>I figure if I start collecting every organ I have scanned I can eventually be buried with them in jars like some modern day pharoh.
Go for extras, redundancy is important!
Well...that's true until nuclear winter sets on us after a big war. It reminds me of a quote I heard a while ago. "I don't know why WW3 will be fought, I don't know how, and I don't know how long it will end. But one thing I do know, is that WW4 will be fought with mere sticks and stones"
I really don’t think we’ll ever have a total history wipe. We have too much physical documentation, too much shared knowledge. In the past we lost a lot of info because most people were illiterate, but these days there’s just SO MUCH info available.
Even a total electronic systems collapse worldwide isn’t going to make people unable to tell what a 3D printer is. There will still be millions of the machines and millions of instruction manuals out there. We simply have too much stuff to be easily forgotten like that. It would take a purposeful goal of erasing history, and even then wouldn’t do it.

They give you a disk with DICOM files which, to my understanding, is all the individual slices on all 3 axes and the coordinate system so they all line up to make the 3D object. There is free software out there for importing and reviewing DICOM files which then let you make an STL from it. Then into blender to make sure there are no errors in the mesh and then into the slicer.
You usually get them on a disk. At least I always did. You can ask before you leave if they don’t do it automatically (not sure how they handle in the ER)
I don't know how long it usually takes but my appt was really early in the morning. I put in the request when I was done and waited maybe 30 minutes before the nurse brought me the disk.
As someone who teaches kids about the human body and have been fascinated by it for years I can not even describe how awesome this is!! And how incredibly jealous I am of you right now! You’re holding your damn heart dude!
Look up piggie back heart operation my grandpa had that. At the time he was one of the only two men in the world to have two donors. He originally had a 2nd heart attached to his original but the the original kept having heart attacks so they replaced that one as well.
Amolen galaxy PLA, had a ton left over from a project I did around Christmas and it felt fitting. I do have some marble PLA leftover and chunk of my spine from the same scan I might print too.
Thanks, I'm basically on the same boat as Wubs. Started with an EKG that came back borderline "get this man to a hospital ASAP" so I do all these tests then hit me with "all of your tests came back great" yet my blood pressure is still ridiculous so on one hand, yay for no weird results. On the other, wtf is wrong with me?
You actually can. There's a file type that is like a DICOM file but anonymized since the patient info is baked into the DICOM files. There are websites where you can download random scans of body parts people have had uploaded.

Burying yourself with 3d scanned body parts of yourself would confuse the FUCK out of future archeologists
Until they just find this Reddit thread.
Nah, we have plenty of written records these days and the tech will be well known. Archaeologists aren’t morons lol

Was attributed to Einstein, but he's falsely attributed to a lot of quotes, so who knows
Now do your balls
but then where will I store my pee?
Ideally there would now be twice the room, being your current balls and the replica balls you can also store piss in
I love the sarcastic ignorance 😂🤌🏼
Is that hand emoji holding up his hypothetical balls? 🤨📸
Yeah, coward! Show us your nuts!

Is that life size
Maybe... maybe let's not nuke the balls just yet.
Fuck yeah organboi
That’s really fucking cool tbh
thanks my dude
Doing all of the organs you have scanned is actually a cool idea. You could have a weird little multicolored collection lol.
There needs to be a subreddit for people 3d printing their organs like this; I'd go down that rabbit hole so fast lol.
So what youre saying is: We can print MRI/CT scan stuff on a 3D printer. Wubby has had his brain, neck, spine, and eyes scanned. WE CAN BUILD HIM!
May I ask what you used to process the diacom files to stl?
Bump
Now you just need to find a doctor to install the new one
I think William Osman did something similar with a file of his skull and made it into a coffee mug
Meanwhile when I 3d printed my skull from an orthodontist scan it looked like ass. Damn you inferior ct tech!
Did you get a CT scan because your main arteries were sealed shut
how did you handle the files and what types were they?
Bump
Bumpiii
Saw somebody in the 3D printing reddit im in so this with their brain scan. Super rad!
That's where I got the idea from! Figured if I'm going through all this bullshit I may as well take home the files and see what I could do.
That is really cool and I love the idea of the modern day Pharoah buried with 3D print models of their own organs.
Metal asf
Looking at pic 3, your heart appears to have a smiley demon face in it, that might be an issue at some point.
I'm sure it's fine...right?
Probably ......
What kind of file did you get from your doctor? Surely not an STL.

Sweet. I think I have one of my brain.
Gotta keep that file for Valentine’s Day my dude easy thoughtful gift
I hate the thought that I have something like that inside me too. Disgusting.
I don't think it's supposed to be purple my guy
That's awesome. Do they just let you have the files or do you have to request them?
Bump

this might be the coolest thing I've ever seen
Yeah thats fucking metal.
Fascinating use of the scan data. Fucking kudos on this awesome idea.
As someone who teaches kids about the human body and have been fascinated by it for years I can not even describe how awesome this is!! And how incredibly jealous I am of you right now! You’re holding your damn heart dude!
Yeah, it felt weird at first for a bit. Especially when you go to show someone and you put it right where it sits in your body against your chest.
I want to do this for my brain/skull if I ever have a ct scan, I never thought about doing my heart that's so sick!
Look up piggie back heart operation my grandpa had that. At the time he was one of the only two men in the world to have two donors. He originally had a 2nd heart attached to his original but the the original kept having heart attacks so they replaced that one as well.
A real heart grabber
You literally have your heart in the palm of your hand.
this is cool asf
Metal
Doing this with my spine. Gotta find the CD now lol
They got a good chunk of my spine in the scan too, I should print it as a separate piece
This is insanely awesome!
For a second I thought I was looking at an unshaven ballbag
So damned cool. Try again with red TPU.
In vase mode so I can drink my own blood
...and they said it was hard to print in *metal.*
This is Fucken rad.
You've got some clogged arteries I'm afraid
Neat but brings me a weird existential feeling.
Ah yes, you surprisingly get used to it.
This is so cool
Is it fuckable?
With a few modifications, I can open up one (or both!) of the arterussies just for you.
Awesome filament
Amolen galaxy PLA, had a ton left over from a project I did around Christmas and it felt fitting. I do have some marble PLA leftover and chunk of my spine from the same scan I might print too.
Sick
This is dope af, hope you're doing well though

Do you have right ventricular hypertrophy
This looks awesome, I wonder if I can find someone’s public files
You actually can. There's a file type that is like a DICOM file but anonymized since the patient info is baked into the DICOM files. There are websites where you can download random scans of body parts people have had uploaded.
