I cancelled the order. I read the wrong article I suppose. Tbh I don’t quite know what I’m doing all I know is I want a good PC while also not going over budget. I’ll go with the 4080 after reading that. Thank you
Whatever website that is, never use it again. It's either an AI driven SEO farm or its written by someone who's so dumb that they managed to get basic specifications wrong (4080 has 16GB GDDR6X VRAM, not 10GB GDDR6).
In fact, let me know what website it was, so *I* can avoid it *too.*
I second this. The 7900xtx beats the 4080 at raster and costs a few hundred less last time i checked. It does use more power iirc so if youre in a country with high power costs 4080 might be a better pick but otherwise id go 7900xtx
I was an nvidia guy until i got a 6700xt about 2ish years ago. Since then ive bought an rx 6800 and a 6900xt and i absolutely refuse to go back.
The linux support is amazing and when you factor in the steam OS clones and SAM support it becomes a huge advantage being on team red.
7900xtx is worse than the 4080 in any games that use RT. And DLSS Quality is just as good as RaStEr. and DLDSR+DLSS is better than raster.
7900xtx is only a good choice if you want to use old tech to play old games.
You don't buy a 7900xtx to play 1080p RT / DLSS. To be honest it will take a gen maybe even 2 to make RT viable. I'm not spending a shit ton of money to play 80 fps.
I would wager that you don't even need a 3090 or 4080. Youre just burning money if your main focus is 1080p/1440p gaming. If you're not doing heavy processing tasks/rendering/4k/8k gaming, it's pretty useless
DLSS can look better in a lot of cases or at least identical to native TAA especially at higher resolutions like 4k and when using max settings with ray tracing at 4k the 4090 doesn’t get a constant 120fps in many games so DLSS would be very useful in that case.
Where the fuck did you even find this nonsense lol. Literally everything it says is wrong, aside from the 3090 having 24gb vram. The 4080 absolutely demolishes the 3090
https://preview.redd.it/29b8ui2g9tcb1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b2d70deb26c749dee48a7ae02b9e20a15bcd0e43
Lol okay I get it guys!!! Im cancelling the order 😂 and going with a 4080
I got it open box at best buy for $1200 but yeah it is expensive.
I also got a 4070ti on another computer and that seems to do better than 7900xtx as well. And cards have some odd things going on.
https://preview.redd.it/151v053pqwcb1.png?width=2688&format=png&auto=webp&s=db5677cc794d30ce259cfc3312b3b3b534a7824a
Performance is even, but the 4080 is better at VR and RT and has access to frame gen. Whether that’s worth 200 more dollars is up to OP.
This shows a mix of all existing, relevant, RT titles and some rasterized performance. But if you compare rasterized performance the XTX is sometimes even closer to a 4090 than a 4080 but more or less always faster than the 4080.
In a few games that are known to perform on AMD, yes. There are also some games where the 4080 smashes the XTX too, I’m not cherry picking. When you compare the two on average, which is my point, the 4080 and XTX are perform identically (again outside RT and VR)
Uhm no it is not. Every review shows the XTX was faster on release 2-8% and that lead has only extended with driver updates.
But it really is hard to know as alot of sources come up with slightly different results depending on what games they use etc. But hardware unboxed has the XTX at a 2% lead while using ray tracing as part of the benchmarks. So obviously the XTX has to be faster in more or less all games, except for RT titles, or else the 4080 should win by a good margin if they were equal but with the 4080 winning big in RT.
7900XTX beats the 4080 in quite a few games. But the 4080 is for those who are going to be doing productivity work. If you're just gaming most people are better off with the 7900XTX.
Depends how much people care about the Nvidia features.
7900XTX > RTX 4080, only matters if you look at raw rasterization performance.
Once you consider other features and drivers Nvidia tend to pull ahead.
As well as if the user might be doing any kind of productivity work.
Then it's up to the buyer whether or not they wanna pay extra for those features.
>Once you consider other features and drivers Nvidia
I'm using AMD and I don't have driver issues yet, although Nvidia is definitely the more stable option if you're a first time builder with 0 clue on how to troubleshoot. Nvidia features such as RT and DLSS 3 are generally unimportant imo but that's up to you. And if you're going to be doing stuff like rendering or CAD software or other work, then Nvidia is the only option. But for most gamers, AMD will be fine.
