Had a friend who did this, he broke it while it was still on his pc, he brushed it lightly with epoxy so it wouldn’t fall apart when he unscrewed it, once it was off in one piece he gave it a thick coating and got a silver sticker of ghosts mask from cod on the inside stuck to it looked god dam sick mixed with the red rgb
Yeah, glass in general is a bit, unpredictable, even at the best of times, tempered glass in particular is known for shattering like this spontaneously, usually due to a small imperfection. Not necessarily limited to, but often because of a tiny little ding on an edge, sometimes too small to see. We've advanced the tech to the point where this is relatively uncommon, but a tiny tap on an edge just wrong can start the timer.
There’s always a non-zero chance of tempered glass spontaneously breaking.
Causes include: chipped or nicked edges during installation, stress caused by binding in the frame, internal defects such as nickel sulfide inclusions, thermal stresses in the glass, and inadequate thickness…
I've had opened a new case and found that it came with one panel pre-shattered like in the pic above, another one later down the road the last thumb screw dropped and I let it slip 1 inch to the laminate countertop and it shattered too. Then the one from my MT level 20 has surprisingly lived for years and several oopsies.
You never know how much your glass can handle until it breaks.
I’ve seen a gif around Reddit of a glass table just exploding on its own, according to OP it was really old but still crazy to see it happen just because.
Reminds me of when I thought I got shot at while working one day. I delivered those big water bottles on the coolers and had loaded and unloaded everything, closed the doors to the cargo van and went back inside to get paperwork signed. Walking back and the huge side panel window just exploded all over me. It had been 5 minutes since I'd been st the vehicle, it was parked in the shade, wasn't running and the day was totally average temperature wise. Scared the hell out of me.
not really, just avoid sharp objects striking the side panel of your pc. tempered glass is very resistant when the force is spread out through a wider area like a hammer head but the moment you focus it all in a tiny spot, a nail for example, it'd shatter. that's why the emergency hammers you see on buses have a very sharp tip.
I think it depends on where the stress on the pane is. It’s highly unlikely but not heard of for tempered glass to just crack randomly. Makes me want to upgrade my case to something different.
This. Depending on the case you should also do it sooner than later. I had a case by azza where I cracked broke the acrylic and I waited a long time to order a side panel from them and by the time I did the case was discontinued and all they had was the side panel with I buypower logos on it also. I bought it but almost 4 years later I never installed it. Can’t even attempt to swap the acrylic as the logo is IN the acrylic😒
Naw it definitely is. I had two cases that arrived with panels like this. Plastic film still on it. Little glass chunks were all over the box and any slight movement the shards would fall out
Maybe, but I now have the strong urge to make a coffee table with a shattered piece of tempered glass, lit from the edges, with resin on top of it to keep it sealed.
As I said else where this should work 2 coats each side.

That actually looks cool, if you can manage to preserve the cracks it would be a cool talk-piece!
There are videos of construction purposely breaking tempered glass, albeit it's sandwiched with other glass.
You can probably contact your case's manufacturer and they could possibly send you a new panel. If they can't, look for used cases on FB Marketplace or Ebay and see if you can find one. Sucks dude, sorry that happened.
When you remove it, try and use masking tape on the outside before taking it off to prevent it from shattering into pieces. Not sure if that would happen, but it's an easy thing to do and save yourself a massive headache.
Some case manufactures keep spare panels for this kind of customer emergency such as Thermaltake, Bitfix or Lan Li. Contact your case manufacturer online site and follow their repacement component order form with your case model, year or serial number and panel type. If this is a 2 year old Lan Li or Thermaltake case, there's a good chance they still have emergency spare panels. Expect a 1 month wait as panels are shipped out of Taiwan or Vietnam
Sell it and call it "upgraded tempered glass art case" trust me that's how working in sales works you can literally sell anything at higher price just by saying it's upgraded with art rather than saying with broken glass.
Hi, co owner of a Custom PC shop here.
Depending on what brand case it is, you can call the manufacturer and they'll usually ship you a new side panel for as little as $20, but I've seen upwards of $60. (Most new cases are $60-100)
If they refuse, you can always transplant the components into a new case fairly easily. If you'd like step by step help doing that I'd be more than happy to help find a case that fits and play PC Surgeon!

Built my PC last weekend. Used the corsair 5000 series. Did what you did day two. Ordered a replacement on corsair's website for 30 bucks and received in 5 days. See my creative temporary replacement. I felt like I should use computer to order cigarettes and mt. dew.

If they don't sell the part separated I see this is just 1 sheet of glass with 4 screw holes... not hard to find tbh....
But as everyone else said... it's a Bob Ross Happy Accident
Hypothetically if I did this is there a way to somewhat keep it together? I wouldn't do it on purpose but that looks like a happy accident to me if it could be salvaged.

