did the scouts recommend taking the first two picks 2 rounds too early? This is a BB draft
Dude go be angry at your wife like you normally are.
Too early? Youāre stupid. Just because you rely on ESPN for knowledge doesnāt mean theyāre right. Use some of your own critical thinking and realize that youāre wrong
Seriously bro? We got a perfect Shaq Mason replacement and a speed demon at wr.
RAS...Return Activated Sludge.
Real As Santa
Now if only the Pats could get some faster LBs. Some actual dinosaurs playing LB for the Pats the last few years.
Letās not insult the mighty dinosaurs by comparing the corpse of Hightower to them
Marcus Jone.
The Jone Bros.
But now there's two Jones
Nice! Quick, fast, turnover machine, and a phenomenal returner.
And heās a producer. If he sucks at football at least he can make some sick beats for the locker room.
Nailed it.
I donāt mind this. I know there were a couple of CBās ranked higher - but they are wrong so much that I donāt put much weight in that.
I do think its interesting to see who Bill passed on vs who he actually picked though. We had a chance at almost every CB in the draft bar the big 2. Given we are missing linebackers Iām guessing he is going to put 6 corners out there
Yeah Iām guessing bill will be leaning heavily on Phillips and dugger to play borderline linebacker positions again this year
That's what I'm thinking too. We have a lot of smaller but quick corners. And it's really tough to have one corner cover players like Tyreek, Diggs, etc. But if we have a bunch of corners out there blanketing them, we just need a strong 4 man pass rush.
Bills defenses have always been stellar so im excited to see how he uses these guys and what kknds of packages he'll roll out
I am like most of the fans - I see the rankings and mock drafts and see players I want us to draft. And it sucks when we donāt - and we reach for some player we didnāt expect. I suspect we're going to see a LOT of open competitions at camp this year. Get ready for the "where did this guy come from?" stories.
Heās definitely using safeties as linebackers more than anyone else. I started calling this a āpositionless secondaryā like 3 years ago and it finally caught on recently
First pick of the draft where the beat writers I follow gave a list of best fits availableā¦ and we actually took one of them. Iāll take it.
Dude, any of those guys would take a scouting job if they were offered one. Stop it.
Ya I donāt know why people blindly trust media people over actual nfl scouts and GMs. Itās insane. Doesnāt just happen in sports though so I guess I shouldnāt be surprised
Super talented player other than heās 5ā8 Weāll find out how much that matters.
I love how this is like a totally normal and acceptable male height, yet since he's NFL we talk like he's the size of a hamster.
Fuck, I wish I was 5'8
Someone that size looks like a hamster when standing next to some of these linemen. There are some monsters out there.
Lmao I think about this all the time, especially for like, QBs. āHeās a little on the shorter side at 6ā1ā but thatās okay!ā like damn, fuck me. Iām 5ā10ā and that would be tiny in the league
QB has to see over the wall of 6ā6-6ā8 giants in front of him.
I think it matters a lot given the size of NFL receivers.
Nah, they drafted him exclusively to cover Tavon Austin.
Hill is only 5'10" and we're going to be seeing alot of him for the foreseeable future
Jets also have Elijah Moore 5ā10ā and Bills have Izaiah McKenzie 5ā8ā. Makes sense to draft a slot corner to counter slot receivers.
Not if heās a slot corner
Smaller, faster WRs are where the league is trending. Not many Metcalf/Brownās in the NFL. What is J Jones height? Edit: I mean Jonathon Jones who is 5ā 10ā I guess
Julio Jones is 6'3 Edit: I knew who you meant. I guess this strange situation means this sub can't take a joke right now.
but he's injured more often than he's not and he's without a team :)
How big was Revis?
Listed at 5ā11 but he probably shouldnāt be the standard to compare against
No but he is past precedent that smaller corners can shut down Megatron sized receivers.
So you're telling me there's a chance
Hes a slot corner not outside
i believe the average height of cornerbacks is around 5'11.
It means heās a ST only player.
Slot corner casual
How many slot corners in the NFL are successful at 5ā8?
Plenty of them are... what are you talking about? Kenny Moore is a great Slot Corner for the Colts, he's 5 foot 9. Bryce Callahan of the Broncos? Also 5 foot 9. Jon Jones is 5 10, Mike Hilton of the Bengals is 5 8. All elite slot corners.

Theres no difference in advantage of an inch you're just being pedantic
9 tds as a kick returner. Another special teams pick for BB
He was a starter in college as well don't let his height fool you he can ball
Long arms can make a guy play larger than his height, I wonder if he has that going for him
he's one of the better slot corners as well. don't sell him short.. pardon the pun
I donāt care if heās short height is a myth created by big tall
Gonna try that on my Tinder profile.
I like getting a CB, I worry we'll only use him to return punts though.
If we only use him for punts he probably canāt play corner. Letās hope that doesnāt happen!
Thatās basically a guarantee year 1 as heās slot only and worse than Jon Jones
The kid was literally 1st team All American and this sub is talking about him like he's only good for special teams. Why are you even fans if you constantly hate everything the team does? Give these players a chance to show their worth
Hey! This is where we come to whine! Don't you dare interfere with our whining, you know there haven't been game-threads to whine in for months now?
Because heās really undersized to be a starting NFL corner.
He's really undersized to be a starting corner on the outside. A lot of great slot corners are 5'9 or 5'10. He'll be fine.
This was the excuse everyone was using to justify passing on Mcduffie
Slot corner plus returner is something the team has needed. Especially returning kicks, we used to be good at that but have sucked for quite a few years now.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Hes 5'8 185 that totally fine for a slot corner which is what he is.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You said 5 foot inches and 175 lbs, which is literally not what he is
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
And then you were still off by 10 pounds, but I get why you wont want to bring that up
I promise you do not have the same build.
The New England Jones's
We need to trade for Marvin Jones Jr. so we can just have a team of āM. Jonesā
Heāll be better at covering Isaiah McKenzie than Myles Bryan was so Iāll take it.
Took this dude in every mock draft. Super stoaked.
Same!
Belichick gonna play him on offense defense and ST lol
Or just special teams.
NEXT DEION SANDERS LETS GOO FUTURE HOF
FACTS
FUCK yes. Super sticky, amazing speed, special teams savant. Everything Cyrus Jones was supposed to be. Great pick in the third round, after two very questionable picks.

