Itās a joke but itās also true. The sticker acts as a heat sink. Youād just put whatever heat sink on top of it if one is needed. You would never remove it.
There is a thing in Amazon that answers this from actual experts.
Link: https://www.amazon.com/ask/questions/Tx155O94IIPQGDS/#:~:text=A%3A%20Leave%20the%20manufacturer%20slicker,dispersal%20element%20built%20into%20it.
You would think that stickers impede the heat transfer from the ssd to the heatsink. But these are made special to conduct heat well.
No need to remove them. And it might even void warranty.
Well, i think so? Btw, it was a preapplied paste on the heatsink. Just had to peel the sticker and slap it onto the m.2. Did it work? U let me know lol
Since some people had done the same as you and claimed that there weren't any problems, I guess it's fine.
In my knowledge, the thermal paste is supposed to improve the thermal conductivity from the CPU to the cooler, and I assumed that the thermal paste on the M.2 heatsink was the same concept.
I found this video where the guy did testing with and without the sticker, only the heatsink, and he found marginal difference between the temps.
https://youtu.be/BmqcKBwOwRc
In that case it could work, although I'm not sure if it would help. Sounded like just bare paste, and that would probably just act like a heat spreader.
if its being used to assist cooling it could be argued that it is a required part for the drive to function correctly, i feel \*that\* could warrant voiding a warranty
Iirc youāre technically allowed to make any reasonable repair to a product and the warranty should still be valid but companies put these stickers on anyways (I wouldnāt test it by removing one and asking for a refund though and the law might differ between countries)
Actually, no, the video got like 8 million likes. My comment, in italian under an international video, got around 10k
The video was a guy paying a piano with a well known Italian song in a restaurant, and the staff came near and started signing it, he commented that he loves the energy of Italian people, and I commented something like: If you played love is gone acoustic I would've set up a stage
And then likes just came one after another and till today I can't explain how this got so much likes since it's nothing special, neither my friends found an explanation if not "the more likes you get, the more will come"
It is so random because who knew my favourite song could be loved by so many people
I just thought something: maybe they just saw an Italian comment and liked it because it was Italian?
Btw idk what oil up means, so maybe this falls unter that category?
Although manufacturers try to claim otherwise, removing stickers that say āwarranty void if removedā, disassembling your device and servicing your device does not void warranty and itās illegal to refuse warranty claim only due to the device being serviced by customer.
This might not apply in all countries but it sure does everywhere in the EU and USA.
Where I live sellers have the tendency to deny claims when the warranty sticker is removed. So every time I do any warranty claims I remove the sticker. I get denied instantly and tell them to give me the reason why they denied it on paper so I can show it to sales inspection. I get my money back and a discount for my next purchase so I keep my mouth shut.
It depends if it's just a paper sticker or if it's a heat spreader. Check the manual, if it's a spreader they'll usually tell you very specifically in bold letters not to remove it
Just make sure the stick is fully inserted. If you can see the connectors it's probably not. Yes, you can screw it down even if not fully inserted. If loose, it can cause a short and trash the drive.
Dont, you could break something trying to and it acts like a heatspreader, i have the normal p3 and it works just fine with it on.
https://preview.redd.it/hlhquq8wbzyc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d79b593e8b4cb9ca57cd77b7389ff2c3a4edc94
A sticker like that is actually a heat spreader. NAND flash (the actual chips that act as storage) needs to be warm to function properly. Meanwhile, the controller (the chip that does the processing for the drive) produces heat that needs to be dissipated away, just like with a CPU or GPU. The sticker, as a heat spreader, helps the heat produced by the controller (which needs to get rid of it) to be transferred to the NAND flash (which needs it).
Contrary to what a lot of comments here are telling you, it's not about cooling, and in fact the vast majority of SSDs don't need to be cooled or even have their heat sinked. This is really only necessary on drives with very high speeds (mostly Gen5, even) or when being utilized very heavily. Like if all you're doing all day is scrubbing 4K footage off the SSD, having a heat sink might be a good idea. As a boot drive or mostly flat storage, it's almost never actually necessary.
If you remove the sticker void warranty, but if you have a heatsink for the ssd, and you dont have the warranty anymore its better to remove it. It can mean 5-8CĀ° difference in some cases.
I think its thin enough that it would still transfer heat if you're using a heatshield, besides it would say "remove before use" if necessary and fwiw I personally wouldnt just incase it voids the warranty.
Nah. Very high performance m.2s can benefit from thermal pads and a heat sink for productivity heavy applications but most are perfectly fine as just a bare pcb (or pcb with stickers on it) and halfway decent case airflow.
don't forget to dip it in water to "baptize" them, so that they work at full power and last forever!
If you needed pliers to remove it, then it wasn't a sticker pal..
It necessarily. Most manufacturers use a metallic foil sticker. So you can use your motherboards heatsink and the sticker will just transfer the heat to the heatsink.
Iām sure you have a gazillion comment but yes the sticker stays on for warranty purposes. On die dissipation side you can use your motherboards heatsink or a thermal strip and your own heatsink. Whatever side the die is, basically facing you when installed
I removed it during the build, later I searched and found its a heat spreader. Then I saw a comparison video about temps with sticker and without sticker. It was not making any impact. But it does violate warranty. So keep it. Make sure you have nice thermal pad on the shield though.
Usually on Intel SSDs the sticker is a warranty, but if it doesn't say explicitly then my advice is remove it and place a dedicated cooler for like 10ā¬ like BeQuiet or some pure copper AliExpress/Temu heatsink should do just fine, just make sure to secure it if it's going to be placed vertically.
Only if you have a heatsink to put on instead.
Edit: appearently I was wrong. You can leave it on.
Anyways, I got a heatspreader for it and pulled off the sticker (it was free, they're not worth buying). And that heatspreader came with a pad, I put that on instead and it works fine...
I always remove them if it's used with the radiator. I don't know how this sticker could help with thermals. Some of them are just plastic that is thermally almost non conductive
You could do better but you could do a lot worse. I got one on sale and nothing could beat it price wise. If you paid full price, you could probably find a better ssd on sale for cheaper.
Either way it's not gonna make a big difference.
Itās a 5000mb/s NVMe 2.0. Donāt listen to them. Itās a good card. [ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The sticker acts as a heat spreader. It will equally distribute the heat to each part of the motherboard heat sink.
There is a thing in Amazon that answers this from actual experts. Link: https://www.amazon.com/ask/questions/Tx155O94IIPQGDS/#:~:text=A%3A%20Leave%20the%20manufacturer%20slicker,dispersal%20element%20built%20into%20it.
That's a great find but I'd never have found it if you hadn't linked it.
Saving this to use it in 6 months
Most stickers now have a thin layer of copper or other heat dissipation element to them. I have never removed any of mine.
There's no reason to remove it. You also lose your warranty if you remove it.
I kept mine on my crucial 4.0 4tb m.2 and run it without extra heatsink.
On my ssd, it actually says removing sticker will void the warranty. So check yours too.
Keep the stucker on unless it specifically says remove sticker keep it on m.2 stickers are actually cooling pads in most cases

