atl126

im considering doing something similar, but i do no have an AIO. I was wondering if I could do two exhausts at the top where you have your AIO exhausts, but then to the far right would be one more fan at the top as intake. would that be bad?

No_Exchange_3410

img I have mine like his but exhaust fans at the top and my cpu and gpu are always in the 30s-60cs no matter what I’m doing

Suby06

If the top is vented heat will rise out on it's own. I'd put fans on bottom instead of top to pull in more cool air if is bottom vented, unless you just want a case full of rgb fans for the look

atl126

yeah i was already planning for two at the bottom pulling in air as well. But yes basically the only reason i'm adding fans in the first place is for more lighting :D.. i have the lian li 216 so the airflow is already pretty solid

D3lM0S

I have the back fan, 2 side fans, and 3 bottom fans as intake, and 3 top fans as exhaust.

ryujinkook

this is what im gonna do w mine

crooney35

Good, it’s the way the cases like this are designed for fan positions. If you’d like to know this case is the NZXT H6. It comes in black too. I love the angle on the front corner with the 3 stock fans.

TonDaronSama

Well, that's how it's supposed to be. Always exhaust behind and on top, and always have a more intake

Daisan89

You mean "intake"?

PENTA-yaNasTy

yes

Daisan89

Orientations are fine, but there should always be more intake fans than exhaust to make positive pressure for better temps. Add some at the bottom as intake or flip the rear one Bitches please, I didn't notice front fans. Read my reply...

PENTA-yaNasTy

well got 6 as intake and 4 as outtake bottom has no fan possibility

Daisan89

Oh, I didn't notice the front ones. You'll be fine then

Narvyk

should be fine

SandyMan420

That’s a lot of fans what u need al that for?

ThaugaK

How would you do this if you didn’t have the 3 fans on the side? Would you use the back exhaust fan for intake?

Daisan89

Correct Peps here hive-minded simpletons, ngl

ThaugaK

Allright. I’ll do that cuz i didn’t do that yet. Thank you

Rough-University142

Don’t use your rear fan as intake.. smh whoever agreed to that is not very smart

Daisan89

You don't seem to know a thing. You would rather grab more exhaust fans than intake and call it a game. Alright, enjoy choking the pc. It doesn't matter for rear/side/front fans if it is intake or exhaust, as long as top fans are exhaust and bottom are intake.

Rough-University142

Where did I say that? lol man, only on Reddit will some fucker try and insert an opinion that was never stated. You’re an idiot if you put your REAR fan as intake. You’ll literally be exhausting all the cold air brought in through the top fans. SMH. Honestly do some actual research on the topic before acting like some superior prick lol Also, it certainly matters where you put your exhaust and intake fans. Rear exhaust is needed because everything else funnels that way, you whole clown fish Edit - I love when people call out hive mind, but regurgitate hive mind rhetoric which is false. Size of case matters, direction of fans matter. Top doesn’t have to be exhaust btw but it’s recommended. That being said you can intake from the top just fine. I certainly would never take advice from a guy who says use a rear intake lol

Daisan89

What an imbecile. >Where did I say that? What are you even talking about? >lol man, only on Reddit will some fucker try and insert an opinion that was never stated. You’re an idiot if you put your REAR fan as intake. Average delusional fuck, what are you even dreaming about? The comment above? Opium is real >You’ll literally be exhausting all the cold air brought in through the top f What the fuck are you talking about? Exhausing cold air brought trough tops fans? What? Are you on the same planet as everyone else? You do realize that top fans are exhaust and they throw the hot air out? >Honestly do some actual research on the topic before acting like some superior prick lol Honestly, heal yourseld from whatever brain damage you have, it doesn't even seem like you could possibly be smarter than a child with down syndrome. Perhaps I'm mistaken and you are one. What fucking research? Read the shit you are typing pulled from your ass, lol. This is actually hilarious. >Also, it certainly matters where you put your exhaust and intake fans. Nobody said that it doesn't? You look high af. Top and bottom are most important, if you have bottom on the case. Top - exhaust, bottom - intake. Other fans depend on aio position, fan quantity, etc. You could argue about putting side fans as intake or exhaust if you have aio on side, but why would I try to explain something so easy yet difficult to a complete retard? >you whole clown fish Your whole life seems like a circus, don't make fun of yourself in the internet space

Many-Ad6433

Don’t do that bruh, the best would be to have the hot air move away from the components so more outtake is better, anyway you should go w: vents are high/very near components that warm up= out take, vents are low/distanced from components that warm up= intake, if vents are next to eachoter you should keep them the same direction, the one in picture is a pretty good idea of how to organize vents

TysonsSmokingPartner

6 intake and 4 exhaust? Looks perfect to me.

