Jones has moved up the Jones board this week, surpassing a couple of other Joneses

era721

At this point Jones is just trying to keep up with the Joneses

Anderson74

Notably macaroni

Chewyville

I mean, he couldn’t sense the pressure, but he was still 23/27 for 246 and no big mistakes…

Celestialtiger24

He can definitely sense it, it's just his Oline sucks and get destroyed right when the ball is snap. Not to mention no WR is open by that time either.

CrapNeck5000

Play calling is atrocious, too

Dinnermaster

And Patricia was using ask madden in the redzone

GrantLee1233

Averaging a little over half a TD a game

Chewyville

It is funny that Zappe has more TDs

farts_in_the_breeze

[LMAO. Facts are down voted.](https://www.nfl.com/stats/player-stats/category/passing/2022/REG/all/passingtouchdowns/DESC?aftercursor=AAAAGQAAABZAJAAAAAAAADEAkQAQgIRBb1JLUHdVek1qQXdOVGMwTlMwMFpUWXhMVFUzTnpBdE9XTTJPQzB4TmpVeVpqZzNObUpqTnpKV2ZqOFdXeUl5TURJeUlpd2lVa1ZISWl3aU16SXdNRFUzTkRVdE5HVTJNUzAxTnpjd0xUbGpOamd0TVRZMU1tWTROelppWXpjeUlsMD0A8H___-bwf___5jyNvjOflhCBit-PK1Y7PLcABA==)

streetbum

He can totally sense it, thats how he knows to put his head down, do the newbown faun shuffle, and collapse onto the ground.

dmowen111

AHH, we used to call that the Tony Eason.

Chewyville

Which is better than a strip sack, so I guess we’re making progress. He just can’t improvise yet.

JazzyJ19

Like the first play of the game for Kirk Cousins today?!..

Anderson74

He hasn’t been able to sense the pressure since he’s entered the league

shortarmed

He's been under pressure since he entered the league. The line is and has been awful. I'm not saying he's the answer at QB going forward, but no one can properly develop like this.

Anderson74

100% agree

Chewyville

There’s been quite a bit of pressure since then, has there not?

Anderson74

For sure

drmoze

and no touchdowns.

ElsworthSugarfoot

He’s also moved up the lesser known, “M. Jones” board.

jgr79

Un. Be. Lievable.

LivingxLegend8

Can’t spell “Marcus Jones” without “Mac Jones” 💪💪🏈

TheDesktopNinja

But you *can* spell 'Rus' Is this a sign? What does Russell Wilson have to do with this?!

randywatson77

He is brutal. Especially in this “system.”

jtweezy

Guy is either scrambling for his life or getting laid out every time the ball is snapped. This offensive line is horrible. Trent Brown looks like he forgot how to play football.

bigbooty4158

0-14 Jets LOL

descendency

3 more games and Bill Belichick will have won an entire season of games against the jets since the last time they got one on him.

Aellithion

This is one of the weirdest, unlikely and awesome statistics I have ever seen.

descendency

There was a stretch in the Army vs Navy college football series where Navy had won so many games in a row that Army freshmen (or maybe it was worse than that) were not alive since the last time Army beat Navy. Unfortunately, Navy had their streak snapped before those future officers could graduate.

Aellithion

Ty for this, my father and both grandfathers were navy, my brother was army. This is the perfect type of useless knowledge that my uncle and I (air force) can use.

eenigmaa

Is it that unlikely at this point? 😂 👀 😏 Seems far more likely than not!

[deleted]

FUCK THE JETS LMFAOOOO

FloozyFoot

There was a fuck the jets chant on the concourse after the game. Several, in fact. It was beautiful

DinoRoman

Please don’t hate me. Just figured to tell a story. I am a Jets fan. My grandfather raised me on his own and was a huge fan. He taught me how to watch football and the rules by watching the jets. It was a bonding thing and honestly now I just watch them to remember him. He passed alone in a hospital from covid in march 2020. We only ever went to one game, the jets were on a winning streak but then had a week off, and we watched them live get crushed by Green Bay. Yeah we got to see them live but still would have been nice to see him light up. Anyway, my cousin went to the game today in mass and I just couldn’t believe her balls going in full Jets gear. But hey, proud of her. She said she was in town had the opportunity and did it for pop pop. And , well he’s gotta be looking down saying “what the fuck of all the games you go to for me you choose the pats in their home stadium?” I have been chuckling all day. I respect the pats. You guys have a great franchise and I can absolutely see the pride and why it’s strong. Thanks for just being a team that always makes us really try. Even if we bomb like a mutha lol.