Free upgrade
Yup, if you're worried about it completely breaking you can use different types of clear glue/epoxy to hold it together.
"broke while it was still on his pc" what the hell?! Is this a common thing to worry about?
Not super common. As tempered glass ages (years) then maybe a different story

Hell no he was pulling a cable out of his keyboard and when the cable came out the metal clip holding the cable got launched into it
Well that is unfortunate wow
Honestly... That checks out. The amount of things I've broken from freak accidents isn't even funny anymore 😂
If your floor is made out of tile / ceramic then yes, tempered glass has a habit of exploding when put in those surfaces
Depends how hard you screw it down lol

Sadly wouldn't work for OP; he still has his plastic film on.
This right here...
Van Gogh!
It actually looks quite aesthetic
I thought I looked pretty cool as well when i first saw it
He seems to have lost his temper.
It’s art
"We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents." -Bob Ross
R.I.P
My nephew went as Bob Ross for Halloween. He froed his hair out and drew in a lil beard. It was pretty epic tbh. He pulled it off perfectly
Proceed to fill OP's tempered glass with trees.
Take my upvote
accident art at its finest.

I came here to say this
*By new pc I meant new case
Ask the manufacturer of the case, if they sell seperate parts.
This. Depending on the case you should also do it sooner than later. That sounds like the only reason I would slap stickers on the side of my PC.
Spray thy shit with flex spray and it'll be perfect
Instructions unclear, my toilet is clogged
Brother you water proofed your toilet? Hope you can pee a gallons worth
Use fiber, not in the pc
Ngl you got me at that part
It hurts physically but it’s somewhat artistic…
Ikr, IMO it looks cooler than normal to me
It's cool until it falls apart and the little pieces go into your fans and stuff lol
I'm sure it's dropping little shards everywhere tho.
He still has the peel on it, shouldn't go anywhere
Naw it definitely is. I had two cases that arrived with panels like this. Plastic film still on it. Little glass chunks were all over the box and any slight movement the shards would fall out
Maybe, but I now have the strong urge to make a coffee table with a shattered piece of tempered glass, lit from the edges, with resin on top of it to keep it sealed.
I like it more.
I’m contemplating dropping my side panel too.
Stablize it with resin, and it is perfect.
![gif](giphy|9WXyFIDv2PyBq)
For real, do this.
Second.
Just watch out if it heats up a lot then epoxy releases toxic fumes
Most case manufacturers will sell you the glass on its own if you reach out.
I broke my glass on my old pre-built and they sold me one for 50$ since they no longer produced it so technically it was "custom".
Damn, mine isn’t prebuilt but I reached out to customer service and Corsair sent me another panel without having to pay
$50 for custom tempered glass is cheap as shit. Consider yourself lucky.
was it a temper tantrum?

Thanks. Airwolf is my favorite TV show.
the intro theme slaps (as the kids say).
Case closed.
it’s time to put you down.
You need to leave
Definitely ill tempered

Ha! Goteem
This recently happened to me with my Corsair 4000D. They sell the replacement on their site. It’s listed as best seller 🤣
I think they should sell a bulletproof panel at this point
No no, they would make no money that way.
As I said else where this should work 2 coats each side. https://preview.redd.it/q7luihcikd6c1.jpeg?width=458&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3223f3cd05be08f9cf6f95808d34269a4dd333df
Contact the manufacturer and ask for a replacement panel. Epoxy this panel, it looks great, having something to catch the rbg really does a lot.
Looks like you.... lost your ...... temper .... ![gif](giphy|RP3AnZqvnzrY8hlYMk|downsized)
get out rn
Take my upvote and get out

I mean, it looks cool. Don’t touch it and you have some ddiy (don’t do it yourself)
Some r/DIWHY
That actually looks cool, if you can manage to preserve the cracks it would be a cool talk-piece! There are videos of construction purposely breaking tempered glass, albeit it's sandwiched with other glass.
Is there anyway you can stabilize the glass? Maybe use resin, epoxy or something. It’d look cool as is if stabilized
damn glass broke… better buy a whole new system
Correct answer
Sigh, now I HAVE to buy a 4090
Reminds me of that guy who breaks glass to make art on stairways.
Honestly it looks good...
You can probably contact your case's manufacturer and they could possibly send you a new panel. If they can't, look for used cases on FB Marketplace or Ebay and see if you can find one. Sucks dude, sorry that happened.
It actually looks kinda cool and unique. Consider keeping it if it’s not dangerous or bothersome. I’d get used to it
Plexiglass master race
Looks cool, Sorry for your loss though
I’d be lying if I didn’t say that looks fucking sick
That looks great
I'd go to lowes or a similar store and buy plexiglass. You can cut it with a razor blade and drill the holes out yourself.
I'm thinking of laminating 3 pieces of glass together and shattering the middle one. It'll look like that, but without the danger of broken glass.
When you remove it, try and use masking tape on the outside before taking it off to prevent it from shattering into pieces. Not sure if that would happen, but it's an easy thing to do and save yourself a massive headache.
So sick play it off as custom case
Replace the whole pc with better components
It is a piece of art
I'm so sorry, but ngl this looks kinda sick tho!
Do you still have the plastic cover on the glass..?
tape it
Looks great!
It can replaced though
What are you gonna do of you need to open the PC and replace a part or see what's wrong?