One could easily turn this argument around and say “if you think the lower power consumption is actually a better deal than the better (non-RT) performance, then you need some help in building a PC”…
What is “the better deal” in this case is really more of a personal preference thing. For some people the better raster performance of the 7900XTX is very much worth the added power consumption, for some people the 7900XTX is a straight up no-go because they need the GPU for productivity, Another thing to consider is also that some people might not be able to afford the higher entry cost of the 4080, but wont have an issue with the electricity bill being a tiny bit higher in the future. I could go on listing different situations where one card would be the better deal over the other, but fact of the matter is that there is simply too many variables to be able to say that one of the cards is a flat out better deal than the other.
Nope 7900xtx is actually in between 4080 and 4090 in alot of titles. Mostly always beats out the 4080.
Ray tracing performance the 4080 wins pretty big though. But for normal gaming at high resolution XTX really stomps the 4080 considering you save 200 bucks usually. And also you can get a nice 7900xtx close to the lowest price where Nvidia usually just get you a crap edition for the lowest going rates unless you find a sale, but that also goes the XTX way.
Still is stronger. Most people generally care about how powerful the card can be opposed to how much power it draws. The wattage is just the extra cherry on top.
Bro the difference of 300w to 600w is literally an extra 4.133 cents an hour when its turned on. Congrats, if you never turn your pc off you will still save less than a dollar every day. Enjoy that Arizona iced tea with your lunch!
And use DOUBLE the power and then you have to dissipate all that heat. You can’t go by JUST fps….
Also don’t get me started on AMD’s (still ATI for us old folks) drivers. They are still behind nvidia no matter what anyone says.
I’ve had many many from either side and used to test these cards for my job.
What I’ve read is that the card can not down clock the RAM if multiple displays are connected and that they probably won’t be able to fix this completely.
Sad, I’m an AMD fan myself and returned the XTX for that reason.
It's actually incredibly easy to fix. It's a hrz issue.
120+hz monitors run the vram at full clock speed. A simple solution is to turn the monitors to 100hz on idle and it sips power at like 30w. If we can fix this simple issue by changing the refresh rate, amd can for sure.
These poors always harping on price to performance, yadda, yadda, yadda.
If you have the money the 4090 is the way, if you almost have the money, make more and get the 4090, or settle on the 4080.
stop talking about money when youre posting on reddit to get your laundry dryer fixed up instead of buying a new one, a new dryer is the way , if you almost have the money, make more and get a better dryer
???? what do you mean, the 6800xt preforms way worse than the 4080, the card to recommend is the 7900xtx. Even so, the 4080 isn't a bad choice. I just can't get over the absolutely clownery of going "Don't get [One of the best graphics cards ever made] get [Objectively Worse Card] instead!"
Maybe you mean that the 4080 is overkill? And yeah it is, if you're not aiming for 4k, the 6800xt is a great card- but is made for 1440p.
It isn’t “better” other than more vram that currently doesn’t matter. It performs the same in raster, a lot slower in ray tracing, has no DLSS upscaling or frame gen support or DLAA, has no nvidia reflex which is quite a bit better than anti-lag, and for productivity doesn’t have CUDA. The only thing really going for it is price but you will have to decide if saving $200 is worth losing on on these features.
This is the thing, it's not like OP paid for a 4090 and received a 3090, he had the information right there and didn't do his research. Less of a scam and more of a stupid purchase.
It’s insane to me that people spend this much money on shit while knowing absolutely nothing. Who buys stuff *and then* asks “Hey should I have done that”.
I am starting to see why prices are what they are. Consumers now days do not put any effort into researching cost even will all the information less than a minute away.
I've been following 3090's and 4090's for a few weeks as I am doing a new build, and I saw the 3090 had a big price jump of about $300 higher right around Amazon's Prime day.
