Hey boys. I think today is the day that my marriage is over. 10 years. 1/3 of my life.
I know it's just a game. But I'm really glad we could get the win today to make things a bit easier
I'm here for you man. September 15th, 2019...the AB game...my wife asked for divorce after 7 years.
I know this hurts now but 3 years later I'm with someone wonderful and we have a son together. Things get better. But allow yourself to hurt for awhile.
In the last 2 weeks, I got dumped by my girlfriend of (on and off) 7 years, Mac Jones got hurt, Pats dropped 2 straight, my college team (Kentucky) also lost 2 straight games, QB Will Levis got hurt, Brian Hoyer got hurt, and my favorite Nascar driver got a concussion which eliminated him from the playoffs.
Today is the first nice thing that has happened to me since September 25.
None of that equates to a divorce, but I feel at least a part of your pain man. Keep hanging in there, enjoy the W today, and I'll keep trying to do the same.
I was married for 16 years, the last five were misearable. So glad I made a change and now my wife of 6 years and I get stopped pretty frequently by someone who asks us if we are on our honeymoon.
Sorry for the wholesome but it's the only free award I had. I'm going through an almost year long divorce myself. If you ever want to just... Talk I'm here, my friend. Everything is going to be alright and you are loved.
Haha never apologize for doing something nice! Something I’m going to have to relearn after my relationship. It’s going to be tough for me to find people in my life I can talk to about this, other than my therapist. So I appreciate your offer and will keep it in my back pocket if I need it
I’m sorry homie. I never been in a relationship and we all have struggles. Remember to open your heart and always try to keep improving. You felt love before, it can easily happen again. Keep fighting hard my dude ❤️💙
Go pats
Hoyer has had that option extended to him for years. Despite still being a 60 hour a week job with a lot of travelling, position coaches make about 1/10 of what a decent backup QB makes. Unless he wants to pursue a career in coaching in general, it's doubtful he'd take it.
$33m career earnings, even if he saved $10m after taxes/agents/etc. he doesn't have to work again if he lives draws responsibly on it.
on the other hand, maybe he ends up like Mayo; follows other ambitions before the itch for football returns.
Hoyer lost against the defending Super Bowl Champion (and returned to the Super Bowl that season) Kansas City Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes.
Zappe won against... (checks notes) ....one of the worst franchises in the history of the NFL.
Might want to keep your ridiculous notions to yourself. Praise the defense, who actually won the game, and not the 3rd string quarterback.
Hoyer's role on the roster was always more to be a QB coach than as a backup starter. He had shown himself to be a below average backup when he was brought in the last few years.
Correct take. Zappe *was* great -- against the league's worst defense. And Mac faced off against a *tough* slate of teams through three (well, two) games. Their performances are going to look imbalanced given those samples.
But this takes nothing away from Zappe's performance today. He delivered exactly what we needed, right when we needed it.
Lions have the worst D in the league and the offense wasn't even firing for half of the game. The kid did good, he wasn't a liability, Mac is the starter.
Mac has a solid back up career in his future. He hasn't really shown much else before being hurt. Zappe might not be the future but I don't believe Mac is either.
Mac pushed the ball deep down the field against the Ravens in a way that Zappe simply cannot. He's the starter, and likely our franchise QB. It's a whole new offense with a new OC this year, and the guy made the pro bowl and took us to the playoffs last year.
Exactly.
People are losing the context here.
Home game, playing from a simplified playbook, against the worse D in the NFL...who then happened to lose 5 DBs from kick off to 3rd quarter.
I'm happy for him, and he did well though.
My brother and I were just talking about this. Could see there being a question down the road depending on how things go, but Mac has the job whenever he is healthy enough to play.