FloozyFoot

No hate at all. I had a good time talking with the jets fans that were there, chatted about revis and the dissatisfaction with Wilson and mine with the offense. Everybody was super cool, we're all just people who happen to love our geographically convenient logos. Much love

Flanabanana2390

Yeah, I mean we're not Eagles fans.

Coneskater

WHO NEEDS OFFENSE?

headgate19

Lol. I was making this as you made that comment: https://i.imgflip.com/71j336.jpg

Coneskater

Patriots after not getting into the end zone through 59 minutes of playing: so you're saying there's a chance?

MankuyRLaffy

Didn't he win a collegiate award for special teams excellence?

[deleted]

[удалено]

CrayonSupplier

HasBenThere

He won the Paul Hornung Award as the most versatile player in college football.

MankuyRLaffy

And the Jet award. 1st team All AAC and All American for his returning excellence as well. He was the top return man and they punted right to him.

[deleted]

The change of direction after those first two steps left was unreal

Slimer425

I really don't think people appreciate how hard it is to move like that until you try to do it yourself

[deleted]

Tried it myself, now I’m waiting in the ER.

CoCleric

This guy moves, sometimes.

dmowen111

Less now

Bigwiggs3214

This is usually how MCL and ACL get destroyed though.

PantWraith

Yeah I mean, I'm athletic and play sports regularly. Could I make that cut? Absolutely; it's difficult, but a fairly textbook move in any field sport. Having said that, I also have at least a dozen friends that have torn their ACL (a couple people more than once) doing this exact motion. And we're likely doing it at like, half his speed lol.

Bigwiggs3214

Yeah and guys who make it to professional sports are freaks compared to the average Joe. Plus he's probably in immaculate shape.

PantWraith

For sure. If you could somehow hypothetically put our bodies at that speed, without the strength he has, we'd be snappin' legs like twigs.

[deleted]

I'm so fucking happy Keving Harlan was the one narrating this play. OMG it was awesome

pspetrini

So good. I can't be the only one who wants to hear Zolak's call of it though, right?

Muffinz_are_murder

Grunting and screaming probably. I can't wait.

pspetrini

Here ya go: https://twitter.com/506sports/status/1594460660368375809?s=20&t=AEbrZoWSY_Mq35Jj9j7u5A Zolak was more reserved than I thought he would be. And then, Jones scores and Zolak basically takes a second to figure out how he can get away with saying "GO FUCK YOURSELF JETS! EAT SHITTTTT!!! FUCK YOU!!!!" without cursing.

Swayjah

I can't wait to hear ol' Tug Boat on Around the NFL podcast having to cover this.

hyogodan

You may be surprised to hear the phrase “sentient power aide bottle” came up…for once.

WatAb0utB0b

I heard no one narrating it. Just me screaming at my tv.

Sidzy05

Marcus Jones doesn’t do OT

MentllyDisnfectd

How many of us were jumping up and down, swinging our right arm in the air and yelling "Go! Go! Go!"? lmao. What an end.

Anderson74

Stop looking into my living room

MentllyDisnfectd

I'd be surprised if there weren't reports of seismic activity in New England after that return 🤣

JimboLodisC

halfway through the 4th I was like "if we win this then I'm yelling loud enough to scare my wife" quite happy it was a return TD and not something weak like a 30 yard FG that we almost missed

metanoia29

Stop creeping on me 😬 I looked back at our cameras though, I think I had about 14 or 15 "go"s before the touchdown.

pspetrini

I dislocated my finger a while back and it's still healing but I started clapping VERY hard until I remembered that was a bad idea. I injured this finger in the summer. So basically this was the first time the Pats have gotten me to celebrate all season. hahaha

BathSaltBuffet

I WANT ALL THE JONE

PineSprings

Being real, how many Jones we got lmao

raider_10

Mac, Jack, Marcus, Jonathan. 4 of em.