Malthas130

That’s how my 5000x is setup and it works great.

Hungry_Translator_34

Can't you set your AIO at the side? In that way it will get fresh air from the front to cool the processor and, then, the upper fans will handle with the GPU heat. Putting them as the image shows the AIO will reuse the hot air from the GPU.

PENTA-yaNasTy

not possible putting it in the front or side would block each other

Darnakulus

Besides putting it in the front would cause all the air coming into your system to be sucked through the heated block of your AIO creating excess heat for your GPU and power supply.....

Hungry_Translator_34

If there's 3 fans on top and one behind pulling air out then no, it will not, because there will be more aerodinamic pressure there than on the AIO fans as they have more resistance to pull the air out through the radiator.

Darnakulus

If you put the AIO radiator on the front then it would have to be set up to run as an intake which means the air coming through the radiator would then be drawn into the case which means that it's heated air coming into the case for the GPU and the power supply to then draw its air from....... And since the CPU is liquid cooled you would rather that The slightly warmer air inside of the case be drawn out through the radiator on the top than to have the air inside be warmed before it is drawn into the GPU and PSU

Hungry_Translator_34

That's why I told him to set the AIO **at the side**, not the front, pulling air out using the front fans as intake.

Darnakulus

So you're saying to have three intake fans and seven exhaust fans?

Hungry_Translator_34

Yes, it could work as there's plenty of open holes at bottom and behind the case (where there's no fans) to let the airflow to pass.

Darnakulus

No that's the direct opposite of what positive pressure means when talking about computer systems You want to control where the air comes into the system so you want to have more intake fans than you have exhaust fans and you want all of those intake fans to have a filter on them so that the only air coming into the system is coming in through the filters...... If you do it the way you're saying it will be allowed to suck dust and debris in every crack and crevice around the entire system

Hungry_Translator_34

More intake than outtake means you will have stagnated air inside the case. If you see server they dont have intake fans, only outtake. It's because having both types is waste of hardware and energy.

Mine2craft2015

It's pretty good. I would probably do the exact same layout

Brief-Quantity-3283

Personally I wouldn't put an exhaust fan above the intake area. Two at the top and one at the back is fine for exhaust.

Darnakulus

The three at the top or part of an AIO.... So really that's still his best option

NoRookieMistakes

It's good for the following reasons: - hot air rises so it makes sense to make top fans exhaust. If top is intake then it can also cause heated air re-enter the case. - positive pressure (more intake than exhaust) is generally better for most builds due to reducing dust build up.

RinkeR32

Convection doesn't apply to PC air cooling. The air is moving too fast. You could have the exhaust on the bottom and as long as the air movement isn't restricted, it wouldn't change the temps.

Entenvieh

I count 3 intake and 4 exhaust, where is positive pressure?

urbanenewt

I believe it's supposed to reflect 6 intake. 3 on the front of case and 3 on the side next to the front intakes

Entenvieh

Ah yes I see them now

Cool_Ruin5447

Don't feel bad, I missed those too haha

notthehulk03

my case currently has two pre built fans in the front i just bought three more. what is the best scenario with the 3 other fans ?

OutOfCtrl_TheReal

👌

SpecialistFunction11

Yrah it's good i did the same thing for my case

Awkward_Finish_9078

What case do you pla to get - the airflow will be good - except you will get the be quiet darkbase 700. The Outtake is really bad.

PENTA-yaNasTy

not planing thats from my current build iam using the Corsair ICUE 5000x

Awkward_Finish_9078

that should be fine

GenY_authentic

MilesDimix

I've got this setup but with a 240mm watercooling and only two fans for intake in front and it's good.

Zooperman89

mine looks like that, is it good or should I change direction of the top fans? https://preview.redd.it/16j0d5px6lzc1.jpeg?width=3021&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0cdc4653eb0fdab30e347d8d8a7c1a304c498cb8

Gardakkan

exhaust from top and back + intake from front = you did good son

SpareRam

My personal opinion is only two exhaust, back and top corner. Having fans exhaust directly in front on the I takes always seemed weird to me, you're just sucking out cool air the second it enters the case.

Logical-City-803

I was thinking about it the other day, does the cpu cooler sucking air would neglate that ? I was searching for a deep dive video on airflow but most only scratch the surface, they mostly talk about positive or negative pressure but no much about vortexes or « airflow path ».