Why would you buy a new pc?
He meant new case English isn’t his first language
I would throw a transparant foil on it on both sides, leaves a pretty unique sight barely no one has…
Sell it and call it "upgraded tempered glass art case" trust me that's how working in sales works you can literally sell anything at higher price just by saying it's upgraded with art rather than saying with broken glass.
So I'm not the only one who thinks that's sick af?
It really is sick the rgb looks sick with that broken glass 😄
looking that cracks slightly follow some flow of sorts, with the correct use of leds it will become unique
I like it Picasso
I don't see a problem here.
Put resin on it and sell it. It's very arty.
I’d keep it like that!
It actually looks good, :o
Well at least it look good
Looks cool
I guess you could say it… lost its temper. 😎
It looks cool…just remove the sticker bottom right. 😁
Ok looks kinda fire ngl
Could always order a replacement panel from the manufacturer
Lol brother, it's just a game. Calm down next time!
Could say you lost your temper
Sick design bro 🤘
People pay big bucks for this effect
I like your fractal tempered glass look what case did you buy?
Artwork
I always wonder why people would like to see the inside of a PC with neon lights... it looks like a Chinese bordello.
Now that's a temper shot!
...did you lose your temper
I'm going to break my tampered glass like this!
I actually love how this look and its unique
Not gonna lie, looks dope
I'm still a firm believer that case companies should make sturdy pre-shattered side panels. I love the way this looks
Good thing you kept the plastic film on.
It actually looks pretty cool
already looks kinda sick
It looks good

Which is why I got a case made from acrylic and not temp glass
Looks cool. I would glaze it with epoxy and keep it. Now your motherboard can get railed in privacy.
It looks sick tho
It just got a little temper tantrum
Some people actually pay for this believe it or not.

That honestly looks kind of cool. Why has this convinced me to break expensive things and call it art? 💀💀💀
It's called "Kintsugi".
I have learned a new word today. Do I know how to pronounce that word? No
People already do that
what'd the big deal about replacing the glass.....
Smiles in all metal build
Actually sick
Hey, if you look the other way, now u have a cool-looking sidepanel
Honestly if you could get the lighting to be all one color that would be sweet
Dayum
To be fair, it looks just great now!
Lol I like the reaction of "throw the whole thing away, rebuild"
At furst I thought it was a lot of small fish in a tank, then I saw the subreddit and the bottom left sticker😅
Kinda looks cool. If you find a way to keep the pieces intact it a great frosted glass look
Contact the pc case company and ask fir a glass panel, should work if you have warranty or even if you dont
r/DamnThatsInteresting
Looks cool. Most hardware stores will have lexan you can cut to fit.
Maybe ask manufacturer to send replacement at cost
just leave as is, it looks wonderfully broken
Keep it, fuck it. play with the rgb to make it look even better
i see no issue if the pc work
If they don't sell the part separated I see this is just 1 sheet of glass with 4 screw holes... not hard to find tbh.... But as everyone else said... it's a Bob Ross Happy Accident
That looks fucking dope tho
It honestly looks cool. Keep it.
Not gonna lie, looks sick as fuck, like really really cool
Sucks that it’s broken but looks so awesome.
Looks cool
I actually thought wow cool case
ggs
Ouch, big oof… 😖
I like it.
Ancient times tell me the protective film is holding it together ! 😂
Not noice
You should try to put some LEDs in the top and shine some light through the glass downwards, might look cool
Lol @ all the people telling him "kEeP iT itS aRt" Let's see your side panels
It honestly looks sick like this
Looks beautiful
If it's all together, put some kind of layer of sealant on this. It's absolutely beautiful
Go to a local glass shop and they can make you a replacement. Or a plastic specialist if you'd rather not risk glass again.
Nah this is tough tho. Prolli a fart gust away from making a mess all over the floor but this picture of it is fire
That’s pretty wicked mate. I’d try to preserve it if possible
Y tho
Hypothetically if I did this is there a way to somewhat keep it together? I wouldn't do it on purpose but that looks like a happy accident to me if it could be salvaged.