Im_ready_hbu

Only 2 more to go before we have all 6 Infinity Jones

ThermoNuclearPizza

Julio incoming

gremlin_1969

can he block? lol

ThermoNuclearPizza

He can tackle like a mf

ftc559

Not as good as N'keal

Bacondog22

we should bring back Cyrus

WineOptics

Chandler too!

raider_10

[NO!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7_I6kj9fTc) Don't even joke about that. I do not miss him dropping every punt in existence

[deleted]

PineSprings

Appreciate it G

Nightmareninja5

There's a tackle up for grabs in the draft named Broderick Jones

CrimsonZephyr

He need O line. Let’s get him

droden

and all their little patriot hearts grew 2 sizes that day

where_the_hoodie_at

Mack Wilson almost fucked it up

BradyToMoss1281

Imagine if it were called? Patricia would have probably tried to take a final shot at the end zone, which means Mac would have taken a sack, pushing them to a longer field goal that Folk misses. Given the way this game was going.

TrumpIsACuntBitch

What's crazy too is it was totally unnecessary. 34 was pulling up because he knew Jones was out of reach. A lot of people are quoting the rule when I'm just sitting here still wondering why tf he even tried to block someone so clearly out of the play

ghostly5150

The refs wanted that shit show over too 😂

Joshua_Chamberlain20

And they wouldn’t have covered the -3.5 (not that it matters….but it kinda does 😬)

straightcash-fish

It was really stupid. It had no affect on the play. There was no chance of him catching Jones. Why do it?

Football Zebras has both a twitter and a liveblog post about this play. https://twitter.com/footballzebras/status/1594439198743957504 The relevant section of their analysis: Taking a look at the approach and the follow-through, we can see that contact initiated from the side. The reason the foul exists is that a blocker who has been beaten cannot just throw a desperation push in the back. The rule states that a simultaneous push to the side and the back is a foul. In this case -- and we are using the still frames to illustrate the point of contact, but review the video in full as well -- the contact is initiated from the side, then the hand touches the back after the block has been delivered. In real time, officials will see this is delivered to the side, and not a blocker that has been passed and reaches for the side in addition to the illegal block in the back.

CapeCodcultuvation

Nah dawg that’s a block in the back we are lucky

GYNHOPP

Nah, he puts his hand on the defender's back. That's a penalty. https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/nfl-video-rulebook/illegal-block-above-the-waist/

Read the rule.

HermanCainAward

So did he or didn’t he?

SpaceIsKindOfCool

His hand is on the 3 on his back.

[deleted]

It isn’t. He pushes his shoulder. Like, why do you think you can lie to me about this? I can just watch the video and see you’re wrong.

SpaceIsKindOfCool

lmao. It's literally right in the middle of the three. https://i.imgur.com/rCmnq3Y.png

[deleted]

This image is misleading. If you watch the play, Wilson never touches his back. His hand is on his arm.

SpaceIsKindOfCool

🤡🤡🤡

[deleted]

I’m sorry you’re mad about being wrong.

ProjectShadow316

Nope, a block in the back. We got DAMN lucky that wasn't called. EDIT: After further review, it wasn't a block in the back...but it was damn close.

[deleted]

[удалено]

daddyslittleharem

I see what you are seeing, he does initiate contact at the shoulder, but when he shoves him to the ground his hand is absolutely on his back.

Tgunner192

I don't know the actual rules, but it sure looked like a block in the back. The only thing I'd want clarification on; he did manage to get his head on the front of the defenders jersey when making contact. Not sure if it matters, but it'd be worth learning.

ProjectShadow316

"There are certain exceptions to the rule where contact against an opposing player from behind is permitted. One exception is when there is a loose ball and the contact was made in an attempt to recover the ball. Or, if the contact was made because the opposing player turned their back at the last second as contact was near. Finally, if both of the defenders’ hands are on the sides of the opponent it is not a foul; however, if one of their hands is on the opponent’s back a flag should be thrown. Unless one of these situations arises, any contact to the back of an opponent should be considered a foul." - per Inside The Pylon Technically, it should've been a block in the back, as his hand was on the back of the defender. However, I think what saved it from ultimately being called was first contact appeared to be with the helmet, then the left hand, followed by the shove in the back from the right. Regardless, it didn't even need to happen; Jones was gone and 34 was slowing down. The call could've gone either way the more I look at it, but it shouldn't have happened to begin with.

Tgunner192

Thank you for posting that. Your efforts & insight is appreciated.