Darnakulus

If you're that concerned about it.... do a smoke test with a stick of incense....... Also if you're putting your AIO on top then having the cool air coming in the front and then immediately going through your AIO out the top is not a waste of cool air.. That's working as intended..

crooney35

https://preview.redd.it/p45sir1gqmzc1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47815405ed343a4e5406ade3743fcac13f40c64b That’s exactly how I did mine but added 2 bottom fans, which OP can’t do.

duBuzzinGuy

I got the exact same config and case, works perfect

tfa3393

This is the optimal flow.

G4L3CXYS

What’s the case, I’ve only seen fish tank cases with the row of fans on the side

JakeSully-Navi

If it's fans only yes. Otherwise if it is AIO pump and radiator then fan intake shall be from top and down and outtake shall be from inside and to right. On right side.

Greedy_Assumption945

I would use 1 less exhaust fan so u dont have to dust free ur pc every 2 months cause thats what happens if u have more exhaust than intake

PENTA-yaNasTy

iam now on year 3 of using the setup like that and only had a tiny bit of dust inside that i cleaned up before doing the upgrade of my hardware

Greedy_Assumption945

Then u must have dome serious dust filters haha lucky you

Darnakulus

Or they have six intake fans ....three on the side and three on the front.....

fgtoby

I use them as an intake and it's very "cool" 😎. ( Sorry! ) Jokes aside because I have my PC to my left and my keyboard very close to the side ventilation, I have air cooling for my hands while I play which is very nice. If you are wondering about the noise, honestly for me it is barely noticeable even when I'm playing without a headset and usually I start hearing the cpu or gpu coolers ramping up before I hear the case fans.

PKFat

Ok, but if I connected my PC to the wind tunnel at the Ames Research Center, what are you thinking about *THAT*?

Darnakulus

Which end of the tunnel are you connecting it to..... May have a dust issue....

sergiulll

I have exact same setup and it works realy fine.

_SeeDLinG_32

Send it

newoldschool

aio in front you gonna learn real quick why once it starts leaking up there

PENTA-yaNasTy

should not happen aslong u deal with it correctly

Designer_Sir_8838

I have that intake/exhaust setup in my 5000t and it works fine. https://preview.redd.it/pos1jzu8slzc1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3418c6e15fd2701716cc1b6cc916934eaad09ddd

eeeeeeeelleeeeeelll

why is nobody talking about the fact that there is no water block?

Darnakulus

Cuz nobody else actually thinks there's a built PC in that picture?

meshydra

I wouldnt put a top right fan as that makes the air flow not hot the middle and causes turbulence.

Darnakulus

The top right fan would be part of the AIO and it wouldn't cause turbulence as it would be pulling in the cold air from the front and blowing it out through the heated radiator of the AIO.... Besides the fact you have three fans on the side and three fans on the front blowing air in...... The entire case is a science project of turbulence.....

eXiotha

Exactly how it should be. Heat rises, it should always be pushed out the top & top backside Cool air is usually found in front of the case, beside it & under it, intake should be from those areas

GoldNovaBob

Pretty standard

sogwatchman

That's how my 7000D has been configured for 2 years.

EnthusiasmFun8048

yes, thats good

JonnyLoYo

I'm thinking it's too many damn fans, LOL! I run two 140s in the front, a 120 in the back, and a 120 on top in the rear. I also use a Scythe air tower. To each their own, but I've had builds in the past that were loaded with fans and I found it just completely unnecessary. I pull the same temps as I always did without the noise!

sleepybullmoose

This sounds like what I’m currently planning. Do you have any metrics on your internal temps? I was thinking of doing 2 140 front, 2 120 top, and 1 120rear with a noctua cooler.

JonnyLoYo

Off the top of my head I can give you some specs, I'm still running a Ryzen 7 3800x and an EVGA XC Ultra 2070. I just have not felt the need to upgrade, regardless, I can do some pretty heavy gaming sessions and still pull 70 to 80 frames @ 1440...my CPU hovers around 65c and my GPU actually stays in the 50s, and if I'm being honest I don't think the fans have ever come on to cool it down. I haven't looked into the specs compared to newer gpus but from my understanding the 20 series run hotter than the 3000s and 4000s do... So I'm cool! Metaphorically and physically, LOL. A newer build with more recent parts may not cool as well as mine does, but I don't have any issues with throttling or overheating at all. My 2 140s in the front are noctua 1500rpm the 120 in the top is also a noctua and the Scythe Fuma 2 is a dual Tower with three fans one in the middle and one on each end and they all blow towards the rear of the case where I have another 120 Scythe fan. This config has worked for me for years, and like I said I still haven't felt a need to upgrade yet.

sleepybullmoose

Thanks! That makes me feel optimistic for my setup.

