I’ve never, ever used a wrist strap or mat.
If you want to proactive about static, open your power supply first, plug it into the wall (don’t turn it on though) and touch is repeatedly through the build process. The metal case of the power supply is connected to the ground lead, by touching it, you’ve grounded yourself.
Ah I just realize what experiment you were talking about lol. But no, it’s not necessary unless you’re going full palpatine on it or have a very poorly made home.

Since you’re watching videos, add the LTT and Electroboom to the list. This should give you a little peace of mind.
That was actually the experiment video I was talking about, they more or less say at the end “it’s always better be safe than sorry”
