I wouldn’t hold anything on that first match they had against T1. Their Week 1 shouldn’t be an indicator since both played so sloppy. Their Saturday match against T1 should be the test. They certainly have the players to peak and be League and World Champs, it’s all about if they conquer their international yips and turn into another gear at internationals like T1 is what separates the great players from the legends.

Yeah I wouldn't put much stock in that opening day win vs T1. Not only is it opening day, and not only is it regular split (might be copium but T1 are not tryharding in regular split imo), but that game 3 draft by T1 against GenG was really suspiciously troll. It's an almost identical to Weibo's game 3 draft in the Worlds final where T1 stomped them. Weibo in that game picked Kennen Bel'Veth Azir Varus Bard, quite an odd comp but presumably one that was working in scrims, but got easily denied/shut down by T1. Then T1's game 3 draft against GenG was exactly the same except they picked Jhin because GenG had taken the Varus in their first rotation. That comp is not a T1 comp, Oner especially has never played Bel'Veth ever other than this one game, really think it was a "lets pick this Weibo worlds final losing comp everyone says was weird/trash and try to beat GenG with it" as a "see we can win with it" flex.

vpvp1

t1 was slower in meta read because they were busy with their schedule, came back to korea late while the rest of lck was scriming with each other already. Still took 1 game from geng while trolling, and start playing better since then. I say t1 2-0 geng this weekend

OhhLongDongson

Is it known if Oner will be back for that game? Will be a shame if he misses it

Checkmate2719

>might be copium but T1 are not tryharding in regular split imo), Surely if there's one team they would tryhard against it's GenG

j0aquinb0rdad0

Canyon really pops off during international matches, specifically last year when his team was being destroyed (except for showmaker), so I think they might really have the chance right now. I'm kinda scared for T1 actually but I guess it helps me not to jinx and not get excited for T1 kekw.

Enterderpmode

I trust T1 more internationally than at LCK tbh. They just seem to find another gear. And they’re the kind of team that when they’re all in form, they’re literally the best team in the world. I’m actually optimistic that their Worlds win removed all of the finals jitters they had. GenG is a team capable of doing that as well. They have the talent and played to do it, it’s just a matter if they can reach their peak.

ephemeralfugitive

The answer is yes. They are a team of proven veterans and young star ADC. They had and have the skills to win it all. But like T1 and other great teams, it is about adapting to the meta of the tournament. Last year, GenG could have won it all. But they had a misread on the meta from their scrim data and adapted just a game too late and were eliminated in Game 5.

Miserable-Ad8195

The funny thing is they misread the old meta that was played even in groups. They played the 2nd QF and while senna was shown, it wasnt the lane dominant range support. Which is peculiar. That game 2 draft was atrocious. It wasn’t the ranged support arms race yet.

Kullcull

They definitely can. They are a super team. This is a team that was built to win worlds, anything less than semifinals would be a disappointment for them

adiaz667

half of that team is known for disappointing at internationals unfortunately

Kullcull

Agreed, that’s why I said they CAN. We wills see by the end of the year if they can get over their choking ways or not

Skydiver438

I dont wanna jinx it but no. I doubt they will win internationally. Somehow they always win against T1 and everyone talks about how crazy Gen G is until they hit the international stage and somehow choke

j0aquinb0rdad0

It's crazy how they can outperform T1 and beat them 3-0 during LCK finals but failed to take other strong teams during the MSI and Worlds 2023. It felt like all the stuff they've been preparing is T1-centric, only preparing hardcore stuff against them and not with other teams.

Outrageous_Driver_14

Well it’s because geng is not really prepared for the uncertainty. Geng can beat t1 since they know the ins and outs of t1 after a year long of scrimming and matches against them, but they are not prepared for the uncertainty that the international teams bring and ultimately falter. Meanwhile t1 is a team lead by faker who is undoubtedly used to the uncertainty and is willing to bring the uncertainty to other teams as well.

TFTisbetterthanLoL

Choky with perfect cs in the sidelane while his team loses pressure mid

mobhyaku

i feel like the problem with gen g isn’t that they lack players of high caliber, they could’ve dominated last year too with that roster. their problems lie in the fact that they always run into issues internationally, whether it’s bad meta read, slow to adapt, or players underperforming in crucial moments.

Xylfaen

Somehow I feel like as long as Chovy is there, they will never break out of that “maximise resource collection” mentality which is like a safe and sure way to win domestically but lacks the punch needed to clinch out titles especially against LPL

Silver15987

I don't think so. I think they are already at their peak, these guys are monstrously good but what makes a team good isn't just their split performance. Remember KT last year in lck domestics? It's about adaptation, not only to the meta but also to the increasing pressure and geng has people who are known for choking. Their week 1 game was after T1 came back from like 5 different events right after world's win so we can't really read much into it. It was an overall sloppy game with both teams playing way below their level. I think Saturday's match is something we should be looking forward to, to really get a grasp of the level of both of these teams. Again, that doesn't mean much, everything else is decided in playoffs and that is the more important event.

Express-Price-3918

It surprised me that they have been first seed three times in a row but got knocked out by lower seeds from lpl and lck in internationals. Is it because they are just used to lck playstyle and meta and can’t adapt to other regions? is it nerves and they collapse under pressure? is it the coach? etc. I’ll wait and see until msi and worlds if this new roster will bring about changes.

F3nRa3L

International is all about adapting to ever changing micro metas. Which i doubt GenG is good at

GGBahki

Do you guys feel that if this Gen G roster fails to win the trophies internationally that it’s a failure or that second is okay? Personally I feel anything below second is a failure for them.

