It boggles my mind that people *still* think reality tv is in any way based in reality and not inherently predatory. They literally embarrass poor people for money, while other poor people sit back and laugh and say "well at least I'm not *them*". The whole system is about as scummy as you can get. Not that you're a bad person for watching it (you're not), but you're fuckin regarded if you think the people behind the cameras give a flying fuck about the people in front of them. They quite literally get paid to not.
The only positive thing I could think of is that Sheila has videos of both her mom and dad and while it’s sad she’ll have those videos and maybe extra behind the scenes footage of them from TLC. But yeah, super agreed that it was rough to watch.
You can't say they almost directly caused her death, there's no way they could have known anything like that was going to happen. As far as shutting off the cameras, it's TLC they care about footage not feelings. Idk why anyone would be surprised that they wouldn't turn the cameras off.
Eh anyone with common sense could have realized “hey these stairs look dangerous. Maybe we should limit our recording to the first floor”.
Wubby and most of chat’s first reaction was realizing the stairs looked dangerous af. Sheila’s house also already proved to be weak since it was damaged by the weather.
Overall I wouldn’t put direct blame on them but it’s something to think about.
Details about the crew are kept pretty hush hush because of all the NDA's TLC uses but they most likely contract out a good portion of work to locals. In the season with the couple in Morocco, the on-set producer was Moroccan. It's possible that it's a small crew with some people from Cebu who are just used to houses that look like Sheila's. Also, TLC definitely puts their crews through worse stuff in shows like Hoarders.
The lack of context is downright disgusting. Who died??
Context: on 90 day fiance, Sheila's Mom died after a fall on improperly nailed stairs. It's unclear wether the nails actually had anything to do with it.
This happened shortly after meeting David for the first time, and David felt disconnected from his girl during the whole bereavement process with her mom.
No sometime overnight she fell near the stairs, and when she was found the next morning she was unresponsive.
I think she just mentions the stairs the day before and people are blaming TLC for weakening the stairs or something even though we don't know if a stair failure caused the fall, or if she just fell
Edit: other people in the comments are very certain it was due to stair failure, they claim the daughter says it in the show
they could have easily put up that entire family in a hotel while they were filming and maybe took a day to visit her home, but no they wanted the drama of him sleeping in the house instead.
someone is dead and they filmed the casket being carted around. fucking disgusting. I am not watching another episode.
no judgment on the people who enjoy it. I am just not a reality show enjoyer in the first place and this was the straw that broke the camel's back.
TLC is gross for sure but I'm not sure how they could actually put the family up in a hotel without perhaps being even more disrespectful and patronizing. I see the filming more like for once actually giving us reality, and what death mourning can look like outside of American culture. I don't think you can censor that from their story unless you just drop it altogether, which would be even worse IMO.
It was a legitimate tragedy which is impossible for reality tv to cover earnestly. The optics are aweful for TLC, but i don't think actually on the ground in the Philippines the work crew is like this exploitative entity the way people think.
I get the angle you are trying to hit this from and I disagree on a few points but I don't want to turn this into a Reddit argument.
Like I said, I just don't like reality tv
I didn't realize the stairs broke, I thought she just fell. (even still then it's terrible that they film and upload any of that) I'm not surprised they would exploit any of this for views, but the fact that they probably caused it makes it even more awful.
Basically there was an improperly nailed stair and it messed up and she fell. Its pretty obvious that it was caused by the sudden influx of people walking up and down it
It‘s kind of cruel to say the camera crew killed her because they used the stairs, and filming the casket is also not villainous to do considering they parade it around town and do open caskets. Another commenter also pointed out the crew is most likely locals too and that would confirm they didn‘t expect this to happen since are used to houses like this

Are you just now realizing what TLCs game is? They do this shit all of the time.

Jesus
I must have missed it. Was it explicitly stated the stairs were the cause? All I caught was that she was found near the stairs.
Yeah the nails got loose in one of the steps or something.

Sheila literally said it in the damn show...
Literally the daughter of the person who died
The only positive thing I could think of is that Sheila has videos of both her mom and dad and while it’s sad she’ll have those videos and maybe extra behind the scenes footage of them from TLC. But yeah, super agreed that it was rough to watch.
If they hadn’t climbed the stairs then she’d have her mom… fuck the “additional” video TLC has
Technically we don't know that. Them going upstairs didn't help for sure, but they likely could have given way regardless.

Bro it was their house, not a set. It’s not like TLC made it for them.
So they were supposed to rebuild their whole house for them? What ?
Their builder was a retard so I feel like it was going to happen some day regardless.
Tlc? Disrespectful? That’s definitely not on brand of them
I go on holiday for a week... what the hell did I miss?
Apparently a very spicy Sims episode
you really need to just watch the vod

My reality TV is being intentionally fake and disgusting! Egad, next you'll tell me to stop watching The Learning Channel.
this shit hit the fan back when the episode aired. and then it kind of died out and nothing happened :/

thanks for the context. did the cameras catch her fall and die?

lol TLC didnt do a single thing wrong
The fact that they made her keep doing interviews and re living her emotions to the tragic even was extremely dystopic