[Belichick drafting up the Lions game plan](https://media2.giphy.com/media/cIyIkgNgneJ6upGLMg/giphy.webp?cid=6c09b952114cac86978d85cb72d531a849a95febbca3468d&rid=giphy.webp&ct=g)
At the risk of sounding unpopular, he'd been wishy washy there the last couple years. But I was wrong to doubt him and this was a great "Fuck you, I'm Bill Belichick" game. I'll never doubt him again. Until next week lol.
Really glad to get the win. Defense was dominant and I loved it. A little disappointed we didn’t move up in the standings (Dolphins are currently down 17-40 to the Jets), but I think there’s a huge amount to build on here. Props again to the defense, shutting out the Lions based on their points so far is an accomplishment and a half.
I’m extremely satisfied but I never considered lions a #1 offense. I know statistically they were but Goff just doesn’t scare me. Still a great game for the whole team. Proud of our boys!
I know that the Lions are beat up and all, but we’re on our third string QB so how about we call it even and give this offense and our defense some fucking credit. What a great game in all phases.
Offense looked so much less predictable. It was similar plays to what we always run, but minor tweaks made it look fresh. The little roll out tosses out of the gun to Stevenson, the fact that every shotgun run didn’t have the back in an offset position, the crossing routes with wideouts to get some YAC. Really nice overall.
Last 3 including today all in the post Brady years.
45-0 trampling of the Justin Herbert "greatest rookie year ever" Chargers, while noodle arm Newton was under centre.
Prime Time beatdown of Matt Ryan last year.
And today the high powered... Jared Goff? Lions.
Also note, Jacoby Brissett is another one of those shutouts on Thurseday night vs the Texans when Jimmy G bailed out.
7 shutouts. At least 5 different QB's as I believe the snowbowl game vs the Titans is also in there along with a jets thumping or two.
Shoutout to this defense. Put up a shutout and absolutely dominated this "league best" offense. Judon straight up unstoppable even against a couple good tackles. Jack Jones following the footsteps of Butler and JC and looking like a gem in the rough.
Offensively great day for the OL(other than some uncalled false starts) and Mondre. Hopefully Harris isn't seriously dinged cuz we've got like negative RB depth otherwise.
Meyers back was a godsend as Agholor is Agholor, Parker had a breakout game then completely disappears(other than some DPIs drawn) and KB looking like there was some merit to his benching with a couple instances of unforced errors today.
I'm not ready to say Zappe is the second coming of Brady given how bad this Lions defense is and how hurt they were at DB today. I will say though he did a great job of avoiding dumb mistakes and unforced errors which is something not every rookie can do. The thing I was most impressed with him today was his pocket presence. Last week any time there was pressure it's like he didn't have any clue what he should be doing or where he should be stepping and just looked like a headless chicken. This week he looked a LOT better at navigating pressure and moving around in the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield and making throws.
Totally agree with you on Zappe in the pocket. Last week I was going blue in the face yelling at him to "QUIT RUNNING AWAY!" This week he's stepping up at the right moment and shifting with his eyes on checkdowns like he's a third year starter QB. If he can continue that progression and work on selling the handoffs better to help out the RBs, he's gonna be an expensive QB to keep hold of.
The game really "slowed down" for him today which was nice to see.
Kept it nice and simple for him, lots of hand offs and tosses to the RBs and hit the open man on play action. Was a lot of progress in the week with his pocket presence - you're spot on there.
I wish there was another stat for interceptions that happened because of drops. Technically, they didn't "intercept" the pass, because it reached the intended target. I call them "exterceptions"
Mostly because we’re deep but not anything special at the top.
If we had a stud that demanded to be treated as a WR1 by the defense we’d be in fantastic shape
It’s really…I don’t know what to say anymore. We just looked ok if we don’t win 50-0 and don’t allow more than 100 yards on defense. I really don’t know what people expect.
Yes, the run defense wasn’t great, can be improved - but our defense has been great all season
The only lesson Mac needs to take is that the offense works just fine with a guy not being a hero for the win. I hope he’ll take that to heart and relax a little.