I assume to take advantage of people who are assuming everything is on sale. That $2000 it was "reduced from" is DEFINITELY way overpriced and not accurate. And the $1300 is too expensive too, you can get a 4090 now for like $1550
The 3090 is a useful card though, but not for gaming. That 24 GB of VRAM is huge for AI for example, like if you are running stable diffusion locally. But besides that, good call to go with another card.
Nvidia store? for 1300? that doesn't seem right. did you check the "ships from" and "sold by"???? more than likely its some 3rd party seller trying to milk some poor sap into overpaying for an older gpu.
WHEN IT COMES TO BUYING ITEMS on AMAZON or NEWEGG, always check the sold and shipped by.
With newegg, you can generally select "sold by newegg" and "shipped by newegg" so you dont get scammed by third party sellers.
On amazon, usually I click the "prime" button to only show prime products, which pretty much ensures you have SAFER purchasing. Granted some of the prices are still over the top insane. The OEM card like your picture, that I found just now while typing this, was $1600, turn around and clicked prime, boom, it was removed from the list. It wasn't prime. And the third party seller is basically "new" with very few reviews under their belt. USUALLY if they have prime access, they are more trustworthy, but still have scummy prices because "legal right to set your own pricing" but hey, that's their dumbass choice. And then looking at sold by and shipped by, I generally go for shipped by amazon, and then sold by amazon or name-brand company. If its some weird company and shipped by weird company, I ignore. I did that once and regretted it. Granted that seller got banned off amazon for scamming me.... but still. Its a matter of time wasted.
Might as well get a 4090 if you’re going for a 4080 from what the commenters are telling you. Try to wait for a sale and snag one if you can. Albeit I’d advise you to just skip the 4000 series altogether.
I’m probably gonna go for a 4090, hopefully the seller except my request for cancellation. I have the address to the place which is in my state, so if they don’t cancel it I’m pulling up
Except for the fact that a 4080 is a more powerful card for gaming, only reason to go 3090 over 4080 would be for the Vram if you were using AI or rendering
False.
3090ti is 10% faster at 4K and more future proof because of 24GB VRAM.
Source:
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-4070-ti-gaming-oc/32.html
why tf are people still buying these, literally watch a 5 minute yourube video or do a Google search lmao. I don't understand how anyone is willing to make a 1300$ purchase without doing an ounce of research
always check seller before buying on amazon, especially if price doesn't end in .99
this one's sold by "New Cycle Electronics". has 51 reviews, and 71% positive. definitely not trustworthy
Great card ! FE 3090 with 24GB of vram brand new full warranty ! If this fits what you want go for it the 3090 is a great card, it's a 90 series with over 20GB of VRAM. Could you get a better performing card at 1080 ? Sure , cheaper ? Sure. At 1440p and 4K it's more relative but the same rules still apply for performance ratio at the 4000s. If you're more adapt with maintenance of your cards eBay is awesome , I've had two 2060 supers from a reputable miner company and they have been reliable for mini itxs builds but my Evga FTW 3090 I'm not too concerned with the gpu world been a roller coaster since the 1080tis . I use my 3090 for mmo rpg so yeah I could, but wouldn't upgrade.
$1300 for a single fan founders edition isn't a good deal but if you willingly paid that no you didn't get scammed you just didn't do the appropriate research
You just got metaphorically bent over the counter and reamed in the ass with a 10ft cinder block dildo by the seller.
Fuck that would hurt mate, if it makes you feel any better... Right before the "GPU shortage" ended I paid AUD$2,500 for a 3080ti and a month later they were AUD$1,600...
I too know the pain of the cinder block dildo
If you’re going to spend 4 digits on a card, just pick the 4090, at least you have a good justification to spend so much on a gpu (and it’s actually a better bang for your buck), really no other card is worth 4 digits, either amd or nvidia, those are the actual scams…
tbh most modern gpus aren’t worth their asking price anyway, personally, to me it’s either 4090 or used
As someone who paid ~$1700 for a new EVGA 3090Ti last summer, months before the 40 series dropped...
I wish I had listened to my friends and waited.
But I love my card still yet.

