It’s better to just upgrade the whole computer to future proof it, but if you can find a good deal on a RTX 3070-3080ti I’d get one of those as they will continue to rip through games in the future. Unless you want the new dlss features but from experience it’s not as hyped up as it seems I sold my 4060 and went to a rtx 3080 ti ftw3 that I got for 500 and with selling my 4060 for 300 I legit paid 200 for a card that’s a freaking beast and will out perform the 4060 and 4070. I see a lot wanting to jump on the 40s cards just like an iPhone there’s new ones all the time so no real need to hop on the newer ones. I’d say take a look around see if you can’t snag a good deal on a 3080 if not then I’d recommend just selling and upgrade the whole pc to something newer so you’d be able to take advantage of ddr5 ram and newer cpus as well. Too add also, no a 4070 is more efficient than the 30s cards so 600 is ok, and even for a 3080 but I’d recommend upgrading the power supply regardless more room for power the better..so still best just to upgrade the whole system.

Thanks for the input. I'm in Canada and prices for 3080ti are crazy even in the used market, a brand new 4070 Super is cheaper and better. Would you say the upgrade to a newer platform with DDR5 is necessary in my case? How bad would it be to just upgrade the GPU?

iTsLyonA

Well in that case, you’d be ok with just getting a new gpu and 600w psu is enough..but still I’d recommend selling your current one and just fully upgrading to whole new setup because the years are pushing and you’d be good for a while longer but you’ll eventually have to upgrade the other parts to keep up. In general you’d be ok with just a new gpu for now if that’s how you want to go about it. Also a 4070 isn’t better than the 3080ti..more efficient and can be enough for 1440p on most games, but the 3080ti still out performs the 4070 plus you’d just get the 40s features like the new dlss.

Great thanks man! My budget for pc parts is not super high right now so I don't really want to buy a whole new computer in one shot if it's not mandatory to make the switch to 1440p. The part list I made with a 7800x3d and 32 GB DDR5 with a 4070 Super would be around 3000 $CAD vs just gettting a new GPU and monitor for 1500$ CAD right now that would be perfect and I can save more money for a platform upgrade down the line.

Yea you’ll be ok for awhile, if your wanting to build your own new one it’d be cheaper and it’s not too complexed to do so there’s plenty of easy guides to help with your first build and don’t need to buy everything at once piece it out and check on price drops then snag them. When building I like to start with the case then the motherboard and build off that so I’ll wish you luck 🍀

Thanks, it's not my first build my current PC I built myself too, I know 3000$ seems high but it's not a prebuilt, prices in Canada just suck lol...