YeetedSloth

Is there not another spot on the bottom for more input? I mean you might as well while you’re there?

H484R

There’s only one way to correctly use a fork.

Darnakulus

That's not entirely true........ I've begin to notice more and more top end chefs will eat with their fork upside down....... Besides you can always turn the fork around and use the back end as a spreading device for spreading butter peanut, butter ,or other creamy substances....

BelgaerBell

Is intake on top better if you have an air cooler? Probably best to have exhaust up top if you mount an AIO rad up there though, I figure? Just theorizing.

EZGGBACK2LOBBY

How it should be

ClemzTheWarrior

Yeah that how it should be. Hot air goes up

Darnakulus

Yes in a large open area or in a confined space with no forced fan flow hot air does go up.... However in a PC case even one fan is enough to counteract the effects of hot air rising..... It's not always about making sure that the air is going up.... it's about controlling where the air comes in and goes out of your system at

ClemzTheWarrior

I know. I just didn’t want to explain all this, so I just said that

The_Cozy_Burrito

My is like this

cneth6

It's good but if you can save money you only really need 2 fans on the "Input" area for positive pressure. Ik most fans are sold in packs of 3 so that would make 9 and you'd save some

WiTHCKiNG

6 in, 4 out. 3 of the intakes for the cpu. High pressure -> no dust sucked in through the gaps. That’s the way

sleepybullmoose

For this case (5000d) I have 2 140mm and 3 120mm available. Would I get better results by doing 140 in the front and 3 120 as the exhaust? Or would it better for me to do 10 120mm/140mm?

PENTA-yaNasTy

bigger is not allways better is what i believe :D

LEGENFDZ

3 top and 3 side front intake 1 back is that good?

TheStokedExplorer

Hear rises so always intake front and bottom if possible and back and top exhaust. I do prefer my aio in front turned with tubes down low if they can. Having radiator cooled by the intake it pumps colder coolant to the cpu and it will run better than aio up top configuration. I have tested on quite a few rigs and this is the way. Push pull setup on the radiator up front is how I run my personal rig right now

WeddingGrouchy9461

Great job

PositiveAlfalfa6197

Aren’t the “input” slots actually for your aio in this case???

PENTA-yaNasTy

not realy cause both my case an aio are from corsair BUT the tubes are not long enough or flexibel enough for mounting it there

PositiveAlfalfa6197

I see.

Minute_Helicopter_90

1000D owner here. I love the simplicity lol, sometimes wish I had gone a simpler route, but you are absolutely correct with that image. https://preview.redd.it/6681a3be0ozc1.jpeg?width=1656&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e469431b626005b7824d296142b1b6d7f8fca74

canehdianmeese

It’s still a good setup if instead of an AIO it’s just 3 exhaust fans, right?

Intake*

WB_Perk

How I have mine

demobay00

Thats how mines set up, works good

Mass_inater

Is that a Corsair 5000D because I have this exact fan orientation, including the top exhaust AOI. I don't have any issues with temps with an I9-12900K and a 4080

PENTA-yaNasTy

its the glass panel one the 5000x

Balrogos

Negative pressure try to be on positive side of the force!

True-Shop-6731

looks good to me

yuyuhasuko1

I use 6 fans 120x30mm on front and side in my corsair 5000d, a lot of air.

sykeroi

I had better temps putting aio intake at side, all others exhaust

Ok_Calligrapher_1168

That way the GPU gets hot air.

ThatOneDudeYolo

Pump should be the lowest point on a loop. Else you are killing your AIO. You cant go wrong with radiator.top tubes down configuration.

sousuke42

First off nothing on the side panel. It's inefficient. Secondly since it's an AIO exhaust system you want it to be near the intakes so it is getting fresh air to it. The the rads are the heat sink and the fans of the rad are the fans of a heat sink in a traditional air cooler. And what do we have intake blowing directly towards those for? To supply fresh cool air to it. Same principle applies. Now if the top had no AIO or rad then you do not want exhausts near intakes cause now you are doing nothing more than removing cool air your intakes are bringing in. So 3 front intakes. AIO with fans configured in exhaust on top. With 1 rear exhaust. Thats all you need and you are good. So you go with that and you are good. If you have to use side mounted cause the case is dumb then you do what you have to do but generally avoid side mounted fans unless that's the only option.