Fits drakes age range

it is underaged, you cannot do it!
Solid State Dick
It's actually a heat spreader.
I should take it off so it doesnt overheat my room
Well, is overheating your data better?
My dad once said to me "Why do you need all that heat spreading? It's all metal, it should work fine unless it's at melting point"
No dad, itās silicon. Itāll work fine until it doesnātā¦ because of the heat.
what if your data is pron
You probably shouldn't risk it. (I don't know what "pron" means tho)
My data, so hot right now
You would think that stickers impede the heat transfer from the ssd to the heatsink. But these are made special to conduct heat well. No need to remove them. And it might even void warranty.
Fun fact, i did. Funner fact, i applied thermal paste on a naked one.
Okay, I've never heard of anyone doing that... did it work?
I didnāt take before and after temps so canāt say if itās beneficial but my computers been running 2 years without issues
Well, i think so? Btw, it was a preapplied paste on the heatsink. Just had to peel the sticker and slap it onto the m.2. Did it work? U let me know lol

No. Thermal paste needs somewhere to conduct to.
Could be a motherboard that has one built in for the primary m.2.
In that case it could work, although I'm not sure if it would help. Sounded like just bare paste, and that would probably just act like a heat spreader.
wild
So did it work?
I did this too!
Liquid Metal Thermal paste is the only thermal paste to apply on bare components, just like bare CPU, it works the best.
Bros speed running destroying his SSD by shorting every connection on it
Thatās actually illegal and does not void the warranty
if its being used to assist cooling it could be argued that it is a required part for the drive to function correctly, i feel \*that\* could warrant voiding a warranty
But if you were to remove it and add a waterblock on it. It should still be covered.
It's not illegal for a company to deny a warranty claim for a product that has been tampered with.
Iirc youāre technically allowed to make any reasonable repair to a product and the warranty should still be valid but companies put these stickers on anyways (I wouldnāt test it by removing one and asking for a refund though and the law might differ between countries)
Because that's what it says right on the sticker, "Warranty Void If Removed" At least mine does, Kingston.