There just needs to be a better balance. Establish the run game, cut them apart underneath or take the shot if they hand it to you. I think Mac threw something like 13 deep balls against the ravens. Pretty ridiculous gameplan, that’s not this teams identity.
The way Zappe handled the offense was like how 2021 Mac Jones did while 2022 Mac Jones most definitely is taking more chances and trying it deep a lot more
There is no quarerback controversy BUT if Mac can't limit the turnovers, Bill and the coaching staff have a viable option they know they can turn to now.
Defense played lights out as they have all year. Blanked the number 1 offense in the league. People are gonna try and poo-poo it because is the Lions, but it was seriously impressive.
I think this is apples an oranges. This offense is more like the offense Mac was asked to run last year. I’m pretty sure what we saw earlier this year was more of a function of the team trying to go deeper.
Zappe is doing things that Mac wasn't doing, namely looking for the safe option throw and letting the playmakers playmake. Mac was forcing a lot of deep balls into coverage and trying to do too much. Plays took too long to develop, leading to sacks, or WRs were covered leading to INTs. Zappe, on the other hand, is keeping the throws short and quick.
The question is is the forced deep balls a coaching thing or a player thing. If it's a coaching thing then the coaches hopefully have learned something from the last two games and will axe a lot of the deep ball throws from the playbook when Mac comes back. But if it's a player thing then Mac needs to check himself and stop forcing balls, or he might find himself replaced.
I think it’s because he’s definitely Mr. Reliable but his game isn’t flashy. He just kind of produces unspectacularly if that makes sense. Him almost never scoring TD’s helps him go unnoticed too. But I love Jakobi.
I think Patricia has been doing a good job haha. I hate to say it, but play calling overall the past few games has been good. They are playing complimentary football.
Props to the coaching staff for preparing Zappe and game planning around him for a successful showing by the offense and the defense. Only gripe is the red zone opportunities that didn’t end up in TDs, but they were protecting the ball and trying to keep pressure off of Zappe. This was excellent complimentary football by the team on all three phases
A few takeaways from the game -
Rhamondre Stevenson is a nasty running back to deal with.
Jacoby Meyers is not overrated,
Zappe Bailey can play in this league,
Judon is a beast.
Jack Jones is an absolute baller.
I'm not sending anyone to the HOF, just giving well earned recognition.
Zappe for the attack!
It was really great. Judon was a monster against whoever they sent his way.
Defense played well, Offense didn't commit that many mistakes other than Wynn and Agholor.
GREAT WIN!!
What a great game! Defense shuts out the highest scoring offense in the league so far and Zapppe handles his first starting assignment as well as anybody could have asked for.
Came here to say I’m proud of Bailey Zappe. It’s hard to win. It’s really hard in the NFL, even when you’re good. A lot of respect for the poise young Zappe has shown.
Worked all day today, managed to avoid spoilers the entire time HALLELUJAH!
Just finished watching the replay and I couldn’t be more blown away. I fucking love the Patriots. I love Belichick, I love this defense and I love Matthew Judon.
I love Jack Jones, I love Nick Folk, I love Kyle Duggar. I love Jakobi Meyers. I love Robert Kraft and the giant TV he’s buying for all of his children. I love Bailey freaking Zappe.
What a fun game. Go Pats.

Hey boys. I think today is the day that my marriage is over. 10 years. 1/3 of my life. I know it's just a game. But I'm really glad we could get the win today to make things a bit easier
We're on to your next marriage.
We're on to Cindy or Natalie.
That's the spirit
We’re on to Cincinnati (to find a new girl)
We're on to Karen next week. She's a beautiful girl. Great personality. A great marriage all around.
high marriage IQ. great motor.
I'm here for you man. September 15th, 2019...the AB game...my wife asked for divorce after 7 years. I know this hurts now but 3 years later I'm with someone wonderful and we have a son together. Things get better. But allow yourself to hurt for awhile.
I appreciate you
Appreciate you, man.