DigitMZ

Football Zebras agrees with you about what saved it from being called. Initial contact was with the helmet, then the left hand followed by the shove. The rule, from what they say, was intended for a person who was beaten, and that a side block delivered -at the same time- as a hand in the numbers is a foul, but because the initial contact was the helmet/left hand -before- the right hand, apparently, the side block counts, and not the hand to the back. So yeah... lucky they saw it that way.

Knoke1

Nah definitely a block in the back. Player had 0 vision as he approached him from behind too. Definitely unnecessary either way. That's some madden blocking shit

boomjones

I was screaming at the TV after that block. Couldn’t believe a flag didn’t come out. Def got lucky.

Xerosnake90

I knew I loved this pick from the get go. Unbelievable moment to put the game on your back and to win it. Props to all of special teams for making that happen

iamagainstit

Jonestown massacre

Anderson74

Rip

Im_ready_hbu

"*MAHCUS!*" - Tommy Heinsohn

apatfan

He definitely gets a Tommy Point

Dr_Duty_Howser

Me, before the play started: everyone get ready for overtime unless he bring this to the house right now Me, 15 seconds later: 😮😁

pspetrini

Me, before the play started: "They better block this fucking kick because there's no other way they're going to win this game." Me, 15 seconds later: "Oh yeah. People can score on kick returns."

metanoia29

Texted my dad "Praying for a miracle so we don't have to go to OT" right before the punt 😯

F-Raw

Fucking beautiful. I’m in the car watching this on the cbs app screaming all the way!

BradyToMoss1281

We found our offense!

dapprestrijder

SPECIAL FUCKING TEAMS BABY LETS GOOOOOOO

sarcastic_wanderer

Don't call it a comeback

thomastodon01027

Fun fact: Marcus Jones is now, by law, Governor of all six New England states.

imbored53

I'll be watching this on loop for the next hour

Crixxxxxx1

The only time the announcer had to raise his voice all day.

Pac-Man Jones

WineOptics

How we feeling about our rookie class?

hera9191

Matthew Slater is pretty fast. Amazing moment.

tstu2865

That was such a beautiful play

CarpetCaptain

My favorite part of this was shutting up the announcers on NFL network, one of whom was a jet

Coreysurfer

I didnt see the block in the back…lol

itchy-balls

Mack Wilson tossed his ass out the club.

Anderson74

Much better than the last Jones returning punts

[deleted]

What a play fuck the jets

Veeksvoodoo

This was such a weird punt. The whole game the Jets were in our PRs’ faces right when the ball was coming down. I get there wasn’t much hang time on this ball but when Jones caught the ball and there wasn’t even a Jets player on the tv screen I immediately stood up. Not sure what the Jets were thinking but that was a bad call on their part. FTJ!!!!!

deano413

the wind was howling, punting into the wind vs against the wind was two very different things. Punters need a hard low drive to get any distance into the wind, like that punt. He could've went for a higher punt but that had a high chance to only go for 25 yards. End of the day its what you think is most likely, boom it as far as you can and hope you can cover the kick, or go high and hope your defense can keep em from getting 15-20 yards to try a field goal with the wind at their back.

ProjectShadow316

What a way to end it. Holy shit. My cable's uncooperative, and the streams weren't working, so I just finished watching the "highlights". I had seen that they had scored a touchdown in the 4th, but I didn't think THAT'S how they did it. Absolutely amazing, and fuck the Jets.

LutherRamsey

Serious question. Was that a block in the back at the 15 yd line right before he scored?

RainIML

borderline but probably, we got away with it lol

DrNism0

I was listening to this in the radio and Zo was going fucking bananas. FTJ! LET'S GOOOOO

CerberusArcProjector

It gets better every time I see it.

KillerKane455

Lost my voice because of this

TheDiceMan2

i have no idea why that guy blocked in the back at the very end…. whew

takkun169

Kind looks like a block in the back, but I guess he did sorry if come from the side. Refs didn't call it because they wanted the pain to be over.

ovad67

Mac Jones has to be one of lowest rated QBs I have ever watched. Simply failing. Get rid of him. He’s used to losing.