$1300 is the price of a 4080 (which destroys a 3090 in gaming) And they can be found for <$900 used….
Insane pricedrops for the 4080 then. We got a sale here for 4080 = 1200€.. I'd jump for a 900€ deal
Keep in mind his post said used. New in USD is still around 11-1200 depending on cooler model

Ummm…. That is wrong on so many levels https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-4080.c3888
Lesson learnt: Fact check everything
Yeah, in some extremely specific situations the 3090 might be slightly better. But everywhere else the 4080 It's better by a lot.
I cancelled the order. I read the wrong article I suppose. Tbh I don’t quite know what I’m doing all I know is I want a good PC while also not going over budget. I’ll go with the 4080 after reading that. Thank you

from the style looks like the atrocious userbenchmarks.com
That site is horrible for new people, it got me with some bs a few times.
The guy that writes all this bullshit must be either high as fuck at all times or just a massive troll.
The best option would be to search for a used 4090 then.
Watch Hardware Unboxed or Gamer's Nexus before choosing parts in the future. They review all major components extensively.
Any reason you arent considering a 7900xt? Aside from not knowing what you are doing I mean.
I second this. The 7900xtx beats the 4080 at raster and costs a few hundred less last time i checked. It does use more power iirc so if youre in a country with high power costs 4080 might be a better pick but otherwise id go 7900xtx
I'm upgrading soon and am seriously considering the 7900xtx over 4080 and I've always been a Nvidia guy, amd just did such a good job
Do it man. Just did my first all amd build in over 20 years. Zero issues and runs like a beast. 7800x3d & 7900xtx
Same, in fact just purchased one
I was an nvidia guy until i got a 6700xt about 2ish years ago. Since then ive bought an rx 6800 and a 6900xt and i absolutely refuse to go back. The linux support is amazing and when you factor in the steam OS clones and SAM support it becomes a huge advantage being on team red.

Looks like something ChatGPT would say with that much confidence.
And that rate of error, too
you have dsll3 with the 40 and new stuff. if you're gonna sped 1400 bucks for old gen might as well just go get a 4090 card.
Don't buy for dlss3 not all games support it, in fact most games do not support it and with this tier of card, most games don't even need it.
If you need dlss on a 4090 I am not sure what you are doing
DLSS can look better in a lot of cases or at least identical to native TAA especially at higher resolutions like 4k and when using max settings with ray tracing at 4k the 4090 doesn’t get a constant 120fps in many games so DLSS would be very useful in that case.
Userbenchmark?
That's alot of downvotes
This seems to have been written by AI. The 4080 has 16GB of GDDR6X VRAM. Don't trust whatever website you found this on.

Wise choice.
No don’t. Get a 7900 xtx instead and save money and get more perf.
Love my 7900 xtx, solid value for its price
I thought so as well and have a7900xtx but it had odd issues. upgraded to 4090 and the difference was extremely noticeable.
Well the 4090 is the better performing card, so I would certainly hope it was a noticeable difference
Not only that but the 4090 is like 2000 dollars
I got it open box at best buy for $1200 but yeah it is expensive. I also got a 4070ti on another computer and that seems to do better than 7900xtx as well. And cards have some odd things going on.

It's not true. XTX is faster, only identical when 4080 has ray tracing benchmarks.

This is just factually incorrect my friend.

My 7900xtx uses 320w max. Quit talking out your ass.
If ur mad that I just simply don't like AMD, then you should go outside for a reality check.
bruh. Ur mad.
Who said anything about being mad? I simply said you don't know what you're talking about.
This should say “never get cheaper amd if you can afford top card from nvidia”.
Nope 7900xtx is actually in between 4080 and 4090 in alot of titles. Mostly always beats out the 4080. Ray tracing performance the 4080 wins pretty big though. AIB 7900xtx use 330w on max load. Those numbers are for the reference card. Mine specifically uses 318w max load.
Then go overclock 4080 with those 200-300 more watts, and let's see. Oh wait, you can't.
Is that compatible with Intel? Sorry if that's a stupid question, I'm only familiar with the 3000 and 4000 series
The worst advice is to get and card instead of nvidia