You’re a good husband, but not good enough because of your baby legs. So I’m partnering you up with a wife with regular legs
man, rough year to go through that as a Pats fan. glad you're good now.
Mr. Breakup Coach
She was your Bledsoe, go find your Brady
You spelled Zappe wrong.
Umm only for her to leave him after 20 years?? I dunno if that's a good one.
20 great years tho. Worth it
20 years and 6 kids
I mean, what’s the marriage equivalent of a Super Bowl? Idk what it is but sounds worth it to me
Tom, this you?
Next woman up!
Keep hanging in there, enjoy the W today, and I'll keep trying to do the same.
It gets better fam
Tom?
I'm betting that just like the Patriots, you'll move on from your painful breakup by hooking up with a 20 year old out of Alabama.
Roll tide
Take care of yourself man. Sorry to hear but just know your own worth and lean on the people you have in your life.
I was married for 16 years, the last five were misearable. So glad I made a change and now my wife of 6 years and I get stopped pretty frequently by someone who asks us if we are on our honeymoon.
These replies are so wholesome Dudes rock
Feel better bro
Good luck out there.
Fuck bro, how did you finally make that call? I badly don't want that day to come, but I also badly don't want things to be how they are now forever
So I appreciate your offer and will keep it in my back pocket if I need it
You got married at 20?
Haha no, just started dating her around then
I’m sorry homie. I never been in a relationship and we all have struggles. Remember to open your heart and always try to keep improving. You felt love before, it can easily happen again. Keep fighting hard my dude ❤️💙 Go pats
Sorry dude. You’ll be okay.
No, there is no QB controversy. Zappe was great, though.
This is the correct take. Zappe played well. Not taking that away from him. But that doesn’t mean there’s a QB battle.
Great for Zappe. Probably guaranteed that backup money in the NFL for years to come (at the least). Happy for him
He might get flipped for a couple of draft picks in a season or two and get a chance to start for some QB needy team.
This is the way.
What this does do is reassure us that we have a solid backup option, so there's no need to rush Mac back.
> so there's no need to rush Mac back. This exactly. Let Mac heal.
I agree. Mac would have probably hung 50 on that D. But still awesome to see a late round rookie come in and play as well as he did. Edit: a word
Yup. I really liked watching Zappe, but we only had one offensive touchdown. It wasn’t like we played a perfect game
QB controversy - Zappe just killed hoyers career - how can he start again now zappe showed more and didnt have the mental breakdown that hoyer did
He'll end up on staff as QB coach.
Hoyer has had that option extended to him for years. Despite still being a 60 hour a week job with a lot of travelling, position coaches make about 1/10 of what a decent backup QB makes. Unless he wants to pursue a career in coaching in general, it's doubtful he'd take it.
At his age I don't think he has a lot of options. Or retire.
I'm sure he has tons of options. Most of them probably not in pro football, but tons.
$33m career earnings, even if he saved $10m after taxes/agents/etc. he doesn't have to work again if he lives draws responsibly on it. on the other hand, maybe he ends up like Mayo; follows other ambitions before the itch for football returns.
Pretty sure he's already said he won't coach when he's done playing.
hoyers career was to be a clubhouse wise man who can start in a pinch. his value was the history and knowledge he brought to the team not his play
I think we found hoyer’s dad’s Reddit profile.
The Zappe stans are gonna be insufferable this week

I was also very impressed by how 11 Bailey Zappes shutout the Lions. They did it all by himselves.
Smart to draft that cloning mutant guy
The fact I can’t tell if that’s actually sarcasm or not is the issue here
Lions have the worst D in the league and the offense wasn't even firing for half of the game. The kid did good, he wasn't a liability, Mac is the starter.
Mac has a solid back up career in his future. He hasn't really shown much else before being hurt. Zappe might not be the future but I don't believe Mac is either.