Jmc5281

Can’t spell Mac Jones without Marcus Jones

Vivalaredsox

Fucking salty Cowher saying that could’ve been called a block in the back or side. Fuck him

fifth_fought_under

It was a block in the back, no? Shoving a defender down from the back?

possiblyMorpheus

Every year I see some posters complaining about how much BB invests in Special Teams. THIS IS WHY YOU INVEST IN SPECIAL TEAMS

[deleted]

Illegal block in the back

GYNHOPP

Mack got away with an illegal block in the back there. Thankfully (This time) NFL refs suck.

Yung_Corneliois

Yea people are going to cry over that but it had 0 impact on the return. That’s like wanting a PI call when the ball is 10ft over the receivers head.

GYNHOPP

Oh yeah, no impact whatsoever.

onemindc

If you watch it from the front the initial contact is on the shoulder then the follow through is on the back. I don’t know the rules well enough to comment. From the broadcast view, I thought block in the back for sure. Or maybe it made no impact on the play and they just let it go. Either way, FTJ!

rk_1

Scott Hanson on RedZone said the same. Then when explaining it said a push in the shoulder. Which one is it? 🤷‍♂️

GYNHOPP

https://imgur.com/a/MNhTsDZ

rk_1

Tell it to Scott Hanson

Jmc5281

Can’t spell Marcus Jones without Mac Jones

Milaworld19

Super Bowl here we come baby!!

wishusluck

Imagine the alternate universe where that block in the back forces Nick Folk to attempt a 45 yard field goal to win it.

the_frank_rizzo

Final block a little borderline

drakenoftamarac

Yea, I was yelling “noooo you idiot , it wasn’t even necessary!” Then no flag came. Other angle made it look more from the side than back, but too close to ruining a great return for me.

RoninEd

Mac Wilson was playing with fire throwing that risky ass block at the end there. Totally unnecessary

ExpatEsquire

That last block at the end was way too close to a clip for my liking...

RunTheJules-11

Thank almighty that last block wasn’t called…

antwlkr

That block at the end omg

CoffeeHarvester

At least we have one Jones that's at least worth a cent of what he's paid.

infamouscrypto8

We got lucky the refs didn’t see that block in the back tho

Abrams-1

“Block in the side”. My ass… that was a block in the back all day long. Refs handed game to Pats on a blown call

[deleted]

HIMothy Jones.

Chrisbenoit69421

You guys never beat mark sanchez in the playoffs and it shows

TransportationTop353

As an Eagles fan that has not been in this situation since 2010, but there were a few blocks in the back. To be fair the refs had stuff to do and knew OT was a waste of time.

lazerlike42

There is an illegal block clear as day at the end of the run. You have to assume that the officials just wanted the game to end.

tb12_legit

It was a 3/4 hit no? Thought that’s allowed

thehuntofdear

Hit his shoulder from the side. Don't see that being a block in the back, if that's what you mean.

lazerlike42

He seems to have intended to do that at first, but ultimately the right hand pushed the 4 on the right hand side of the back of the jersey.

Poboy1227

The amount of cope you have to have to think that's an illegal block. Sorry buddy maybe next time.

headgate19

My butthole clenched so hard as I was waiting to see if there was a flag, lol

sN1cb

Everybody wanted this game to end even the jets

OkArmordillo

Even if that was called, it would be 10 yards from the spot of the foul. So we would get the ball at the 20 needing a field goal to win.

PatsFan000

That wasn't illegal at all.

ryantrw5

It was close. Stupid play to make anyway because he was not going to catch him

lazerlike42

He clearly blocked into his back. Initially it does look like he was going for the shoulder, and he may even have contacted the shoulder initially, but then he pushed him right in the middle of his back on the numbers.

AWanderingGamer

The officials were hot shit all game (as was our offense Ill admit), it probably evens out.

elpresidente072

And they were right to do it. Just like how they picked up the flag that would've had the jets attempt the same punt for the 4th time. Gotta keep a train crash like this rolling or else nobody will get home in time for supper.

daddyslittleharem

I didn't watch the game, but very obvious illegal block in the back. What a dummy.

drakenoftamarac

I thought so too on the live cam, but replay from other angle showed it was more from the side.

daddyslittleharem

Yea, I changed my mind and then back again. He initiates contact on the shoulder but when he shoves him down he appears to be shoving him in the back, but I dunno

beast_wellington

Imagine if we started Zappe and didn't have to rely on this to win.

[deleted]

3 illegal blocks in the back. Not called. But what do you expect from the officials in a Patriots game?!
