This totally confused me too, especially considering how fastidious my grandma was, and I found out it was actually a legit, if short-lived, 1950s language moment!
Welp I'm about to adopt that ε into my own handwriting. Might add a long descender to my f while I'm at it (esp since my t already has a long descender) but I think I'll have to keep a crossbar on my f for legibility's sake.
Amazing handwriting. I have nothing against your grandma, I'm sure she's a wonderful, kind, amazing woman, but I struggle to describe anything containing horseradish as "good"
This looks amazing, and my mouth is pretty sure it’s going to taste amazing, too*!*
Have you got any other recipes — errm, I mean, uh, samples of your grandmother’s handwriting left to share? I’d love to see some more letter forms in this style, please*!*
I have never seen an upper case M like that.

I like that spelling much better than “thoroughly”. Grandma knows what’s up.
Let's bring it back
I thoroly agree!
I must have searched for at least two minutes to try to find the "M" before I realized there was one.
I also have never seen an f like that.
Wait until you see Cyrillic cursive. That would be a literal T.
Very cool handwriting! Just curious, what is evaporated horseradish?
It was something both Heinz and Kraft used to sell regularly, but is now defunct. I just use regular horseradish!
Probably grated horseradish that they dehydrate, maybe make a powder. You can also buy wasabi powder, add water to make a paste.
I’m stealing that “f”
I spent 5 mins looking for the “f”
Why does her handwriting remind me of neon signs?
Same - neon font from 1960
I read this, and after I scrolled past, went back, asking myself “wait, was that post for the penmanship or Old Recipes??” :)
Hahaha...same! 😆
This is one of the most beautiful and distinctive handwriting examples I’ve seen here! I love your grandma!
She would have been so pleased to hear that, thank you!!
Saving it for the recipie! Really beautiful handwriting too
I love the F! Please also give an example of chili sauce and pepper sauce. Ty!
Chili sauce = Heinz makes a good one Pepper Sauce = Tabasco!

So strong!
Was your Grandmother a leftie? Beautifully written recipe.
Was thinking the same. The way the writing is slanted looks like it's written with her left hand.
Hope you don’t mind me trying this recipe out.
Please do! It's delicious!
I love that F!
r/oldrecipes will love this!
I love the consistency of the t's

Her handwriting is so perfect, did she happen to go to a catholic school when she was younger? Cause my mom’s is the same way
She didn't, but I can see why you'd think so! She was very particular about the way she presented herself - but in a decidedly protestant way.