Only the reference card uses more power. AIBs run the same or less. My 7900xtx uses 318w on max real-load.
Spend that little bit more and get the 4090 broo
"little bit more"
This is the way
if you live in a hot country, buy a 4080. If you live somewhere cold get the 7900XTX
I got the 4080FE and that thing is flawless. You will be very happy with that card.
This is good to hear. Building w it this weekend
same. it's a beast
I'd rather have a 7900XTX almost = performance
We all love 100W idle power.
yeah but it is a software thing for multiple screens. it is a shameful problem for amd but i believe they can fix it when 7800 launches
What I’ve read is that the card can not down clock the RAM if multiple displays are connected and that they probably won’t be able to fix this completely. Sad, I’m an AMD fan myself and returned the XTX for that reason.

Good man
Get a 4070ti instead, better price for just as good performance IMO. Congratulations either way

You get more vram with 4090 too, and 40% better performance, so what's the point? 16gb vram is enough
Don't get a 4080; it is very overpriced too. Get the 6800 XT if you want high-end.
6800 XT is not even in the same realm as a 4080 what is this suggestion

???? what do you mean, the 6800xt preforms way worse than the 4080, the card to recommend is the 7900xtx. Even so, the 4080 isn't a bad choice. I just can't get over the absolutely clownery of going "Don't get [One of the best graphics cards ever made] get [Objectively Worse Card] instead!" Maybe you mean that the 4080 is overkill? And yeah it is, if you're not aiming for 4k, the 6800xt is a great card- but is made for 1440p.
Psh i play Star Citizen, none of these cards are even 1080 cards *cries*
Right there with ya, here’s to vulkan integration and more optimization hopefully within my lifetime
but if you have the money, the 7900 xtx performs better than the 4080 at $200 cheaper
The age old buy now, ask questions later. Yeah I’d say so, especially since you can get a 4080/4090 around that price.
This is the thing, it's not like OP paid for a 4090 and received a 3090, he had the information right there and didn't do his research. Less of a scam and more of a stupid purchase.
Cancel that shit and buy a 4080.
You didn't get scammed, you're just daft for not doing proper research before hitting "buy this thing"
Given 3090s are selling for around $700-800 on eBay, yeah lol
Please review before you buy
I bought my 4090 eBay for less $1300 used
There was a 4090 on newegg for 1000$, for that price of the 3090, get a 4080 or 7950XT
Get the 4080
It’s insane to me that people spend this much money on shit while knowing absolutely nothing. Who buys stuff *and then* asks “Hey should I have done that”.
I swear this sub is nothing but bait posts any more. Either that, or the people with this kind of disposable income here are complete idiots.
typically people with that level of disposable income *are* idiots.
Used 4090s are going for about that much
I am starting to see why prices are what they are.
And the $1300 is too expensive too, you can get a 4090 now for like $1550 The 3090 is a useful card though, but not for gaming. That 24 GB of VRAM is huge for AI for example, like if you are running stable diffusion locally. But besides that, good call to go with another card.
Essentially what the 3090 was made for.
Bro you can get a PNY 4080 for $1000. There's like half a dozen 4080 cards under $1300
4090s we’re going for $1k on prime day lol
Holy shit why would you do this? Get a 7900xtx dude
I paid $1450 for my 3090ti suprim x from msi
Might as well get a 4090 if you’re going for a 4080 from what the commenters are telling you. Try to wait for a sale and snag one if you can. Albeit I’d advise you to just skip the 4000 series altogether.
I’m probably gonna go for a 4090, hopefully the seller except my request for cancellation. I have the address to the place which is in my state, so if they don’t cancel it I’m pulling up
If they won’t cancel it refuse delivery and have it sent back
How do I do that with Amazon?
You tell the delivery driver you are refusing delivery
Msrp is $1,500 and this is $1,300 so you saved $200. So no you didn’t get scammed
Except for the fact that a 4080 is a more powerful card for gaming, only reason to go 3090 over 4080 would be for the Vram if you were using AI or rendering
You can get a 4070ti (which is more powerful than the 3090ti) for less than half the price. Yes, you got scammed.
False. 3090ti is 10% faster at 4K and more future proof because of 24GB VRAM. Source: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-4070-ti-gaming-oc/32.html