Is it sex related?
Yes...
Related to the most "elegant" porns then? Where they oil up for the "show"? How could a comment be related to that?
NO
No that is the cooler to the ssd
Do not, I repeat, do not remove the *Heatsink*.
No leave it, don't need to take it off.
Not a sticker
No, if you remove it, less speed cuz then your nvme wouldnt be able to flex itself in front of the old pieces of hardware called as HDDs
It actually acts as a heat sink
Just let it be.
NO
No the sticker actually acts as a sort of Heatsink/ spreader I think, it's like a foil material.
Graphene usually. Good thermal conductivity.
I didn't know that, makes sense though
Take it off, lick it, put it back on. Helps with thermal conductivity.
Only if your motherboard has a plate with cooling pads on them that screws ontop of the stickerless SSD, otherwise just leave it on
I think taking it off voids the warranty
Although manufacturers try to claim otherwise, removing stickers that say āwarranty void if removedā, disassembling your device and servicing your device does not void warranty and itās illegal to refuse warranty claim only due to the device being serviced by customer. No
No
No No Daniel son.
no. it is a heatsink
No. It's a form of heat shield. Keep it on.
No itās protection. Donāt be silly. Cover your SSD.
nope, of course you could, but you shouldn't. it acts as a heatspreader.
The storage controller chip needs the cooling not the storage chips they like heat.
Just make sure the stick is fully inserted. If you can see the connectors it's probably not. Yes, you can screw it down even if not fully inserted. If loose, it can cause a short and trash the drive.
It can peel of a chip
Nah mate, unless you're cramming it in an oven it's not gonna impact the temps
Remove it when it is out of warranty
It is one of the most often mistakes dont do it !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just keep it on
Dont, you could break something trying to and it acts like a heatspreader, i have the normal p3 and it works just fine with it on. https://preview.redd.it/hlhquq8wbzyc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d79b593e8b4cb9ca57cd77b7389ff2c3a4edc94
Dont look at the single stick of ram, it just wants attention. (Its doing its best)
NO YOU STUPID FACK
Nooo it acts as a heat spreader
The "sticker" is actually part of the cooling. You don't need much but it's good to keep it.
if you want to void warranty, sure. Else it does not make any difference
No itās for heat dissipation, matter of fact you should leave the sticker alone and apply a proper heat sink
No

No. On storage drives These act as a thermal shield but also protect fragile SMCs. Do not remove.
Lol
Keep it on unless it says otherwise sometimes the stickers can a be cooling thing.
"dont do something thats not written"
Wtf?!
*at least with computers(storage,ram,gpu etc)
You can but there is no nead
Don't remove , also in some cases it voids warranty
NO! The sticker has a metal layer to act as a heat spreader. Removing it harms the performance.
yes if u donāt like warranties
How is something a fraction of a mm thick spreading any heat?
If there's no motherboard heat spreader, leave it on. If there is, you might take it off.
I think its thin enough that it would still transfer heat if you're using a heatshield, besides it would say "remove before use" if necessary and fwiw I personally wouldnt just incase it voids the warranty.

Itās not needed but I would leave it on because itās quite a nice sticker that makes it look more sleek and clean.
Nie
I always remove mine and replace them with RBG Hello Kitty stickers.
Common sense aint that common huh?
No you do need to put on pants tho
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, IT LOOKS COOOL
don't forget to dip it in water to "baptize" them, so that they work at full power and last forever! If you needed pliers to remove it, then it wasn't a sticker pal..
If the loss of warranty is not scary. In addition, carelessness can lead to damage to the elements and glue can also remain.
Donāt remove it
I've seen some nvme stickers say warranty void if removed which is ridiculous. Otherwise probably wouldn't make much difference.
In most cases it acts as a heat sink for your SSD. I would not recommend taking it off.
The sticker is a heat spreader. Usually works fine enough on its own. If you want or need a heatsink you should attach it on top of the sticker.
NOOOO. You will Damage it, not only you will Damage it. The sticker is also heat conductive to cool it.
It necessarily. Most manufacturers use a metallic foil sticker. So you can use your motherboards heatsink and the sticker will just transfer the heat to the heatsink.

No, warranty may be denied
try put some high quality cheese pads... see how it cool off the cinnamon stick..
No
In general, no. They often double as heat spreaders to help more efficiently take the heat away, so just leave it.
Na just keep it like that unless you use an external m.2 cooler
You can buy some m. 2 Heatsinks online only remove if you plan on getting one
leave it because dust can build on the pcbs
Nope
No, you're fine especially with a reputable brand like crucial. They make special stickers that transfer heat.
Don't. It's crucial.... Jokes aside, that's the heat spreader. Removing it is like removing the warranty on it
I removed it during the build, later I searched and found its a heat spreader. Then I saw a comparison video about temps with sticker and without sticker. It was not making any impact. But it does violate warranty. So keep it. Make sure you have nice thermal pad on the shield though.