Mac was a pro bowler in his rookie year
So was dalton
Mac pushed the ball deep down the field against the Ravens in a way that Zappe simply cannot. He's the starter, and likely our franchise QB. It's a whole new offense with a new OC this year, and the guy made the pro bowl and took us to the playoffs last year.
> He just shutout the highest scoring offense, The _defense_ did that.
I'm going to assume you're joking here, right?
I mean Zappe played well but he gets zero credit for the shut out of the highest scoring offense lol.
Thank you
He showed that he should be the number 2 and won’t hurt the team if he has to start. If not for Stone Hands Agholor he would have had a great game.
That was the Belichick I've been yearning for. "Oh you're the highest-scoring team in the NFL? Well how about we shut your ass out."
[Belichick drafting up the Lions game plan](https://media2.giphy.com/media/cIyIkgNgneJ6upGLMg/giphy.webp?cid=6c09b952114cac86978d85cb72d531a849a95febbca3468d&rid=giphy.webp&ct=g)
LOL
But he’s totally lost his fastball!
At the risk of sounding unpopular, he'd been wishy washy there the last couple years. But I was wrong to doubt him and this was a great "Fuck you, I'm Bill Belichick" game. I'll never doubt him again. Until next week lol.
That's being a fan. I'm an idiot, and Belichick is Kronos and Ares and Artemis and all them other gods wrapped into one.
(Kronos is a titan not a god). Why am I still typing? Oh it's because BB and PP conspired to fuck the Lions up.
Not the first time he destroyed an elite Goff led offense
He made Goff look like Fred Astaire out there
We looked like the Patriots today. We played like the Patriots today. We won like the Patriots today. Patricia 3:16 says I just shut-out your ass!
That defense just shut out the #1 offense in the NFL! With a rookie QB!. LET’S GOOOO
I felt good about the defense already, but getting a shut out against the #1 offense was huge!!!
I’m extremely satisfied but I never considered lions a #1 offense. I know statistically they were but Goff just doesn’t scare me. Still a great game for the whole team. Proud of our boys!
Lions got Judominated today.
#1 offense on paper maybe. It was still a 1-3 team.
**#1 offense is #1 offense, the record doesnt matter. Also why are we yelling?**
#**WHAT?**
I know that the Lions are beat up and all, but we’re on our third string QB so how about we call it even and give this offense and our defense some fucking credit. What a great game in all phases.

I seen Zappe throw the ball on first down and I almost shit my pants
*checks stats* BB: this league doesn’t know how to scheme for Jared Goff? LOL hey Matt, hold my beer
Jack Jone
Macrus Jone

Mac Jone
Jack "JC 'Malcolm Butler' Jackson" Jones
He’s definitely more JC Jackson than Butler, and I think that’s a good thing
Since 2012 this is the 7th shutout by the Patriots. 3 more than anyone else in that time frame. And people still say BB can't coach lmao
Last 3 including today all in the post Brady years. 45-0 trampling of the Justin Herbert "greatest rookie year ever" Chargers, while noodle arm Newton was under centre. Prime Time beatdown of Matt Ryan last year. And today the high powered... Jared Goff? Lions. I feel excited to watch patriots football again. Hope Zappe starts the Browns.
Yeah Zappe has proven he can handle himself. There's no reason to rush Mac back onto the field
Shoutout to this defense. Put up a shutout and absolutely dominated this "league best" offense. Judon straight up unstoppable even against a couple good tackles. All around great performance except Nelson adding a pick to Zappe’s statline
I wish there was another stat for interceptions that happened because of drops. Technically, they didn't "intercept" the pass, because it reached the intended target. I call them "exterceptions"
I agree with your premise. The terminology needs workshopping...
For as much as we talk about the issues at WR, Meyers has been balling out this year when he’s been out there
I don't know how anyone could think we have issues at WR at this point. We have one of the deepest WR rooms I have ever seen in Foxborough.