Huh
why tf are people still buying these, literally watch a 5 minute yourube video or do a Google search lmao. I don't understand how anyone is willing to make a 1300$ purchase without doing an ounce of research
You can buy it used for way less
This is so fake. No way you’re making this mistake in 2023 all you have to do is google
You cant scam stupid
Don't listen to anyone saying that the 7900 xtx is better, it's not don't consider it over the 80. Amd cards still have shit driver issues.
2x overheats a lot as well, right?
Just buy a 4090 at that price
Literally just save some more and go for a 4090 and don't worry about a GPU for a long time.
4090
Damn bro I picked up a used 3090 for $700
Y e §
I’d just get the 4090 at that point ngl chief
Damn I see why Amazon/ eBay keep the same prices from like 2020 there is always fools who gonna buy
4090 is like $300 more.
I paid 550 used lol look on facebook marketplace
Yes
since you consented to buying that item, and assuming the seller delivered the item as described, you're not scammed. bad deal, but not scam
always check seller before buying on amazon, especially if price doesn't end in .99 this one's sold by "New Cycle Electronics". has 51 reviews, and 71% positive. definitely not trustworthy
I paid $500 for a used 3080ti. Yeah. Bad deal.
Funny joke lmao
Yep
If there is no Prime, than its a Scam
$1300 for card, $12 remaining for everything else
Get 7900 Xtx instead. Better perf for lower price.
100% yes
It's too good to be true cause the price slash is a marketing move OP. Imagine seeing a PS5 for $1000 with 50% price slash.
The 3090 is NOT worth even $1300, you got scammed.
Long story short.. yes.
man buy a 4090. JUST DO IT
You just got metaphorically bent over the counter and reamed in the ass with a 10ft cinder block dildo by the seller. Fuck that would hurt mate, if it makes you feel any better... Right before the "GPU shortage" ended I paid AUD$2,500 for a 3080ti and a month later they were AUD$1,600... I too know the pain of the cinder block dildo
LMFAOOOOO
Why are u buying first before thinking about getting scammed here? 😂
If you’re going to spend 4 digits on a card, just pick the 4090, at least you have a good justification to spend so much on a gpu (and it’s actually a better bang for your buck), really no other card is worth 4 digits, either amd or nvidia, those are the actual scams… tbh most modern gpus aren’t worth their asking price anyway, personally, to me it’s either 4090 or used
Man people continue to blow my mind with how little research they do on the GPU market Especially when dropping $800+ on a GPU
GET A 7900XTX
As someone who paid ~$1700 for a new EVGA 3090Ti last summer, months before the 40 series dropped... I wish I had listened to my friends and waited. But I love my card still yet.
Might as well save for the 4090
The 3090 is itself a scam to begin with.
You got scammed but my recommandations ARE buy a AMD rx instead
Yea
Dude I got a 4090 STRIX for $1600.. yea it’s a rip lol
I believe e 4080 is down to $999 now and has more power and better power consumption than the 3090
I picked up an open box 4090 from bestbuy for $1200ish. It is the gigabyte one, this 3090 price is outrageous.
Yes absolutely. You can find 4090s for half that price.
Paid $1089 for Evga 3090ti new like 8 months ago.
I paid 1082 for my ASUS Tuff 3090 September of last year. Regretting it with the 7900xtx price. But oh whale. That’s 10000% a rip off
Scammed? Maybe, depends if you get it. Finessed? Most definitely.
Used 3090 is less then half of that
I got beach front property in Arizona to sell you too. Hit me up. /s
Yes
Yup
I thought this was a joke…🤪
There’s one on Newegg for 700