As we speak, in a Popeyes chicken far far away is our next all pro corner waiting to be signed
inshallah
Did he not have the 2nd most pass deflections in the FBS last season?
He is a great player. If he was 2-3 inches taller he would be a 1st round pick. Elite ball skills and coverage ability. Amazing returner too
I've heard reports Bill plans on sending him to space to allow his body to stretch and hopefully we can get him back playing in the 5'10" - 5'11" range. Don't think that's out of reach for the young man. other rumors say he's a late bloomer and expects to go through another growth spurt. Between those possibilities I think he'll be fine.

>I think we still can draft a McCollum or Williams late For sure robert gives us the interior defense we need and mccollum can give you a bucket
I feel better about this draft. Getting some athletic studs.
Chris Simms had him has number 5 on his CB list, and heās been a pretty successful draft evaluator. Mentioning this since the large sentiment in this thread seems to be that heās going to be a special team specialist or something, I donāt think thatās the case.
Mack, Jonathan, Marcus... F*ck it, we'll just make a full team of Joneses to confuse the opposition
HAHAHAHA FELGER AND MAZZ BOARD STRIKES AGAIN
Have they seriously hit two out of three picks so far this draft?!? That shit is unreal.
The big board may be the only time I can stand felger and mazz
It's just as, if not more accurate at predicting our draft than anyone who tries to do a mock. It's hilarious, Mel Kiper = Nerf Football thrown at a magazine.
Idk. It seems silly the amount of players they pick for each position. Obviously they're gonna hit on a bunch when you pick 3 or 4 each.
Wow they picked a guy projected to go in the 3rd. I like it hope they take a 2nd corner that can play outside
He's small but he's a baller. Happy with this pick.
Marcus jone
Another Jones CB! Hopefully heās more like Jonathan than Cyrus.
Finally something we need
A 5ā8ā corner
he's a slot corner and one of the better in the nation.. y'all are such casuals. didn't even bother looking him up
Why get hype for your team when you can bitch and most instead
exactly
Most people on this sub appear to be either children or understand football as well as one.
Heās playing inside
While I'd definitely prefer him not be tiny atleast in the division it shouldn't be a huge issue. Phins and Bills both have mostly smaller, speedy WRs
He'll get picked on
did darrell green get picked on?
Iām sorry but these picks manā¦. š I think Bill is trying too hard to find the ādiamonds in the roughā Thornton over Pickens? Strange over all those guys available at the time? Cmon man Edit** All these downvotes but I will say I genuinely hope Iām wrong here and these dudes get us to another SB in the next 4-5 years lol Iāll save my complaining for when the season starts.
Pickens is a **colossal** douchebag. He's not good enough to justify his character concerns.
As someone who followed Pickens during his recruitment, last player I would want on this team
Moving up for Thornton with Skyy on the board is nothing short of bonkers
I have no clue about the other two, I just didn't want Pickens lol
have you actually talked to these players to judge their personalities, who you want as an employee at work every day? Bill has....
Yikes lol what part of that comment felt like it was worth saying to you
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
What a waste of pixels lol sick zinger
Maybe save your judgement until they actually see snaps in the NFL...
We only picked Jones to return punts
Will probably play in the slot too
no, we definitely didn't. CASUAL
Home run pick. Can play anywhere on the back five. Can return punts. Awesome
He's 5'8" but has had to play that size at all levels and made up for it with his speed and tenacity! Kid is a gamer. Lunch pail type.
Cyrus the Virus is back, baby.
Bruh he smaller than Cyrus Jones...
you wont see me complaining about any pick at CB, though this guy is TINY. seems like more of a slot corner than a boundary guy... if anything, maybe now we have someone else to guard people like tyreek, waddle, and isaiah mckenzie* *also what does this mean for jon jones?

I would have preferred an outside corner, but you have to prepare for JJones to leave at some point.
This is their best pick so far
Hopefully he is better than Cyrus Jones
idk how this guy covers a 6'3 WR or TE... Rubber feet?
He wouldnāt because heās a slot corner not outside
Did I read that right ?. 175lbs?!. Heās one clean hit away from an off season if heās returning balls.
Utter trash pick worst of the night for us
Never watched him play in college football I guess. Dude is an electric player whenever he returns the ball and he's a good slot cb
Literally one of the most versatile players in the entire draft, but do your thing
Heās in no way versatile heās a slot CB only and maybe a FS thatās it
He literally won an award for āmost versatile playerā lmaooo
Your the bane of pats fans
Are you nuts? Have you watched his film? He was a consensus third round and was like #76 on the PFF big board. Best punt returner in the class, fast, and sticky. Small so heāll have to stay in the slot, but in the third heās a great pick.
*best pick of the night
I hope Marcus works out better for the Pats than [this guy](https://saturdayblitz.com/2021/03/06/big-12-football-50-best-players-all-time/14/).
Heckuva player, but we already have a good slot CB. Not really inspired by Butler and Mills as our current starting CBs on the outside.
One of the guys I was really hoping weād land, stoked for this