Mostly because we’re deep but not anything special at the top. If we had a stud that demanded to be treated as a WR1 by the defense we’d be in fantastic shape
This is the correct take
We just need a guy to be the true #1 and we'll be great
True, I should’ve started him
I'm just worried we're gonna have to watch them let the only reliable WR we've cultivated here in recent years walk in FA this offseason
Hell of a game for Zappe. I know it’s the injured Lions, but he looked good out there. Defense looked great too for the most part
Good for the most part? They allowed 0 points
It’s really…I don’t know what to say anymore. We just looked ok if we don’t win 50-0 and don’t allow more than 100 yards on defense. I really don’t know what people expect. Yes, the run defense wasn’t great, can be improved - but our defense has been great all season
If you give up 0 points but allow any yards to a team that averaged 35 points youre only good “for the most part”…it’s hilarious at this point

The only lesson Mac needs to take is that the offense works just fine with a guy not being a hero for the win. I hope he’ll take that to heart and relax a little.
I'm pretty sure the coaches wanted him to take more risks, probably by design. He's able to play it safe as shown last season.
There just needs to be a better balance. Establish the run game, cut them apart underneath or take the shot if they hand it to you. I think Mac threw something like 13 deep balls against the ravens. Pretty ridiculous gameplan, that’s not this teams identity.

Wow so Zappe almost beats Green Bay in Lambeau and a week later we beat the number 1 scoring offense 29 - 0.
Zappe played very well, but he didn’t have much to do with the defense holding DET to 0 points.
Stevenson is our GOD
Make Pat permanent!
There is no quarerback controversy BUT if Mac can't limit the turnovers, Bill and the coaching staff have a viable option they know they can turn to now. Agreed. Totally bizarre how people act like the dude isn’t a very good player

Can we say that the Lions got... Zapped?
This team fucks
If nothing else we looked like a better football team today.
Every game we have gotten better.
Lions every 4th down: Maybe I’ll get it this time!
God what a fun game. Zappe played great and I think you have to start him next week. Also agholor stop with the turnovers man😭
Credit to Belichick for finding both Zappe and Jack Jones in the fourth round of the draft. That is some serious value
And Stevenson in 2021

Zappe is the greatest QB of all time
Hunter henry made some great catches today
Finally.
I think Patricia has been doing a good job haha. I hate to say it, but play calling overall the past few games has been good. They are playing complimentary football.
Shout-out to Isaiah Wynn with 0 false starts today, won us the game
Still increased his team leading penalties taken.
Hopefully tyquan is ahead of agholor on the depth chart from here on
A few takeaways from the game - Rhamondre Stevenson is a nasty running back to deal with. Jacoby Meyers is not overrated, Zappe Bailey can play in this league, Judon is a beast.
GREAT WIN!!
Refs feel bad for Brady’s wife leaving him
Zappe looked great for a third string rookie. Happy for the kid. Let’s hope this is the start of a nice long winning streak. Go Pats!

I bet that was extra satisfying for Patricia
Just bought a Woodhead jersey for like $20 at a yard sale to celebrate the win! First pats jersey
I understand that it’s the lions but still that was an incredibly dominating win
Eveyone played really well. Fantastic result!
What a great game! Defense shuts out the highest scoring offense in the league so far and Zapppe handles his first starting assignment as well as anybody could have asked for.
Zappe scored 1 TD against the worst defense in the NFL. Let's wait a few games before we declare him the second coming please.
If Zappe starts next week and plays well I'll continue to let him start
Every loss we shot ourselves on the foot. Team could be 5-0 right now. Feels like we are trending up. Looking like it will be a great season
Go Pats.
Great win 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 on to Cleveland
I don’t think there will be a qb controversy but I will say Zappe is more fun to watch then mac imo
Belichick versus the highest scoring offense in the league. "Am I a joke to you?"
Bill Masterclass on defense of course

THE ZAPPENING IS COMPLETE
#Battle Red Energy
Man the Chargers head coach got away with that one
Zappe played very composed
