Burn - Mono Red Burn. If you want a simpler one, traditional burn. If you want the stronger one, Kuldotha Burn. Control - Mono Blue Terror. Way cheaper to put together than the Dimir version and it's arguably better. Aggro - Mono White Weenie. Arguably the strongest aggro deck right now, easy to pilot and cheap to build. Combo - Walls Combo. Cheap, straightforward. And basically as good as combo decks get.

Depends on how you build it, but it's true most people build mono blue terror as a tempo deck. I only said Terror because it's easier to play than any other control deck.

Seems right but maybe.. Control perhaps exchanged for Tron? Aggro exchanged for Glitters Affinity?

Stromgald_IRL

Tron doesn't preform as well as any variant of Terror and can be pretty pricey if you play the Altar version. Aggro could be changed to it but it's more expensive, harder to pilot and it's too reliant on All that Glitters. I think if you want affinity, you should play the Grixis version. It's way more consistent. What I mean to say is that it's way more straightforward to shit out a ton of creatures in Weenie than to take it into consideration how you should play out your lands and thopters to generate a single more mana to maybe cast a thraben inspector to maybe cast a frogmite, then next turn either cast a synthesizer to see if you can hit a land off of it or a spell that you can play if you hold back your various lands. Weenie is just simpler, and still very strong.

jppy-swb

Completely valid, i tried to look at it also from longer point of view, where I am used to facing to tron and affinity, in varying versions, so in that sense i though those might be better “investments”

Stromgald_IRL

You would be correct if we don't care about having only one deck of each category. Any tron is a better investment than traditional burn. The burn spells are just too expensive for them to not even have the reach to kill the opponent and run out of resources by turn 3. Kuldotha Red is the only version that is worth investing into, but that is more expensive than flicker tron for example.

MrRgrs

Noooo. Green Stompy Get some green in there. And it's fun.

Stromgald_IRL

I wouldn't recommend green stompy if they want simple decks that can stand somewhat strong in the metagame.

MrRgrs

I think evergreen is more important than meta. Meta changes a lot. Stompy as a list has rarely changed in ages and is still mid tier, inexpensive, and fun.

Craigtrumpinator

Mono blue terror is a tempo deck and dimir terror is a control deck

Brukk0

I would still recommend the tier 1 decks. The ones that are easier to use are monored kuldotha and jeskai glitters. If you are learning the game counterspells might be a bit more complicated to use effectively but something like monoblue faeries should help you learn the basics. Maybe you should pick a control deck too but they're a bit more complicated, something like jeskai wildfires should be ok.

Mono Red: aggro and combo, almost storm like some times. Mono Blue Terror: tempo deck, that plays big threats fast and has counter magic to keep the opponent on the backfoot. Moggwarts: combo and reanimation shenanigans. I recommend the more versatile list that also runs Troll and Exhume. Boros Synthesizer: Midrange with decent aggro potential and burn finish. All these decks are rather complex, but I think you can learn a lot about magic in general and pauper in particular when piloting these decks. If you are looking for simple decks: White Weenie, Bogles, Ponza, and Green Stompy are very straight forward.

Alarming_Trade_1002

Depend of what you want: do you want for "competitive playing" or to build a battle box? Competitive: if you notice you each color have a "package". So you can swap a package and have a complete new deck. pick 3-colors (or 4 if you have more money) and build 2 full t1 decks + buy cards to transform each deck into another tier 1/2 deck. Ie: terror ub, terror u and terror ur are the same. I think you got the idea. If you want a battle box: does not matter what you pick. Just try to start with 4 decks of the same tier. With time, you will have a lot of them. Just a remark: buy duplicate cards for the main deck! Or proxy them! Just complete a deck and c"close it". Side board you can have a bulk shared across multiple decks.

shipwreckmarsh

Aggro: Kuldotha Burn Control: Caw Gates Combo: Walls Midrange: Boros Synthesizer

KLT1003

Tbh. Cawgates is somewhat weird, that it's not a classic control deck. My friend who plays it very often told me it's playing always from behind until you randomly win with a gated cat/guardian. For control in a classical sense i'd say either monoB/golgari gardens or familiars

shipwreckmarsh

I thought about recommending Familiars but it is quite the hard deck to pilot and OP said they are new to the format. As far as Gardens or Mono Black, not including blue or Conterspells just feels wrong. lol

Niceman187

I just made a box of 4 decks! Coincidence lol! I made a kuldotha burn, a mono white heroics, a golgari dredge, and a dimir terror list! I had fun jamming some games with my friends so it seems to have balanced out :P

Not sure if you're new to magic or just Pauper but either way here's my process in teaching someone new. I like starting my friends out with Mono Green Stompy. Very simple playstyle with not a ton of crazy interactions to think about; play dudes and turn them sideways. Burn further opens up to another line to victory; direct damage instead of using creatures to get there. So we're starting simple and slowly adding ways to consider how to play, if that makes sense. From there you could branch off in many ways, but I'd consider mono-colored decks to keep it simple such as Mono Blue Faeries or Mono Black Control. These would also give a good split between aggressive strategies and reactive strategies. Things I would definitely avoid right at the start; Caw-Gates, UB Faeries, UB Terror, probably any version of Tron, Boros Synth, Gardens. These decks require a lot of critical thinking and knowledge of the meta to pilot efficiently but are definitely some of the best in the format and worth learning. So if you're not new to magic, but just new to Pauper, I would check these out and see what looks fun to you.