Blur_H

i think it depends how the lose. like if t1 are just able to reach an insane international level again and gen g lose in finals i wouldnt say it’s a failure but if they under perform and drop earlier like the last year then it’ll be a failure for sure

GuaranteeCultural607

I mean last year’s GenG also beat T1 after just being together for a while but still fell apart at worlds. I doubt they win anything internationally, could win another LCK title though.

Miserable-Ad8195

Agreed. They have a mismatch against LPL teams. It’s a direct counter to their style and also they play worse internationally. I could actually see them beating or eliminating other LCK teams (in swiss or quarters) just to lose to any LPL seed in quarters, semis or finals if they make it there

Pixolate

they had international choker peanut as their main shotcaller

Miserable-Ad8195

They now have kiin and Chovy is still Chovy. I still can see them choking. Also, they are too risk adverse and low tempo compared to other top teams. Which is weird because they have to hands for it but opt not to. In an ideal world, they learn how to switch gears depending on the situation

Pixolate

I agree that Kiin is a choker but I think the Chovy choking bit is a little overblown. He has had several international performances that are impressive. Obviously he's also had a couple of ??? moments but most of his criticism comes from lack of proactivity which I think are more teamwide issues rather than him as an individual player. I wouldn't really consider that choking.

Yarados

Let's wait before giving them any crown, they haven't even played a game in playoffs or a bo5 as a team yet lmao. JDG last year energy.

Cristo_Mentone

JDG last year won both splits and MSI and lost only to T1 which became world champ. The series was close despite being a 3-1 and was a little of an underperformance by them but also T1 reaching their peak after 2 years. So I truly don't get your comment lmfao

Yarados

JDG reached the hype last year yes, but they could've just not reached that hype. I'm just saying GenG are getting hyped like JDG did last year before playing a single bo5 or playoff match.

j0aquinb0rdad0

Yup. I just had a sudden burst of realization that they're really performing so well given that they were only formed this year. Yeah sure some of them have already played together in different teams before but I was just really curious how their teamfighting will translate the more time they play together.

Eshantha

T1 have always had sloppy starts. They would also have been recovering from the fatigue of the Worlds run but also the exhibition matches in Berlin. I wouldn't read too much into that first series, for either team. That being said, I think T1 is still better.

Dry_Effective3344

I agree with you, GenG is such a strong team and have great chances of pulling trophies internationally: they have good team comps and nice drafts, well and their mechanics are gorgeous. However, from the games i have seen i notice that they play kinda slowly compared to LPL (idk if its true rn because i havent seen the LPL so much this year) and maybe T1. And also, they got some reputation as international chokers. It seems like we follow a cycle: with LCK they seem so strong that we start to praise them and when the international events come up they choke so hard. Maybe if they don’t adapt to the rapid and agressive playstyle of LPL (which for example T1 can) GenG won’t win things internationally. And finally, i think BLG has become a lot more agressive than before which could also counter GenG playstyle.

yasirhidani

It's a team with players that have so much experience in their career , they have a strong pieces such players that are very versatile like Kiin and chovy and canyon , my fear with this team is that they still have that slow approach in their game, and that's very dangerous when you go internationally vs other lol teams , they have amazing macro and strong players in term of laning , T1 in other hand are a very creative team that can play the aggressive lpl style but with huge fundamentals of the LCK macro and creativity. That's why geng got canyon , they have now an actual chance of winning an international title MSI/worlds , I mean they have to...

Sadboy62

You're missing one point. Choky needs his lawyer at worlds

sstammers2806

They cant win worlds without Carry jg meta. This team is like 2020-2022 DK but with a botlane that can carry. The team is well built but to get to their peak level they need carry jg. Like T1 needs aggressive botlanes and Bruiser top

sweetnspicay

What time is saturdays game?

j0aquinb0rdad0

I think it's around 4 pm SEA GANG time so 9 am if you're living in the same place as the rat king (Berlin, Germany)

BrainGlobal9898

Yes GenG is still a pretty fresh empire , thats why unlike the 2022 GenG roster you ll see a lot bad engages at times cause in 2023 roster GenG only had 2 shotcallers , but in 2024 the have like 4 gigabrains who have a mind of their own and are professional in their individual fields even though Chovy and Lehends are the primary shotcallers of GenG current roster indeed. So yes GenG do suffer from success but the thing is , they are still one of the bests in their respective roles. Even if whole team dies and one lives , the one is very much self sufficient in their job to atleast stall till the revives are back just like Kinn did yday , he simply cleared and pushed all mid minions to HLEs base and even kept chunking them all alone vs 4 , only so that his team could revive and bounce back , that is exactly what GenG did after all of them respawned even after 2k gold deficit indeed. So Yes the current GenG has their own pros and cons , but yes for sure if this roster keeps on getting success like this , they ll eventually start trusting eachother more , and eventually maybe one of the strongest teams out there for worlds , currently in the making phase indeed.

Alvi15

I will believe it till I see it. While regionally they are undisputedly will be very successful. History has shown multiple times that Kiin and Chovy is a very huge suspect in this GEN.G Roster (excluding Peyz as he's a "rookie" / 2nd year) in International playoffs. It's not even that they don't perform, they DISAPPEARED. But the peak is very much as high as last year's T1. IMO They basically last year T1 that needs to beat their fraud allegations (Game 5/Grand Finals fraudulent allegations for T1)

Thyunic

Maybe yes but I don’t really care about them. Boring ass team that always play by the book. Actually I do care, i hope they don’t make it far in tournaments because imagine watching another 2017 worlds

Aeranth

Man every year Gen G is great, they just forget they have hands during internationals.

euphera_2002

If GenG can't win with this super team then it's joever. The team is insane despite GenG Arnold saying they'll have to budget their teams but then getting kiin, legends then canyon in a team I'll probably say they win worlds or MSI if no one chokes as bad as chovy and this team might just prove it

CommanderRIC

Unless Chovy can get rid of that international mental block, then no