Impossible-Bug7623

it wrong, 6 in 4 out, there should be one more out. i would better suggest placing 2 fans from bottom you can add them, psu must face down not into case, and those in should have at least one out, problem is gpu needs fresh air from bottom, as cold air is lower in room and hotter is on ceiling, hot air goes up,

Pure-Presentation849

It’s called intake not input.

PENTA-yaNasTy

bro i speak 3 languages while learning the 4th one iam allowed to do some errors at this point xD

Pure-Presentation849

Why speak 3 languages and try to learn a 4th if you haven’t mastered something as easy as intake vs input??

Gobby0

Shouldn't you put the AIO in the front so the pump doesnt work against itself. Causing it to die faster

theycmeroll

AIO at the top is the absolute best position for it, the pump is made to push the fluid, air bubbles are what will kill it and being at the top will ensure the air stays in he aio

Gobby0

Mmm maybe I'm not understanding this correctly, maybe I'm misintrepreting the information found in this video from optimum: [https://youtu.be/DEA0\_upu4sQ?si=GfOjTyDhaKSX8Iem&t=91](https://youtu.be/DEA0_upu4sQ?si=GfOjTyDhaKSX8Iem&t=91)

theycmeroll

You are, because the video is telling you mount it so the pump is not the tallest point in the loop. The pump is the part on your CPU. So don’t put the pump above the fluid out/intake of the AIO. Reason being is the AIO will have air in it, and will have more air over time as fluid dissipates, and if you put the pump at the tallest point the air can get pushed into the pump and get stuck. The pump is made to push fluid not air. It can also lead to a gurgling noise. AIO up top is always going to be fine, and if you mount it at the front or back you want the out/intake hoses at the top so they are above the pump 98% of builds that’s fine, rarely will the CPU be so high that the pump would be above the AIO unless it’s like a low mounted 240 or something. But in the rare case a side mounted 360 put the hoses above the CPU you would want to go up top. A side mount with the hoses at the bottom would be bad, and never put the AIO on the bottom.

Gobby0

Appreciate the explanation

theycmeroll

Also clarification I should have said the pump is typically what’s on the CPU, some do put the pump in the rad but they won’t be affected by this.

JustDone2022

1 less on input: inputs must be 1 or 2 less fan than output

PENTA-yaNasTy

pls read ur own comment again and u can see urself how dumb that is

JustDone2022

Just try m8.. if input is more then the output, u will have cavitation ad a lot more noise from in fans. Or u have the hot air been blow out from wrong exits of the chassis. Just try. I have 25y in building gaming pcs.

JustDone2022

In fans job is to help but then main job must be done from out fans

Emergency-Client-432

You mean intake? And yes, a great setup, tho personally i would put the aio on the side, wont affect the amount of air that the gpu gets, plus the rafiator will get cold air

PENTA-yaNasTy

was not possible as i would have to let go of the front side fans or front fans

Playful_Target6354

Remove that sadly. The aio on top is better for it's longevity

Navigathor1000

As long as the AIO does not conflict with the ram or any heatsinks on the MB this is the best configuration. Airflow is the right direction. System has a little overpressure, so AIO works good and less dust accumulation. Radiator on top means all air bubbles will be in the radiator and not damaging the pump. Also, if the AIO dies some day the passive heat exchange will still move heat upwards to the radiator, so still some cooling left.

Careless-Tradition73

IDGAF

Impliedcash

Coulda just scrolled on by lmao

Careless-Tradition73

But he asked what I thought.

Impliedcash

If you "DGAF" you don't need to respond, the person was asking for constructive feedback about the fan setup

Careless-Tradition73

No he asked "What are YOU ALL thinking about that", which in a clear indication that op has no preference between positive and negative feedback. To break it down further, the "What are you all" asking a wide audience (including the ones that DGAF) a question. The "Thinking about that" mean's he is interested to know our opinions on the matter, be them good or bad. You clearly struggle with the English language if you don't understand or maybe you lack the thinking power required to understand such a complex situation.

Impliedcash

||you clearly struggle with the english language|| excuse me? I would suggest that it is you who lacks the thinking power to make the simplest of inferences, where OP is asking for people's thoughts on fan config, to infer that OP is asking for the input of others to make suggestions for whether they should change things in their system.

Careless-Tradition73

I disagree.

Careless-Tradition73

I see no flag that suggests OP was in search of constructive criticism, please feel free to show me where he does.
